Okay so before I start on No Pit So Deep: The Cody Musket Story, let's deal with the elephant in the room. Is this a "Christian" book? My answer to that would be no, it is not. Yes, there is an underlying theme of faith that runs through the book and that faith does happen to be Christianity, but in reality, it could be any faith and indeed could have been just a faith in humanity. This story is not about religion, God or church, it is a tale of human nature, the very worst of it and the very best of it. It is, first and foremost a love story and a story about pain, suffering, hope and joy. It is about all the things we, as readers, read for.
Cody Musket is a superstar. He is a decorated veteran who returned from horrific injuries received at the hand of the Taliban in Afghanistan, to become a professional ball player with the Houston Astros. A chance meeting with Brandi, in a movie theater one night will change the direction of Cody's life once and for all. Cody carries the horrors of war and what happened to him in Afghanistan, deep inside his head. Over a period of one week, Brandi comes to know, to understand and to love Cody more than anyone ever has.
No Pit So Deep is a hard-hitting, action romance that pulls no punches. The author describes the action in, at times, graphic detail, so for lovers of tender romances, this may not be the book for you. But if you like your romance punchy and full of excitement, then, No Pit So Deep, is a fantastic read for you. Ignore the fact there is an underlying Christian sentiment to the story and enjoy it for what it is; an expose of good versus evil and the indomitable spirit of man.
I enjoyed this read, maybe more than I thought I would. The author has a style that appeals and the story is laced with good, old-fashioned, hometown humor and the brotherhood and camaraderie of servicemen.
I can really recommend this story as a good, honest read and an enjoyable adventure. Quite looking forward to the sequel, so I can find out what happens to Cody and his new family. A very solid four stars from this reviewer.

No Pit So Deep: The Cody Musket Story Book 1 - is a clean romance read, no sex scenes and very little sexual suggestions. What little there is, is pretty funny, though.
This book has it all; action, excitement, romance, tears, laughter and joy. Heartbreak, inner demons, outer demons, good guys, bad guys, death and LIFE. Right from page 1 I was sucked into the story, racing forward through the pages. The action scenes were fast and thrilling, and intricately detailed. It felt like I was right next to Cody in his plane, could feel what was happening. This author either did an amazing amount of research or just really knows his stuff. I was completely blown away by the depth of every single scene in this book. So much detail, every room or place was carefully constructed right down to the FEEL of the atmosphere.
Now there are a lot of Christian Values and elements that run strongly through this book. I am not personally a Christian but I hold very tightly to my own higher power, and the amazing things that these characters dealt with and survived through are sometimes no less than miraculous. Even with my own beliefs, this book was a great read because of the beliefs of the characters and their high morals and dedication to their personal values.
I could go on, because I enjoyed this book so much, but I will sum it up by saying Wow. Readers, buckle up and hang on!

No Pit So Deep: The Cody Musket Story is a book about faith, love, ghosts of the past, and forgiveness. Inspired by real people and actual events, the fictional tale of Cody Musket is one readers won't be able to put down. Cody is a hero, both in war and in civilian life. He bears demons, horrors from his past, never understanding God's grace until he’s forced to confront the nightmares that torment him. A chance encounter starts him down the path of healing the emotional wounds that threaten to destroy his future. Packed with deep, likable characters, a well-developed plot, and a first-hand view of the terrors of war and the personal struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, No Pit So Deep delivers a clean, thought provoking love story that won't be easily forgotten. There are some pacing issues, which rob it of a 5-star rating. However, I believe the characters and plot save this book. We look forward to the second book in the series and beg the question... why is this book not available in print?

Fast-paced and filled with excitement, Cody Musket No Pit So Deep is a thinking man's action book. Cody Musket is an honorable man. Deeply religious, he served the country in Afghanistan, coming home with a horrific wound that would never quite heal on the inside. Afterwards, he becomes a successful baseball star, but his training in the military and his sense honor never leave him. He rescues a spunky reporter who is courting danger by reporting on a story exposing her to the wrong people. Filled with flashbacks and interesting back stories, these are characters one can care about. Cody and Brandi's chance meeting sets off a journey where they will work together, their respect for each other sprinkling a sweet love story within the often brutal and harsh world they live in. No Pit So Deep is a story about bravery, love, and honor and knowing that no matter where you are faith find you, no matter how deep one's heart is buried.

