The truth doesn't have versions. Or does it?

Rin Lee covered her childhood in dirt and danced on its grave. Only she pranced a little too hard and spent her young-adult life tiptoeing the straight and narrow. Things finally paid off in the form of a job with the Department of Defense, a home of her own, and a boyfriend muscled enough he put Zach Efron to shame. Until one text reveals a hideous truth that splinters her world.

Suddenly she can’t trust Nate or their surrogate family of friends. Can she possibly trust Luck—the man who mirrors her soul, scares her beyond the neat confines she’s erected around herself, and makes her scrutinize the versions she’s always been too angry to see?

Luck turned to the streets out of necessity, while Rin slapped on blinders and ignored those willing to help her. A stupid move for a sultry young woman. But the skills she learned in the rough and tumble underbelly of DC will serve his latest assignment well. Because people like them have the instinct to survive.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I attest that every word, opinion and comment is solely mine.

Ok the necessary is done and now to the nitty gritty...

First I would like to warn all faint of heart that the first chapter begins with a huge KAPOW!!! Boy-o-boy I had to double check that it was Chapter 1.
I must confess that this one, #7 of the Base Branch series, is totally different in its flow but no fear it has a fair bit of action, spice and nerve racking moments.

I think the first clue to its difference is that it didn't follow along with the *(word)* - MINE, as well being a novella it seems a bit rushed and the characters do not have the same slow unfolding of their multiple dimensions. There are moments the action and flow is true to Ms Mitcham then it jumps and we rush ahead again. I would have loved to spend a bit more time with Rin's story and her Granddad. Paw-Paw who brought her up and also who he was... a respected legend as their home was in the rough side of town but he refused to allow anyone to push him around. Cara's character and why she is who she is and her relationship with young Rin as well as her Dad who clearly knew more about the whys.

I love Ms Mitcham's writing style and the way she works her characters, scenarios and all the twists and turns but this one... I don't know but it felt as if I was on a fast train and somewhat in the dark to why some things happened and who are these people and where did they come from as there was no back story or explanation. It wasn't until later in the story some history on Rin and Luck was filled in but only a few questions were answered. Also what happened to Nate?
Only one character was hinted at in an earlier book (Cara Lee in Danger Mine, as Khani was flushing her out) but Rin, Nate, Popov and even Luck were totally new and you missed the getting to know them phase as in the earlier books where characters were rally well rounded.

So this one had some misses for me... my very fav parts I love most, the slow burn and relationship build mixed with the suspense and drama of some of the mind boggling situations and don't forget characters who are so multi dimensional they keep you guessing and emotionally wrung by the end of the book. I think that's the biggest upset for me, the emotional ride was not as expected.
I gave it four stars because of the dip in the expected level of layers but it still had moments of action, suspense and spice.

I believe in Ms Mitcham as she has created soooo many excellent journeys and, though this is a bit different approach, I will be more open-minded and see where this new path is taking us.

This is really a interesting and intriguing book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story covers Rin who really did not have a easy time with things, and is using her roommate (Nate) sexually, and they share mutual friends. Damien Luck has been looking out and watching Rin for a year, and he has developed feelings for her. What you will find in this book is drama, intrigue, suspense, betrayal, CIA, Russians, reading a message on Nate's phone, confusion, shoes in cupboard, hearing Nate and a woman talking about her and her deceased mother, realizing Nate is not who he says he is, exceptional liar, duplicity, Mother is alive, CIA is breaking own rules, tears, falling out of cupboard, noticing surveillance, shouting "wont touch her again", realizing friends of Nate (Jen & Zach) also CIA, work, leaving early, going to visit Grandfather, talking, questions, bus, Grandfathers house, paper clippings gone, hospital, morgue, sneaking, attacked, not Nate, taking tape she took, told not to go down this road,, home, showering, confronting Nate, telling him to get out, next day, Nate breaking door, threatening Ria, attacker from hospital coming in and saving her, holding his hand out to Rin, tells her Nate got kill order, lets leave, packing, act like two kids on date, safe place, his name is Damien Luck, trying to get her to eat, refuses, let me go, threatening to trang and insert feeding tube, calling her Rin Bird, how?, only person who called her that dived off a building, phone call, shouting, Rin should have the choice, speaking to mother, handing phone back and gets told don't fall in love with daughter, replies, no promise, explanations, her mother saved him from the street, her government job application raised flags, CIA team to watch her Nate - Zach - Jen, tape is evidence of Russian woman, phoning mother, talking, protecting Rin for himself, Rin shouting/arguing, stating women can also use men, Luke walking out, coming back later, grill on roof, giving food to Ottis, kissing wants to love her, scared, tender loving intimacy, intruders, hide, meeting her mother Cora Lee, introducing Damien luck as her fiance, a stranger, trouble, red dots dancing over her mother and lover although this story ends on a cliffhanger I found the story-line and plot of the story is well thought out and written. The characters have personality with emotional feelings of fears, needs and desires.

