In this episode, two phone calls arrive at the same time, one in Houston, the second in South America with the news that Kevin has been kidnapped! Again. Roget tries to free young Trodat, but he too is taken.
Saxton is called into action to make a rescue attempt, but Odessa has calculated the odds that not all of the men will make it home alive. The adventure continues to evolve as Bobby Ray Blakemore makes a call that changes the story line completely. All soon learn that it is really not that easy being Mr. Blakemore.

This is a difficult review to write. I don't generally like short novels because there's not enough time to develop the characters or the plot. I may not have purchased this book if I had known how short it was. For that reason, take this review with a grain of salt.
The storyline was novel. It is set in a drug world and touched on some rather sensitive issues. That was interesting. I wish those issues had been delved into further. In this instance, the themes are too serious to be handled so lightly. Because there's no time to truly examine the characters' feelings toward the situations they encounter, they tend to come off as cavalier.
In addition, the plot line requires a major suspension of belief. It's hard to read this story without continually judging the events and the characters reactions to them. Strangely enough, I was able to get past this problem. Just be prepared for the unrealistic plot.
Overall, the story was okay. It is a quick read. The characters are likable. The problems with the book are those inherent in many short novels. If your short on time and looking for something to read, this could fill the bill.
Oh, Lawd! This book is GOOD! It's a short, funny and suspenseful story. Odessa and Saxton are so good together. Their personality, chemistry and how the plot unfolds kept me intrigued. What's going to happen next in the second installment of The Blakemore Files? I'm so ready to find out.
This book was s quick, fun read. Although there were some technical issues with the book, I enjoyed the overall story. I loved how Saxton stepped in to save Odessa without thought. Then Odessa opened her mouth to create a backstory and things went downhill. She proved to be a major asset in the situation they fond themselves in. I enjoyed that she was great at thinking on her feet.
This is a great short novella that introduces Odessa Trodat and Saxton Blakemore. Saxton rescues Odessa when she is being chased by human traffickers and drug dealers, who Saxton apparently works with. Odessa and Saxton pretend to be engaged to help keep her safe. Odessa is one tough woman. In the end she does not wait to be saved, but takes matters into her own hands. Saxton appreciates her spirit and courage. Although the book is short, the story feels completely developed. The ending provides a great introduction to book two. I can't wait to see what trouble the Blakemores find next.
Odessa is visiting a port while on a cruise. Luckily, she is aware of her surroundings and realizes she is being herded by some scary looking dudes. Saxton sees what is going on and rescues her. It seems like all should be well but the overseer of the human trafficking, Mateo spies that Saxton has helped Odessa. Mateo has it in for Saxton. From here, Mateo’s search for revenge has Odessa and Saxton actually getting married. Odessa is not a woman to be trifled with, she is an actuary. She learns along the way that Saxton is a drug runner and that is how he knows Mateo and his cousin Renteria who is a drug lord. I very much enjoyed the way this story is unfolding and am on to book 2!
I finished as much of this book as I could 39%. I've always been put off by the seedy world, and am very particular about how I can take it in entertainment. I thought there would be more of a on the run, good guy bad guy book here. Maybe I didn't wait long enough but the book has a humorous lilt, yet gave a serious scene (with the trafficked girl) at the same time. Drugs and trafficking are serious, and can't be given a humorous lilt, or attitude of nonchalance for me. Maybe someone a little desensitized to the seedy world may feel differently.
Olivia Gaines just spins such an interesting story. I've really enjoyed her Blakemore Files series. I have come to know and love all of the characters. The suspenseful dramas are very interesting and filled with side splitting humor. Gammy Patsy's chilli seems to be the one thing that everyone agrees on and is the subject of laughter from everyone. What else will the Blakemore, Delgado and Trodat family have to endure.
This was a captivating ride to Snarkville that had me entranced for 2 hours... Ms. Olivia's BWWM IR novels are quickly becoming a permanent part of my top 10 "Gotta Have It" list of IR Romance novels..
My only issue with this book was the cliffhanger, and the lack of an satisfying epilogue... Other than that, this series is just too addictive..
Saxton and Odessa proved to be a formidable couple after Saxton kept her from being kidnapped by members of the sex and drug trafficking cartel he had infiltrated as an undercover agent. It is good to see a confident beauty who can wield a weapon just as efficient as a man and it brings an even greater dynamic to the game when that beauty is of a darker hue. Odessa's dad and mom were no slouch either and remembering her sister from one of the other Blakemore stories she is no slouch either! This book touched on an issue that still devastates too many people all over this word and the ineptness by the agencies charged to dismantle them. Art speaks the truth about that type of life that when you really consider it, affects all life. I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to reading others in this series.
