Dave Veerman is the author of more than sixty books, including Tough Parents of Tough Times, When Your Father Dies, and Letting Them Go, and he was a senior editor of the Life Application Study Bible. Dave is co-owner of The Livingstone Corporation, a company that serves Christian publishers by creating, developing, and producing books, Bible, Bible studies, curricula, and other products. He currently presents Understanding Your Teenager seminars across the country. He holds a B.A. from Wheaton College and an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Dave and his wife, Gail, have two grown children and reside in Illinois.
We need to start each morning having a conversation with God. Veerman has drafted a collection of morning prayers to encourage us to have that conversation every morning. There are 365 prayers but they are not dated. One could begin using the book anytime. Each reading has a title, the prayer, and then the Scripture relating to the prayer. There is generally a prayer a page but weekend prayers are shorter with two to a page.
This is a great devotional for Christians who have difficulty praying. Veerman's prayers are good examples of how to pray. They are written with insight and show a good understanding of Scripture. Some prayers reflect promises we can claim while others convey the necessity for action on our part. Some of the prayers are short lessons in theology, praying about a Scriptural truth.
One could use this book by going from the beginning to the end. Each prayer is on a different topic and there is a good topical index at the end so one could also look up a subject and use the prayer for that day. I found that more useful than just going day by day through the book.
As is often the case with written prayers, some just did not seem to apply to my situation. For example, one prayer was about having to make an important decision, something not on my horizon. Those prayers were few, however, and even they inspired me to pray about others and their situations.
I don't usually use written prayers but I generally liked the ones in this book. There are some mornings when I just have trouble getting started praying and this book has helped a great deal. It always gave me inspiration to pray more after I finished the one in the book.
I recommend this book to those who need some inspiration to start their day with prayer.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
"Prayer is a privilege." Dave Veerman, Pocket Prayers I love the reminder from the introduction of this handy little book. It is a privilege to come to the Lord in prayer, though I admit that sometimes I forget that. Sometimes I roll out of bed without a thought to the fact that I woke up at all.
365 Pocket Morning Prayers is a wonderful collection of prayers and scripture, one for each day of the year--even though they are not marked by date, just day. I like this because it means you can start at any time of the year and read through, no feeling like you've "missed" something. I also enjoy the diversity in topics of the prayers and the fact that there is a topical index at the end.
The book itself is of great quality and has a soft, leather-like cover that bends smoothly to read any portion of the book with ease. The writing style is personal and yet instructing. One thing I would have like to see done differently would be to put the verse at the top. This is really only for the sake that some of the prayers reference the verse but the verse comes at the end of the prayer. It just didn't make sense to me but it's not hard to remember to read the verse first and then the prayer.
I would recommend this little prayer book for those who are looking for a way to encourage a habit of prayer in their daily routines (um, I suppose we all could use that). It would also make a great gift! The prayers are short as are the passages of scripture, but it can be a great jumping-off point for the rest of your devotional time. Originally published on my blog: http://eahendryx.blogspot.com/2016/09... _______________ I received a free copy of this book for review purposes, but was under no obligation to read the book or post a review. I do so under my own motivation and the opinions I have expressed in this review are honest and entirely my own.
Veerman writes, “this book was written to support and encourage you in your daily conversation with God.” (Introduction)
Veerman’s prayer devotional is bound with a decorative blue leather (design: palm tree and birds), shown above. There are 365 devotionals, each devotional has a theme, for example: confidence, courage, Christ’s return, and preachers. Nearly every page includes a theme, prayer devotional, and Bible verse. After every five days, two succinct devotionals are written on one page. For many years the Psalms have encouraged believers. This devotional is written in the same tradition of prayers. I would like to remind readers that the prayers within the devotional contrast the biblical psalms, this book is not inspired by God. I read the prayers to generate my own thoughts and prayers. I read them for devotional purpose and would not read them as a personal prayer. At the conclusion of the book readers can find a topical index. I encourage readers to mark favorite prayers in the topical index to create a memory system of favorites.
