This manga goes from hilarious to heartbreaking and back to absolutely fucking ridiculous, very quickly. You will laugh. You will cringe. You will watch someone you love be beaten within an inch of their life. And, chances are, you'll come out with a ship that will change how you look at numbers and weather forever.

Welcome to KHR. Have a good time and tell Hayato and Takeshi that I love them. 💖

Many people have dropped both this manga and anime. And that is sad. This came out (well, was advertised coming soon in a shonen jump magazine) when I was actually in second grade. I was excited! Soon after, when I was old enough to finally obtain my own manga (I was never allowed to have my family buy me manga) this was the first. Sure, it seems boring at first. But don't 99.9% of stories in general, comic, manga, novel or not, start that way? In the beginning it's gonna have comedy, and idiotic comedy.

Not only that, but if you give it a chance, you will realize that Akira Amano has done things that have turned her into one of the legendary manga artists-Her character development. Yes, the first volume has you meet idiots. But so what? Does every character have to be smart? Give KHR! a chance and you will see all the UNIQUE characters, with similarities being very slight and possibly unnoticed. That's what makes this mafia story so good other than the plot. You have your typical loser boy. But as the manga goes on, you actually SEE development in not only her art, but in the characters THEMSELVES. They grow older, they face challenges (maybe not the normal way) us human beings may, just may, challenge every day.

This manga has touched my heart due to this and I will forever spread my love for both the series and for Akira's hard work and improvement. It's actually so good that people who have actually given it a chance have stated what's changed of them-positively. And again, the characters are all unique, and weird. If you don't like weird, fine, but there's a mix of action, comedy, and friendship in this manga. And that is why you should read it.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, aka “The Idiotic Mafia anime”. Who would have guessed that the Godfather would get such a ridiculous spin-off in Japan? And here I thought zombies called orcs in Gungrave was too much.

But let’s clarify a few things first. This show is a silly action/comedy that uses a backdrop story as an excuse for mostly random gags and some guys to come fight with some other guys. Don’t expect a captivating, multi-layered, well-thought of scenario. It is just a typical “kid wants to grow stronger and more secured with himself and lead its own empire” scenario, with the catch that he didn’t choose it. Others did that for him; specifically his father who wants to prepare him just to succeed him in his mafia family when he retires. It is not a bad premise actually; it is good to see a story where the lead character is forced to do something important against his will and gaining the support of those around him in the process. Remember Shinji in Neon Genesis?

Well too bad he is no Shinji and this is hardly a Neon Genesis. It’s nothing but a silly comedy with slapstick humour, random stories and over the top characters. So we can start by saying the story is barely there, goes nowhere, and you shouldn’t even care about it. Sure, there is occasional progress in the form of having the characters overcoming a challenge and becoming stronger but that never actually heads to something important. They go here, they go there, they travel in time, they play in a Pokemon-like tournament, they assume forms from the future, they gather magic rings, blah blah, random mambo jumbo just for kicks.

Pacing is another very negative thing. Having good humour and dense episodic storylines would be good but to the most part it is dragging to the point of insanity. The first 7 volumes are nothing but aimless childish episodic adventures where we just get to know the characters of the show. Past the introduction, they are boring and barely rewatchable. Down to it, it’s the characters that only matter in this show and your enjoyment is equal to how much you can laugh with them or tolerate them thereafter. The protagonist may appear to be Tsuma, but he is just a boring wimp who just has to do stuff for the heck of it. The real good ones are Reborn, the baby-mafia with a lizard gun, and Lambo, the afro cow-uniform baby. There are others almost as interesting and, yeah, again all of them are babies doing nonsense. Do you believe this is a shonen about babies? In fact, the entire show is quite juvenile in its humour and action; do not go comparing it to Naruto or One Piece because its target audience is much younger and thus has far less violence and intelligence.

Anyways, even if you get to love the characters for their weirdness it is still questionable for how long you will like them before they become annoying. There is no actual character development besides getting to see more sides to them (usually involving their future selves) and most of them are defined by an extreme personality quirk and nothing else. How many times can you stand watching them doing the exact same things before getting fed up with it? It might have worked with Urusei Yatsura in the 80’s but this is not nearly as extreme in humour or episodic in structure.

The artwork is ok all things considered, and so are the battles if you are around 10 years old but surely lack excitement. I mean, most of the times they shoot Tsuma with a bullet which makes his clothes rip apart (but not his trunks) and he gets all furious and powerful, doing all sorts of improbable things, only to revert back into a spineless idiot a few minutes later. And that is all the action you get to the most part. Later on it gets a bit more complicating with Pokemons and mgic rings but it never becomes hardcore action. Because it’s for kids.

So is it a good show? Sporadically yes, if your bar is rather low. It’s definitely not good in the beginning, and the characters are frozen stiff in personality and mostly repeat the same joke. And of course girls are useless who can only cook while boys love to fight. And babies carry gun lizards and time machines. And all that makes no sense and it’s funny for a couple of times before you get bored with its juvenile approach.

Okay, this is more of a warning and less of a review.

