I first read this book many years ago and also saw the movie but I returned for a reread recently when studying about the author for a book club review. I still found the story beautiful. Noah and Allie meet one summer and find each other again many years later. Noah has been to War and returned to his hometown and purchased the house he once showed to Allie. She is just about to be married but feels drawn to find Noah first. Their romance blossoms again and leads to their marriage and a long life together. She becomes the artist of her dreams. Now they are in a retirement home. She has Alzheimer's and is beginning to forget their life together. Noah struggles to get her to remember. This was especially poignant for me as I face a similar situation in my life today as caregiver for my husband of 37 years.