In the past I have avoided devotionals, but more recently the value of a daily devotional has become more clear. I continue to insist that devotionals are best left out or laid out in a gathering area such as a living room. Such a location provides opportunity for brief reading and the presence of a devotional encourages guests to peruse.
In exchange for an honest review Tyndale Blog Network has provided me a copy of this devotional. I have written an honest review.
This little book is filled with prayers that are down-to-earth, realistic struggles and sentiments that most everyone should be able to relate to. After the prayer passage, there is always a corresponding Bible verse that pulls it all together.
The prayers are numbered for all 365 days of the year and you can easily go straight through the book using it as an aid in your normal devotionals. Or you can use it topically to help when you are dealing with specific needs or problems, as each page is titled with an individual topic. Such as: A Prayer about Fear, A Prayer about Letting Go, A Prayer About Peace, etc. I like the fact that there is a handy topical index in the back of the book. It makes finding an appropriate topic fast and easy for whatever situation you are seeking help with.PrayerBook2
The cover is attractive and made of a soft faux leather material, embossed with a palm tree. It would make a great gift for a friend or relative as well as a terrific addition to your own devotional materials.

This book caught my eye because of its excellent graphic design. I love the cheerful cover and the leather-like binding is pleasing. The small size is also nice and perfect for toting in ones purse. This book would make a special gift for any occasion. As I looked through this book of prayers though, I was struck by how unreasonable it is to have prayers pre-written for oneself and especially prayers organized by date! Some of these prayers are surprisingly specific (''today, Lord I have a bad attitude'', ''today I heard some bad news'', ''today I have a big decision to make'' etc.) which confuse me because they are irrelevant if that specific thing/attitude hasn't occured that day. In short, I am not a fan of prayers which are already written up for people. Christians should be able to think of what to pray to their Heavenly Father and Saviour. We don't have pre-scripted coversations for our family and best friends! And if we need words to praise and speak to him, there are the Psalms in God's Holy BIble! There, we can find enough praise and worship and repentance to pray every day! I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
I'm used to read daily devotionals, but I had never had one that has only prayers, so I dared to change my routine and implement this book.
As the title says, this book contains 365 morning prayers for any occasion. And besides having a practical size, and a beautiful cover, each prayer contained is an excellent guide for those times when you do not know what to say to God.
Although I loved this little book, I would not recommend it to be used alone, but to add a devotional, and of course, the Bible.
-I received a book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion, which I did-
I love this book, not only is it a handsome, leatherbound, small purse sized book, it is brutally honest. The prayers in this book are not flowery prose, or poetic verses. They are honest, gut wrenching thoughts and issues you and I face each day. From topics like controlling our tempers to complaining, these prayers will cause you to honestly examine your heart. I also enjoy the fact the days are not dated, just numbers 1-365. I see this book being a wonderful companion to my devotion time. This book was given to me by the publisher, I am not required to post a positive review, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This little book has some great prayers to start off your day. Sometimes it is hard to know what to pray; what words to use. This book can give words to a mind that is struggling to find them.
In addition, its small size makes it a nice resource to have in a briefcase, purse, or desk drawer at the office. The print however does not suffer from the small size and it not difficult to read. The book mark is also a nice feature for those who may want to capture a prayer for later writing in a journal or blog.

365 Pocket Morning Prayers Strength and Joy to Begin Each Day By Dave Veerman
365 Pocket Morning Prayers is a small 316 page book that is perfectly sized to take with you wherever you go. These are short half page to full page themed prayers with a corresponding Bible verse. These can be read through in order becoming a part of one's daily devotional. Or using the index in the back one can pick the prayer by the topic for specific needs.
The cover is a soft cream and aqua speckle with a carved out light green palm tree, sea gulls and title. The cover has a peaceful appearance that suit the content - prayer. This would be a perfect gift to have on hand for a new believer, conformation, or baptism. The compact size makes it ideal for a bed side table, purse, briefcase or backpack. The prayers are encouraging and comforting as one faces the day-to-day struggles and joys that are life.
I was provided a free copy of this book by Tyndale in exchange for my honest review.
