This was bad. I did not enjoy the first book in the Maid for Majesty series at all. Sex scenes every so often in a book do not bother me, but in this book they did. I felt the focus was their physical relationship and not the actual story. There were at least 5 different words for "vagina", and sometimes they were all used in the same scene. I HATE descriptions like "...his nectar..." and others trying to spell out moaning and various other sounds. "Aaaaaaaiiieeee" and "uuuhhhhhn" in all caps, or even lowercase, is stupid and irritating. I started skipping chapters because I was so fed up but didn't DNF it because I wanted to know the end of their story. Little did I know that this is a series. Haha Very funny book Gods.... I won't be reading them. Ps. Look out for spelling mistakes. They're everywhere. We could make a worth while drinking game from it.

Okay it's official, my first (and hopefully only) dnf book this year.

I'm sorry I couldn't do it. I read heaps of reviews that said that sex scenes were too much, too frequent. But I thought I'll give it a go anyways.
Bad. Idea.
It is what everyone is saying, too much, too over the place, I sometimes left like I was in repeat!

And then I read other reviews that said it doesn't have an ending, but a cliffhanger! Nope! Not buying anything else from this series!

I'm sorry I tried to the half way point and just couldn't do it anymore. Like what my friend told me, there are plenty of other brilliant books out there, and she's right!

Madeline Black is a slave who was sold to a brothel by her father. Before she was even off the stage, she was bought again by the Watson's. Lady Watson is demanding, unappreciative, and abusive to Madeline and all of her servants.

Madeline was helping with a big party that the King was attending at the Watson's when she made a certain connection with him. Nothing tawdry happened then. It was after she was purchased on his behalf and she came to be in service at Buckingham Palace--in more ways than one.

Alex is king, but he is a likeable kind of guy. He lacks the arrogance and conceit that usually go with his type of character. He's very young at just 24-years old and is in love with Madeline.

The problem? He is a king, royalty, and is expected to marry a princess or another noble, someone of his class. Madeline is a servant and obviously not of that stature. They love each other, they know it, and are powerless to do anything about it.

I loved the story line. I wanted to see how they were going to pull this off. The author was dropping hints of what is to come and unfortunately, decided to drop it into yet another tawdry novel.

Honestly, I should have bought the book that was sex-free. I'm not a prude, but this was packed with lewd, tawdry, ugly sex. I so wish the author would have left out the verbal sound effects. The sex scenes were monotonous, overdone, and offensive. It ruined the entire book for me and I won't be buying anymore of this author's work. I've read some real smut in my life, but this was just too much. Way too much.

I do believe that too much sex or poorly written sex scenes can destroy a story and sadly, this is what happened here.

Aside from that, the book needs to see an editor for a checkup. There are words transposed in sentences, letters left off words (he instead of her), and a few other things that need attention. In the opera scene, Jack was pulling out chairs for the ladies. Jack? Who is Jack? I think it was meant to say "Greg" Yes, it needs to see an editor.

There was a problem with the language, too. This was like reading a story set back in Regency times with the language of today. I don't think any king said "wow" back then. "Sexy"? I don't think so. The author needs to choose an era and stick with it.

I have to give it three stars because I was warned in the blurb that this was an erotic novel. I took a chance and I lost. I knocked off two stars because of the poorly written sex scenes and the lack of editing. The story line was actually quite good and as I said, I would like to know how Alex and Madeline pull this off, but I'm not interested enough to buy the second book.

The story itself was good... But it was lost between the constant repetitive sex! There was no relationship between the two besides sex, yet they are in love.. But I am reading the sequel because I need more of Sophia and Greg!

Review: What goes on between a king and his servant is very naughty in Maid for Majesty!

Jen here reviewing Maid for Majesty: Forbidden Fruit., the very hot and steamy book by AJ Phoenix. I really enjoy historical fiction, but I have not read much historical romance. I had to get past the historical inaccuracies such as language and that there was no King Alexander on the English Throne (It was the George III), but once I did I really enjoyed the story of King Alex and Madeline Black. There is plenty of mystery that is intriguing as you peel away Madeline's story about her sale into servitude by her actor father and unknown aspects of her noble mother (who has long been gone).