The first volume of this book, and the next seven, are BEYOND SLOW MOVING AND PLOTLESS.

However, once you get to the ninth volume, bang!, you get a bucketful of plot thrown at you, and it's impossible not to love it. The story gets so good, that it makes up for the horrible start and deserves little less than 5 stars.

Basically, your general plot is that the main character, Tsuna, is told he is to become the tenth generation mafia boss for the Vongola family. However, Tsuna is an utter loser who sucks at sports and academics equally. And so hilarity ensues. It makes for a good gag manga in the start, but turns out to be much better.

So give it some time. Amano certainly does this series justice throughout the various arcs.

This rating and review is for the whole published books.

Reborn! told about a middleschooler named Sawada Tsunayoshi (or Tsuna, for short) who was clumsy and had no potential ability, nicknamed "no-good Tsuna" by all of his friends. One day, a baby came to him and shockingly informed him that he was the one on the list to become the next Vongola's - a notorious mafia family - predecssor. And that Baby, known as Reborn, was came to prepared him as a suitable mafia boss.

To say it honestly, I kinda didn't like the idea of this story. Okay, this was one of the story in which centered around Nobita-wise person to prove that even a no-good person actually could be good, I got that. And the thing with dying will flames... well, ridiculous, but okay, it's a good laugh at the beginning - and a cool weapon from midstory and so forth. But mafia organization that firstly founded for doing good for society? I don't know, it's just didn't catch with my logic-demanding brain (but well, manga is all about non-logic, but duh!).

But I must admit that the characterization improvement was good - very good. You could see the transformation of that no-good Tsuna into someone powerful yet still reluctant to do a mafia-related stuff endearing. And the other characters got a good improvement also, like Gokudera who slowly socialize with other guardian, or Hibari who got a little more willing to be a part of Vongola Guardians as the story continued, etc. And the pace for their improvement was smooth, though I felt like they had more battle than characterization, but oh well, it's a battle manga, anyway.

So yeah, because I'm a charaterization-freak, this story got my well-deserves 3 stars. But I still love the fanfictions and the doujinshis more, though, where the story was modificated into something.... more realistic and more suitable for a dark Mafia world.

This is such a weird book. I have trouble reviewing it.

It's absurd, even by the standards of shonen manga. Plot points get pulled out of nowhere, no one ever remarks on the oddness of some of the stuff that's going on despite that it is VERY odd in-world, and the art is fairly uneven.

This volume introduces us to the Vongola Family, a mafia family from Italy. Generations ago, one of our main character Tsuna's ancestors moved to Japan, and while they haven't been an active part of Family life, Tsuna is still in the line of succession. So when his mother introduces him to a 'tutor' who's meant to help him with his abysmal grades and lack of motivation, he finds Reborn - an assassin with the face of a baby - forcing him to change his life and his outlook.

I like this series. I *really* do. And while there are a lot of really nonsensical over-the-top scenes, there are also a few that feel real and heartfelt, dealing with a main character who not only is lazy and unmotivated, but seems defined in some ways by that and thus feels a lot more real than a lot of others.

Still, the flaws in this first volume are real and deep. It's two stars, but entertaining in its own way.

Really slow in the beginning. But the series really takes off some where around chapter 18. Totally loved all of it. It's not something that you usually find in manga/anime. Super creative and a tear jerker, all them flashbacks. The anime plays this really sad song so that doesn't help.

Reborn! is a manga series written and illustrated by Akira Amano. It centers on Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada, who discovers that he is next in line to become boss of the Vongola family, a powerful Mafia organization. The Vongolas' most powerful hitman, a gun-toting infant named Reborn, is sent to teach Tsuna how to be a boss. This tankōbon collects the first seven chapters, named targets, of the on-going series.

Infant Reborn is a hitman for the Mafia. He is sent to Japan to train teenager Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada so that he can become the next boss of the most powerful Mafia group, the Vongola Family. Tsuna considers himself a loser until Reborn shoots him with the "Dying Will Bullet". This makes him stronger physically and mentally, allowing him to perform amazing feats.

He is eventually able to become friendly with his crush, Kyōko Sasagawa, and befriends baseball player Takeshi Yamamoto after stopping him from committing suicide. As part of his training, he begins meeting members of the Mafia, who have mixed reactions to him. Dynamite expert Hayato Gokudera initially wishes to kill the boy, but later strives to become his right-hand man. Furthermore, another infant assassin, Lambo, introduces himself by trying to kill Reborn, but instead starts living with them.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Akira Amano. For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well. Tsunayoshi Sawada, referred to simply as "Tsuna", is the 14-year-old central character of the series. Because of his severely low self-esteem and lack of talent in any activity, Tsuna is known as "No-Good Tsuna" at his middle school. After being informed that he is the heir to the Vongola Family, due in part to him being the great-great-great grandson of the first Vongola boss from 400 years ago, as well as the untimely deaths of the other candidates for the position, he is trained into becoming a mob-boss by the infant Vongola hitman Reborn.