Right at the start of this prayer book, I knew it was going to be a perfect gift for a dear friend of mine because it starts out reminding us that "prayer is a privilege" and "prayer is personal" and "prayer is powerful". I say a loud and clear "AMEN" to that! I also really enjoyed the fact that the book itself is "pocket" sized (or for ladies, purse sized), and the beautiful leather bound cover was really nice too.
For me, I know I can often forget that prayer is actually a gift, a privilege given to me to come to the Lord in prayer. If I miss my morning prayer and meditation time, my day sure pays the price for that. Without getting buried down in another devotional, 365 Pocket Morning Prayers is a perfect prayer book to keep by your desk for those days when you can use just a little more strength and joy.
This "pocket book" is filled with realistic and down-to-earth struggles and feelings that most human beings can connect with. The book isn't overwhelming and it provides encouragement to help with your prayer life.
Each day has three parts - the theme for the day, a prayer passage, and then a Bible verse that corresponds and pulls it all together that you can reflect on. An added plus is the fact that there's a topical index in the back so if you have certain feelings or issues one day, you can go to that page and find a specific prayer that can help guide you. The pages are numbered 1 through 365 so you can start right in and you don't have to wait until January 1st to start it.
With this little book, each morning when you awake, you can take a moment to talk with God about the day. You can ask HIm to prepare your heart so that you can be ready to face any challenge that comes your way. 365 Pocket Morning Prayers can guide this time of life-changing conversation and help you express your needs and concerns to God. Don't worry about what the day will bring. Instead, release your troubles and concerns into God's care by reading and meditating on the prayers featured in 365 Pocket Morning Prayers. Begin your day in joyful anticipation, trusting that God is in control of your life and wants only the best for you.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my honest review. Thanks so much Tyndale!
Prayer is a privilege. This is the first line of the introduction of the 365 Prayer Devotional. When I read this line something just hit me. Prayer IS a privilege and one that I more often than not take for granted. This is why I am so thankful that God has put this book in my hand.
At first glance this little book is gorgeous! The cover is so serene and has a leather-like feel to it. It's a beautiful shade of blue and is small enough to carry around with you in a purse or backpack and does not take up much space on a desk.
The days are numbered but not by specific dates which I like. Some people like to read straight through while others like to jump around and the 365 Pocket Morning Prayers allows you to whatever is comfortable for you.
Each prayer is a specific topic so if you wake up struggling with courage there is a prayer for that.
Each day is divided into three parts: the theme, the prayer, and a Bible verse. The prayers are short, to the point, and relevant to our lives today. I do not believe that prayers must be written for Christians. That's one thing that is awesome about our faith! We can tell the Father whatever is on our hearts whenever we want but there are times when the words do not come as easily and this is book just perfect for those times.
I've been keeping my copy on my bedside table and even though I haven't been using it every single day I love that it is there if and when I need it. With Christmas around the corner, this would be a wonderful stocking stuffer for anyone in your life! What better gift to give than to start their day with prayer!

This book earns its title by being a book that can easily fit in your pocket. Unlike the traditional NT Bibles, which this is not a Bible but rather a prayer devotional, the text is a legible font size. The cover is a faux-leather that has a stylish embossing of the title and imagery. The work comes with a ribbon bookmark for easy saving of progress. Based off the New Living Translation, this book is designed to help readers enjoy their morning with selected prayers that encourage, motivate, and exhort, giving “strength and joy to begin each day.”
This work is more of a prayer book than a devotional book, but does fit both categories sufficiently. Each day is numbered and has a prayer to go alone with it. The prayer is crafted to be a devotional as well, educating the reader as they pray the prayer that is based on the verse of Scripture quoted underneath. In regards to crafted prayers, this is not new ground. However, these prayers are written in a manner to promote learning and belief in the written words. Readers may not necessarily feel like this prayers are authentic to them, which is permissible, since prayer serves two functions: the perfunctory prayers found in a Siddur and the relational prayers with HaShem that individuals can have without need of a guide like this book (and instead should refer to the Bible’s instructions on prayers).
Those who enjoy small prayer books as a devotional aid will enjoy this work, but personally, I prefer to stick to my Siddur, the L-rd’s Prayer (which is part of the Amidah), and the five-points approach (Family, Friends, Employer, Widows/Orphans, then Self).