Modern Day Hero

In the book, No Pit So Deep, James Miller’s first in a series, the author writes about the protagonist, Cody Musket, a man of extreme talents, while some say he is even a Super Hero, or Super Man. After reading this superbly written novel, I believe the reader will agree after finishing the piece, while two-fold, the story is based upon real life, extraordinary events, and is a well-paced reading, provides a definite constant for any viewer to turn to the next page and follow the life of this remarkable hero of the modern-day.

With the incomparable, Brandi, his girl at his side, Cody does it all, with some of the Lord’s help, from flying Air Force Jets to winning professional baseball games, to saving, any woman or damsel in distress, and maybe his woman, while adding some of his Texas drawl and constant licks and tries with a particular humor, only known to the protagonist, and to impress the love he chases in Brandi, who raves from the North and historic family growing in Virginia’s, adding a twist to the story of a Civil War like couple. Staged as a reporter, Brandi also has a daughter, Knoxi, who came from a previous relationship and grows throughout the story from an early age.

For any book lover, a great read for anyone who may want to get rid of ‘any Pit that deepened them’ in this well written and terrific story, the reader may finally digest and take another step in life. And, a good novel for either the baseball lover, believers in the power of the Lord or God, or readers that feed on the action of military conflicts and all its heroes. With more of Mr. Miller’s stories on the amazing Cody Musket, the reader can look forward to a continuation with the wild life and times of this extraordinary man.

This is one of those books where you have to take a breath from it ever-so-often. I couldn't put the book down until I read every heart wrenching word.

The books over the top characters and the seemingly horrible events that surround them in a week's time make the book almost improbable. Yet, even though a work of fiction, the events are somewhat based on truth. That itself has blown me away and again left me breathless.

Intertwined in the story is a tale of children who are trafficked for unspeakable things that no child should ever endure. This is a story of rescuing the children. This is also a story of forgiveness.

A story where God is all forgiving, even for the most awful of things and can turn you for a redemptive life full of love and goodness.

Note: I do caution readers of triggers which include a near rape scene, violence, and murder.

In any case this book is well written and deserves the 4 stars I have given it.

Disclosure: I was given a Kindle copy of this book for review from the author. The review here is 100% my own opinions and may differ from yours. -Michelle

4.8 out of 5 stars

No Pit So Deep by James Nathaniel Miller II (Book One in The Cody Musket Story) is an unputdownable, beautiful masterpiece. It’s a Christian romance story packed with suspense, action and emotion.

What a journey! This book was one of the most emotion-provoking rollercoasters I’ve ever read. Normally, I’m not that much of an emotional reader, but this book had my eyes brimming with tears. The way Cody was presented and how Post Traumatic Stress affected him really hit me hard. I certainly won’t be forgetting about this book anytime soon.

I was amazed by the quality of the writing and how vivid and realistic the scenes were. It was such a compelling and utterly beautiful story. The pages turned themselves.

The way the story unravelled, and the way the characters’ layers were revealed piece by piece at just the right pace was incredible. The entire book was just brilliant.

I must say that the ending slightly dampened things for me – nothing too bad. I just felt like the book kind of dwindled away. It wasn’t as strong of an ending that I was hoping for. Maybe there was a reason for that which will be revealed in the next book. I’m certainly looking forward to reading the next one!

I loved how the vulnerable sides of people were cast in a different light. For example, how Cody and Brandi had scars as insecurities but the journey they went on together meant that they began to accept them.

I have never come across anything quite like it and I doubt I’ll read anything quite like it in the future. It is such a special book.

Thank you James for my copy.

I had planned on reading No Pit So Deep over several nights, but ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting! It was a great, uplifting story that was addicting from the very beginning; every time I took a break I couldn’t stop wondering what would happen next. It is such a treat to read a true page-turner!

The characters were relatable, and their experiences throughout the story felt like they were happening to me. I felt their struggles and rode with them to celebrate their victories. I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading more by James Miller.

No Pit So Deep, 1 follows Cody and Brandi as their story starts. Cody is both a decorate veteran who has come back from the war with serious injuries. He is now a professional sportsman in Houston. One fateful night, he meets Brandi when he saves her from a gang of thugs. This isn't just any gang though, there are deeper roots hidden within a trafficking organisation.