Versions (Base Branch Series #7) by Megan Mitcham is a great read, just as good as the other books in the series I’ve read. One piece of advice before reading this, forget your preconceived notions about romance books, even romantic suspense, because Ms. Mitcham tossed out the old standard and used her own formula for this page turner. It is action packed and full of surprises. The clandestine nature of the plot draws the reader in from the beginning. Distinguishing the good guys from villains in this one kept me on my toes. Rin, the heroine, is a sassy, quick thinker with a sharp wit and a very likeable character. The hero, who shall remain unnamed so you figure it out for yourself, is the perfect protector, tough yet tender, with a similar past to Rin’s. I enjoyed the often witty dialogue and reading how Rin worked through whether or not to trust him. The story flowed well, but I would have liked a little more background on some of the secondary characters. The manner in which the duplicity of certain characters is discovered and then fully revealed is very inventive, especially playing on the background skills set for Rin. The plot is full of danger and desire and keeps the reader enthralled. I have a soft spot for Veteran’s, as I have several in my family, so there is a scene that touched me in particular and endeared me even more to a certain character, as if he wasn’t already perfect. And wow what an ending! It left this reader at once satisfied, yet hungry for more. I’m really looking forward to Virtues, the next in the series releasing Sep. 6.
All in all, Versions is a great read and I highly recommend it.
I received an ARC of this title for an honest review.

I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Nate Harmon and Darinda Lee are preparing to go out and meet friends at a restaurant. While he is in the shower, he gets a text message which Rin sees. It is strange and makes no sense, but she is uneasy. The whole way to the restaurant, she waits for him to tell her about the crazy message that must have been a mistake; but he says nothing. Already on edge, Rin didn’t notice the server that her friend Jen was drooling over until he spoke in her ear. She turned toward him and all but dove out of her seat, recognizing him as someone she had seen and admired while waiting for a bus one day. Her startled action caused him to lose his balance as well. After disentangling himself, he left and another server came to take their orders.

Still suspicious Rin searched the closet at home for something hidden. She heard the door opening and hid in the closet. The conversation she heard between Nate and an unidentified woman shook her completely. Could her mother, believed dead, actually be alive??? How is the CIA involved? Why is that server showing up everywhere she looks? Everyone had a different version of the story of that day her mother died and Rin needs to find the truth.

I enjoyed this book very much. So much was happening that I was a bit confused in spots, but that may have been the author’s intent -- it intrigued me enough to keep eagerly reading for more information. The main characters were strong and admirable. The suspense never let up. I highly recommend this to others. It’s a very worthwhile read.

This was my first Megan Mitcham book and I am left confused as to what genre she is writing. This is almost like a skeleton for a novel made into a novella by adding copious amounts of sex.

Rin has this HUGE backstory that we never really get to see. What's this about a savage gang initiation? Hers? Or was she the victim?

She is living with her boyfriend and they have violent sex yet she seems to like it (I didn't like him from the start - so good writing there). There were drinks with friends and a mysterious waiter. Her grandfather has Alzheimer's and has had a stroke but managed to cough out dramatic new evidence to Rin. Her mother committed suicide (or did she?), Rin is being monitored by the CIA (or are they?)and there are mysterious strangers everywhere. The story had only just got going and when I looked at my Kindle it was 88% done! As often happens with these books that miss the mark, the real action took place off the page and was dismissed in two sentences!

The author was recommended to me based on several other authors whose novels I really enjoy (even if I do suspend belief/realise they are formulaic) but this just missed the mark for me.

Rin is strong and know what she wants and how to get it most of the time. And other then the one time at a bus stop, has she ever wanted something that she couldn't have. Her boyfriend Nate, likes it hard, fast and any way he can get it. So when he gets a text message that doesn't make sense, Rin starts to get suspicious. It has nothing to do with another woman. That would be too too easy.
Her world is about to get complicated and she has to trust the one person she never thought she would see again let alone have the chance to love. But can she trust someone that she doesn't know? Her heart says Yes, Yes, Yes.
I think you'll have to read the rest yourselves as Ive never been a spoiler.
Fell in love with the characters and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

A bit different from the other Base Branch books, and shorter as this is more a novella. Rin doesn't realise that the guy she has been having a relationship with, even though not serious, is hiding something from her. Having seen a message that didn't add up she decides to investigate, as a result her life gets up turned for the umpteenth time. All she has in the way of family is her elderly grandfather who suffers severe dementia, alone and scared not knowing what to do next all she wants is her deceased mum for comfort. Lots of suspense as I expect from this series, violence and action with a bit of intense attraction to a mysterious man who keeps popping up unexpectedly. I enjoyed it and loved the characters plus all the surprises along the way, this book like the others leads into the next book at the end.

