Cynical human businessman David Michael Corrigan is a real take-charge kind of guy. Supremely confident, this multimillionaire has no tolerance for brown-nosing sycophants or parasitic bottom feeders looking for a free ride.
When a scruffy-looking young woman shows up at his front door late one night to “help” his dying mother, he’s sure it’s a scam. The only reason he allows her to step foot in his house is because his mother likes her. It has nothing to do with the fact that she has the biggest, prettiest gray eyes he’s ever seen, or that he can’t seem to stop thinking about her.
Ryssa has enough to deal with. Earth-bound and indentured in servitude in a Demon-run club, her best friend is a serial-killer’s ghost and she lives in crummy apartment with a lactose-intolerant vampire. She doesn’t need the scathing derision of a close-minded, condescending mortal male.
Too bad her angelic nature won’t allow her to forsake the powerfully good soul hiding beneath all that bristling arrogance. Nor will his conscience allow him to ignore his instincts that there is so much more beneath the surface of that beautiful, defensive street rat.
Abbie Zanders is a USA Today Bestselling Author with more than 55 published romance novels to date. Her stories range from contemporary to paranormal and everything in between. She promises her readers two things: happily ever afters, always, and no cliffhangers, ever.
Born and raised in the mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where she sets most of her stories, she’s known for small town romance featuring golden-hearted alpha heroes and strong, relatable heroines. Besides being an avid reader and writer, she loves animals (especially big dogs), American muscle cars, and 80's hair bands.
It is a good book, I am just not a big fan of endless self sacrifice and lying. I don't see why self sacrifice made her a fallen angel either or why her physical appearance didn't revert back to normal after she was released from the devil or why a demon would take away her angelic looks.... I would think it would enjoy the torture more of an angelic looking being.
Huge fan of Abbie Zanders, as I've said in other reviews... this is the second book in the new Mythic series, and I have to admit that I liked it better than the first. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed "Faerie Godmother," but I was really torn about who Ana ended up with. "Fallen Angel" is really interesting, and a bit darker in some ways. You know, for example, that Ryssa is a Fallen Angel, but you don't know how she Fell; she lives on Mythic's seamy side of town, and works for the local Demon Lord. There's a taste of danger to this tale, along with True Love, sacrifice, and suffering.
I liked Ryssa's inner strength and determination to do what she feels is right, no matter the personal cost - she isn't the type of Fallen Angel who turned to Evil, so she still retains her inner light. David was a little bit harder to like at first, being so wrapped up in his own anger, frustration, and grief. I get why he feels the way he does, but he's buried the love and kindness his Mother taught him so deep, it's nearly dead. We see over and over what a wonderful, kind, and strong person his dying Mother is, and we're told that he inherited so much from her, but it's hard to see. He's not quite Scrooge-like, but boy, he really seems to be on that path.
Ryssa doesn't take any crap from David, and that's a good thing. He's afraid to lose his Mother and turned that fear into anger; he's angry at the con artists who he was desperate enough to seek out in hopes of curing her. David's so sure Ryssa is another huckster, that he sees ulterior motives in everything she says and does, but she surprises him. Ryssa doesn't try to be friendly when he sneers at her - when fired upon, she returns fire, snapping right back at him when he insults her.
The dynamic between them is interesting, and I liked seeing them grow towards each other. There's a little bit of bitter-sweetness to this story, reminiscent of Hans Christian Andersen: the Little Match Girl comes to mind. There is pain and sacrifice for love: how Ryssa saves David from dangers he isn't even aware of, and how ultimately they save each other.
Loved seeing a totally different side of Mythic, and there was an interesting twist, connecting Ryssa to characters in the previous book. The reveal was really well done. The way David changes over the course of the book is well done, too, and his discovery of Extraordinaries was smooth. I loved that when faced with a choice he didn't need to make, he finally showed that he really did inherit his Mother's courage and love.
Another paranormal romance so worth reading. The hero is a mortal man, but he falls for an unlikely heroine. This is a stand alone book but it touches, very briefly, on the first book in this series. You don't have to read the first, but you can. It's a very good story in and of itself. Don't want to give away too much but I liked the characters and think you will also. Now on to read the next book in this series.
Sometimes you need to look past the exterior to truly see what is in front of you! The second book in Mythic, Fallen Angel only assures me that this is going to be a must read series for me. David is broken and doesn’t even see it, Ryss is fallen and has lost her hope. Their story is engaging, and the secondary characters are alluring and the world built is fascinating. I look forward to reading many more books in this series
Found this book to be truly amazing. While very much a love story, the premise you learn is about a fallen angel and a human. I really enjoyed the back story of Ryssa, Zach, and Ana. The fun cast of characters, including Jax, Lenny, and Marcela, was great! Overall, it got me thinking about love and redemption and what one would do or sacrifice for love. (It brought me back to my philosophy classes!)
