The Good Listener

Rate this book
If a person talks long enough, they just may tell you their darkest secrets. All you have to do is listen.

Hannah Lewis thought that she could save the world, one patient and therapy session at a time. She was the best psychologist in town and she had never had a single patient that she just couldn't fix. But was she too good at her job for her own good?

When a new patient, the successful and seductive, Mr. Blake Griffin, walks into her office, with a problem unlike any other and a few terrible secrets, Hannah discovers that for the first time, ever, she doesn’t have all of the answers. But determined to get him back on the right track, Hannah becomes completely invested in Mr. Griffin's past, present, and uncertain future. But with a few secrets and problems of her own, suddenly Hannah's life spirals out of control and with everything on the line, she finds herself on the other side of the fence and forced to make a deal with the Devil himself; her handsome, psychotic, and knowingly wicked patient, Mr. Griffin.

But wherever there is smoke, there is always a fire; but when the smoke clears, who will be the rabbit holding the smoking gun?

A page-turning, nail-biting, psychological thriller full of lies, betrayal and suspense, will Hannah be able to save her patient and herself? Or was she doomed to fail from the very beginning?

4.5 "The-Good/Bad-Listener" Stars

I’m not really a talkative person, I just like to listen to my family or my friends and I always thought I’m good at it but this book convinced me that I’m a terrible one! I didn’t pay attention to the most important things in this story!

Hannah is a very successful psychologist. The one that people and papers named her "The Good Listener"! She is great in her job but in her own life; not much. Especially for the last year that her husband lost his job. and it’s not their only problem. She works too much, like consumed with her work. She put her job over her husband and somehow neglected her wifely duties. So you can imagine how their life is!

Blake is a successful man but he has a dark desire. So he goes to Hannah for help because she is the best at this job and listening. He wants Hannah not let him doing a terrible thing but he can’t say why/who or maybe he said but she didn’t listen good!

So is she a good listener? Can she stop him? Can she change him? What about her own life? What could she do about her life and her husband? Who can she trust? Can she save Blake?

"Don’t ever forget what I thought you. People and papers lie. No one van ever truly be trusted."

None of the characters are likable, yes they were well-written and well-defined but I mean their personal characteristics. But I liked Blake sooo much and I should say And the ending! Loved the way it ended!

The story-line is perfect and well-paced. It was really a page turner. It was full of suspense, lies, betrayal, murders… It was my first read by this author and definitely won’t be last. The story is told in Hannah’s POV, 1st person. It’s a stand-alone novel. I loved it, hope you enjoy this as well! Just listen to him!

“Why are you here?”
“Because I’m going to kill someone.”
“And what do you want me to do?”
“Stop me.”

Can you read between the line? Can you guess by just the information above, where this book is heading? Can you see the twist? If the answer is yes to all, and you can even guess who that someone is, then congratulation.

None of the characters have any redeeming quality. The sentences were choppy. There's no character development. No mention who was speaking the line. The book is a bad cliche, badly written with boring characters. I like the cover though.

This book will have you trippin. It truly lived up to it’s genre of being a psychological thriller. I read this book last week, and I am still mad over the back and forth conversations between Hannah and Blake lol. I also loved that in this story, both the main protagonist and antagonist had a little crazy to them. I was going through the book like, “Yeah, he crazy.” But then about halfway through, I was like, “Wait, she crazy too!” Lol, this was an enjoyable read overall, and you have most definitely gained a new fan.

"The Good Listener" by B.M. Hardin

My Thoughts....

All I will say is this was one suspenseful psychological thriller read that did keep me guessing till the end because there are so many twist and turns that this author gives the reader. The characters from Hannah, Joel, Blake and Summer only to name a few will keep the readers attention and in the end the reader will get quite a well written read. What will happen when Blake finds out that Hannah is a 'Good Listener' but was she really? In the end will that psychopath get his kill that he truly had longed for? Well, if you like a story 'full of unpredictable suspense, lies, betrayal and intriguing murders' you will get one good read. That ending really left me saying what the in the world and wow this author really knows how to keep on giving the reader some good interesting reads.

I flew thru this book!

I flew thru these 589 pages, it was that good. I was so engrossed in this storyline, wondering where it was going and what was going to happen next. The ending tho! Was not expecting that! Good Listener was the perfect title, he told you everything you needed to know, you just had to listen. I loved the way this book was set up, it definitely kept my attention.

