4 stars!

This was about to be 3-3.5 stars because the first little story was fine but the second one made me gasp so loud I dropped the graphic novel because of where they ended up.

A trip to the Jazz Age goes wrong when the Nocturnes return, and then it's back to see Anubis for a progress report, with an unplanned side-trip to the last place the Doctor ever thought he'd see again.

This volume's short and sweet, only four issues. The first two are the Nocturnes story, which is decent enough, but it's the impact that it has on Gabby and Cindy that's really worth mentioning; both of them have learned a lot about travelling with the Doctor in the short time they've been with him, and this story really hammers home that not everything is going to be sunshine and roses, even when he wins the day.

The Anubis story is okay, even though it's probably the least interesting overarching arc I've ever read mostly because it's in a constant holding pattern of 'we'll get to it when the plot needs us to get to it'. The side trip I mentioned earlier is easily more compelling, and it draws on the two part Witch story from the last volume which is probably why I enjoyed it more. The cliffhanger promises some conclusions though, so there's that to look forward to.

Also included is what I presume is again a Free Comic Book Day story or something, featuring the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors in a cross-time adventure with a clever ending that will have to flicking back through the story to see all the seeds that were laid in the earlier pages.

I'm hoping that once this Anubis plot is over with, we might be able to get onto bigger and better things. There are some solid stories in here, but I can't help but still feel like the ongoing issues I have with this title aren't going to go away until the Osirans are in our rear view mirror (or whatever the TARDIS has to see behind it).

Open end, the title has nothing to do with the content and the stories don't really make sense. Baddies are just bad without actual motivation and reasoning? And the core element of Ten was that he gave even baddies a chance. This was completely forgotten here.

There are 3 stories in this volume.

The first - 1⭐️
Not a fan of the companions, and the story was dull.

The second - 3.5 ⭐️
Excellent story, cindy grew on me as a companion. Made me feel like I was back watching the show.

The third- 2 ⭐️
Loved how the 10th, the 11th and the 12th doctor made it into one story. The story was confusing and didn’t hold my attention. I just loved seeing some of my favorite doctors back in one page.

Overall rating: 2.5 ⭐️. This could have been so much better than what we got :(

So this is the first book of this series I've read, so I've jumped into a mid plot. I did enjoy it, but didn't quite love it.

For the first story, we get to see the Doctor and Gabby back to having an adventure just the two of them. And I greatly appreciated that. Cindy still hasn't really grown on me, and with two companions in the TARDIS who feel very similar to each other in temperament, it doesn't give either of them much chance to shine unless one is written out of the story.

And we get that twice here!

Cindy is left out of the majority of the first two issues as Gabby and the Doctor deal with the Nocturnes. But despite saving the day, there is a cost to their victory that leaves a long-lasting impact on Cindy, which I hope we continue to see remnants of going forward.

Then we get a check in with Anubis wherein Gabby is the one left behind to try and get some reconnaissance. And while there is a good reveal at the end of the issue, I'm not very invested in the Anubis/Sutekh story line. Mainly because it comes up every collection, but only for a few panels. So it's left the story feeling much more drawn out that it has any business being, in my opinion.

And the final issue is what I think is meant to be set up for the two part collection of comics called The Lost Dimension, which is a multi-Doctor story. This particular entry does have a beginning, middle, and end, but it doesn't seem to follow along chronologically with where the other issues are in this collection, so I think it's meant to introduce the idea of a story line that will take multiple Doctors to tell. So I don't think it's necessarily related to the overall story of The Lost Dimension (haven't read that story yet), but it was written to bring readers' attention to this then forthcoming project. And it works good. I wasn't very emotionally invested in this one, but I enjoyed the adventure.

Eso fue... Bastante divertido.

