When Summer approaches Kelly and the Senior Sentinels asking them for a favor, they are only too willing to agree. Her request seems rather daunting, find two people she hasn’t seen in fifty years. Yet the group of crime solving enthusiasts are able to do so rather quickly. However, before Summer can follow up with the people who wanted found with her real request, she turns up dead. The police view it as a tragic accident, but Kelly thinks something else is going on. Can she figure out what is really happening?

Since it has been a while since I read the previous book in the series, it took me a bit to remember who all the characters are, but it wasn’t too long before I was back up to speed. The series regulars are a charming bunch, and this is especially true for the group of senior citizens that help Kelly figure out what is going on around town. The mystery is great with some creative scenes and strong characters that kept me guessing. Being from Northern California originally, I love the setting, and the talk of food made me drool as I read. I do think the internal timeline of the book is off, mainly because the characters seem younger than they’d have to be, but I didn’t even think about that until I’d finished the book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and am anxious to return to the series soon.

Author Janet Finsilver sets the scene for a pleasant cozy mystery that is heartwarming in a wonderful setting with fantastic characters. I enjoyed the first two books in the Kelly Jackson series, and this one was just as good. The main cast of characters are intelligent, fun, and easy to imagine as real-life friends.

Kelly Jackson is the new manager of Redwood Bed & Breakfast. She is still learning about the various festivals in the area. At the latest festival she meets Despina (better known as Auntie) who reads patterns in coffee grounds. When Summer, a close friend of Auntie, gets news from her, she approaches the Silver Sentinels for assistance finding a man and woman who are the biological parents of her son. She says that it's a life or death matter. The Sentinels start investigating, and it quickly becomes clear someone doesn't like their queries. When the murders start, Auntie and Summer found poisoned, Kelly is threatened and Mary is attacked, they know they are on the right track.

I love the small town setting in this series, and we got an even better look into the bed-and-breakfast that Kelly manages in this installment. Her friends, the Silver Sentinels, as they call themselves, are a great group and their distinct personalities work well together. There is a bit of a side story going on involving homeless people and service dogs that add another realistic aspect to the story. I was surprised at the ending, yet when you look back, there were clues there and it all fit. Remember, most murders are for love or money. A great cozy mystery that I recommend to any mystery lover.

Author Janet Finsilver sets the scene for a pleasant cozy mystery that is heartwarming and sure to please animal lovers while they try to solve the mystery. The two previous stories in the Kelly Jackson series are great and book three is just as appealing. The main cast of characters are intelligent, fun, and easy to imagine as real-life friends.

Kelly Jackson is the new manager of Redwood Bed & Breakfast. She's become fast friends with Helen, who does the cooking, and her young son, Tommy, who is often on the property with Fred, their basset hound. Another friend of Kelly's--Mary--is a sweet, helpful lady who carries her cute Chihuahua, Princess, everywhere and often assists the local Greek fortune teller, Despina 'Auntie' Manyotis, as she reads patterns in coffee grounds for those who wish to have their future told. Summer, another close friend of Auntie's, receives bad news in her reading and asks for help from the Silver Sentinels, a lively group of local senior sleuths. Summer is searching for two people from the past and says it's a life or death matter. The Sentinels start investigating, and it quickly becomes clear someone doesn't like their queries. Two murders! Threats to Mary and Kelly! Readers will enjoy piecing together the clues of this daunting puzzle in time for lives to be saved.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I have been looking forward to this book since finishing up the last one. This time Kelly and the Silver Sentinels start out tracking down a couple people that were in the area back in the 60’s but when their “client” is found dead along with a local fortune teller they are quickly involved to prove the two woman have been murdered. It puts their sleuthing skills to the test and a couple of them in danger too.

