Specifically aimed at 10-13 year old reluctant readers, but inclusive of all children, So Wrong is a hyperactive grab-bag of wit, warmth and wildness that includes:
- short stories (like The Nappy and The Veree Hungree Caterpooper)
- satirical advertisements (for products such as The Parental Attitude Adjuster and a very private private school)
- suspect ‘life advice’ (from a supposed Life Coach for Kids, Mitey Mikey)
- visual treats galore
- and laughs on every page.
As two former reluctant readers themselves, Michael and Wayne have created the book (and series) they wish had existed when they were kids.
It’s Mad magazine meets Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton with fresh twists and surprises throughout – so right for young readers, especially those who haven’t quite learned to love books. Yet.
Michael Wagner is the author of more than 90 books for children which include the much loved Maxx Rumble series (20 books), six books about a delightfully silly and warm-hearted family called The Undys, the CBCA Honour Picture Book of the Year, Dirt by Sea, Why I Love Footy, Why I Love Summer, Bear Make Den (co-written with his partner, Jane Godwin) and many more. He's also self-published a handful of titles including: Pig Dude, Family Hugs and the So Wrong series.
Prior to becoming a children’s author, Michael worked for ten years as radio broadcaster with the ABC, wrote and produced award-winning animation, penned everything from advertising copy to songs and comedy, and grew up in a Housing Commission flat.
Shifted but finally funny and original The illustrations are simple and childish, but it works with children. Added to this is the tone of the presenter. The choice to organize this book as a TV program, interspersed with advertising, with a child life coach seemed odd at first, but in fact under the guise of simple story is really hiding life lessons, including morality is to be discovered by children. It's true that at first, it's not obvious. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
So Wrong: The uncensored advice of Mitey Mikey, spliced with a whole lotta fun adventures of other kids. I have to say, I wished I had someone like Mitey Mikey as a life coach when I was a kid. It would have made for one incredibly interesting childhood. His unique way of viewing the world, is about as spot on for a 9 year old boy as it gets. Plus, he says and spells everything phonetically. Which actually, if you've read anything from your kids lately, they are pretty much champions at phonetics, so I say, why not harness that. Reading Mitey Mikey's words actually made me really concentrate on what he was saying, and it gave an awesome authenticity to his voice. My Absolute favourite is the PAA. Parental Attitude Adjuster. What more could a kid really want.
But wait, there is more, and I am telling you now, the kids are going to love Soccer Head. I can't give the game away, but there is a hearty serving of just desserts for a certain grumpy gumps named Jaxson.
Now the one that had me laughing out loud was Mikey's version of a certain incredibly famous book, which will forever now be known as the Very Hungry Caterpooper. So much gold in one book, and even some mindfoolness colouring at the end.
That's it folks, the verdict is in, this one is sure to please even the most reluctant readers from ages 5 to one hundred.
Like the author and his books. I am not sure where he was going with this or the age he was trying to pinpoint. The first toy was funny, the second one I’m not sure about. Again I’m not sure about what the age group that he was shooting for middle school, junior high/high school ages might be better. I will not let Younger kids read the second story but the first story is great for them. The commercials for the adults were kind of funny, but then again as I said before I like his other books.

This is one of the funniest books for kids I have read in a long time. It changes the format, making it like a TV show in a book. This is perfect for reluctant readers, and just readers who love a laugh. Can't wait for the sequel!

A very awesome book cover, great hand-drawn black & white pictures & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s (MS age at best) adventure storybook. It wasn’t very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. I’m not sure I understood hardly anything of this book. That said I will only rate it at 2/5 stars.

The potty humor is what boys like. It is not written for adult moms like me but I am writing this review honestly for those who are looking for books for young boys. Hey, my boys are 17, 21, and 53 years old. They all thought it was hilarious! If you have boys, this is an awesome book for young kids. Even young girls, for the most part, find this hilarious. Awesome book since boys can most often be reluctant readers.
