Bitten by Mistake

Rate this book
From animosity to searing passion in a lunar cycle… but can their bond survive?

Wolf shifter Nathan Kohl’s pack is his whole life. Arrogant and handsome, he avoids commitment to anything or anyone outside of his pack. He works hard, plays hard, and pursues humans as lovers because there’s little to no chance of him forming a permanent bond. However, when Jared Taylor comes into Nathan’s life, every rule is broken.

After a bad experience, Jared vowed to never get involved with another shifter, no matter how much they got under his skin. Despite being physically attracted to Nathan, who’s all kinds of hot, Jared only sees an arrogant, domineering bastard.

A disastrous case of mistaken identity throws Nathan and Jared together until the next full moon. Forced to spend the next twenty-eight days in close proximity, they can no longer ignore the powerful attraction between them. Passion ignites, and their relationship takes a turn neither of them wanted.

But when the full moon comes, everything might change again.

Thanks to my girl Renée for a quick and dirty BR.

This book worked for me on so many levels: It's SEXY, passionate, and intense. It contains enough shifter action to satisfy rabid wolf fans, but the focus is most definitely on the relationship between Nathan and Jared.

When Jared first meets Nathan, he gives him the cold shoulder. Jared does not like shifters. He thinks they're arrogant and dangerous. He dated a shifter once and is determined to never make that mistake again.

Nathan is a little cocky, but he's a good guy: loyal to his pack, smart, and brave. Nathan doesn't mean to bite Jared. There's a rogue pack on the loose, and when Nathan goes after one of the rogue wolves, Jared, well ... Jared isn't supposed to be there.

Jared is NOT happy to be stuck with Nathan. He's even less happy to find himself drawn to the dark-haired, hot as sin shifter. The bite may cause Jared to change with the next full moon. But that's not guaranteed. Jared and Nathan have to wait it out. How will they ever pass the time?

I'm sure they'll think of something.

The thing is, Nathan could be in big trouble if Jared changes into a shifter. Biting someone without consent is illegal in this alternate world. Neither the humans nor the werewolves take kindly to it.

If that weren't enough, the rogue shifters are still out there, and to defeat them Nathan's pack has to work with a rival pack whose alpha has it out for Nathan.

I loved how the enemies-to-lovers trope played out. Jared goes from hating Nathan to not being able to imagine life without him. The two bond with the bite, but that bond may disappear with the full moon. And that scares Jared more than it should.

I fell in love with Nathan right away; his possessive side is all kinds of hot, and he puts Jared first. Jared's a bit of a brat initially, but he really comes round for Nathan, and there's some vivid comfort/healing, which always melts my jaded heart.

I really liked the urban setting Jacobs created. There's enough world building without info dumping. The story doesn't take place in the woods; it takes place in modern-day England (although it could have been anywhere, really; the setting doesn't feel particularly English, and the characters sound very American). We're talking alleyways, buildings, and territories.

The secondary characters are well rounded and add to the story. I particularly liked Luke, Nathan's pack mate and close friend, and Gareth, Nathan's beta. One of the betas in Nathan's pack, Alec, is kind of a douche, but we actually never see him on page.

There's some action and suspense here, but none of that overwhelms the romance or the incredible connection Jared and Nathan share.

The ending is a HEA, although it's not exactly the HEA I imagined for these two. A few plot points weren't entirely tied up, but I hope that's because the author is planning on this being the first book in a series. The epilogue sets up two of the secondary characters as potential MCs, and I can think of a few more who are *ahem* very suitable.

Honestly, I couldn't put this book down! It's super steamy and fast-paced. If you're a fan of shifters (hell, even if you're not), add this one to your list. Two thumbs up here!

This story was love at first sight for me. The moment that I began reading, it was all over and I was hooked.

I always enjoy a good enemies to lovers tale and in this story, as far as Jared is concerned, all shifters are the enemy.

So when Jared meets Nathan in a bar, and Nathan goes arrogant and all, "I know you want a piece of this," Jared firmly rebuffs those advances without delay.

But visually, Nathan was kind of...

Mixed with a bit of...