I thought this was going to be the end of Year Two for The Tenth Doctor, but it turns out that that comes in volume 7. This one begins with "The Jazz Master" and "Music Man," which has the same problem as "The Singer Not the Song" from volume 4, which is that we can't actually hear the music. Then we get "Old Girl," which ties into the overarching storyline and allows The Doctor to see Gallifrey's ancient past for a bit. This volume also includes "The Long Con," which is a multi-Doctor story without the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors meeting up. It actually shows their separate adventures in different time periods and what ties those adventures together. It was somewhat creative, but it's good that it was just one issue. Including Alice Obiefune in this was a nice touch, but I feel like I haven't gotten to know Gabby and Cindy as well as I thought I would by this point.

More adventures of the Tenth Doctor with comics-only companions Gabby Gonzalez and Cindy Wu. The first of the three stories here features another sound monster taking advantage of the Jazz era in New Orleans; the second is the opening part of the conclusive adventure in this sequence of comics, bringing back the Osirans and Sutekh; and the third is a neat little multi-Doctor adventure with Ten, Eleven and Twelve. I am consistently impressed by the quality of this series, though it has now reached the stage where you’d need to have been reading it from the beginning.

Doctor Who volume 6 - Sins of the Father is part of Titan Comics continuing adventures of the Tenth Doctor as played on the television series by David Tennant. The series includes two new companions for the Tenth Doctor: Gabby Gonzales and Cindy Wu, her best friend. This volume opens with the Doctor and his companions on vacation in New Orleans in the Jazz Age. Gabby is enjoying herself, but she's concerned about the Doctor as well, since it's unusual for him to spend so much time essentially doing nothing. Meanwhile, Cindy has fallen hard for a jazz musician, Roscoe Ruskin. Gabby takes the Doctor to a club, thinking they will hear Roscoe play, then Cindy will be able to introduce her boyfriend. But it isn't to be, as Roscoe is attacked by a parasitic alien that steals his ability to play music. The Doctor is called in to investigate why Roscoe is suddenly ill, and discovers the same thing has been happening to other musicians, both at the current club and at others. Then the club is attacked. The being, now able to manifest, is similar to a Nocturne. Gabby helps fight it off, using her Santee music box, and creates a shield - but everyone in the club is knocked conscious or killed. Gabby awakes to see the Doctor about to board the TARDIS and she insists on coming along.
The Doctor and Gabby take the TARDIS to Chicago, where the possessed Roscoe and the woman (and host of the parasitic entity) who attacked the club have gone. In the 1920s, Chicago had the most advanced recording studios of the age. Gabby and the Doctor have to stop the entity from recording it's song which can wreck havoc and spark an invasion. They succeed but at a terrible cost and Roscoe dies, having sacrificed himself to stop the invasion. The woman recovers. The Doctor and Gabby return to New Orleans, bringing the woman home as well as Roscoe's body, and having to tell a now devastated Cindy what happened.
There is a short interlude where the Doctor takes Cindy and Gabby home to talk to their respective families. The Doctor makes a favorable impression on Gabby's mother, and Gabby's trip home is happy and successful. For Cindy, not so much - she looks for any record of Roscoe and barely finds him, just a reference to the Storyville players. But Cindy's relationship with her family is more complex and less happy than Gabby's. It's a short trip and interlude and then the new TARDIS crew is off again.
In the TARDIS, Anubis arrives asking the Doctor to visit him and Dorothy Bell. Dorothy is now able to look into parallel dimensions - an ability of the Osirans, and it frightens her. They reach the place where Anubis and Dorothy are, catch-up a bit, and have a meal, then Anubis asks the Doctor to track down some difficult to obtain elements for him. Gabby stays with Dorothy and Cindy goes in the TARDIS with the Doctor.
The easy trip, however, turns out to not be so easy. There is turbulence on the TARDIS and it is dragged to a location incredibly early in Time. The TARDIS materializes, and the Doctor asks Cindy to stay inside while he investigates. Meanwhile, Gabby and Dorothy find disturbing Sutekh And Anubis graffiti on the Sutekh statue in the garden. While waiting for the Doctor, the Doctor's warning hologram appears and urges her to leave the TARDIS where she meets a strange android with a blank ball for a head. The android is, of course, hostile. Cindy runs off to see herself approaching the Doctor - she shouts a warning, just in time for the Doctor to attack the android with his sonic screwdriver. But they then see a cult throwing people into the Untempered Schism. They are on Gallifrey, in it's distant past - but even at it's most primitive, the Doctor insists this is wrong. The Doctor is captured by more of the faceless androids, and threatened with execution.
Cindy is sent off - and with the help of the Doctor's hologram in the TARDIS flies to his rescue. In the TARDIS they again set off to obtain what Anubis needs. Meanwhile, it has gone dark where Gabby and Dorothy are - even though as it's a spaceship it should have artificial light. Anubis is confronted with Sutekh.
The last issue in the collected volume might be from the Doctor Who Comics Day special. It's three very brief adventures, one for each of the last three modern Doctors (10, 11, 12). The Tenth Doctor, Gabby and Cindy confront aliens trying to infiltrate a Roman conclave in 111 A.D. The second short feature has the Eleventh Doctor and Alice in Philadelphia in 1789, where they run into Zombie French Werewolves. And the third has the Twelfth Doctor at Comic Con in the present. It's the Twelfth Doctor who puts everything together and realises that a WordRider has been trapped on Earth. It's a being that hides in words, and it's being is a syllable - in this case, "con" - as in "Confederation, Conclave, convention" etc. The Doctor rescues the being and brings it home via TARDIS.
Sins of the Father is a good graphic novel, and less of a mish-mash of stories than the previous volume. The Anubis-Sutekh story is starting to pay off and will no doubt come to a conclusion in the next volume, War of the Gods. I enjoyed the first story - the use of music and it's importance to Gabby and Cindy was very well-done, as was Cindy's ill-fated romance. It was also nice to see the Doctor take a vacation, though it does become a busman's holiday, because: Doctor Who. The conversations between Dorothy and Gabby were also well done. Overall, this volume has a lot of characterization of the Doctor's companions and it benefited from that.
Recommended.