Wow.. just simply one of the best series I've ever read. The storyline was so well-written, two people brought together by fate and destiny. Yet being judgmental as in Don't judge a book by its cover. The characters were addicting and so cleverly depicted. Great Read!
Fallen Angel, book 2 in the Mythic Series, did not disappoint. It’s a bit darker than the first book. Ryssa and David’s story pulled me in from the beginning, tugging at my heartstrings. You want Ryssa to have her Happily Ever After. I must admit I had a box of tissues next to me while reading. I highly recommend this book.
This book is sooo much better than the first one. It has the same issue of being really short, but at least the love interests had plenty of page time with one another (though it’s really still a type of insta-love).
I like the world-building Abbie is hinting at and just really wish the stories were a little bit longer to explore it more.
I couldn't be more surprised by how the second book links to the first. I kept wondering how come two completely new characters are introduced, when usually a secondary character's story is picked up. Well... I enjoyed it very much!
What can I say, except: BRING ON THE UNICORNS! No, really, with the types of "Mythic" creatures joining us in this series nothing will surprise me. LOL Still enjoying the stories!
Amazing, simply amazing and well worth 5*!!! This is a book that you can't put down and if you have any plans ... forget it because you won't be able to stop reading, I couldn't and I cannot wait to get the next book in this series!
Love, loss, sacrifice, hope, "the" hereafter... I started Fallen Angel as soon as I finished Faerie Grandmother and had a hard time putting it down. Immediately borrowed The Oracle at Mythic from Kindle Unlimited and decided to borrow Wolf Out of Water while I was at it.
Loved the story. Would be nice to have someone to ease concern when the time comes to leave the earth. Annie has a way of making you loose yourself in her books.
This is a must read. David is broken and his only connection is his mother and the love he has for her. Ryssa is a fallen angel and has accepted the consequences of her actions. When the two meet it is like oil and water but David finds himself drawn to her. Zanders has given us a story of hope, love and the ultimate sacrifice that must be given in order to achieve it. A beautiful story.
I beta read this book with no expectation of reciprocity by the author.
It’s not a secret that I don’t like or read books with angels and demons as the MC’s, it’s right there on my blog. My dislike for them is not a religious thing, it’s a I–usually–can’t–get–into–them thing.
However, like most diehard fans, I will read anything my favorite authors publish. If I don’t love a certain book, no biggie, I will still love them. Abbie Zanders is one of my faves. I volunteered to beta Faerie Godmother (Mythic, Book 1). I love vamps, werewolves, faeries, so that was a no brainer. If you recall my review, you know I freaking loved it. So, release date rolls around for Mythic 2, and I again volunteer to beta. The title concerned me a bit, because well, duh…angels. But, Abbie Zanders rocks so…I figured I couldn’t go wrong as far as the storytelling was concerned. I knew that even if I didn’t like the “angel” thing, the writing would be superb, the characters–well-developed, the forever love–total soulmate bliss, and the sexy times–hot. (Yes, I know my inner fangirl is showing…don’t judge me.)
I get the book and think to myself…please don’t let me hate it. I can’t tell her it’s good, but I don’t like it. She had me ensnared before I finished the second paragraph of chapter one. I knew this wasn’t going to be the same old angel–magical–being themed story. I shouldn’t have doubted Abbie, and yes, I still feel the shame of my skepticism.
Ryssariel “Ryssa”, our heroine, is an earthbound fallen angel. She helps the dying pass on to the afterlife, she waitresses at a demon kink club in her off time, and her best friend, Jax, is a lactose intolerant vampire. Unfortunately, she’s also the indentured servant to the demon Karthik-owner of the aforementioned demon kink club, Seven Circles. (I know right? How can you go wrong with back story like that?)
David Corrigan, our hero, is a cynical, arrogant millionaire, who has seen his share of charlatans out to take advantage of his love for the most important woman in his life, his dying mother. He believes Ryssa is one of them, and as far as he’s concerned, she’s nothing but a street rat out to make a quick buck off the desperate and dying.
Even though her son is a complete douche who hates Ryssa on sight and doesn’t bother to hide the fact, Ryssa can’t ignore Mrs. Corrigan’s need for comfort and a guiding hand to help her pass over when she dies. Ryssa’s nature won’t allow it, plus, she really likes the older woman, who is everything her son is not.