So Jared's mind was saying no, but his body didn't quite get the memo.

One accidental bite and a few weeks later, the guys are of course all...

One of my favorite aspects of this story was that, although Jared *needed* to stay with Nathan to get through the ordeal until the next full moon, it never really felt all 'kidnappy' and...

Neither did it feel like a damsel was trapped in a tower, spending her every waking moment looking to escape. The situation was what it was and they worked to get through it together.

I also enjoyed how 100% gay this story was, with no pressure from the pack for Nathan to be with a female, which I tend to see a lot in shifter stories.

I totally fell in love with the snark and banter, too. And seeing Jared trying his best to to keep a good 'hate-on' going...

While already-smitten Nathan was much more...

The sexy bits were very present on page, as in VERRRRRRRY, and these two sizzled whenever they got together.

There was also a lot of humor, whether intentional or not, with the biggest laughs for me being when each of the guys got overly-possessive when someone tried to touch their mate. That shit was priceless.

There was also some life threatening drama with a rogue shifter pack, which I didn't feel distracted from the story, allowing it to stay firmly in the romance column in my mind.

Overall, there isn't much I would've changed in this story, so I'd rate it a solid 4.5 stars.

This was my first book by this author and I really loved it.

This was really good. It had a great action, romance, and characters. The way it started off really draws you in and keeps your attention until the very end. I stayed up quite late finishing it. I regret nothing. LOL

This is definitely a case of I hate you that eventually turns into I love you. An enemies to lovers story. Oh how I love these kinds of stories. Especially when they are written as well as this one was.

Nathan is cocky and sweet. He's loyal to his pack and is willing to do anything for them. I found him to pretty damn brave in the end as well.
Jared hates shifters and lets that pretty loudly known when Nathan tries to pick him up in the beginning. He's been hurt pretty badly by one in the past and that one bad encounter has left him pretty jaded when it comes to shifters. He's decided to stick to humans when it comes to hooking up. But he still feels a bit of a pull towards Nathan which pisses him off.

There are rogue wolves afoot and they are leaving chaos behind them. When Nathan is on the chase after one Jared gets mixed up in it and Nathan bites him on accident. From here things get really interesting.

I feel like if I say too much I'll give a lot away. So I am gonna try and keep this short and to the point.

Read this. LOL

That was too short, huh?

When Nathan realizes it's Jared, the human who blew him off, that he has bitten he panics and takes him home with him. By law Nathan can be sentenced to death for biting someone without their consent so he's pretty scared and is hoping Jared will work with him to keep this a secret until the full moon. That's when they will know if the transformation will happen or if everything will fade away. The problem is Jared is not happy to be stuck with Nathan and sure isn't happy that Nathan bit him. But the longer they are stuck together the stronger the attraction becomes.

That's where I'll end this. I will say that it gets really good and intense when the feelings come into play.

This is one not to be missed by those of you who love a good shifter story.

Happy reading dolls! xx

This book is NOT a 4 star read, but I enjoyed it a lot!!! 🥰🥰

The whole story happens while the two guys are trapped in a fucking room because the shifter made the mistake of biting the human and the laws say that he can't, hence the human has to be trapped, if not the shifter can be put to death. See? 🤡🤡🤡 what a story was coming my way?

And I liked it!!! It had more sex than was necessary, not a very well transition from enemies to lovers, BUT the pack issues and dynamics were good actually and I liked the characters and the sex, so yeah, it's good for a light read. 🤭🤭

I was actually really curious about the pack leader's book and then I read the reviews. I'm heartbroken. 🥲🥲🥲

But this was good though. 😬

4.25 The Wolf-boy & The Blondie Stars

In this new world that Annabelle Jacobs created, biting a human without their consent is illegal and they could die for it, no matter how it happened. So when Nathan was chasing a rogue wolf he bit Jared by mistake and now his fate is in Jared’s hands, Jared who hated shifters. For him, shifters were a no-go zone, no matter how hot they were. Nathan could be killed, banned from his pack or went to the prison the rest of his life…

Told in dual POV, 3rd person, it’s the first installment in the "Regent's Park Pack" series and it’s not cliffy. It was my first read by this author and definitely won’t be my last. It’s slow-burn and more like a frenemies-to-lovers and it’s a bit angsty. I loved both characters and their sense of humor, it made me laugh. I liked Jared’s smart mouth, loved their possessiveness and their jealousy over each other! But what I most loved (don’t read the spoiler tag if you want to read the story) . My only complaint was why Jared didn’t panic when he was bitten and there was a possibility to become a wolf, the creature he hated! Overall, enjoyed it and hope you like it as well!

