Fire & Ice

Rate this book
Thick yet see-through. Tall, majestic and unbreakable, an endless wall of ice stood before a young man by the name of Azuris Nex who has always believed that he is fated to live a lonesome life. Thanks to his quiet and icy way of conducting himself, it is next to impossible for him to attract people or to be able to reach out to them. Being the last ice dragon in existence, he has no one in the world that can understand his situation especially since he is incapable of controlling the powers contained in his dragon self. So he simply accepts his cruel life of loneliness. But one day, after being surrounded by vicious wolves and unable to turn back into his dragon form, he is saved by a hunter named Robin Foremoon. Stunned by Azuris' icy beauty and his cool demeanor, Robin becomes persistent and stays by his side, even when it is revealed to him that Azuris is not a normal human. Will the young dragon halfling allow this determined hunter to melt his icy heart or will he continue to isolate himself?

Writing is fairly fluid but the story does not manage to entirely suspend disbelief.
I think the author might be new at his job or this is possibly one of his early efforts: be it as it may, the story sounds, more or less, like a fairytale told by an adult to a child before nighttime (except for the sex, of course).
Not awful but not convincing.

Although the story has a second part, it can be considered self contained.

See my review on swooningoverfictionalmen.wordpress.com for a laugh! I wrote the review a couple of years ago.

Didn't realise fire and ice was on goodreads. I don't recommend that you buy this, if you're looking for romance. It doesn't make any sense and is more than a little creepy. "It will be painful. Can you endure it?"and "I'll fill you up nice and good until your belly is full" are two quotations that will tell you everything you need to know about the sex scenes here.

Sorry Apollo surge. It ain't personal. <3

Almost five stars

This was a very entertaining story of only 677 locations. It is Part One of Two Parts. The author really did some nice world building involving Ice Dragons and the Humans who feared them despite their being lead by a peace loving Dragon King Beroan. The uprising that followed is the stuff of nightmares, experienced nightly by the last of the Ice Dragons.

The King of Astrea felt backed in a corner. His knew how peaceful the Dragon King was, but be had to listen to the voice of the terrified people. Be forewarned that there is a lot of violence in the beginning of this story. Beroan the Dragon King's reputation as a nonviolent being was well known. But nothing mattered. Long talks with certain Humans really made an important difference in their lives.

At twenty one years of age, Azuris the last of the Ice Dragons, is very lonely and scared. He travels from city to town to village, but mostly staying on the outskirts. What if someone realizes he's a Dragon? Will he be slaughtered like his family? He never waits around long enough to find out. He spends most of his time in Human form so as not to call attention to himself. To make himself a smaller target.

When Azuris is rescued by a Human Hunter, Robin, he doesn't realize how attractive his androgynous features are. He is very grateful, but without the social skills to articulate his feelings, he remains silent most of the time. This story showed so much promise.

I enjoyed it completely until the end of the story, when after an eventful mpregnancy, the doctor referred to Azuris as they "Mother". Then the baby calls him "Mama". This was a two male couple. It should have been "Dad" and "Papa", or even "Father".

Not sure what the author plans to do in the Second story? I just wish he paid more attention to the gender of their child's parents. But overall I am enjoying this new author. I just wish I had a way to do a Review the of the Second parts of several of Apollo Surge's stories.