This leather bound book feels so good in your hands. It's wonderful to start your morning with a prayer and scripture. You can use this as your morning devotions or anytime your mind wanders and you need help with prayer. There is a topical index in the back of the book. It will also fit in your purse, book bag or briefcase. The days in the book are numbered and not dated so you can start anytime. Each day you have a full page prayer with half pages for weekends. The book cover is beautiful with a palm tree and a few seagulls and it has a ribbon book marker so you won't lose your place. I'd recommend this pocket, morning prayers to anyone. It will truly give you strength and joy to begin each day with.

“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” ~Psalm 118:2-4
365 Pocket Morning Prayers, by David R. Veerman, is a beautiful way to start each day—talking with our Lord.
This adorable leather bound book contains 320 pages of page-length (or less) prayers in everyday language and simple understanding. It is larger than a pocket New Testament but still the perfect size to carry in my purse when I’m on the go (approximately 6” x 4”.) I keep mine on my nightstand and reflect on the day’s prayer when I wake each morning, and it’s easy to keep my place with the attached silky ribbon bookmark.
This book is unique in that, rather than devotions, it shares prayers to keep us focused on things of God, and reminds us that He is ultimately in control of our day.
Each reading is organized with the day (Day 1-Day 365) a description of the prayer (example: A prayer about TRUTHFULNESS – Being a person of my word) a one-paragraph prayer, and a Scripture verse (New Living Translation.)
The introduction isn’t something to be skipped over—you’ll receive a blessing from reading it alone—and a topical index is in the back if you want to search for a particular need or concern. And did I mention the gorgeous cover? Pretty Palm trees and seagulls are embossed on the front and onto spine of the soft leather binding. Makes a great gift!
365 Pocket Morning Prayers provides you with a year’s worth of topical prayers – each based on a specific passage of Scripture. The book is designed to facilitate your conversation with God and help you honor and serve Him throughout your day.
There are several things that I like about this book. First, the book has a lovely cover and is highly portable – it conveniently fits on your nightstand, in your purse or briefcase and in your vehicle, so you can have it wherever you go!
Next, the prayers in this book are reverent yet easy to relate to. The topics address a variety of needs. You can read the book as a daily devotion or pray based on the topic that best meets your daily need.
Finally, the author encourages us not to gloss over the text, but to spend time reflecting on each prayer and to personalize what we are saying to God. Most importantly, he reminds us to take the time to listen for His response.

I thought this was a great way to start each day. The pages are number 1-365 so you do not need to wait until January to start it. Personally, I want to be able to start something now, not feel like I have to wait until the beginning of the year so I thought that was a great feature. Each day has three parts: a title/theme for the day, an example prayer, and a bible verse to reflect on. In the back of the book is a topical index, so if there is a day you are feeling a certain way, you can reference this to find a specific prayer that will help you.
I liked the way the prayers were written. I felt as if I could relate directly to a lot of them, and when speaking it came from the heart. Quite a few of the days also reminded me to pray for things I don't always remember. And I felt they were written in an honest way, rather then the author trying to sound perfect and never doing wrong. They are beautifully written to guide you and let you know that you are not alone in your faults, fears, and worries. However they also remind you that God will help you if you just ask.
I hop you take the time to review these prayers over the next year. I think you will be glad you did! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review which I have given.
This is such a pretty book! It has so much pretty detail on the cover and the cover itself is so soft and lovely to have in your hand. Then the inside is very pretty with aqua colored text and little birds throughout.
These little prayers will guide you into deep felt prayers to the Lord. There is a topical index so if there is something specific you want to pray over, you can look it up and let it guide you through a prayer. You can also read through the book straight through and use the prayers in your quiet time.
What I like most about this book is the prayers say things I might not think of myself concerning situations that are bothering me. Sometimes when we are concerned about something, we have a hard time putting the words together to pray what we want to pray. With the guidance of these prayers, we are able to pray directly and to the point about these situations.
The Scriptures quoted along with the prayers give you a firm foundation from God's Word to pray with. Each one is perfectly paired with the prayer, too.
