Bright lights pierce the pitch black road, and the sounds of screeching tires and crunching metal echo in my ears. I’m in a car with everyone that I love—my best friends; my boyfriend; and Jake, who has been like a brother to me since we were five, though I’ve always secretly loved him. But none of that registers. How much I could lose doesn’t even cross my mind. Instead, time slows, stops even, and everything is a blur...

Dani Conner’s life is nearly perfect. It’s her senior year, and it’s not an understatement to say her tight-knit group of friends rule the school and the basketball court, including her incredible boyfriend Marcus. But she is in love with Jake, her boyfriend’s best friend and her best friend’s boyfriend. Luckily, her feelings for him are safely buried where they belong … until they aren’t, and in an instant, an accident changes everything.

For Ages 16 and up.

Everything can change in an instant. One minute you can be laughing and having the time of your life with your best friends and the next minute the car you're in can be upside down, the person next to you missing and the driver saying your boyfriend isn't doing good. You could sit there in the back seat of the car, telling your best friend to live a little, that everything will be fine and the next she could be unconscious, not understanding that her boyfriend didn't get out of the car to help you guys, he was thrown through the windshield because he was the lucky one to be in the middle. One minute the feelings you have for someone that is not your boyfriend could be a secret, the relationship you're having with him hidden, the next your entire group of friends know. One minute you can be celebrating a distract championship win with your friends, the next second, one could be dead another in critical condition and you don't know who makes it and who doesn't. Maybe even you won't make it.

That's what life is like for Daniella and her group of friends. They're called the elite group, the popular crowd. Nice to everyone but they don't let anyone else in. Dani's life changed in an instant, the blink of an eye, everything seems to be perfect and then she hears the sound of crunching metal and wakes up with blood dripping down her head and the car is upside down.

I can't imagine what it's like to have everything in my life change like that. I could not imagine what it would be like to lose one of my best friends, all because of some stupid race down a road no one ever uses. Why was someone actually going down that road on that specific night? Why didn't anyone see them in time? Why did someone have to die?

Through the entire book I was asking myself these questions, trying to figure out how I would feel if this had happened to me in high school or at any time in my life and I don't know how I would ever react. Just the thought of my life changing in such a quick second, in an instant like Dani's scares me, I'll admit it. I don't think anyone wants their life to change so fast in such a bad way.

I started this book at 11 in the morning July 4th and I finished it by 9 that night, that is how good this book is. Different from Adrienne's other books, but not by much. If you have read her others you will definitely love this one and if you haven't you should give all of them a chance.

Get your tissues ready!

Adrienne's books always have me feeling nostalgic for the high school days. This book, however, is not like her original series. This book is about one tragic event and the events leading up to and following it. I was a choked up mess reading this book, and I loved it!

This was an excellent read that I couldn't put down. Time slipped away and before i realized it a few hours had passed and I was finished. The perspectives from the past and the present were a really nice touch and they melded together seamlessly. I was excited when I saw the author was releasing another book and it definitely didn't disappoint.

Holy smokes! This was not only a tear-jerker but a page-turner. The characters and story just suck you in. I also loved how the story goes back and forth from the past to the present until it all lines up.
