What I know about this book is actually largely from the internet. I am delighted the author is a young woman - and South African women are probably much more independent than their counterparts here in west Africa. Certainly Ms Taleng here, though exposing pockets of vulnerability of females in a clever, interesting way reveals in this novel that women do have a lot of free choices nowadays. It interests me to learn that the author is a good poet herself, and she somehow works this powerfully into character(s) in this book. How vulnerable really are we women? Do we, eg as does happen here, have to enter into intimate liaisions with questionable men like rogues, crooks just for a better life? I wish more people will get to read this novel, which no doubt is lively and bright.