This ensemble cast led but Kelly Jackson, manager of the Redwood Cove B&B, is just fabulous. Their canine companions are icing the cake. Diverse and genuine they all mesh together using their strengths to their advantage to not only solve mysteries but to keep each other safe. I like that they stay in touch and work together with the local police. Their past experience shows they can trust each other and it is a little twist to the normal cozy where the protags investigate without the consent of the authorities. The new characters are very interesting too.

This plot is complicated because there are a lot of suspects and everyone seems to be hiding something. A multitude of twists and a surprising ending had me positively glued to the pages.

Ms. Finsilver adds a touch of romance to this story, is Kelly headed for a new relationship?

I have enjoyed all three stories in this series and I am excited for number four. All can be read on their own but I suggest starting at the beginning.

I sat down to read Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table with the intention of reading only a few chapters, I however found that I could not stop. Janet Finsilver's third book in the Kelly Jackson Mystery Series surprised me. I very much enjoy a cozy mystery where there is team effort, and the team is diverse. I thought this would have more of a paranormal twist to it but it really did not. I was pleasantly surprised with the tale and how the story unfolded. I did not figure out the murderer ahead of time and I was invested in solving the case as if I was a member of the team. This book made me think and it made me curious, so much so that I could not put it down.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

I've been in a cozy mystery reading mood lately, so when deciding what to read next I came across this one and decided to finally continue this series. I've fallen behind a bit, but after finishing this one I am determined to catch up again as I had fun reading this one. There's a solid mystery and I love the core group of characters that are back in each book.

Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table involves as the title suggest a murder involving a fortune teller. Two dead bodies are found in this book and the police thinks it's an accident. The Silver Sentinels, a group of crime solving people, think it was murder. Main character Kelly and the Silver Sentinels set out to get to the bottom of the mystery. Add in one of the Sentinels who gets attacked and a promise to help Summer and contact some people for her, family secrets that come to light and this mystery is an exciting one with enough going on.

This is another solid mystery. I like how Kelly and the Silver Sentinels are on the case. They distribute tasks and come together regularly to discuss their findings. I like how the set-up is slightly different than most cozies with the main character being part of a group and not going after all the leads herself. After a while they manage to limit the pool of suspects a bit, but there are still plenty suspects left. It also made sense why the police didn't get involved as to them it was clear it was an accident. I had my guess as to who was the murderer, but wasn't fully sure yet, but my guess turned out to be correct. After the first few suspects got eliminated it was hard to pinpoint things further until things come to light at the end, but this made for a suspenseful mystery as till the end I wasn't fully sure who had done it.

Besides the mystery this series has enough other plot lines going on. From how Kelly is settling in with her role as manager for the B&B and finding her place in the community. To a slowly blossoming friendship between Kelly and Scott, which might lead to more. Then there are the side characters like Tommy, Allie, Daniel and Helen who make an appearance in every book. The silver Sentinels who are a big part of each story. A fun cast of dog side characters as well, which varies a bit every book. This book introduces us to the dogs Princes and Sergeant and later Jake as well. There also is a Flower and Wine festival coming up, as well as the usual comings and goings of the B&B. There is a bit about a new project Scott is managing close by and some llama's. I think we'll see more of that in future books.

I like how the story alternates between the mystery and other plot lines. We see enough of Kelly's job as a B&B manager, her place in the community and her relationships with other characters. And also have plenty of focus on the mystery and other happenings. There are a few times when a side plot line feels tad rushed, but these are only minor instances where a scene seems to go a bit too fast. Everything gets wrapped up well by the end. The author manages a good balance between the different elements and I like the cast of both human and canine characters. Kelly is a likable main character and I like reading about the silver sentinels and the other recurring side characters.

Now that I finished this book and am reminded of how much I enjoy this series, I am determined to go and catch up on the rest of the series. I just bought book 4 and 5, so I hope to get to those soon.