Firstly, as has been pointed out in other reviews, I do want to say this this is not wha ti would consider a Christian book. There are elements of Christianity throughout, including prayer and discussions on faith, but it is not the overwhelming theme of the story. It starts well within the throes of action and grips the reader straight away. There are scenes of action, romance and suspense throughout keeping it a page turning read.

Deep, full of both love and pain. 5 STARS all the way!
This novel touched me in ways that are difficult to explain. The prose is beautiful, the sentiments deep and personal. I found myself highlighting on my Kindle so I could go back and re-read and savor the depth of emotion evoked by this amazing story. This is one of those stories that has you turning pages fast and sighing because you know it's going to be a very long night indeed. It has a definite Christian leaning, maybe too heavy in that way for someone who is not religious. However it is worth reading anyways because it is so special and heartfelt. I LOVED this story and recommend it highly!

This is a romance, but it is also a story of life and all that it involves. Cody Musket is a veteran who was wounded but went on to play baseball and start a family. The story takes readers through flashbacks to war and all the horrors we find there. The author tells an inspirational story that is quite involved as readers learn about not only Cody, but his wife Brandi and their children. It is a touching book that will move readers and maybe help them understand a bit more of what those who have lived through war and its' aftermath deal with.

I want to preface this review with this: I’m not religious. I don’t believe there is a higher power. I’m not atheist, technically I would be classified as Agnostic, with Christian undertones. I could go into that in depth, but that’s not why I’m here. I was asked to read No Pit So Deep by James Nathaniel Miller the second. I agreed and went into it blind as to what the story was about.
This story is amazing. The content is brilliant if a bit farfetched at times. I don’t hate the scene in question, I think it is a lovely expression of love and care. The characters were well written, especially their trauma. Cody is so damaged, yet so kind. He looks down on himself for his past and I think we have all been at a point where that is the case. I couldn’t tell you how much of my life was wasted dwelling on the past.
Brandi is a character you don’t expect to have as much depth as Miller placed within her. Her past was terrible, her present was headed into a terrible spin. She is a character you’re going to like. She has all the positivity that Cody needs at his side, with everything that he is going through. They are the main focus of the story.
A bit of a summary of what the story is about. Cody Musket is an ex-marine pilot who was honorably discharged. He then lands in the MLB, though he’s suffering from major PTSD. Brandi is a journalist whose career is focused on sports, though she also writes articles exposing human trafficking. They meet under dire circumstances, those that Brandi is exposing have had enough of her and decide she’s next. Unfortunately for them, Cody is right there when it happens.
I love watching my son play baseball. That’s about where it ends. This story places the sport front and center. I don’t hate the sport, I just don’t have time for it. I was extremely pulled into the story from the beginning, though I have issues with how the story began, but I’ll get into that in a moment. I wanted to read the story from beginning to end, unfortunately it’s a six book series so I only managed to get from beginning to beginning part deux.
You may ask yourself why I bothered mentioning my religious beliefs at the start. Well the answer is that this book is filled with Christian ideals. Who I am as a reader is the see it through guy. I never thought I would enjoy a book with as much ‘Praise for God’ as No Pit So Deep has. It was probably the most emotional response a book has ever pulled from me.
Near the end I was tearing up left and right. That’s right, this book made me nearly cry, which is a feat in, and of, itself. None of the tears were sad tears either. Every time the response was in regard to the happy things that were happening, the caring gestures the characters performed. By the time I hit the hundredth, or so, page I was excited to keep reading. I finished the book, at that point, in three days. I work for a living so that’s fast for me. Unfortunately, that point took me a month to get to, life is busy, but I’m definitely happy I took the time.
Now comes the harder stuff. While I enjoyed the book, I found there were a lot of stopping points. Mister Miller has the same issue I have while writing. He uses a lot of ‘had’ when describing past events. Every time I read them I read the next word and then had to go back and read it without the ‘had’. So there were some flow stops, more than I would have liked.
The edit wasn’t the best either. I found a lot of language and questionable additions. There were a few errors in spelling, a few errors in word choice as well. Not too much more than other books I’ve read, definitely not more than some of the drafts I’ve written. As such I gave it a bit of a lower score in
that department. Edit and flow don’t deter me unless it’s every other sentence, but it’s still something that catches my eye.
Finally the content. I thought the content was amazing. It’s a story worth reading. My only issue, and not one that affects my score in the slightest, is the time jump. Not to spoil things, once again, but the beginning of the book happens 15 years after the rest of the book. The events that happened in the beginning are still haunting me and making me want to know what happens in the present next. Overall this is a solid four out of five. I’m probably going to pick up the next book, but not for a bit. I need to knock my TBR down just a bit.