This was horribly written. Full of grammatical errors and obviously not edited at all. Full of racist stereotypes about Mexico, glorification of drug cartels, & casual cruelty of abused women. What drove me bonkers was the switch in perspective within a sentence! As a reader you were never sure whose thoughts you'd end a sentence with and who'd be narrating the next.
Seriously, this whole thing was such a hit mess.
Yet the story was still fun despite everything being all wrong. I debated how to rate it. I settled on 2 stars. I think what saved it from a DNF or 1 star review was that it's a novella so quick to get through.
And the only reason I read it was I needed a book set in a sister city of another book I'd just read for my reading challenge and this book was set in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and its sister city is Santa Barbara, CA from my last read, By the Book.
Saxton Blakemore immediately knew Odessa was being herded by humans in trafficers. He only had minutes to save Odessa Trodat and he did. They were still not out of danger with the cartel and how to figure out how they would remain alive and get out. He was looking for redemption from a previous rescue gone bad. He and Odessa found themselves falling for one another, despite how they came together, he remained respectful of Odessa. Odessa used her knowledge to charm the head of the cartel and free enslaved sex workers.
Olivia wrote a story that was enjoyably interesting and heart stopping drama. I can't wait to read what their next adventure will be.
WOW I enjoyed this book and it easily keeps you on edge of suspense. There's a powerful combination of suspense and excitement that gives fuel to your romance. All of the characters are so captivating and the family is so amazing and their relationship is magnificent. The story is so suspenseful and when you add in their family drama, along with their emotions about their love and the intriguing twists they go through you have a tale that's a great read that's truly delightful. This is definitely a awesome story to read but for one thing and that's the cliffhanger but if you enjoy a good cliffhanger then this is it.
A Very Good and Hilarious Interracial Romantic Comedy
Being Mrs. Blakemore (The Blakemore Files Book 1) is a very good and hilarious interracial romantic comedy that earned a rating of five stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it to be laugh out loud funny. I truly recommend this novella to everyone who enjoys reading romantic comedy.
This is a very good intro to the Blakemores & Trodats. You just get a hint at the depths and layers to everyone's characters and backstories but hang in there and keep reading. You won't be disappointed!👍
I have read other books by Miss Gaines and was curious about this series! Didn't let me down! Loved the spark between Odessa and Sexton. I was sorry to see the story end. Going to look for the next book!
Great book! Very fun and exciting! Odessa is a complete badass and Saxton is lucky to have her. Odessa is down for anything and I love that her family are gun toting enthusiasts just waiting for anyone to try them!!! On to the next one!
I love this first book I fell head over heels in love with these two characters they had me laughing and crying. Plus the trouble they get into. I love them with all my heart how they go through things as a couple an on their own. I am team Blakemore.
I truly enjoyed this intro to the adventures of the Blakemores! It combined intrigue with an element of danger along with a dash of passion, love and romance. I look forward to reading the rest the Blakemore Files series.
So, I'm late to the game on this one. I started reading her mail order brides series first. But I am enjoying this book so that I am going to buy the whole series. Why? Olivia never disappoints me with her books.
I loved this story. Both lead characters were so enjoyable. Saxton was sexy, dangerous and smart. Odessa was beautiful, smart and daring. I also loved Odessa's parents, too funny. Loved all of them together. I want more!!
I enjoyed reading this book! I liked how Odessa handled herself! I loved how Easton knew what was happening and swooped in to save the day! This is the beginning of a great series! I can't wait to read the next book! I definitely recommend this book!
This was not what I was expecting and I weirdly liked that. This came off as a thriller that quickly became a rom/ com. I love me a strong and smart female lead and Odessa is exactly that. Saxton, my man had his nose wide open for his newly acquired wife; I can't wait to read their next adventure.
I love the story . Mrs Blakemore is my shero . Mr Blakemore is surprised by her ability and do the things she does to survive. I want to continue to read the series to she what she does. So far so good .
Odessa Trodat started her day in Mexico with a smile doing what she loved best, shopping till she dropped. Only to find herself being hand cuffed to a handsome stranger..
The banter between Odessa and Saxton kept a smile on my face.
First time reading Olivia Gaines books. I rather enjoyed the book and will for sure read more of her novels. However, I know its a short story so straight to the point but I wanted more details. I am hoping some of the standalone have more details. Overall nice read.