PREDICTABLE!! Psychological thriller?? Yeah, right! This book is a headache. What in the world is this author doing? She only gets credit for having an interesting concept, but the intrigue stops there. This book was unnecessarily long, drawn out, boring, and just all-together bad; not to mention cliché. Not only that, but the author also forsook all of the fundamental rules of writing a book. The punctuation was horrible and pretty much non-existent. There was absolutely no character development and no description of them in regards to their appearance, demeanor and mannerisms. The author relied heavily on dialogue, but most of it was redundant, confusing, and incomplete. The author didn't even use character tags so that we would know who was saying what!! I'm pretty sure that has to be "Book-Writing 101". And there was so much improper word usage throughout the book that I was tempted to put this book down plenty of times. As far as the ending, like I said, it was predictable. No surprises here, people.

People and Papers Lie...

The Good Listener was a great thrilling read by BM Hardin. Blake was all kinds of crazy, but I found myself rooting for him in some parts of the story. Hannah frustrated me at times especially when trying to balance her personal life and work. The ending was crazy because I definitely wasn't expecting that. Great story, some minor typos but I would definitely recommend this book.

The Good Listener

This book have me screaming, shouting, biting my nails and shouting for Jesus. B. M. Hardin I can never get bored reading your books, your story lines is like watching a movie. Blake have Hannah the good listener soft, he knows every little detail about her families and friends. Blake led his counselor Hannah on, he even poison her husband. This book taught me that not all friends are real, Summer Hannah Receptionist was sleeping with her husband, working with serial killer Blake. Try to set up Hannah with murder. So sorry Hannah,s husband Joel kill himself. Serial killer Blake is Hannah's half brother. Can't give no more details, please read this book .. Love it

Hannah believes she is the best when it come to helping people with their problems. Listening is her forte. When it's all said done there hasn't been a person she couldn't help.

When her new patient Blake comes in requesting help.Hannah is positive that she can help him but when she learns of his story and why he need help she starts to get mixed feelings.Little do Hannah know her life is never will be the same and maybe she need to start helping herself.

The Good listener is an interesting story.I like how the characters tie together.I felt towards the end of the story that it was rushed and incomplete.

It was a good book, but I think it dragged just a little too much for me. I feel as though it was a little too repetitive for me. Well maybe it was repetitive because we needed to pick up on the clues. In the back of my head I figured "Blake" wanted to kill her. He was seeking her out too much for him not to.

Honestly, I was not a fan of Hannah. The she treated her husband was annoying, but they both caused issues in the marriage. It just seem like Hannah was not willing to admit her fault through it all.

Through it all it was a good book definitely was not expecting the ending!

You really a good listener

This book has so many twist and turns you can't predict what is going to happened next. Hannah's life had been turned upside down with a
psycho patient, backstabbing friend, cheating husband and now being accused of murder. You will have to read the book to find what happened next and how the story end. I will say I was rooting for Hannah and Joel to work things out.

Wow I really enjoyed reading this book! The things that came out were too much! I felt all along that Hannah was in danger but I didn't want to believe what came to be true! Blake was a crazy mixed up soul! I felt so bad for the things that happened in her marriage, poor Joel! There were grammatical errors throughout this novel but the plot was excellent and it was a great read! BM Hardin always gives you a great story. Until next time!!!!

Good Story!

This book didn't grab my attention as other books by this author have. Fortunately, that didn't last long. As usual, it was well written with twists and turns that had me wondering what would happen next. I am truly a fan of B.M. Hardin, and I'm quite happy to say that I wasn't disappointed.

Listen Well

This book had me going in circles. Though I figured out some of the mystery before the book character, I had no idea of the magnitude of drama and suspense. I was angry with Hannah, I cried with her. Though she was very selfish, she had a heart and turned out to be very lovable.

Wow. Whoa. Yikes 😳

This say this book had my head gone, was an understatement. Blake wanted Hannah to “listen” soooo bad, that it had me “listening” 😂 or thinking outside the box I should say. I’m the end though, I still wouldn’t of guessed half of that stuff happening.

That was good. Amazing actually. Now when’s the movie coming out?!

I wasn't ready (Kevin Hart voice)

First of all, BM Hardin never disappoints. But this book right here was so suspenseful. It definitely kept me on my toes lol. The main character Hannah was so self absorbed and a workaholic but she was unfortunately like some people. This book should definitely be a movie!!!!

Pure Craziness!

Hannah thought she had the perfect life until she met Blake. All of the characters were a bit psychotic in their own right. Setting people up just to get close to them & ruin their lives. This story was a bit long & drawn out but nevertheless a interesting one.

"Good Listener"

Great job! This was a great read that had me evaluating myself and relationships. We tend to think so highly of ourselves that we miss the simplest things. Like Blake said: "People and papers lie".