All in all, Reborn!, Vol. 1 is a wonderful beginning to a new series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

Right so this is my final suggested manga from my MAL secret Santa (who I still don’t know who it is yet lol) and not gonna lie, when you are first reading it, you do laugh your head off and enjoy it. You do get introduced to interesting characters (even the hawt ones like adult Lambo and Bianchi like cmon you have to admit you’d be excited when these two pop up XD).

Over time, I noticed a shift in the art style after reading 60 chapters, and the introduction of numerous new characters without proper context made it increasingly difficult to follow the action. I was really hoping for some growth in the main character, Tsuna, but he remained a typical shounen protagonist who only powered up when shot by Reborn. This lack of development made me lose interest and skim through the pages toward the end. The ending felt abrupt, and honestly, the story’s length—spanning over 400 chapters—made it feel overly dragged out, only to be rushed in the conclusion. I think the story would have been more engaging if it had been kept to around 200 chapters, with fewer characters introduced, avoiding the confusion and boredom that set in later.

Again, the introduction is nice and there are a good few characters that you’d enjoy seeing around Tsuna. It’s just a shame that the story and adding in random characters without an introduction was all over the place..

Basically this manga is about a little kid:ha reborn you can’t kill me because I’m a ghost *chokes*

Guys reborn killed himself just to kill me but I can’t die because I’m already dead so he’s going to choke me forever

So the story is about this ‘no-good suna’ who is the 10 gen of a really powerful family called the vonola or is it vongola???!!!!

So the little doraemon comes to help suna or is it soona??!!??

Thanks to my boy Kesh for this one🙏🏻 sorry it took me so long to get to😭i’ve been very much behind on my manga reading.

This first volume is very old school, which makes sense considering it’s a manga from the early 2000’s. The comedy’s usually pretty funny, but it took me a little to get used to Reborn as a character. The action’s kinda hit or miss, but that’s usually how it is for a first volume of a shonen manga since the stakes aren’t very high.

It’s got potential though. I’m interested to see where it goes in the four volumes I have😙

One weird turn of events after another. Tsuna is an unmotivated teen lacking in both physical and intellectual skills. All this changes whenever assassin/tutor/mafia baby Reborn shoots him with a deathperation bullet, one of the effects of which causes unimaginable regret as well as the strength to see that wish done. Reborn's reason for teaching Tsuna...to force him to become a mafia boss. Spastic energy and unexpected twits, turn this dangerous idea into a comedic fest only possible in manga. Most episodes follow a standard formula; Tsuna avoids something difficult, Reborn shoots him, and with his reborn strength he achieves the impossible. Humour comes from some running gags like the inexplicable absence of all but his trousers, extreme expressions and actions in the art, and from parodying the unrealistic power-ups that are a staple of shounen manga by using them suddenly and extensively. Just like the random context, certain character designs like that of Reborn himself seem random as well. With all the craziness, this series could head in any direction. Only one thing's for certain, this training will either make Tsuna a better person, or kill him in the process.

I almost didn't want to finish this volume just because the main character, Tsuna, was so extreme in his reactions. His reactions and actions was almost too ridiculous for me to stomach, but I forced myself through the first chapter because I knew that it would probably get better afterwards, and I was right.

After Tsuna stopped living in denial, the story became hilarious with lots of WTF-are-you-serious-this-is-stupid-funny-but-funny-nonetheless moments. Basically, even though most of the characters are kind of 2D, they're unique and quirky and hilarious, which makes up for their unreasonable devotion to Tsuna being their leader.

The art is nice, the characters are humorous, and the plot not completely original, but entertaining nonetheless. It's a good start for a series even though you kind of have to force yourself through the beginning.

This was such a weird and funny manga to read! I first got introduced to this manga, by finding an amazing amv of the anime. Now, I have never seen the anime, but it looked interesting so decided to read the manga. And well, here I am.

Like I said, the manga is very and I mean VERY weird at times, but the it is rather funny. The 1st vol so far was pretty fun. And I am already really liking the main protagonist, Tsuna. He is such an adorable cutie. And I think some people may find him relatable.

The vol was overall good and it does have me interested enough to continue on reading. The only real problem I had was how people in this world didn't respond at some of the weird stuff going on or at all the crazy explosions. Overall, though, I think there is more good than bad.

Will be interesting to see where this manga will head!

Jadilah, kesampaian juga baca komik ini (yang kubaca 'di tempat lain' *if you know what i mean* :") hehehe)

A lot crazier compared to the anime. The first 7 chapters introduced us Tsuna, Reborn (and Leon), Kyoko, Hayato, Takeshi, and Lambo. I like how they removed in the anime Hayato's smoking habit (his bombs were lighted mysteriously instead) and the Russian Roulette chapter where Kyoko in her dying will mode (yes, she's only wearing her undies!) nearly killed Tsuna's mom.

I only gave it three stars because I know I won't be hooked on the basis of the first seven chapters alone. To its credit I can honestly say that this story starring a loser was made a lot more interesting when a 5 year old hitman/home tutor came into the mix. It's appropriately titled, too.
