Tess is driving through a rainy road in the mountains when she hits a car parked on the road. In the distance, she sees a deformed man pulling a woman in the woods. She follows the man to an isolated cabin where she discovers that he's holding numerous women captive. Unable to get help, Tess uses the survival lessons she learned as a soldier in Afghanistan to attempt to rescue the women...and herself.
It was a satisfying short story, and while Jessica Benn used a few tropes, she wrote them in an interesting and engaging way. The heroine is truly a badass, but a believable one, and the teeny little twists were a nice surprise along the way.
Slashed by Jessica Benn is a short horror story. I gave it five stars because it was suspense-filled & breath taking.
Tess had a car accident with an abandoned car on an isolated mountain road. Her cell phone died. She saw a disfigured man dragging a woman into the woods. She knew she had to help.
She had a nightmare of the crash where she had served in the military. "Her leg ached. Nightmares of the crash always made it hurt worse. It was like her body relived part of the trauma each time it happened."
She found he held many women captive. Can she escape & help them escape too?