To summarize: This was a fun read. Murder at the Fortune teller's Table involves two deaths which are ruled an accident by the police, but the Silver Sentinels believe it's murder. It has a solid mystery with plenty of suspects and some other suspicious elements and twists and turns as well. I managed to guess the murderer right, but I wasn't 100% sure as there were a few other possible suspects that weren't ruled out too. I like the combination of a solid mystery as well as some side plot lines about the characters and the daily life of main character Kelly while managing the B&B. It has a lovely group of characters both human and canine. I really enjoyed this one and am determined to try and get caught up on this series again.

Book three is even better than the rest in my opinion. I did not want to put the book down and was kept guessing until the end. Kelly and her group have to find out what happened to Summer's friends she hasn't seen in a long time. Mary, Kelly's friend and Kelly get threats the more the dig into what is going on. Kelly finds herself in the wrong path. Can the Sentinel's work out what is going on before more families are torn apart and someone else gets hurt?

Well done on characters and setting like the other books in this series. The reader will not be disappointed.

This book is just as good as the previous books in the series. I am happy to see that since a lot of series seem to go off track, but this one is staying strong and fresh. Kelly is settling into town and getting to be more comfortable. The Silver Sentinels are going strong and have a healthy suspicion when there are deaths and robberies in town. Don't think by the title that this will be on the paranormal side, it just barely touches it. But it does have lots of secrets, murder and mystery.

This is the third book in the Kelly Jackson Mystery series and I have enjoyed each one of them. It has a quaint setting in Northern California, engaging characters, and a well plotted mystery that keep the reader guessing. As with the other books there is more than one mystery and it is always interesting to see how the author ties them together in such a logical way.

A full review will be posted on my blog shortly after the release date. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book which was provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.

Murder at the Fortune Teller’s Table by Janet Finsilver is third book in A Kelly Jackson Mystery series. Kelly Jackson is the manager of the Redwood Cove Bed-and-Breakfast in Redwood Cove, California. Kelly is attending the local school’s annual fundraiser (and get to know your school event). She notices a woman come away from the fortune teller’s booth very upset and leaning on the arm of her son. The woman Amy “Summer” Winter later approaches Kelly and asks for a meeting with the Silver Sentinels. At the meeting, Summer explains that she needs two people found that she has not seen since 1967. Summer is able provides the group with the names, Diane Morgan and Ken Nelsen, but no further usable information (not even why she is looking for them). With a little computer sleuthing, the group is able to give Summer current addresses of Diane and Ken. It turns out that Mark, Summer’s son, is not her biological child. Mark is ill and needs a donor. After Auntie, the Greek fortune teller, saw the evil eye and stated that someone will die, Summer felt the need to urgently contact Mark’s biological parents for assistance. Kelly arranges for Ken Nelsen, his family and Diane to get a free weekend at the B and B courtesy of an anonymous benefactor. Summer does not want them to know it is her until after they arrive. They just have to agree to a meeting with the benefactor. The next day Mary is attacked in her home, and it is blamed on the Lunch Thief that has been plaguing the area. But then Summer and Auntie (the fortune teller) are found dead in Auntie’s home. The Silver Sentinels do not agree with the police ruling on the cause of death and start seeking answers. The killer does not appreciate Kelly’s pursuit of answers and sets out to stop her.

Murder at the Fortune Teller’s Table is an easy to read book that is nicely written. I like the characters, though, I wish there were not so many of them. I do admit that it is hard to keep track of all the various characters. There is Kelly, the Silver Sentinels, the staff of the Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast, Helen’s son, the dog, plus others (from a sister B&B and townspeople). It was nice to see some growth in Kelly’s character at the end of the novel. I give Murder at the Fortune Teller’s Table 3.5 out of 5 stars. I thought the mystery was interesting, and I do not believe that all readers will be able to identify the perpetrator. I picked out the person I thought was the culprit and then read to see if I was right. The mystery has several suspects and any one of them could easily be the killer. Then there is the mystery of the Lunch Time thief. He only attacks homes during the week at lunch time. I did appreciate how everything was wrapped up in the end. There was one more storyline included in this book that I found captivating. It is how dogs are being trained to help veterans with PTSD. Michael Corrigan, owner of Resorts International, is setting up a facility to help veterans. It is amazing what dogs are capable of with a little training. There is also a dog (a Chihuahua) trained to help a hearing-impaired woman. While Murder at the Fortune Teller’s Table is the third book in the series, it can be read alone. All the necessary background information is provided. Each book in the series is better than the last (I liked this one better than the previous two). I will be reading the next book in A Kelly Jackson Mystery series.

