Alexander von Aphrodisias war der bedeutendste Kommentator der aristotelischen Werke der Antike. Seine Methode galt fur alle Nachfolger als massgeblich und trug ihm den Spitznamen 'der Exeget' und 'der zweite Aristoteles' ein. Der vorliegende Band enthalt den von ihm verfassten ersten der drei uberlieferten griechischen Kommentare zur Meteorologie des Aristoteles (es folgten Olympiodoros der Jungere und Johannes Philoponos), dessen Einfluss uber die mittelalterliche Philosophie (Thomas von Aquin) bis hin zur Renaissance (Alexander Piccolomineus) reicht. Von besonderem Interesse ist dabei die umstrittene Interpretation des Bruches im aristotelischen Originaltext zwischen den Buchern I-III und IV.

About the author

Peripatetic philosopher and the most celebrated of the Ancient Greek commentators on the writings of Aristotle. He was a native of Aphrodisias in Caria, and lived and taught in Athens at the beginning of the 3rd century, where he held a position as head of the Peripatetic school.