Just couldn't get in to this one. No point continuing when I was skimming anyways.

Didn't find either main character very likable honestly.

But the sex was hot so there was that. And it was free.

This shifter story was quite a bit different, than any of the other shifter stories I have read so far. It was acually a refreshing read. I really enjoyed it.

First some things need to be explained. In this story, shifters are not allowed to bite humans without their consent and the consent of the pack, to which the shifter belongs. We're not talking verbal consent, but actual paperwork that needs to be filed. If these rules are not followed, the shifter is breaking the law and will therefor be punished. Punishments can include death....

Also, being bitten by a shifter does not guarentee that the human will turn into a shifter himself. It takes untill the next full moon, to see if the shifter gene will take or not. In this (waiting) time, the human will show shifter-signs, such as growing claws and fangs etc. This however is not a sign that the human will become a shifter...it's just a side-affect of the bite.

 photo The-Fuck-Dafuq-Will-Smith-Fresh-Prince-Of-Bel-air-Wtf-Weird-GIF_zpsxsix5x4z.gif

This was all a bit weird to me, but very entertaining and it was all very well explained :)

Nathan is a shifter of a big pack. He only fucks humans, because the risk of bonding with a human, is way less than with another shifter and Nathan isn't looking for any kind of relationship.
When he sees Jared in a club, he tries his best to get into his pants. Jared however is having non of that. I really liked Nathan...he was awesome :)

Jared has sworn of all shifters 3 years ago, after a bad expierence. Since then, he has hated them with a passion and goes out of his way to avoid them. Eventhough he is physically attracted to Nathan, he isn't going to go there. No way !!

Later that night an accident happens and Jared is at the wrong place at the wrong time.... A bite gone wrong will change everything for both men.

Now the two of them are stuck together.....untill the new full moon arrives.

 photo full moon gif_zpslf8bniih.gif

I really enjoyed this one, though there were some things that bothered me. One of them being the half-shift. There is not a lot of shifting in this book. Don't expect a bunch of wolves because you are not going to find them. Nathan only half-shifts. He can do a full shift and he does so when it's a full moon, but we didn't get to wittness any of that, which was a bit of a dissapointment to me.

 photo blog-teen-wolf-glowing-eyes_zpspz9xcnym.gif

On the plus side...there is a whole lot of hot man on man loving going on !! I very much enjoyed the steamy-ness in this book. It does end in a HEA, but there is a bit of an open end to it, that makes me think....or hope....that there will be another book. If there is, I will surely read it !! 4 Stars from me

***3 Stars***

I liked the premise of this book and did enjoy reading it, but also found myself easily distracted by other things while reading. I think my main reason was that I never fully warmed up to Jared.

Shifters and humans co-exist in Annabelle Jacobs world, but not without some laws to keep order.

1. All shifters are required to have their DNA registered.

2. Any shifter bitings must be submitted to the government with agreement signed by the shifter pack and the human involved.

3. If a human is bitten without consent, punishment is chosen by the human. Punishment may be death. If the human cannot make a decision, the courts will step in.

Nathan, a shifter, and Jared, a human, meet at a club. Nathan is all about a hook-up and Jared wants nothing to do with him. He's over shifters and their condescending and arrogant ways. He was involved with a shifter not long ago, and that abusive relationship landed him in the hospital with a slew of injuries.

The two part ways, but later that night during an attack from a rogue pack, Nathan accidentally bites Jared. In a panic, Nathan takes Jared to his apartment to figure out his next steps. The two, begrudgingly, come to the conclusion that Jared will have to stay with Nathan until the next full moon to see if the bite took and he'll become a shifter. If all goes well, nothing will happen and at the end of the month the two can part ways and never see each other again.

