Alternate cover edition.

Autumn, 1448 at England’s Applewood horse fair in Wessex. The midnight peace is shattered when monastic knights invade the camp to reclaim a treasured chalice stolen by a Gypsy. The attack sets in motion a string of deadly pursuits, a mystery murder, and a political crisis involving the most prominent bishop in England.

In the center of the chaos, the beautiful half-Gypsy, Kadriya, yearns for true love. Raised by English nobility, she has passed the threshold of womanhood. Spurned for her mixed blood, she is now twenty and longs for acceptance. With one foot planted firmly in each of her ethnic shorelines, Kadriya struggles to find her place in the world. Teraf, an impetuous Gypsy tribal king of surpassing charm, proposes she choose her Romani legacy. When Kadriya accepts, she starts a wild journey that challenges her loyalties and tests her courage.

This historical adventure unfolds when Kadriya arrives at the horse fair, where Teraf will announce their betrothal. Kadriya stands at his side, basking in the warmth of her realized dream.

The dream becomes a nightmare, though, when Teraf is accused of stealing an emerald chalice and a powerful knight, John Wynter, delivers her fiancé to the gallows. Sir John hates foreigners, but it is this man alone who holds the key to Kadriya’s freedom. His bigotry blinds him, and if this fierce knight cannot regain his vision, he may fail in his duty. This rousing adventure is as tantalizing as the arousing love story within for, in a single bell’s toll, their life and happiness rest on finding the power of love—and one elusive chalice.

To my Goodreads friends, a hearty hello!

I'm Janet Lane, and I'm excited to have just written THE END to my fifth novel in my Coin Forest series. Now come the revisions as I polish it. :-)

I have coined my books,
"History, made passionate in medieval England."

When writing my stories, I never forget this mission statement. I always fall in love with my heroes and heroines, and I always enjoy heart-stopping adventures.

The spark for this series started with my first novel, a time travel, in which my heroine traveled to 15th century England, just as the War of the Roses was simmering into conflicts.

I visited that century with my protagonist, and couldn't leave. It's chock-full of fascinating characters, royalty and nobility.

The Coin forest novels have won five national and international awards--the IPPY, INDIE, HOLT, and EVVY. Each story is filled with love, honor and much adventure. The stories are character-connected, but can be read in any order.

Please drop into my medieval world. It's populated with passionate men and women with vitality, sensuality and wondrous dreams. They have the vision and the courage to suffer through many adversities and challenges to make their dreams come true.

A completly revised Review -Update 5-16-2016 - A re read with a buddy.

I will admit the second read was better, I guess I saw more details missed on the first go of it. I also feel that the discussions I have been having with Andrea (my buddy read) opened my eyes to some new aspects I overlooked and took for granted, Therefore I revised my rating to 4.5 stars.

Although this can be a stand alone I highly recommend reading these in order to get the full backround of the characters.

I want to say I adore authors who do their Historical research. Thank you Ms. Lane!! I am sorry for not mentioning this in my original review. After having recently read so many other HR's that have lacked accuarcy and believability I have a new appreciation for all the hard work Ms. Lane must have endured.

A brief summary:

Here the story continues with Kadriya, adopted and raised by Sharai, now grown and betrothed to gypsy king Teraf. Teraf is accused of stealing a holy relic chalice, is arrested and taken from the camp by Sir John and his knights to stand trial. Kadriya believes him innocent. She plots to ambush (with other tribe members) the knights in hopes of freeing Teraf, but it goes awry. Teraf is not freed but knight Sir John is injured so she (and a few tribe members) take Sir John hostage.

Sir John is a judgemental man, and loathes gypsies. The long and short of it is, Kadriya and Sir John go on a quest to find the chalice and eventually fall in love. Kadriya is only half gypsy (and half English) and struggles with finding her identity and place in the world while at the same time, she tries and succeeds at changing Sir John's views of her people.

The beginning was a bit slow and the action level was not as high as in "Tabor's Trinket," but it did not cause me to skim. The pace and action pick up considerably about 75% in and continues to climb until the end. The characters were likeable and complex, although I didn't feel as connected with Kadriya as I did for Sharai, she was still a wonderful and strong heroine. The romance build up was slow, natural, believable. I did not feel the connection between Sir John and Kadriya as I did for Stephen and Sharai until near the end of the book (About 80%).

I plan to (and have) continued with the series. I love this author and will continue to read her work.

For my friends who have concerns regarding the hero:

He was married before, but his wife left him for another man. He does not have any feelings for her anymore.
He had been without a woman for a very long time, years.
He never cheats or strays from Kadriya
Aside from a brief mention of his first wife there are no OW mentioned and nothing of any other past women.
He is not a manwhore. He is very honorable and sweet.

Other concerns some may have:

There is violence, but IMHO it is mild
I don't recall much if any swearing
There are some some loving scene but nothing harcore
No insta love
No editing issues I could see

I have and would certainly continue to recommend this book to friends.

This is the second book in my Coin Forest historical romance series, set in fifteenth century England during the so-called "Gypsy honeymoon period."

Kadriya, the young girl in Tabor's Trinket (book one in the series), is now a woman. With a blond nobleman father and a Gypsy mother, she is desperate to find her place in the world.

(Though the title shows hardcover, this book is currently available only in ebook format.)

Vividly drawn characters that leap off the page. I loved this novel!”

The author of this title is an RMFW member. For that reason, we do not rate these selections. We’re kind of biased. However, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t have them on our shelves. And you’ll see this message on any other titles that come from our members. We do hope that you’ll consider reading it, though. ;)

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. When I first started reading it I felt it would be just another romance book. I however was quickly taken back in time when gypsy's were thieves and outcasts. The heroin was of mixed blood with gypsy and English and was quite torn with who she was and if anyone would ever want her. Her strength and feistiness was rewarded by a night that caught battles of his own. They came together beautifully and the author, Janet Lane did a very nice job and showing that you need to be true to yourself regardless of your heritage. Very well written.