Rin is bored with her accountant look. She dares to change for a more wilder version of herself. She has a living "boyfriend" Nate. It is nothing serious they are just having fun. Everything falls apart one night when she reads a grim text in Nates phone completely unrelated to his football coaching job. Nothing and nobody is what it seems. So she goes to his grandfather with Alzheimer for answers. Her mother is dead o is she? She is alone in this world or is she? Then she finds Luck or he finds her and it's the start of her escape from the danger unknown. Thrilling, though short, run to find what version of the truth is the right version. Great read! And sexy scenes :)

What a fantastic read this is book seven in
the Base Branch series. You do not have to
read them in order to get the drif of the book
Rin was living with Nate who was kind of her
boyfriend she did not know that he was actually
spying on her to see if her mother was still alive.
One day when Nate was having a shower he received
a message on his phone and Rin read it with out him
knowing which did not make sense to her.
This is where she decided not to stay with him.
He did not take it very well and just before he could
lays a hand on him Luck stops him this is the start of the
relationships between Rin and luck.
I received this book for an honest review.
I'm definitely going to read the rest of this series

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. It is book 7 in the Base Branch series and is a stand alone story with a HEA. I recommend this book to all romantic suspense readers. Rin has lived tried to be a good girl and stay on the straight and narrow, until her world is destroyed when she reads a text on her boyfriends phone she is not suppose to see.. now she is running for her life. Luck has been watching over Rin for a year, he tried to stop her from messing up her life but it was just not to be. This is a book you wont want to put down. Lot of action and adventure to take you on.

I have read Versions! Let me just say couldn't stop reading it. Got it yesterday and read the whole thing. There was no down time in the book. Megan really knows her craft. This book has it all for the plot line sex scenes to the characters. This story will grab you. I found myself rooting for Luck an Rin with both of their pasts. They found a way to help each other and in the end find love. I want to just go in to the story further but don't want to ruin it for anyone! If you haven't read any of her stories then let this be your first. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

Sex in the first chapter sign me up!!! I have never read any other books in this series and I still loved it and realized that I need to read the rest. This was awesome. I loved all of it from the intrigue to the action. I couldn't ask for anything else to make this a better read. All of it was so well written this book seems like it could be read on its own without any other books in the series. (I had no clue what it was about before going in honestly because I don't like to read about a book before i pick it up.) The cliffhanger at the end though was pure evil genius.

Rin and Nate have been together for about a year and everything is going along great. The sex is great, even if it is just sex. But Rin met someone for what seems like a split second, and she can’t get him out of her mind, but she doesn’t know where to find him again. It’s been a long time. Rin also finds out that Nate isn’t who she thinks he is. What a great story. Once I started it, I couldn’t stop. It just drew me in for the fast-paced ride and I didn’t want it to end. Boy, am I glad there’s another book after this. I want more.

A very exciting and great read!! Rin is a no nonsense kick butt kind of girl and certainly isn't afraid to stand up for herself. Damien Luck turns out to be the good guy and thankfully so as after keeping watch over Rin for a year he fell in love with her. An intense story as Rin has thought her mother was dead, but finds out she isn't, and they are happily reunited. I really really liked reading this book.

mmediately, one is thrust into a puzzling mystery. Feels like I jumped onto a fast-moving roller coaster with no seat belt! Rin accidentally discovers a curious text that sets her off on a "Nancy Drew" investigation. The reader learns the clues to the mysteries and the revealed secrets as Rin learns them. It's a spy mystery, it's a little sweet romance, it's entirely too short and leaves one gasping for air. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Four stars.

For a novella, the book sure did pack a punch. I did get a little bit confused at first because I haven't read any other books in the series and there was a lot going on in the back ground that I didn't know about. The ending was a little abrupt but I now want to know what happens next. Received a copy in exchange for an honest.

Versions was a good book. Not great, but worth reading. I think it was too short and and really fast, but the story was a great one if only there was more of it. If you must read a quick story then this is for you. If it had been maybe a tad longer I think I would have rated it a five. But still good book to read. : )

Wow, I liked this book but it took some time to actually figure out what was going on and it ended very abruptly with a major cliffhanger, hopefully the next book is going to pick up where this one left off because Luck and Rin's story had no closure. Will definitely read the next story to see where this goes.

I loved this story! The downside was that it was a novella (insert sad face) The book started with a BANG lol literally and leaves you turning the last page and then quickly flicking back and checking page numbers...because it is a cruel way to leave us hanging..
Rin is bored...a series of events leave her questioning her "room mate" and her "friends" who are they really and what do they want??
Along comes Lucky. Rin quickly has to learn to trust Lucky, as the ride they are about to take together is going to answer some questions but raise others.
Cannot wait for book 8 in this series!!

Versions by Megan Mitcham: ***** A Kicka$$ good story
This is a gritty, fast paced and edgy story, with strong characters. The many layers are revealed as this story progresses, but ends with a cliffhanger for the ongoing layers to come - in the next book. I’m not waiting to start reading what’s next. Great writing! Disclosure: I got this story in a boxed set but wanted to review this story individually too.