If only things were that easy...

Nathan stole the show for me! I absolutely adored him. The progression of his relationship with Jared made sense to me. He couldn't control the things his body was feeling and going through, and his vulnerability to all that was so endearing.

The two definitely had chemistry. That "gotta have you" sex craze was off the charts hot. Gotta love those hormones!

What bothered me was Jared running hot and cold through almost all of this book. He understood what was happening to his body and how his heart was involved, but the constant yo-yo'ing with how he treated and spoke to Nathan outside of sex was frustrating.

I understand the hesitancy and the judgment against shifters after what he's been through...but does EVERY shifter, especially the ones who have shown you nothing but care and respect, deserve to be treated like shit because of that one asshole. No. People were trying to help him and he made rude comments about it every step of the way.

The plot was interesting enough, but around the middle it started feeling a bit repetitive. And I feel like the whole rogue pack suspense element was a bit underdeveloped.

Will I read the next book? I'm not sure. I saw that it's about Seb, Jared's best friend. I didn't like him much in this book (he was even worse than Jared with his hate for shifters) and I don't know if I can deal with another book with a MC who hates the existence of the other MC, especially if he'll end up running hot and cold through most of the book too.

I enjoyed this interesting take on m/m shifter romance. In this story, it is illegal to bite a human without his/her consent, whether the bite "takes" and they shift at the next full moon or not. And the bitten party has the right, under law, to decide on the punishment of the shifter who did the biting, even up to death.

In the middle of pursuing a menacing, rogue shifter group in his area, Nathan is running through the streets, sees one of them, and goes for the kill bite. He realizes too late that he grabbed the wrong guy and has bitten a human, Jared.

He convinces Jared not to turn him in and to wait and see if the bite does, in fact, "take" at the next full moon. There were lots of little details that needed to add up as to WHY Jared would be forced to live with and hide in Nathan's apartment, which was in a building full of shifters with heightened senses of hearing, smell, etc. It was in these details that I got a little eye-rolly (I made it a word, deal with it).

For example:
1. The Bite - even though it healed quickly, could be "seen" up until the full moon by shifters because of their heightened sense of sight. Dafuq? Ok, that's a new one for me, but I'll roll with it. As a result, Jared couldn't go out in public or even leave Nathan's apartment.

2. Humans who've been bitten start to experience shifter qualities after a bite, before the full moon......wait for it........even if the bite doesn't wind up "taking." So even though Jared starts growling and sprouting fangs and claws at high anxiety times, that doesn't mean he will turn at the full moon. Dafuq???

Ok, so those lines of ...ahem... logic were necessary to follow the plot. Got it. After that, I really did enjoy how this played out. It was a fresh take, particularly the mates aspect that came into play as it unfolded.

Jared and Nathan were both a bit immature at the beginning of the book, and this experience with its potential tragedies really showed them some perspective. Falling in love didn't hurt either. And Ms. Jacobs knows how to do some hawt shifter sexy times!

If you are looking for something fun, fresh, and with some low to moderate angst, I'd give this one a go. Recommended.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Me actually likey*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed this one. One of the things that did bother me a bit was the timeline and the insta-love feels it gave. BUT the insta-love wasn't something that really bothered me as it wasn't necessary the main focus, which helped me enjoy the book instead. The focus was more on the bond and on the possibility of losing it. It was quite interesting.
“I’m scared that I’ll wake up and there’ll be this big empty space here—” He pressed gently against Nathan’s chest. “—where I should be.”

Another thing was the pack. Though this book is a shifter book, werewolves, it didn't exactly feel like one. There was something missing, I think. Perhaps I wanted more of the animalistic side of the animal forth, or more pack business instead of human business... Like them driving vans and all. I didn't get that part.
“I know it’s hard for you to understand, but even though the bite itself is fully healed, it left a mark behind. It’s like… like an imprint underneath the skin.”
“Like magic.” Jared deadpanned.