Overall Rating: 4.0/5.0
Content Rating: 5.0/5.0
Flow Rating: 3.75/5.0
Edit Rating: 3.5/5.0

‘No Pit So Deep’ is the first book in the Cody Musket series by American-based award winning author, James Nathaniel Miller II. The story is told in the third person and the past tense. The hero of our tale is Cody Musket, an army veteran turned successful professional baseball player. His wife, Brandi, is an investigative journalist who has made some powerful enemies. The action opens with Cody travelling to an event without Brandi. Thereafter, we’re taken back several years to the start of their story.

Drawing the reader in with an impactful opening chapter is a tried and trusted literary technique. In this case, it works well as Cody is a multi-dimensional character and the author has clearly carried out a lot of painstaking research to create a moving and believably harrowing backstory for him. There are quite a lot of peripheral players in this drama to act as foils for the main protagonists.

As this tale will span several books, layers are unwrapped slowly and arguably there is an emphasis on dialogue over description. This book concentrates on the building of the dynamic relationship between Cody and Brandi and the hurdles they need to overcome both emotionally and physically. Brandi has her own demons but is desperate to break down the barriers Cody has erected to try to block out some of the horrors of the theatres of war. Their adversaries will stop at nothing to eliminate them both and there is no shortage of violent confrontations which are skilfully choreographed but the author.

We’re also introduced to some sensitive themes and through flashbacks we begin to understand the emotions Cody experiences on a daily basis. We see fear, horror, disgust, empathy, impotence and above all, a terrible sense of guilt. To counterbalance this darkness, the author give us light in the form of the tenderness and love Cody feels for Brandi and her daughter, Knoxi.

I’m unsure if the books in this series will stand alone and would suggest readers start at the beginning of the saga. If you enjoy meeting Cody and Brandi, there’s no doubt you’ll want to find out what happens next and there’s a tiny bit of foreshadowing to whet the appetite. I was hoping the final chapter would give some resolution to events in the first chapter as this would have provided a tidy ending to this part of the tale. I assume the author plans to revisit that as the story develops.

Straightforward in structure, I found this first poignant instalment of the Cody Musket Story engaging and easy to read. I award four-and-a-half stars.

Cody “Babe” Musket (43, former # 12 Houston Astros 3rd base/DH MLB player, retired USMC 2nd Lieutenant, Medal of Honor, 5th Cavalry medic, PTSD), welcomed home Brandi Musket (39, wife/mother, investigative journalist, Stanford U, WNBA women’s basketball, nee Barnes) from Paris, France.
A shower & romp in the sack was on the agenda.
Rome, Italy. Knoxi Musket (18, daughter/sister), had given her human trafficking presentation.

The parents had established the Planned Childhood Foundation in her honor.
Cody on his way to an awards ceremony for Mike Cannon (former MLB teammate), had been pulled over by Officer Morris Cannon.
BANG! His body lay by Cody’s car.
Felix Anderson (Cody’s neighbor) in his BMW had just pulled up alongside the 1980 blue Ford Mustang.
5 police officers had all fired their guns at Cody.
Brandi got the call.
Raymond “Ray” Musket (11, son/brother) & Cody Musket Jr. (9, son/brother) were not home.
Brandi jumped in the F-570 PU & took off.
Cody had been rushed to the Methodist Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Tina Anderson (KPRC reporter) & Dancer Coleman (KPRC sports reporter, former Houston Astros shortstop) were broadcasting live at the crime scene.

