When an eccentric archeologist begins exploring the markings in the Seven Caves, it's only the beginning of a host of problems for Bailey. Her friends have become distant, she's being followed by a loose cannon reporter, and then her father, Ryan, is accused of murder. Find out what happens as Bailey learns more spells from the bakery witch coven and discovers who her birth mother is.
Constance Barker lives in the Midwest with her husband and two Akitas where she can look out from her screened porch onto a wooded area brimming with activity. Since she was a young girl she read mysteries, often given to her by her grandmother. She loved figuring out who the culprit was and sometimes she was right and other times startled at who the author picked as the assailant. Now she enjoys writing mysteries herself. When she isn't writing stories, she can be found in her favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas or shopping for bargains.
The puzzle keeps building in this one with a professor that believes that the caves are part of a system of gates that all converge onto one single point. A good well thought out plot but the characters, especially the main one, seem to be deviating from the characteristics we expect from them. Her acceptance of her mother's statement (I was right in who I thought was her mother), she didn't even ask her father's name. Not what I expected! When a professor comes to study the caves, his observations open an even bigger dilemma. Are the caves failing? Will the party they are meant to keep out be able to enter? History shows that they have tried before leaving a trail of bodies. When he is found dead and her father is arrested both witches and wizards move into help find the real killer? Will they do so? Will more secrets come to light?
In the third book, Bailey comes to find out an archaeologist by the name of Dr. Owen Turner is researching the Coven Caves. Upon his research he finds an unusual shape that appears to be a keyhole of some kind. He tells Bailey that at one time there were doors where one could wander through and come out to another cave but they are lead to Stonehenge. Bailey's dad, Ryan had spent an evening speaking to the professor about his theory and had realized when he had returned home that he had left his favorite pen at the professors. The next day the police came knocking to arrest Ryan Robinson for murder the weapon the pen to kill Dr. Owen Turner. How is this possible? Bailey believed he was framed. In the meantime Bailey finds out that one of the sister's who works at the Bakery is her birth mother. She tells Chloe her reasons why she had to give her up for adoption. Knowing now the truth hoping they can amend their relationship. Bailey enlists the help of her friends both witches and wizards to help her catch the real killer in hopes to set her father free.
I enjoyed this book. I must admit I started listening to book five and was getting lost because so much seemed to have happened that I wasn't a where of, I then read the blurb and found I was on the wrong book. So went back to this book and was immediately hooked (so much better in the right order). The book continues on from book two and in this book you learn a little bit more about Bailey's adoption and her birth mother. Which nicely balances out the story because it leads to it own problems. The mystery was interesting and although not a huge amount of suspects to choose from I liked following the clues left behind. I also really the mystical element and reason for the caves existence. Off to start book four and then maybe book five will make more sense. The Seven caves is closed while an eccentric archaeologist explores the caves where Bailey works. Giving her time to find out why her friends have become distant and seem to be avoiding her. The archaeologist makes some startling discoveries and has seems to know more about the caves than he should and promises to write a tell all article. The caves are actually doorways to another realm and the other doors holding back what is behind has already collapsed. Before he can do the exposa he is found dead with a pen belonging to Bailey's adoptive father laying beside him. She is shocked when he is arrested for the murder and will need all the help she can get from her coven of witches and even from a few wizards. The archaeologist journal is missing, can they use that to track down the killer? And if they do just what will they find? And what will happen if the archaeologist is right about the doors? The narrator puts a lot of effort into her story telling to make it exciting. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really enjoy this entire series! I am always ready for the next book as soon as I finish one. Constance Barker is one of my all time favorite authors!
This is the third book in the series about Bailey becoming a witch and learning the secrets of the Caves. It is one series you definitely need to read in order, otherwise there will be more confusion than fun in resolving the mysterious death of Professor Owen Turner.
When Bailey goes to the Caves to practice meditating, she arouses herself and finds a strange man is entering the Caves. Archeologist Owen Turner has come by invitation to study the caves. While it makes Bailey nervous to have him examining the Caves, she shares folklore and information about the Caves. She finds Professor Turner quite likeable. Unfortunately, someone else doesn't agree with her assessment, and murders him. Circumstantial evidence makes Bailey's father, Ryan, look guilty and he is arrested for the crime. Desperate to find the true murderer and absolve Ryan from blame, Bailey enlists her friends to help investigate. What follows is a little magic, a lot of friendship, and an investigation complete with odd spells on the guards of the crime scene.
This magical story is a good mystery as well as a great story about friendships. It is a clean read that is good for all ages. I can't wait until the next book comes out so we can learn more about the Caves and Bailey's life, as well as the changes in Piper and Avery's lives as well!
Story line keeps building through each novel and the characters develop with each episode. I love the strong interrelationships and the influence one character has on others.
There are a few typos (form when from was meant) but they do not distract from the story.
I received the book in exchange for an honest review.
I love Ms. Bakers mysteries, they keep you in suspence and you can,t put the took down .I,m disappointied I have to wait until August to continue reading about Bailey and her coven. Please start writing the nest one. I,m sorry to be in a such a hurry to keep reading about Bailey.
I enjoy this series and look forward to the next one. The reason for only 4 stars is i wish she'd go into a little more detail in some areas. Other than that, awesome books.
Convoluted plot with witches, warlocks and fairies all keeping secrets from everyone resulting in a murder, with planted evidence. But the real culprit is found. Routine.
I actually started the series with this book. I didn't realize this was the third. With that said I had no problem following the book. It was an entertaining quick read. It was free on Amazon unlimited so I gave it a try. I will read the next book to be released in this series.
Every once in awhile I NEED a light fun filled mystery. Reads quickly, not alot of deduction needed but still of the mystery genre and fun. If you need this also read this book.
This was a great read :) Loved the wonderful characters throughout this book . Storyline continued to keep growing and growing with each page that keep me interested :)
In book three, Bailey finds out the answers to secrets that she has wondered about one of them for years. Bailey is appalled when her adoptive father is arrested for murder. She and her friends and Coven mates work to prove his innocence.
Piper, Bailey's very pregnant and nonmagical friend, is feeling left out when Avery also displays magical talent. However, Piper also has her part to play in solving the mystery.
I think that these mysteries continue to get better. I would recommend for anyone who likes paranormal cozies.