Nathan Kohl (29), the shifter, and Jared Taylor (25), the human, worked quite well together. I liked their bond, their possessiveness and how they didn't lose their personality even though they are bonding. You know me; I love possessive, alpha males with a strong animalistic side. Though the characters in this book weren't alpha males, they were still awesome and they were possessive indeed. Overall, it was a alright, easy read. I liked it. Not the best shifter book, but still awesome.
They had a plan, a flaky-as-fuck plan, but a plan nonetheless. And now this—a complete one-eighty. Fuck.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Paranormal Romance (M/M)
Series: - Series (Standalone?), Book One
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Nathan Kohl
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Probably.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure.
Will I read this again in the future? - Who knows?

Meh.

The setup, the "relationship" and the battle. I didn't get it. Any of it.

There was so much going on and nothing was explained and what was explained didn't make sense to me. For such an organized Pack it seemed they were all pretty clueless.

My favorite part was them meeting in the bar. After that, meh.

Oh well, it happens. Everyone else seemed to love it.

Really enjoyable read

I'm not usually a reader of shifter related books, Kendall McKenna's Tameness of the Wolf being the exception, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

While werewolf politics played the major role in the plot for this story, it wasn't the biggest driving force between the two MCs, that was firmly in the sexual attraction and tension front and it was very well done.

There are a few narrative plot points which don't get explained, like how Jared bought his Camden flat, worth nearly a cool half million quid, which is never fully revealed as his graphic designer salary would have to be insanely high for him to have bought it outright. I just told myself it was probably family inheritance and moved on!

The emotional elements relating to the werewolf relationship parts of the story were well done, as were pack dynamics and the overall world building of the culture.

It's set in London but I didn't feel a particular British vibe from any of the characters or in the locations settings but, again, it wasn't anything which distracted from the relationship part of the book.

And oh boy, what a relationship it was! The enemies to lovers aspect was well played out, the reasons for their confinement together made sense and I liked that the ending wasn't the obvious choice and instead left room for manoeuvre.

Hot smexy throughout and a truly powerful connection between Jared and Nathan really pulled this story together.
I'd definitely read more about these type of shifters.

This was fun and refreshing to read a shifter book without knotting and not so heavy in the Alpha/Omega universe. The world building has plenty of details about shifter life and the concepts around biting/bonding/mates etc was thought out. The plot isn’t perfect, loose ends don’t get quite tied up and there are some inconsistencies and silly name mistakes, but I was easily able to look past these and just enjoy the story for some easy entertainment value. I’m keen to see more of this series, feels like this first book has some kinks to iron out but Im feeling positive book 2 is going to be stronger.

My main gripe actually is that although this is set in London and the author appears to be English from her author note the story doesn’t feel particularly British. They sound like they could be American, and the setting is rather generic, which I was a little disappointed by. Oh and I felt like there was a key scene in the end that we needed and didn’t get.

MM Romance
Forced Proximity
5 Stars ⭐️

🎵Included for free with my Audible subscription
🎵Narrated by: Antony Ferguson: New to me but loved his style and accent 💗

It’s so very rare I have no complaints about a book but this is that book and I absolutely adored it. I loved the couple and the characters so much that when I finished listening to it, I listened to my favorite parts again. I’m pretty sure I would have liked this book had I just read it but the narrator was so talented that he had me laughing at the ridiculousness, emotional about what the outcome would be, flustered by the sex scenes and the entire experience made this book a complete standout.

The premise of this is exactly what the title suggests with Nathan mistaking Jared for a shifter his pack has had problems with and bites him in the neck to send a message. Poor Jared had just been scented in a club by an overly aggressive alpha who stole his wallet and was just trying to go home when the bite happened. Once Nathan realizes he bit the wrong guy and he’s now unconscious in his arms, he makes a decision that puts these two in close proximity. Anyone who reads shifter books knows that biting a human in the neck has repercussions which these two try but ultimately can’t ignore as time goes on. What makes this even more messy is Jared’s disdain for alphas but that only added to the greatness because of all the snark.