Will Cody recover?
What did Mayor Leonard Beeker have put in the USA Today headline?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. A very well written thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I agreed to review this book in exchange for someone reviewing mine, so I do not want to downgrade the book, but I also want to be honest. I find the story of Cody Musket to be a little unrealistic. This is a guy who fights the Taliban, child traffickers, and white supremacists. He and Brandi get attacked three times over the course of a series of baseball games. I know it’s based on the experiences of real people, but having all these experiences rolled up into one character makes it difficult to take seriously. It isn’t just Cody though. Brandi’s story also comes across as too unbelievable, as does her character. Part of it might be that I don’t typically read either Christian books or romances, so I’m unfamiliar with the tropes of the genre. Perfect characters and romances where people get married within a month of meeting each other may be standard themes of those books, which I don’t engage much in. That being said, I would encourage the author, who can write, to learn to create more realistic characters and situations if he wants to broaden his appeal. One last thing: while the author’s intentions are no doubt honorable and good, some of the descriptions and phonetics from certain minority characters might cause offense to certain audiences. The way that black or Latino characters speak is at times stereotypical, and while stereotypes contain nuggets of truth, that truth needs to be presented carefully. The physical characteristics of the Jewish mayor, Leonard Beekman, is quite stereotypical, and I would encourage the author to edit it in the next edition. I have not rated this book lowly not just because I received a great review for my own work, but also because I accept that I am ill-equipped to judge this book based on my tastes. Someone in an evangelical subculture might enjoy this book quite a bit. I have religious beliefs, but I am not part of that subculture.

I was not familiar with the author until another author shared about this book in her blog and interviewed this author. I thought the story sounded intriguing, so I entered her giveaway and won the e-book version. After reading the book, I must say I was not disappointed and look forward to reading the other books in the series. The story held my interest and drew me into the lives of Cody and Brandi. Both had suffered through some of the worst experiences that no man nor woman should ever face. As Cody expressed it, he had been to hell and back in the mountains of Afghanistan while serving as a U.S. Marine pilot. Brandi had survived the brutal attack of a drug-crazed boyfriend, among other things. Struggling against their own inner demons, they both kept almost everyone at arm’s length. Although neither was seeking a relationship, they were practically thrown together at a theater one evening as Cody witnessed Brandi being accosted by three men wearing ski masks. Without giving thought to personal danger, he somehow knew he could not let them escape with her and immediately went into action. The story is chockfull of action and danger. Woven in between the action scenes, the author includes humor, romance, and faith to balance things out. I particularly enjoyed reading about Brandi’s father’s five principles, which grew to seven and then nine and then fourteen. I lost track of how many there were but the ones shared in the story were all worth giving a second read. I would call them Ray’s words of wisdom. In the first few pages of the book, the author encourages parental guidance. I concur since several events are intensely descriptive as Cody opens up to Brandi about all the things that happened between the time his plane crash-landed in Afghanistan and his rescue.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. My thoughts are my own.

This is a mixture of suspense and romance with a lot of wit and sass mixed into the fibre of the story.
I had to problems within the storyline:
I found the continuous change from point of view distracting. Sometimes it follows each other so quickly that I had to go back and re-read a paragraph to understand who was talking. This made it a slow and frustrating read.

The interaction between Cody and Brandi on the day they met was also very confusing and, though it was meant to be sassy, it didn't work for me and I struggled to connect with the characters. It was a continuous dance between hot and cold personalities. With a mixture of doubt and fear due to their own problems, that made it awkward.

Cody is a veteran that struggles with PTSD after a bad stint in the military. Back in the States, he becomes a famous NBA player with all the bells and whistles. On the day of their meeting, he was at the right place at the right time and intervened when a group wanted to abduct Brandi. A gutsy journalist who is not afraid to tackle the hard stories.

Child-trafficking is the major topic of the story and the reason these men were after her. With no way to protect herself and her daughter, she had to rely on Cody for her security. This lead to several interesting events where Brandi is introduced to his world.

But that is all back story. The actual story, where it began is in the present, when Cody lands in hospital which opens the plotline of faith, romance, dangerous and suspense.
It is a book of healing and trust as two people fight against the very harsh realities of child-trafficking and the sindicates that threatens to bring their world down.

“Cody Musket: Medal of Honor” took me on an intense, emotional journey that was hard to put down. The story kicks off with a harrowing attack on Brandi Barnes, a bold journalist who’s made dangerous enemies by exposing a child trafficking ring. Enter Cody Musket war hero, baseball star, and a man haunted by deep emotional wounds. Their fates collide in a dramatic, almost cinematic rescue scene that sets the tone for a story filled with suspense, romance, and courage.

What stood out most to me was how the author tackled serious themes like PTSD, human trafficking, and the lasting effects of war. Cody’s inner battles felt real and painful, and I appreciated how his character was both strong and vulnerable. Brandi, on the other hand, is fierce and fearless, refusing to back down even when her life is in danger. Their relationship grows with tension and tenderness, and while some of the action is a bit over-the-top, it still feels emotionally grounded.

