Jessica Bird also writes as J.R. Ward

Jessica Rowley Pell Bird was born on 1969 in Massachusetts, USA. She is the daughter of Maxine F. and W. Gillette Bird, Jr. She began writing as a child, penning her thoughts in diaries as well as inventing short stories. She read her first Harlequin Presents novel in a rose garden when she was in her teens. She was hooked immediately. By the time she went to college, she had boxes and boxes of Harlequins and Silhouettes. Every year, her mother would ask why all those books had to live in the house and Jess would reply that if even one of them disappeared she would know. (She'd catalogued them.)

Jess finished her first romance manuscript the summer before her freshman year of college. She attended Smith College and graduated with a double major in history and art history. She then received a law degree from Albany Law School. Shortly after that, she began working in the healthcare industry in Boston. She spent many years as one of the premier medical center’s Chief of Staff. While working as a lawyer in Boston, she completed two novels more and started a number of partials. In 2001, Bird married John Neville Blakemore III. Both her mother and her new husband kept telling her to send something in to an agent, a publisher, the Tooth Fairy, anyone. She thought they were nuts, but eventually got her nerve up and bought a lot of stamps. Since getting published, she has written contemporary romances as Jessica Bird and paranormal romances as J. R. Ward. She has been a Rita Award finalist, received two Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice nominations and has been a HOLT medallion finalist.

New England born and bred, Jess is surprised to find herself living south of the Mason Dixon line. (But that's what happens when you marry a Southern gentleman.) She and her husband live with their golden retriever, who oversees her writing in a supervisory role.

I bought these because... well... JR WARD!...this is no brotherhood type book... i actually had to google to see if i had been duped and another author was riding her coat tails.... The style of writing is so incredibly different from what I've come to expect after reading all of the BDB and Fallen series... writing style is bland, characters lack depth, story line is completely without anything to hold interest. Ward... im still a fan... but c'mon... you cant go from hot and spicy to oat meal and expect a fan base to be thrilled.

"The Moorehouse Legacy Complete Series" Box Set by J.R. Ward.

This box set includes The Rebel, The Player, The Renegade and The Rogue. These books are reissues of Ms. Ward's previous books written under the name Jessica Bird and given new names.

4 stars - The Rebel - Book 1 in the Moorehouse series.

Such a cute and loving story. Frankie Moorehouse is the owner of her family's Bed and Breakfast and it's on it's last leg. Her cook just quit and she only has 4 guests. Only 2 rooms out of 10 rented. It looks like Frankie may have to sell her childhood home if she doesn't come up with the money she owes the bank. But then, Nate Walker walks into her life, into her place of business actually. And guess what? He's a chef looking for a job!

Nate Walker is a chef looking to buy his own restaurant with his friend Spike. When his car breaks down, he ends up at White Caps B&B and decides to work there for the summer, giving Spike time to find a good restaurant.

The last thing either Nate or Frankie expected was to be attracted to each other. But Nate's leaving at the end of summer and Frankie is definitely not going anywhere. Is a summer fling enough for them? Or could there be something more?

Such a great story. Both Frankie and Nate have issues to deal with from their pasts. Frankie dealing with her feelings about her parents' deaths and Nate dealing with commitment and trust issues. Great chemistry between Nate and Frankie. Not extremely hot and heavy or too explicit. Their passion works well with the story. I really liked all the supporting characters like Frankie's sister Joy and brother Alex. Teasers are given as to who Alex and Joy end up with in their books. Overall, this was a great heartwarming romance and I can't wait to start the next one.

4 stars - The Player - Book 2 in the Moorehouse series.

Aww! Such a loving story. Joy Moorehouse has loved and Grayson (Gray) Bennett since she was young. But Gray being older than her, he's never noticed her as anything but Frankie's little sister. When Joy catches Gray staring as her with more than friendship in his eyes, maybe he realizes she's not so young anymore. When Joy is asked to design a dress for her friend and has to travel to New York, she asks Gray for a ride...well, he's going there anyway. Surely he won't mind. And if they get to know each other, all the better.

Gray has certainly noticed that Joy is all grown up. And there's definitely an attraction between them but it would never work. Besides being older than her, he's just not the right man for her. She's just too innocent for him. And he's too jaded and wary to trust anyone. Comes with the job of being a Political Consultant. But denying his feelings for Joy is getting more and more difficult.

Very good story line in this book. Joy has a lot to figure out about where she wants to go with her life and what she really wants to do. Follow her passion for dress designing or stay home and take care of her family? You really see the growth in her character as the story progresses. Gray has a lot of issues to deal with concerning trust and fidelity. How he tries to handle his feelings makes him a little harsh at times. The chemistry between Joy and Gray is sensual, hot and loving throughout the book. I really enjoyed it.

4 stars - The Renegade - Book 3 in the Moorehouse series.

Aww! Such a heartbreaking/heartwarming story. Alex Moorehouse has loved Cassandra Cutler since the first moment he met her. Unfortunately, she was married to his best friend Reese. When Reese is killed in a tragic boating accident and Alex is the only one that survives, he's the only one that knows what really happened on that boat. Riddled with guilt and injuries from the accident, Alex can't stand to even be near Cassandra. His love for her is one sided and he can't betray his best friend's memory. Cassandra would never forgive him anyway if she found out what happened on that boat.