I really like this little book. It's perfect for tucking into my quiet time bag to use for my quiet time. It would make a really nice gift, too, for anyone needing a bit of encouragement. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

If you are wanting help with starting your day with prayer this little book will do just that. 365 Pocket Morning Prayers is a small book with a prayer for each day of the year. Each day has a few words to telling you what the day’s prayer is about, a scripture verse for direction, and a short prayer to get you started.
The days are numbered not dated so you can begin at any time with any day. At the back of the book there is a Topical Index to use if you prefer to find a prayer related to where you are and about what you want or need to pray. I usually read the day page but have used the index to find specific prayer topics. The prayers are written in a personal way that for me makes the prayer more meaningful, although there are some that I do not easily relate to.
The book is small and nicely bound. The readings are short and easy to read, yet have a depth to them that helps start your personal conversation with God. This would make a nice gift not only for one who has a prayer habit but for someone new to prayer or someone struggling to pray every day.
This book was sent to me compliments of Tyndale House Publishers in return I have written this review.
There are so many things to appreciate about this little book. When my copy first came, I was impressed by the quality of it. The cover of it is an extremely soft leather. The palm tree, birds, and words are all embossed on it. From appearance alone, this is one of those books that would make a wonderful gift.
But inside, there is even more to like. The book can be used in one of two ways. Either a person could start and read a prayer each day or there is a subject index in the back. Every day deals with a different topic. While some are similar (forgiveness and forgiving are two for example) there is also a wide variety (security, transparency, wisdom). Each day has a short prayer and a verse (written in the New Living Translation). While the book isn’t necessarily meaty, it does give some direction and good thoughts within the prayers themselves. Of course, this isn’t a substitute for a Bible, but it does offer some plan for getting into routines of prayer and scripture reading.
**I received a copy of this book from The Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.**
First of all, this book is very aesthetically pleasing. The material of the cover is made of leather and feels extremely soft and smooth. it also smells great! The color is a robin’s egg blue with an embossed palm tree and birds. It also has an attached ribbon bookmark. I also like the size of the book. It is a small size, which would be handy to tuck into a purse or keep in your car.
The prayers are numbered but not dated so this book can be read in any order and started at any time. The prayers all center around a Bible verse and do not take long to read. Though short in length, the prayers are very impactful and can be a great start to the day.
The back of the book has a topical index, so the reader can choose a prayer to go with their situation.
I am very happy to have received this book. I think it would be good to keep in my car and grab it when I have a moment of waiting and take the time to read a prayer. It would also make a great gift for a friend.
My Rating: 5 stars
I received this book from Tyndale Publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Begin each morning with a devotional from the pocket prayers book. Each of the little prayers will set your heart and thoughts in a direction of strength and joy for the day ahead. The prayers are numbered, but do not have dates so the book can be started at any point. And if a day is missed, can be picked up where the reader left off. Each prayer has a title that says what the prayer will be about. The prayer is followed by a Bible verse that ties in with the subject.
I love the cover. The light colored section is like a book cover and comes off, leaving the light blue leather. It's a small book that can be placed in a purse or bag. The author's writing style is calming and he pulls the prayers and scriptures together well. There were several prayers that I felt wouldn't apply to everyone, like the pastoral prayer. But if the reader uses this as a supplement to devotions or as something to bring comfort when needed, I think it would be a great addition. This would also make a wonderful gift.
I received this book free of charge from Tyndale in exchange for my honest review.
Need more prayer in your life? Who doesn’t?! With 365 Pocket Morning Prayers you will have a great resource for spending time with God, even when you are on the go. Each day a short prayer focusing on your needs and God’s purposes will greet you along with a short scripture verse to meditate upon. There’s plenty of comfort and conviction between this book’s pages. For example, one day is dedicated to Legalism, reminding the reader that that is a problem not just of 1st century Pharisees. Other topics include Listening to God, Self-Image, God’s Patience, Truthfulness — there is something for every day and every situation. 365 Pocket Morning Prayers is perfect to keep in your purse or backpack for your morning commute (unless you are driving!) or to keep handy in your desk drawer for your morning break. Of course, it is also designed to be used first thing in the morning and is a great way to jumpstart your day or quiet time.