There were a few moments where the pacing slowed or the dialogue felt slightly forced, which is why I’m giving it four stars instead of five. But overall, the book is inspiring, fast-paced, and emotionally satisfying. If you like thrillers with a meaningful message and characters who fight not just with fists but with heart, this one is definitely worth reading.

James Nathaniel Miller, II – Fiction containing real events, No Pit So Deep, is filled with defining moments. The Codi and Brandi Musket Story is a captivating read, rich in detail, with plenty of twists to keep you turning the pages.

The story is based on an ex-military Lieutenant Cody Musket now playing major league baseball and Brandi a well-known journalist who uncovered and wrote about human trafficking. This highly explosive mix shatters the status-quo taking you into dark places with opponents having criminal intent.

You won’t be riding the bench as the plot deepens into the everyday lives of Cody and Brandi Musket as they struggle to overcome their tragic past while defending themselves in the present. You’ll feel the intense emotional and mental struggles experienced by those suffering from PTSD from their stories.

This story is a must-read for Americans to better understand the mental and physical injuries sustained by those in the USA Armed Forces. A well-written and robust novel about love, recovery, and loss.

I'm a big fan of thrillers but unfortunately this book didn't hit it right for me. But I must agree with some of the other reviewers that the story feels very real and close to heart. The writer has written it in a way that we feel like he himself has personally gone through all the tough trials and tribulations that Cody has. It's a nice story. But to categorize it as a thriller - well, it lacks a lot of what that genre requires. I was also personally skimming through some very intense parts involving the PTSD demons of Cody's past in graphic detail but most other readers I'm sure would not find those as uncomfortable to read as I did. The characters in this story are very likable but there's something missing in this story that makes it an easy read to put down and ignore. There are many quotes related to faith, being born again and finding strength that you will carry with you even after you finish the book. Overall I think this is one of those books that may resonate with a lot of people but not the too critical minority of readers who are conditioned to too many thrillers.

A delightful story, especially considering that much of the story was based on truth. This story shines a lightvon PTSD and the fight many of our soldiers continue to fight once they are home and for many years. It is a serious problem and causes severe problems for
The soldier and for their families. The heroism and humanity of both main characters was refreshing and encouraging. The book was action and love from start to finish. There was so much truth in the dtory it wasn't any surprise that parts of it were based on actual events. Great book. I can't wait to read the next one.

No Pit So Deep by James Nathaniel Miller is a gripping mix of action, suspense, and heartfelt emotion. I really enjoyed how the story balanced high-stakes drama with genuine moments of courage and love. Cody’s struggle with his past and Brandi’s fearless determination as a journalist made them both easy to root for. The plot moves quickly between danger, secrets, and unexpected twists, it kept me turning pages. What stood out most was how the book showed that love and hope can be just as powerful as weapons. A truly inspiring and engaging read.

It is more accurate to call this a love story rather than a romance. However, included within the pages of his work are aspects of our times that are far too distasteful for most of us to dwell on for any length of time. The seamer side of our society is so easy to overlook until it hits us square in the face. The hero, heroine and their friends are great examples of what we should strive to be. The Christian example set in the story is truly inspirational.

Best time, outside of reading the bible, I have In years!

I cried one moment and laughed with the tears still in my eyes. This was truly a God glorifying read! You led us from the shadow of death to the splendor and unconditional love of God 's forgiveness over and over again. I actually began to feel sad when I got close to the end of the book. James, you been given a special gift from our amazing Lord, please continue to serve HIM with your writing!

EXCELLENT

Excellent read ! You're in for unfathomable horrors, trust building relationships, and love. The author takes you on a roller coaster between America's beloved baseball, human trafficking, and Afghanistan. It works.
The hardest part is that it's all too real. Non-profanities a major plus, especially for a book with these subject matters
Thank you James for bringing our very real GOD to your story; without Him nothing makes sense.

This gripping novel blends action, romance, and moral courage into an unforgettable story. Cody Musket, a decorated war hero and professional athlete, is as haunted as he is heroic. His dark past threatens to consume him until fate throws Brandi Barnes into his path. Brandi, a fearless journalist who has exposed a child trafficking ring, is a heroine in her own right, unafraid to put her life on the line for the truth.