King Alex and Madeline breakdown cultural and sexual barriers that are considered obscene during this period of time (yes, Alex and Madeline really get into IT). Their enjoyment of each other is never truly hindered despite not being able to overcome the social status that divides them. The author does a wonderful job of painting the picture of the period, the parties, the residences, and the class differences. I also very much enjoyed the sub-characters Princess Sofia, Greg, Tilly, and Marie. The canvas on which the story is painted is rich, but not overwhelming. There is also plenty of details into the love life of Alex and Madeline. For the erotic reader, this book is very satisfying. This is definitely a panty melting read. Despite being fairly long, this book does have a cliffhanger. I am looking forward the reading the next two books in the series!

You are a amazing writer

God surly has bless you and you have found your calling. I just wish the series was completely finished. Believe me this is my first book you a wonderful creation a name anyone who read your book will never be forgotten. So please don't keep me in suspense to long. Until we meet again. Much success in the future. D.H from New York City P.s. to those who are reading this review it doesn't leave you on a cliffhanger it that you never want it to end. But beware it will keep you up all night so make sure you have no plans before reading this book.

The sex scenes became repetitive and boring about mid way though the book. The story could have been a lot shorter or spent more time on the non sex related aspects of their relationship.

Madeline's expectations where really out of line with the time period and I often got annoyed with that. Also Kings kocking boots (I know I'm dating myself) with the maid doesn't seem like it would be as big of a deal as portrayed. Marrying said maid would have caused a scandal.

VERY GOOD HISTORICAL ROMANCE

Oh, to be the KING. A most unusual storyline to involve a Royal. We loved the interactions between Alex and Madeleine, and the sex sciences are so hot and definitely on the naughty side. Even though we loved the book, we are disappointed that it is not a stand alone. Thank you Danny and Debbie Scott.

I can't believe I didn't write a review!! My review's are short.
Miss. Madeleine Black is sold by her father as a slave and luckily for her, she is bought by Lady Watson. Lady Watson wants to impress everyone, so has a party and invites the very handsome King Alex!!! He is instantly attracted to Madeleine. She is very beautiful and stands out.
Lord Watson is a perverted man and tries to rape Madeleine, Lady Watson get's upset at Madeleine and sells her at the slave market where she is bought by one of King Alex's men.
They see each other, King Alex and Madeleine and fall in love!!!!!
This is a beautiful, erotic love story. Madeleine has a secret she tries to hide from everyone.
Napoleon declares war against Spain, and the King and Queen of Spain, as well as their daughter are invited to stay with the King until Napoleon is defeated. Madeleine becomes jealous of the Princess and runs away! I loved this story, But, you have to read the Series, I'm on Book 2 and loving it.

Disappointed!

This was too long so, I skipped to the end, hoping that it would be finished, only to find that after 37 chapters, the story still isn't finished, REALLY. Totally not happy and not interested in reading the others.

Cliffhannger

I grew weary of all the sex and the story dragging on and on waiting for her true identity to be known and a HEA. I was astonished to find a cliffhanger. What?? After forcing myself through the endless sex scenes the story has no resolution? Good grief, a cliffhanger. Don't waste your time.

Lately I don't write reviews but this book, omg! I feel like nothing happened at least nothing interesting, this book was more about the main characters' sex life than anything else, every chapter most of the chapter was about them having sex, nothing about the war, the country and its alliances just a few tiny details here and there, the only reason I didn't put it down is because I can't start a book and not finish it and foolishly I kept hoping we were getting somewhere but noooooo and the worst thing is there's a sequel, a sequel that thank God I won't be reading

I've read all three of this series and am forced to agree that:

a) much more editing was required for spelling and (Regency) period consistency.
b) while I enjoy some smutty scenes in a book, I felt that the whole series had too much sex. It's extra disappointing, because the storyline had so much potential!

I hope that future writing takes this into account!

I will right off there is a cliffhanger so if that does not appeal to you then I don’t recommend reading this book but if it does not bother you then I highly recommend reading this book as it was a really sexy fun read. Love the historical romance and the world you are taken into.

Great read for mature readers

A king and a servant girl ..or is she. What is her story and what causes his nightmares that are his secret only. The beginnings of the discovery of these answers lie in this steamy sexy book.

597 pages and it ended on a CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took a star away for that. Second star was for poor editing. Some of the sentences I had to read again and figure out for myself what the author might have been thinking.