I found this volume better. First up the Doctor heads to New Orleans where they come across some kind of sound monster. Then we get back to the bigger story with Anubis and the Time Sentinel, Brigade, whatever. Those robots things with the round heads are back at the beginning of Gallifrey causing mischief while thinking they are solving things. I'm guessing the story at the end that involves Doctors 10-12 was a Free Comic Book Day thing. It was neat but felt really out of place given we are in the middle of another story. It would have been better placed at the beginning of the volume.

This is another good example of the benefits of the more serialized approach to Doctor Who storytelling telling in these Titan comics as we face another musically-inclined antagonist. We also threw in a little potential romance for one of our companions and I suppose that's good enough. But at the core of the longer-running plot is how the Doctor does seem rather troubled, given the events of the last arc and we all know that's bound to have some longer-term effects.

Firstly, I plunged in with volume 6 because I was reading it for a readathon so had not read 1-5.
There's a lot to like about it but probably the most important thing was the writing. I could hear David Tennant as The Doctor speaking those lines. So it worked for me.
Bit of a jumble though if you've missed the earlier volumes.

I always have a fun time returning to this world, especially when the stories have coherence. Also, by this point I have read a good enough number - albeit a bit out of order - to be able to add context to these stories. I hadn't bought more of these for a while but I'm enjoying them more so I may attempt to either purchase them or check them out from the library.

A bit disjointed and I didn't care for the New Orleans chapter, which felt rather random and easily overcome. Has the sonic always been able to create force fields? Osiris storyline isn't my favorite... The three-doctor issue also seemed peculiarly paced.

I'm just not into this new storyline with Cindy. I wasn't crazy about how they were doing the Tenth Doctor to begin with, but now it is getting weird. I also miss the cute journal entries at the end of the book. Those kind of helped bring up my opinion of this series.

An interesting set of Tenth Doctor tales. The first, set in New Orleans, is well-done, although I think the time-travel aspects of the resolution were unnecessary. The rest mainly looks to be setup for the next volume (Year Two's finale), although said setup is very interesting... (B+)
