Cleo's forbidden romance with Mara! A pregnancy revealed! Audrey's babysitting catastrophe! And much more! Volume 4 of Einser-nominated creator Ross Campbell's hit series continues its examination of Cleo and the rest of the residents of Wet Moon with the deft mix of humor, drama, and heartbreak readers have come to expect.
Ooooo, Wet Moon is getting crazy!! Having read one or two other Ross Campbell books outside of the Wet Moon storyline, I knew he was capable of some twisted tale-telling, but this is the first Wet Moon book that really digs into some of that. We're back with Cleo and the gang, as Trilby drags them to a comic convention (costumed, even), and Audrey finds out how far Fall has fallen (and how much Beth cares about her), and Cleo starts a new job and makes a new friend (who starts out cool and turns into annoying fast), and Mara deals positively with some of her issues, and Tribly starts to think that maybe Martin's alien-ghost is real, and Cleo finds out about Penny and Vincent (and Penny finds out about Cleo and Vincent), and a secret vigilante super-hero makes an appearance, and Myrtle just gets FREAKY-WEIRD. It's so awesome. This series just gets better and better, and the art, as always, is amazing.
Everything's going dark and creepy and weird and fucked up, slowly and steady but yeah.. I can see darkness coming up!
After 4 volumes Cleo is still fucking annoying as hell.
After 4 volumes Trilby is the best thing about this series.
After 4 volumes I didn't expect shit to get so dark.
After 4 volumes of amazing artwork, I'm kinda glad I'm witnessing one of the best art styles you've ever seen in your life of reading comics, but also sad that the art style went more simplistic than the first volumes that had more details and more dark tones to it.
Don't know why Campbell decided to change it, because of time? Working other projects too? Wanting to not take forever to have that kind of detail? No matter what, I just wish it had continue to be the same style as the 1st vol etc. But, still it's amazing and all around great no matter what.
Still enjoying this series. Glacial slice of life that revels in young adult small-town angst. Very queer. Very steeped in Emotion. Some of the most unique and diverse character designs anywhere - but what else does one expect from Sophie.
Four volumes in and I'm finally giving one four stars. This weird, emo graphic novel that includes too many people missing limbs to be normal is weirdly addicting. Even from the beginning of my journey with this series I felt there was a readability that kept you hooked even when your brain was screaming "whyyyy?" These characters have definitely grown and matured and turned into somewhat likable people that you want to root for. It's taken a while to reach this point but I'm pleased that we have finally made it here.
This installment has introduced a masked vigilante and a character with psycho tendencies which has definitely elevated the plot... or given it a plot to begin with. Up until now this story was more like a goth slice-of-life which was part of the reason no volume had exceeded the three star mark. So I am very pleased that the author added these elements. I've already begun volume five and I'm excited to see where that one takes us!
I seem to like disliking these. Something makes me keep coming back. I'm confused about all my feelings. I was excited that the scandalous Vincent secret finally came to light! And I think some of the characters might be growing on me. I feel like I might have loved these as a teenager but as a boring adult with kids and no patience for drama it's too much.
The story is slowly getting better and more interesting. Personally I don't care for mysteries and horror stories, so Wet Moon isn't something I would seek out on my own. But it's good for what it is.
Picked it up at a little free library in my neighborhood and now I’m hooked and need to get my grubby lil hands on the first three volumes before I can continue on. Girlhood, coming of age, diverse, and queer. Triggering topics are mentioned throughout, reader beware.
Campbell's saga about the little Southern town of Wet Moon, and particularly Cleo Lovedrop and her circle of friends, continues here, right where it left off in the previous volume, Further Realms of Fright.
I do not wish to discuss the plot details too much, as a lot of strands are developing, and would involve too much spoiler material. Let me just say that the cliffhanger ending made me very, very grateful that I had the following volume checked out from the library as well.
At any rate, anyone interested in the series should start with volume one and then keep going (after all, it is only seven volumes in total). It is a highly recommended read.
This one was good, but probably not as good as the previous one.
I adored the idea of the convention, but I kinda feel like it was way too short! I wanted to see more costumes and more shenanigans there. ;)
This is the book that turned me against Myrtle though. I mean, she was troubled from the start, but here... it seems to be growing. I think it was the fact that she didn't want Cleo to even talk to Zia on the phone for fear of losing her friendship. It's just so unstable and needy (not to mention the gross flesh tearing fantasies).
The Penny storyline is getting rather intense now that everyone involved knows what's going on. I'm really interested to see what happens there.
I also like the budding friendship between Natalie and Mara. Oh! And I like the improving relationship between Cleo and Mara! Who knows what might happen next!
I'm still totally loving this series. Volume 4 really starts to explore more about the minor characters Audrey and Mara are just wonderful. Audrey totally hilarious with her babysitting problems, and a really great live journal. Mara the only girl who could possibly look cute holding cockroaches! They go to a scifi/comic con! Cleo has her first day of work and the very cute gay boy pukes. This series is just wonderful and perfect. It's so fucked up and college life. Until the end when things get very strange. I read this book in one sitting and went out and bought the next volume the next day. I really recommend this series.
I have to be honest that the art is starting to turn me off and hamper my enjoyment of the books. Maybe it's because I'm reading one every few weeks so the art is still fresh in my mind, but I feel like they are starting to look like giant sexy babies.
I've read his explanation for the change in character design, but I'm not feeling the evolution in his style. Obviously these are my own opinions and obviously from the majority of reviews, I am in the minority.
The story he is creating is intriguing enough that I'll keep reading until I'm swallowed op by Cleo's ever growing blank eyed stare.
This series has really started to grow on me, I'm so glad SPL picked them up. Cleo and her friends are starting to develop in interesting ways as characters, and there's definitely some creepy stuff going on in the town of Wet Moon -- I can't wait to read the next volume & find out what's happening. I also really like the way Campbell draws women, except I don't really get his fixation with girls missing limbs -- there's two of them in this series, and I know that there was another in that Minx comic he wrote. Can anyone explain?
Wow! So things are starting to happen. Though I guess it could turn out to be a fantasy or something. We'll see what happens in volume 5. Definitely liking this series. Still reminds me in some ways of Love and Rockets, though Campbell's style also reminds me of Vaughan Bode's work as well. There's a certain rounded, organic quality to his line at times ...
3.5/5 It’s going strong still, so I’m excited for the last book. I found out some new things about some characters *cough, cough* that I won’t spoil, but it’s very shady. That’s all I’m gonna say. Despite it being quite good, there was this long bit in the middle that bored me, so I put down the book and didn’t pick it up before a month later😬 I’m glad I picked it up again though.
Again, not a fan of the big eyes but I'm pretty hooked on the story at this point. Want to know more of what's going on with Myrtle, especially. Would prefer to see the focus on someone other than Cleo - she's not all that interesting to me anymore.
I like Wet Moon very much, but I don't think this was the best volume I have read. The art work is amazing, but sometimes I get bored with the story. But there are some characters that I really like so that's why I'll keep reading Wet Moon.