Although, David wants to believe Ryssa is a scam artist, evidence points to the contrary. He tries to ignore it, but his conscience pulls at him, as does her very existence. With help from Vlane, his wife Ana, Ryssa’s bestie Jax, and a little divine intervention, David discovers Ryssa’s true identity and the reality of her horrible existence as Karthik’s property. She becomes more than a street rat to him, and he can’t allow her to live under the thumb of the sadistic demon a moment longer. But, there are only a few ways to free a soul from a demon’s clutches. David will do anything to save her, even if it means dying in the process.
Seriously, how can you go wrong with a plot like that? You can’t. I shed a lot of tears over this story. It’s heart-wrenching in sections, but also humorous, sweet, suspenseful, and sexy as hell. Yet, another homerun by this very talented author. Abbie Zanders puts a totally new spin on the world of mythical creatures. If you are like me and are concerned about the theme, don’t be. It’s not your typical “perfect angel” falls for “stereotypical human male” plot. Fallen Angel is magical and emotional, raw and honest, heart-wrenching and heart-warming, steamy and erotic, quirky and fun, gripping and unique.
Finally set down to finish "Fallen Angel" and I loved it. This was the story about a fallen angel named Ryssa and the human male that gives up his life to save hers. Good thing he does, because Ryssa is David's true soul mate. Ryssa became a fallen angel by sacrificing her life to save the soul of her half-sister which bound her to a very bad demon lord. David does the same thing to save Ryssa. Because he willingly gave his life to save Ryssa this breaks the bond the demon has on her soul. With the help of the master vampire Vlane Masterson, David is turned and he himself becomes immortal. I have enjoyed this one enough that I am putting my Audible book listening on hold to catch up with my Kindle reading. Now I'm off to finish reading "Finding Home", (more like re-reading because I can't remember what happened), also by Abbie Zanders!
I’m really liking this new series by Ms. Zanders. I warn you, the heat level on these books has been abysmally low… ok, so it’s not that bad, but after her Callaghan Brothers series’ sexy hotness these have a totally different vibe and it’s something you have to get used to.
Ryssa is a fallen angel bound to service to a demon and waitressing at his club. At the same time, she helps people make the transition when the time comes to leave this world. She meets David, the son of a dying woman in such a situation, and he is a complete ass to her.
David is tired of the phonies trying to take advantage of his mother by promising miracle cures. When she tells him of a girl who can help her at the end, he thinks it’s just another scammer trying to get money.
So what if the scruffy girl that answers their summons has the most amazing eyes he’s ever seen. She’s still a fraud, right? But when she doesn’t act the way he expected doubt begins to creep up… though he doesn’t stop being a jerk to her.
Ryssa could do without David’s attitude, as her life is difficult enough. What if he is the first male to ever make her feel tingly all over? They have no chance of being together, they are too different, he is human and she… is not. And the complications not only don’t stop there but just keep piling up.
As I said, I really enjoyed Fallen Angel but I felt it had some of the same issues as the first in the series. Our couple doesn’t even begin to think about being a couple until well past the halfway point, and then they spend little time together as a real couple. They almost need to be forced to acknowledge their feelings but when they do, they go from 0 to 260 in 2 seconds.
However and surprisingly, all of this didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story, I’m just loving these stories and can’t wait for more as there are lots of characters I’d like to see more of.
I liked this one. It was interesting and kept me reading until the very end. Loved this Mythic family. The paranormals rea just like everyone else but with a little extra something. Paranormals aren't monsters. Good read.
Interesting combination of paranormal with insta-love; and if the relationship had a little more time to form a foundation, this would have a wonderful book to read!
Still, a new author and a new series to read! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book ❣
Liked it better than the 1st one, even though the 1st part or more of the book the h & H seem to spend more time apart than together and yet again there were huge 5 dollar words I had to look up that seemed a bit big for the story,I enjoyed myself... And was thrilled to have Vlane and Ana back, and though I understand I wish Ana knew about her connection to Rylissa ,right or wrong I think she deserves to know and tender hearted and sensitive or not I think she'd be thrilled... Looking forward to more
I am a huge fan of Abbie Zanders! She's definitely one of my favorite authors. Fallen Angel is the second book in the Mythic Series. We meet the über serious David Corrigan who is doing everything in his human power to help his dying mother. Enter Ryssa. The tiny, sarcastic, angelic creature who comes to help. Their story is one that includes confused feelings, strong emotions, laughter and tears. I needed tissues a few times. Maybe more. Fallen Angel is a great read!!
I received an ARC of this book for an unbiased review. I’m really enjoying this community of Mystic and all of the characters being introduced there. Not unlike other societies, there are all walks of life trying to live together and get along despite their differences. I enjoy the background information given on the main characters, helping explain who they are, and why they are the way they are today. You will laugh, cry and even get a little upset as you go along, but it’s all worth it.