Kelly Jackson and the Silver Sentinels are back in the third installment of the Kelly Jackson Mystery series (Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table by author Janet Finsilver)! With each consecutive book in this series, the reader becomes more involved with the small town (and very likable residents) of Redwood Cove....especially those living at Redwood Cove B&B (Helen, Tommy and Fred the basset hound) and the surrounding town including Daniel, Allie and the Silver Sentinels (Ivan, Rudy, the Professor, Mary and Gertie). We start off with 2 murders, most likely stemming from a decades old secret, and it's up to Kelly and the gang to find the culprit before someone else is harmed. The town is busy with the Wine and Flowers Festival, and Scott has moved in to take over Michael Corrigan's company retreat. The murderer really surprised me this time, which I always consider a bonus when reading a mystery. I highly recommend this book and I really hope that there's a fourth installment in this series! A+

So I don't know what rock I have been living under to have never read this series. I mean clearly this rock was huge. I have been missing out!

Kelly is off in an adventure that will mix the past with the present, the unknowns with the truth. I was drawn in with the older mystery and hooked by the present day murders. It is a great book to read and especially for your rainy, spring days.

When a local fortune teller predicts a death in the near future, little did she know it would be her own. Kelly Jackson, manager of the Redwood Cove B&B and her group of senior citizen friends are determined to prove it was not an accident. What follows is a fun mystery with engaging characters. I have one small nit about the audio. The reader reads anyone over 50 as if they were 100 and on their last legs, and she reads anyone under 18 as if they were six.

There's something so soothing about this mysteries. I love the Silver Sentinels. Kelly is competent, smart, and tactful. She is considerate and helpful and always manages to do her job (unlike some other cozies) while also asking questions.

You can read this as a stand alone novel but you will want to read the previous two books in this bed and breakfast cozy series. The characters are endearing. Very well written, you will flow along with the storyline as danger ebbs in from many different angles.

A secret from the past being revealed is foretold by an unusual Greek fortuneteller.
Sadly, it comes to pass sooner than expected, both for the fortune teller and her assistant.
While the police think it is just a tragic accident, a group of senior citizens who have vowed to protect the community, won't rest until they are sure of the truth.

With a hint of potential romance and a lot of friendly relationship building, this mystery unfolds at an enjoyable pace. We all learn more about the Redwood Cove area and the amazing people who live there. I am looking forward to this series continuing to unfold.

In the third book in the Redwood Cove mysteries, Kelly Jackson is settling in at the Bed and Breakfast. She is learning about the various festivals in the area. A fortune teller, Auntie predicts a death. A local woman known as Summer asks the Silver Sentinels to locate a man and woman she last knew them in the 1960s. Before Summer can meet with them, Auntie and Summer are found slumped over a table and were poison. Kelly and the Silver Sentinels take over Summer's task. They are not sure how to proceed but Summer left her son, a detailed letter explaining. Auntie 's BOOK OF SECRETS is missing. These themes are nicely interwoven into a tale. There were portions of the story I found hard to believe.
I recommend this book and series.

Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table is the third book in Janet Finsilver’s Kelly Jackson Mystery series. The series takes place in a small town on the coast of Northern California with caring, well developed, and relatable characters and a well-plotted story line that flows at a steady pace. Kelly Jackson, the main character, is a likeable and believable character who is smart, independent and has a big heart. Kelly’s boss, Michael Corrigan, and his company are caring about their employees and the communities where they do business. I was surprised to learn who the guilty person was. The secondary characters give the plot dimension and complete this story. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series and recommend it to readers who enjoy a clean, well-crafted mystery.