As much as I’m interested in the rest of the series and this pack, the next book is about Jared’s best friend Seb and he was a bit unlikeable in this one. However, it’s included for free on Audible with my subscription too and has the same narrator so I’m most likely going to be giving it a whirl. While I have no complaints that ruined the book, I would have loved knotting but this didn’t appear to be an ABO universe even though it had alphas and betas. I don’t know enough about the omegaverse to know if this is possible or not but despite not having the knotting, I loved this book. One of the best books I’ve read all year.💗

Maybe, just maybe *G*, I have to admit to myself that I actually really like shifter romance. T. J. Klune's Wolfsong paved the way for more.

I LOVED this a lot. Why?

1. absolutely brilliant enemies-to-lovers plot:
(Jared's snark and his 'mildly' caustic banter with Nat is very entertaining)

2. a short stretch of the fake-boyfriends trope:
Needless to say that the fake part doesn't last too long.

3. 'wolfy things':
I liked the alternative universe Annabelle Jacobs creates. There is some very interesting detail,
even if it is spun clearly in favour of the plot at times.
And for some reason, extra strength, claws, fur, enhanced sense of smell etc really appealed to me.

4. good drama and plenty of angst:
I was intrigued and sucked in right from the beginning, holding my breath again and again.

5. the feels:
ok, there was one part where I teared up. I totally rooted for both, Nat and Jared, and found their
protectiveness (some would call it jealousy) towards each other cute and funny at the same time.
(Lots of growling going on there, XD)

M/M romance has definitely proven this year to be a new favorite of mine. And Bitten by Mistake was another great addition to this genre.

Never had he thought he wanted this—this closeness, this feeling of completeness that filled him from head to toe and made his wolf preen with contentment. Now he couldn’t imagine being without it.

I have a very big weakness for shifters, because let’s face it they are usually so damn sexy with their growly and alpha personalities and I always love the bonds that shifters form with their mates. So I was very excited to read my first M/M shifter romance!

I liked both Nathan and Jared. Nathan was at first a bit difficult to figure out, he came across as a playboy only wanting to have some fun, but after he mistakenly bit Jared he tried to do the right thing for his pack and for Jared, and I liked that about him. Nathan was a lot more playful than Jared, while Jared was quite serious and very wary of shifters after what happened to him with another shifter.

I liked that the attraction was there right from the start, but that the romance was slow building as both had to learn that they could trust the other. The sexy times were VERY hot, and I just loved the bond forming between them. Jared and Nathan was so sweet together, and their romance was sexy and so very romantic.

The world created was quite interesting, and I would definitely want to learn more about some of the secondary characters, like Nathan’s best friend Luke, and Jared’s best friend Seb. I hope there will be a book for Seb and Tim the shifter doctor.

This was my first book by this author, and it will definitely not be my last.

Well this was a nice little surprise. I'm fairly new to shifter stories and am finding it quite hard to be pleased with the shifter stories I read. Well, I'll for sure read the rest of this series, maybe after that I'll know what I'm looking for.

Nathan and Jared are both well crafted and amazingly fun characters and I really enjoyed their banter and chemistry. I found myself a teeny tiny bit bored when the story went from all that banter and chemistry to steam. A lot of steam. While I was there for it for a while, it got a bit too much. It does however make sense for the story. So I can't complain too much.

I can't wait to read book two.

I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I really enjoyed how the fact that there were genuine reasons behind things like the scenting (even the one peeing time 😭), and the relationship wasn’t overshadowed by the plot.

I was disappointed that the last few sex scenes were fade to black, it was like once the author got both of them switching out of the way that they just stopped writing the sex scenes. But that’s the only real negative thing I have to say about it.

Great start to a shifter series!

Hot tension, fun to read, interesting shifter world building, no whiny characters. Totally worked for me. I thought I knew what the ending was going to be, but I was surprised....yay!

De 3.5 a 4. Bastante entretenida aunque el último tercio se me hizo aburridillo, abstenerse si no te va el insta-love y el tema soul-bound tan típico de este subgénero. A por el segundo casi seguro.