Cassandra is excited to start her new job; planning and designing the reconstruction of the Moorehouse B&B, White Caps, which suffered a fire not long ago. The only problem is Alex. He was her husband's best friend and he's always hated her. Never talked to her, avoided eye contact and avoided her completely when possible. She doesn't understand what she did for him to hate her so much. Well, he'll just have to get over it. She won't let his sisters, Frankie and Joy, down just because he has a problem with her.

I really enjoyed this book. Very emotional throughout. Alex is a man dealing with unrequited love and issues of abandoning his family. Cassandra is a woman coming to deal with the truth about her marriage and how she really feels about her past and how she's going to take on her future. The chemistry between Alex and Cassandra is really steamy. The other two characters I really liked where Sean O'Banyon and Spike Moriarty. They kind of reminded me of Ms. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series in the use of language; a lot of the same expressions the Brothers use.

Even though all 3 Moorehouse characters got there stories told, Spike's story is next and is included in the Moorehouse Legacy series even though he's not a Moorehouse. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this story.

5 stars - The Rogue - Book 4 in the Moorehouse series.

My favourite of them all! Michael "Spike" Moriarty is not a Moorehouse but he's been in the series since the beginning.

Spike hasn't been able to stop thinking about Madeline Maguire ever since he met her...in her bra and panties...and she didn't really seem to care that he saw her that way. He's definitely attracted but nothing could ever happen between them. Spike doesn't do relationships. Especially when women find out about his past and run for the hills. When his friend Sean starts to play match-maker? Well Spike has a hard time saying "no" to getting to know Mad.

Mad can't believe Spike really likes her. But thanks to her meddling friend Sean, Spike has shown up as her brother's home to "help" her deal with her half-brother. She doesn't really get along with him but he's in charge of her trust fund...but not for long. She just has to stand up to him and maybe Spike can help boost her confidence.

This story goes a lot deeper than what I've just said but I don't want to tell any spoilers about the plot because I'd basically be telling you the whole story. Very HOT chemistry between Spike and Mad. Very emotional as well. Spike's background is quite heartbreaking. Both characters show a lot of growth throughout the story. Misunderstandings between Spike and Mad create a lot of drama between them and makes their happily ever after so much more satisfying in the end. I loved this book. Personally, I think it's the best in the series.

MoorehouseLegacy (Anthology)

I couldn’t resist this opportunity to read all these linked stories together. As an introduction to the creator of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, I wanted to get a taste of her voice and her version of the craft.

I enjoyed the outing immensely. Each of the Moorehouse siblings brought loyalty, comradery and good old grit to the battle to maintain their family and their roots. It just took the breathing room of love to find their footing.

Fun reading.

I REALLY enjoyed this set of Books

Knowing that these were some of JR Wards "earlier" writings - I went into each of these stories with an open mind knowing they were going to be written differently then her current work-I thoroughly enjoyed each story and I would recommend them for pretty much anyone that would like some good romance and NOT too riska ...

I'm a Fan

This series held my attention, but didn't captivate like Black Dagger series. J.R. is such an accomplished writer though that she draws you in and keeps you riveted.

Unfortunately, this series didn't quite hit the spot for me as I thought it would. I had high expectations after reading Jessica Bird's "The Billionaire Next Door", which I adored.

While I enjoyed this collection of books, the first and the last are my favorites. There is angst galore in all four stories, which is not always my jam. I did appreciate all the couples and the love they eventually share. Nicely written and the character development is good. I did like to see what was going to happen next. I appreciate JR Ward's writing and while this was not the same as the writing in BDB it was close. Intriguing stories with characters who have a backstory and plenty of capacity for love. Fun reading for me.

Do not be fooled (like me) these are the same stories originally published as:
Beauty and the Black Sheep,
His Comfort and Joy,
From the First and
A Man in a Million.

Why change the titles for goodness sake?
A Man in a Million is ALSO published as The Perfect Distraction. Talk about confusing - three completely different titles for the same book.

worth the read

This series was surprisingly engaging. From the first book, the characters grabbed your attention and held on. Each book unveiled a new secret and story to make you want to keep reading. I feel like I know the people in the books and I want to know more. Highly recommend.

Love these stories! I only read the first three of this series and they were excellent. I wished JR Ward would write more contemporary romance because she excels in them, along with her fantasy line. So highly recommended!

Wanting more

I love the characters and the story lines. JR Ward never disappoints. I want the rest of the characters to have their own stories. I realize this series was finished a while ago but there are some interesting characters left to explore.

Missing material

The first two books are missing, I assume, their epilogues. They just abruptly end. Its evident they miss material, because the next books refer to things that were not told. However, I love the Warden, and have read all of her works. These are nice and easy books.

Moorehouse

Once again ms Ward excels. Or is it Jessica?
Either way. Fabulous read
Fun with just enough dark and heavy to satisfy
A little laughter. A little bitterness. A little stubbornness. And a whole lot of stupid decisions.
Do yourself a favour. Read it
Just don't expect Z or V or But h to pop out (as I did)
