Nathan K -- he can hold two souls in his body. If he dies, he loses one yet lives on with the other. As long as he replenishes his second soul, he cannot be killed. Nathan K is immortal.
CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO WORLDS
When a brilliant hacker calling herself Robin Hood steals proof of a corrupt Senator and hides it away, those who will be exposed go on the warpath after her. Nathan K is her only hope to survive the relentless attacks and escape death.
But helping one mortal woman is not Nathan’s only problem. Roy, a rogue immortal, is determined to change Nathan’s view about helping others. He wants Nathan at his side forever, and that means giving up on the mortal world.
Trying to maintain his freedom from the immortal world while saving a life in the mortal world may prove to be more than Nathan can handle. And it may cost him more than his soul.
Stuart Jaffe is the madman behind the Nathan K thrillers, Max Porter paranormal-mystery series, The Malja Chronicles, The Bluesman series, and much more. He has written numerous short stories in Fantasy, SF, and Horror. He was also the co-host of The Eclectic Review (http://eclectic.libsyn.com) -- a podcast about science, art, and well, everything.
Stuart lives in rural North Carolina, and for those who keep count, the latest animal listing is as follows: one dog, two cats, one albino corn snake, three aquatic turtles, assorted fish, seven chickens, and a horse. Thankfully, the chickens and the horse do not live inside the house.
Killing Machine (Nathan K Book 2) by Stuart Jaffe is book two in this fabulous fantasy series but can be read as a stand alone. Nathan ends up saving the live of a hacker that has hacked into a corrupt senator's computer and accounts. Now her life is on the line and so is his for sticking up for her. There is an immortal, like Nathan, after them too. Nathan maybe a lot stronger and faster than a regular human but not another immortal and he gets beat up frequently! He is not the best of fighters, but he gets enough licks in to survive. Fortunately, immortals hold 2 souls so if he dies, he releases one soul, repairs himself, and lives. He can't afford to lose both souls so he has to capture another soul to replace the lost soul soon. Nathan and Robin's goal is to get the file online before getting killed, then stay alive for awhile til things calm down. That is the plan anyway... Lots of action, adventure, twists, turns, and suspense. Great fantasy along the way!
"Killing Machine" by Stuart Jaffe is book two in the "Nathan K" series. Nathan K meets "Robin Hood" and is helping her with a drive that she is currently hiding that holds some important things on a Senator. Robin is a hacker and doesn't give Nathan her real name. I really like this series and watching Nathan adjust to his new way of living. If you want a book that keeps your attention, then give this one a try. I'm happy that I started this series and look forward to continuing in it.
Book 2 in the Nathan K. series was a good read. Nathan is adapting to his immortality and meets another normal person to aid while dealing with yet another older immortal who, in this story wants to team up with Nathan. That doesn't exactly match Nathan's plans and that leads to the rest of the story. I tasted this book one star less than the first one because I can see that if book three isn't a bit more interesting, this could get to be too much of a formula driven series to stay interesting.
Non-stop action! Immortals! Computer hackers! Everything I love in a story. And I'm only starting with the series. This is an excellent story and a worthy follow up to the previous book.
Nathan K continues his solitary existence, helping those in need. At his last stop he is besieged by woman named Robin who claims she's been following his exploits on the internet and desperately needs his help. Nathan is surprised to learn about his presence on the internet and isn't sure he wants to help her. Very quickly, events take the decision out of his hands and he's on the run with Robin, trying to bring down a senator trying to kill her. And, not only are Robin's enemies after the both of them, another immortal, Roy, is after Nathan, wanting him to join him in being a mercenary, doing whatever needs doing for money. Both Roy and his bosses and Robin's enemies are soon on their trail and Nathan and Robin try everything they can to keep alive and out of the wrong hands. Will the immortals finally get Nathan or will he make it out alive one more time?
I have really come to settle in and enjoy Nathan K's exploits. He's flawed, but an overall good guy, not sure what to do with his immortality. What he is sure about is that he wants to help people because he cares for them unlike most of the immortals he's come to know. Besides having an interesting protagonist, this book is as well-written as all the books I've read by Mr. Jaffe are, and the book is full of non-stop action and fun. Mr. Jaffe has a very interesting and engrossing way of writing that makes it very hard to put down his books. The ending was a nice surprise as well and I was glad to see it happen. I can't say too much because I don't want to give away anything, but I think it was something Nathan needed in his exploits. Join me in the fun and get this book. And, while you're at it, grab the first one, too. You won't regret it. Highly recommend!
Thanks to the author for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review. This exact review will be posted on both Amazon and Goodreads.
This is my first Nathan K book, but it probably won't be my last. The premise of the story is an immortal with two souls. If he is killed he regenerates and repairs, but now he needs a new second soul to keep from being just another mortal. Nathan is new at this immortal gig and tries to use his talents to help non-immortals. Nathan is disturbed at breakfast by a woman who has tracked him down using her hacking/computer skills. She is in trouble and wants Nathan to help her out. Although Nathan is not sure he wants to get involved, he is forced into it when armed men show up looking for the woman. This starts an adventure that forces him to replace his second soul several times and puts him in conflict with another immortal. The story is fast paced and Nathan adds some things to his "I really need to learn to do that" list (one of which is getting better at hot-wiring cars). Nathan struggles to learn how exactly he wants his immortality to look. He can continue to help others that need his help with no thoughts of reward, or he can become hardened to the problems of mere humans and only think of how to amass a fortune to support a extravagant life-style by working for the highest bidder.
I was delighted with the unique story idea in Immortal Killers, so when I was asked to be an advanced reviewer for the second book in the series, Killing Machine, I did not hesitate. I was not disappointed. Killing Machine continued the story of the Immortals and Nathan K's struggles to meld his reality with his desire for morality. The characters continued to develop and this was another "can't put it down" story from Stuart. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair review. I believe in supporting authors I like, so I also bought a copy of the book.
A Must Read! I loved the first book and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. And I'm glad to say, It did not disappoint. I loved every line! From the very beginning the action starts and doesn't let up until the end. Nathan is a great character and I hope to see many more books in the future. I would highly recommend this book.
