Pearls Before Swine #7

Macho Macho Animals: A Pearls Before Swine Collection

Rate this book
The original bad boys of the comics page are back in this wildly entertaining seventh collection of Pearls Before Swine comic strips by Stephan Pastis.

You know the lineup: Mucho macho Rat, who's ready to get down with anyone he can; sensitive Pig, who can't give up his disco dreams; Zebra, who will survive; and Goat, the brains of the outfit. Violent, unstable Guard Duck and the Crocs next door round out this fabulous cast. The dark, twisted adventures continue as these characters dance the night away.

Stephan Pastis was born in 1968 and raised in San Marino, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 with a degree in political science. Although he had always wanted to be a syndicated cartoonist, Pastis realized that the odds of syndication were slim, so he entered UCLA Law School in 1990 and became an attorney instead. He practiced law in the San Francisco Bay area from 1993 to 2002. While an attorney, he began submitting various comic strip concepts to all of the syndicates, and, like virtually all beginning cartoonists, got his fair share of rejection slips. Then, in 1997, he began drawing Pearls Before Swine, which he submitted to the syndicates in mid-1999. In December, 1999, he signed a contract with United.
Pearls Before Swine debuted in newspapers in January, 2002, and Pastis left his law practice in August of that year. Pearls Before Swine was nominated in 2003, 2004 and 2007 as "Best Newspaper Comic Strip" by the National Cartoonists Society (NCS) and won the award in 2004 and 2007. Pastis lives with his family in Northern California.

Kiltti mutta vähän vajaa porsas. Häijy rotta. Liian fiksu vuohi.

Pearls is probably (as far as I know) the only comic strip where the characters KNOW they are in a comic strip and comment on it without being upset about that fact. Their creator occasionally makes an appearance, and some characters (okay, mostly Rat) threaten and deride him. The humor is sometimes dark, but the puns are marvelous--and who doesn't love the character of Pig? I'm enjoying my time in PBS (the comic, not the TV network) land.

Another good book from the Pearls Before Swine Series! It was funny but I think it could have been a little better, a little more funny.

Love Pearls, but Really spoiled by other collections of Pearls where Pastis includes commentary on some of the panels.