There are few paranormal authors that continue to keep the necessary fundamentals of shifting in play and add fresh new twists to their wolves, and Jacobs is most certainly one of them. I have come to rely on her wolves to keep me enthusiastically entertained and The Regent’s Park Pack pulled it off spectacularly. I was enthralled from the beginning to the end and could hardly stand the wait until the sequel was released. A flash of my inner needy-greedy reader blazed a time or two. I’m most definitely hooked on this shifting community and for good reason. Jacobs delivers the classic opposites attract between the sexiest and most scrumptious duo.

A shocking mistake brings Nathan and Jared together; a simple wrong place at the wrong time scenario that comes with a steep price. Nathan is a shifter. Jared is human. Nathan accidentally bites Jared and everyone quickly understands not all mistakes can be rectified. It’s done. Now what? I breathlessly raced to find out…and if I was flailing and hollering as I chased the boys through their adventure you don’t have to tell anyone, right?

What's to like: This pack is complex and intriguing. I found the hierarchy especially interesting. The laws and order was fascinating as well. It was all very well laid out and even though the pack is a decent size, I never had that confusing overwhelmed state of ‘too many voices‘. Details web to cover all of the logistics of these shifters. Overall, it was through and extremely well executed. I liked the Beta’s and the extended crew as well.

What's to love: If you like your shifters emotions and attitudes to cover the full array of cocky, stubborn and fiercely protective AND tender, sweet and gentle, you’ll be a happy reader. Nathan is incorrigible, maddening and too sexy for his own good. Jared can play the ‘I don’t want you’ game all he wishes, but he’s not fooling anybody. He wants Nathan just as much as Nathan wants him. But he’s not going to fall into his solid, capable, firm *sigh* oh sorry, arms without a fight. On the other hand, I adored how perfect Jared was for Nathan. Both of them were resolute with their plans for the future. Nathan wasn’t looking for a mate and Jared surely wasn’t looking for a shifter relationship. But then the mistaken bite occurs and the clock refuses to turn backwards. They are forced to face the future. Will it be together? Or are they on borrowed time just as they begin to bare their hearts? *gentle nudge* I think you should find out.

Beware of: Growling possessive lovers. Biting, marking, and claiming! Awww yeah baby, you’re gonna get it all. But you’re gonna have to work for it. I’ll let you in on a secret…you won’t complain.

This book is for: If the shift speaks to you, this is a phenomenal intro to a pack I can’t wait to get to know better. The best friend and the pack doctor are next? Shall we meet there? Excellent! Till next time…..

So, like a lot of first books in a series this one introduced a ton of characters; and as I've said in other reviews for different books I think doing that somewhat detracts from the rest of the story...although, given how convoluted the reasoning for hiding things, for setting up a "fake boyfriend" type situation and going through all those detailed motions in this book to make it seem real, it's maybe a good thing I was distracted.

Yeah, yeah...okay could have been some heinous consequences if Jared had escaped and gone to the police. But he's the second MC in this story and that just didn't seem like a likely scenario, because he said he wouldn't and appeared a bit horrified that another's life could be in his hands. And even with how Nathan described the pack dynamics and history it still seemed like all of that scent-marking, staying in the soundproof room, hardly leaving the apartment...was just over-kill. For most of the book I thought Alec (another unit leader but still in Nathan's pack) was the one challenging the packs (maybe hoping to take over as Alpha?) because of how he was portrayed. But the rest of the characters all seemed to be part of a tight-knit unit and part of a strong, caring pack with a reasonable Alpha in Cam. So I just didn't get how it was necessary to keep digging a bigger hole with "protecting" and hiding Jared (or keeping an eye on him until the full moon) other than to create drama for drama's sake. Of which I am not a fan.

That said, I did like the world-building. I liked a lot of the side-characters (more so than even Jared & Nathan) and many of them seem to have their own books, so yay! Will definitely continue with the series to see where it goes, because if nothing else I ADORED that sometimes the bite doesn't work and that even if there are some traits expressed during the full moon or during states of heightened emotion, the still-living human will not become a werewolf. Very nice twist.

Oh, and it was sweetly romantic at times. When they were reading the online blogs about bonding...well, THAT was when I could actually feel the fear, the worry, and believed it. Those parts were achingly real. So that bumped up my rating at the end.