Recommended.
Audience: adults.

This morning prayers devotional is one for "Strength and Joy to Begin Each Day".. The size is 4 x 6 with a leather like cover which made it easy to hold. There is a ribbon to keep your place which I really like. The introduction says prayer is a privilege, prayer is personal and prayer is powerful and I agree that this book will support and encourage me to begin my day in prayer and in turn strengthening my faith. I did like that I could turn to a specific topic or just read straight through. I really liked that there are sections so that I could choose to pray in praise, confession or be given a challenge for the day. Each day has a prayer and a scripture verse that will help me start my day in a positive way. I think it is a very nice devotional and I know I will enjoy it for the next 365 days. Not only to start my mornings but throughout my day. I was gifted a copy to read and review by Tyndale House Publishers with my honest opinion.
The book arrived with a cardboard sleeve. The cover is a soft leather type surface making it a great gift book. The cover price is $13.99 and is a great value. The book is small 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 making it perfect to fit into a purse or a pocket.
There are 365 prayers. Each day is only 1 page making it a simple way to start your day.
The book begins with Day 1 A prayer for facing your new day. Rejoicing because God has made this day. The prayer is followed by a scripture. This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in in. Psalm 118:24.
There is a topical index at the end making it easy to look up devotionals on certain topics like:Aging, Blessings and Grace to name a few.
I enjoyed this devotional. I plan to purchase a few for Christmas presents.
I received a complimentary copy from Tyndale Publishers. This review will post on Good Reads and My Reading Journeys.
I received a copy from the publisher for review purposes.
Recently, I’ve started reading the 365 Pocket Morning Prayers book each morning. It’s not a full devotional or Bible study. Each entry is simply a themed paragraph with a passage of scripture. The little tidbits get me going and help me focus for the day.
I don’t know about you, but when I first get up, I’m not ready for a deep Bible study. I save that for when I’m a little more alert. At the same time, I want to make sure that I start my day with some time with the Lord. The mini devotionals with scripture are a nice way to spend some time with the Lord before I get everyone moving in the morning.
At only 6.5″ X 4.25″, this journal can easily be tucked into a purse or bag for reading throughout the day. While each entry is labeled for one day of the year, you can also looks things up according to topic.
I think this is a book that any Christian can use. It is 365 prayers that are extremely easy to relate to your everyday life. There are comfort, love, marriage, compassion and so many more. There is no order that you have to read this in but if you feel compelled to skip around or read straight through, each morning/day it is great. This little book actually helped me to get more in the habit of talking to God each morning. It is something all Christians should do but it is easy to get out of the habit of doing it. Each prayer has a scripture to relate to it and even if the prayer doesn't specifically relate to your issues of that day, you will find some joy/comfort in reading God's word. I rate it a 5/5.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
I received a copy of this book free of charge from the publisher.
**************
David Veerman has brought together a collection of topics affecting the lives of all people, not just Christians. These are topics visible in our daily living, whether at home or the office, in school, in community, or other groups.
The daily readings are addressed as prayers with a Bible verse applicable to the writing. My husband and I have found these “morning prayers” highly usable as daily devotions.
The book itself–the binding, the feel of the pages, the aesthetic visually–makes you want to pick it up and explore its pages. It is not required that the readings be used in any certain order.
Anyone interested in prayer and a reflective start to the day will find this a special book to have on hand. I believe it will make an inspirational gift, whether at Christmas or other special occasions.
"365 Pocket Morning Prayers" has a prayer for every day of the year with a verse under it. It is perhaps for those moments when all words fail or someone literally does not know how to pray. I have seen catholic and Greek orthodox prayer books but did not know that this one would be filled with actual prayers like that. One of them is about celebrity obsession, another was about holidays and nothing less than Christmas and Easter. The reference verse for the latter was in the Old Testament even though neither holiday is Biblical, especially the name of Easter. Those things stood out for me, and I'd rather read the Bible itself when I have nothing to say in the prayer. I would gladly give this book away.