Kelly Jackson is the manager of Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast and loves her new job, the people she works with, and the tourist community she lives in. Kelly meets Amy Winter, who everyone calls Summer, and is asked if she and the Silver Sentinels, a group of senior sleuths, would meet with her. When the meeting takes place, Summer informs them that she desperately needs help finding two people from her past because her adult son needs help only they can provide. Kelly and the Silver Sentinels agree and start looking for them. When Summer Despina ‘Auntie’ Manyotis, a fortune teller, are found dead in Aunties home, authorities believe their deaths were accidental but Kelly and the Senior Sentinels disagree. As the group tries to find the murderer, secrets are revealed, families torn apart, and Kelly finds herself in harms’ way.

I continue to enjoy Janet Finsilver's Kelly Jackson series. Like the others, Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table is light and fun, has an intriguing mystery and very likable characters that make you want to keep coming back for more.

If it weren't for the dead bodies, Redwood Cove would be a little slice of paradise on the northern California coast. Kelly has a boss most of us would give our eye teeth for, and she proves over and over again that she is a smart and truly caring person. When she and the Silver Sentinels realize that they're over their heads in solving this mystery, they don't plow full steam ahead, they talk things over with Deputy Sheriff Stanton and arrive at a compromise that means they can continue to help the police with the type of investigative work that they do best. I like seeing fictional characters work with the police-- and having fictional police who are willing to work with ordinary citizens.

One of the features that I enjoy most about Finsilver's series is the fact that service dogs appear in each book-- and it's amazing just what sort of services they're capable of performing. In this third book, we get acquainted with hearing assistance dogs and a dog who is a companion to a man with PTSD. I love this element of the author's books and think it adds a great deal to the entire series.

Beautiful setting, intriguing mystery, light, fun, and with characters and canines you can't help but want to bring home with you... recommending Janet Finsilver's Kelly Jackson series is a piece of cake.

Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table by Janet Finsilver is the third installment in he Kelly Jackson mystery series and was another winner.

I always looked forward to visiting Redwood Cove and the characters make me feel welcome every time I visit. There were a few new characters added this time that helped to weave more details into the story. The Silver Sentinels are all back and in rare form. How I would love to be a part of their group. They are all distinct characters but enjoy each others company as they work together to help their community. I may have even fallen a little bit in love with Michael Corrigan in this book as he plans were revealed for his community center in Redwood Cove. I sure this were real life and there were more people like him who would give so generously to the communities that their businesses were established in.

A quickly paced plot, well developed characters, plenty of twists as many secondary characters add information and a beautiful setting that made me feel like Kelly (I had come home). The book plot was fresh and true to the characters as they have been introduced in the previous books and kept me turning the pages until the reveal. I am already eagerly anticipating the next book in this series.

The town Fortune Teller and her friend have been poisoned!!
Another friend has been attacked!!!! Lunch Time robberies
are happening. All separate incidents or is something
malicious afoot???
Welcome to the Redwood Cove, California. This is where
Kelly Jackson has taken over as the manager of The Redwood
Cove Bed & Breakfast.
This book combines artfully drawn scenery with a cast of
creatively written characters of different cultures and ages.
The plot was well crafted and complicated addressing
several social issues such as service dogs, homelessness,
greed, post traumatic syndrome and Asperger's Syndrome.
There are many secrets to be revealed.
You will meet Fred, the tricolored basset hound who is a
companion to a young boy with Asperger's Syndrome, two
Chihuahua's ( one retired named Princess and one active
named Sergeant ) trained to help hearing-impaired persons
plus a Bernese tricolored Mountain type dog named Jake
used for PTSD and two beagles, Jack and Jill who are
professional bug sniffers.
A great read!!!

