Poignant and Omnipotent, if I had a time machine and could send one thing back to my younger self this would be it.

Here kid read this and chill. You'll be fine,
yours truly future me or you.

This book charts and maintains the growth of the protagonist through the trials and tribulations
of the hazard road that is existence for a young man growing and drifting apart from his peers.
But we
are all not different and separate as we'd like to believe sometimes.

How else could any of us make it through on this rock if we really were separate.

A human can grow without the contact of others, but not all can.
and most are a hybrid.
need the solitary to see the path ahead
and you need another to hold that light
to illuminate the path forward.

Sometimes it takes that kind word of a mother to bring a father and a son back together.

But ultimately forgiveness is in the hands of the two
who have transgressed against each other.

Will Aiden make it?
Who knows but haven't you so far made it.

I received a free copy of this book through a giveaway on Goodreads, and I must admit that I really enjoyed it. Although the book is not very hefty and can be read in about an hour, the characters were easy to relate to and the plot was fairly compelling. The short novel is laid out as a screenplay and had well rounded characters that really changed over the course of the novel. The plot follows 15 year old Aden as he looks for love in his small town while he still has a summer, but his alcoholic father complicates this and makes their relationship even more strained than is first presented. The book plays off of very real and emotional themes, and portrays them in a serious serious way. Overall, I really liked the story, but wish it had a little bit more towards the end of the screenplay.