I should take a star away for too much sex, but it did say "erotic" in the description. Seriously, if this were an actual paperback I would have flipped ahead past some of the sex scenes, they were really starting to get boring by the end. Oh, excuse me, the CLIFFHANGER.

The story line was exciting, but again I would have wanted to skip ahead, wondering when the lovers were going to be discovered or when someone would realize who Madeline really was.

If you're looking for a historical book that's accurate and true to every little detail, this book isn't for you. If you can endure yourself saying, "I don't believe that's correct for that period in time", you'll be fine.

I really did love this book. Until I got to the last page. The ever present CLIFFHANGER. That pissed me off.

The lengths I have gone to find this book. I wish I was joking when I say I’ve spent years looking for it having read this on Wattpad I want to say 2014/15 I was so happy and crushed when I it wasn’t removed to be published! Now years later being able to afford a KU membership the nostalgia I felt re-reading. I fell in love with the book again I’m so glad I found this and I would highly recommend this to anyone to read. The writing is amazing the plot, attention to detail I remember being so impressed with the parts of the book that were so minor but the detail mattered and it was accurate and the spice don’t even get me started on the chemistry between Madeline and Alex the butterflies I got first reading smacked me in the face as soon as I started reading Alex was just as swoon worthy and scream into my pillow as I remember!!

I actually had to take a few days off from reading this because there were just TOO MANY sex scenes. At first it was ok, but by 75% of the book your just in sensory overload with all the sex! I mean something is going to fall off from misuse. That's why I gave it 3 stars, if there had been a few less sex scenes I would have given this 5 STARS! This was very interesting and there were absolutely ZERO spelling errors and that's something that's hard to come by nowadays in the cheap kindle books category. I'm starting to realize just how much I love Regency fiction. This was the first romance I've read in probably 10 years and it was really good.. well except the amount of sex. There is a version of this book without the sex scenes if you want to give this a try.

I'm not giving it a rating because I barely cracked fifty pages in before shutting it -- It's a BDSM Historical with a lot of non-consensual corporal punishment. If you're into that, then you may like it more than I did....

I probably should have thought the fact that a historical with kink called "Maid For Majesty" would have a very unequal power dynamic -- but other books I've read in this vein manage to make it work by having both Dom and subbe from a similar socioeconomic strata (given the vastly unequal historical power between a Man and a Woman, of course!). The publicity, though, sells it as a kinky romp, or so I thought. Guess I should've read the tin more closely, eh?

I got it for free on Bookbub, so all I lost was a couple MB on my iPhone.

Anyone remember the running bit on the Suite Life on Deck where Ms. Tutweiller would fantasize about and read those really cheesy, cringey historical romance novels? This reminded me of that. I should have DNF’d this book after barely getting through the poor writing on page 1 (fr whatever happened to “said is dead?” Show me, don’t tell me please). Pretty much got through it just to stay on track with my reading goal. It was awful though. Way too many spicy scenes with way too many descriptors and noises actually spelled out. Skim read through most of it, and didn’t realize it was a series till the end. 0/10 recommend; will not be continuing the series.

a flop

The writing is so bad… the sex scenes to obscene… the language and plot have no historical accuracy. The plot could have been better, but the sex scenes were over the top and not even realistic. One of the worst books I have read. Didn’t even finished reading, because half way through I just started flipping pages, and skipping sex scenes because it was so redundant and monotonous. The characters lacked substance, and there was no climax to the story line. Save your time and energy, find a better book to read.

absolutely would have benefited from another pass from an editor. there were several grammar and spelling mistakes, even a double negative at one point. and the language itself was definitely way more modern than I expected. the plot was decent and the characters were fine, although a bit dumb. the 'slavery' aspect was kind of weird and unnecessary, so for me this story could have been set in more modern times and possibly made more sense.

I am a little surprised to see an almost 500 page book end in a cliff-hanger. I liked the character of Madeline, but it took me a little longer to get Alex. The sex didn't reach the level of sensual or erotic for me. After awhile, it felt like someone just going through the motions. I am interested to know how the story ends, but it looks like there will be two more books before that happens.

I started to read this book when it was published in wattpad and I got addicted to it. It was actually unrealistic for a king to fall head over heels in love with a girl like Madeline but its a story and anything can happen anytime. There are 2 things which I like in this book. 1) The details about the locations and the descriptions of each situation 2) Of course the steamy relationships of both Alex & Greg. It is totally enjoyable for people who like historical romance.