When I saw the title I was intrigued and combined with the colorful book cover, this book just seemed to sparkle.
Murder, secrets, families torn apart and an absolute tear jerker scene will leave you wanting more.
The writer kept me guessing and the story flowed smoothly from beginning to end that I couldn't put it down.
I can't wait to read the next one.

Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table is based on Kelly Jackson and the crime-solving group, the Silver Sentinels. Kelly Jackson and the Silver Sentinels start looking into the "accidental" death of a Greek fortune teller known by everyone as Auntie. As they get closer to the truth of Auntie's death the murder starts threatening Kelly.

The author for the book Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table is Janet Finsilver. Considering this is the third book Janet Finsilver has written.  Janet Finsilver is a fairly new author. I use new in terms of how many books Janet Finsilver has written not how many years Janet Finsilver's books have been on the market. I like Janet Finsilver's writing style. It lives up to the cozy mystery genre that Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table falls under. Janet Finsilver has a easy to follow writing style. Without using excessive vocabulary or difficult plot twists. I personally think the story-line could have provided a few more clues but all in all a good book. Yes this is the third book in a series but does great as a stand alone also.

The narrator for Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table is Reba Buhr. Reba Buhr has a great voice for audiobooks. Reba Buhr made each character distinctive and interesting. Reba Buhr's intonation was perfect for great listening experience. Being able to just sit back and lose myself in the narration of an audiobook is always a plus for me. Reba Buhr made that possible for me with this audiobook.

The production house for Janet Finsilver's book Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table was Tantor Media. As I said with my last review Tantor is starting to make my list of to go to production houses. Tantor Media did a great job on the production of Murder at the Fortune Teller's Table. The production for this audiobook is exactly what listeners expect and want. There is no fluctuation in sound and it is also set at just the right tempo for a great listening experience.

Now for the big question. Would I recommend this audiobook? My answer would have to be Yes. This audiobook is a nice book and worth the listen. What makes it even better is that I was able to listen to this audiobook at my job and not have to worry about small ears hearing it. No excessive language or violence which again for me is always great news. This book is great for anyone that wants a nice cozy mystery that isn't time consuming.

Fortunate

Kelly is enjoying the school fundraiser fair in Redwood Cove, tasting goodies at the booths and admiring the crafts and displays; she decides on a lark to visit the fortune teller, Auntie, but begins to have second thoughts, worried she won’t like the prediction. But her friend Mary encourages her, and Auntie gives her assurance that she has found her home and is on the right path. Amy, who goes by Summer, wasn’t so happy with her fortune, and it weighs on her spirit for days following the fair. She finally reveals what is troubling her to the Silver Sentinels, enlisting their help to find a couple she’d known fifty years before. With scant details, it’s amazing the group succeeds - but Summer doesn’t live long enough to give the people her message: she and Auntie are found dead at Auntie’s house, apparently of an accidental poisoning from hemlock in their tea. Those who knew Auntie well cannot believe she would have made a mistake like that - and they determine to prove it was an intentional murder. With all the various threads intertwining - a family learning of a new relationship, a couple whose marriage is in trouble, a struggling business, and veterans dealing with homelessness and PTSD, Kelly is challenged to keep it all straight, and keep herself out of danger. It will take a village - but in the end, it’s a matter of personal courage.

This is the third of a series. It really feels like the author has finally gotten comfortable with her continuing characters and chosen setting in the northern California redwoods. Both are finally given opportunity to have their full potential shown. Main character, Kelly, has more of her family background explained and also the break-up with her ex is finally clarified, not just glossed over. The Silver Sentinels still have room for further development but again, this book takes steps to give a bit more realism to their personalities.

The murder happens early on. When the police deem it an accident, readers are quickly pulled into the Silver Sentinels work to solve the crime. There could have been a bit less information about each day’s breakfast, appetizers and dinners and a few more plot twists and serious red herrings. I am seldom able to pick out the murderer but this was clearly one of two. But knowing (assuming) who the culprit was almost made reading the book more enjoyable because you could just enjoy the interaction between characters without the stress.
