The seventh, and final, book in 'The Captive' series brings everything full-circle. I've loved this series from the moment I read 'Captured', which is offered as a freebie. The love story of Braith and Aria is still one of my favorites.
If you're like me, you probably missed the strong focus on Braith and Aria in the last few books that came before this one. While I enjoyed the stories of each character, for me this series was always all about Braith and Aria. So, having them take a back seat in the last few books didn't work as well for me.
'Unbound' places one of my all-time favorite couples back in the spotlight again. I couldn't be happier! It seems fitting to remind readers of where this series started, while tying up the loose ends.
As I've come to expect with this series, there was plenty of action and suspense. Their claim to the throne has been challenged by a vampire that personifies everything that the humans fear. Braith and Aria are in for the fight of their lives.
Of course, all of the supporting characters you've grown to love over the course of this series are visibly present as well. Each of them will play a role in this epic battle. Not everyone will make it out unscathed though.
In the end, I was left feeling completely satiated. Truthfully, I was glad to see this series come to a close. I've loved every minute, but it was time to hang it up. I'm glad that it ended on a high note, and didn't go on for an excessive period of time, ruining a great thing. This was the perfect finale for one of my favorite series.
There were tears of sadness, tears for unknown revelations, tears of loss and tears of happiness....the final book in this series could not have been written more beautifully.
I won’t delve much into the story due to so many shocks and revelations it is hard not reveal too much.
I will take the time to acknowledge the stellar storyline the author created. This started in a world of fear, rebels, blood slaves, aristocracy, and a king who lead by fear and power. Characters experienced captivity, slavery, survival, wars, love and loss. Braith and Aria were insanely wonderfully written. Secondary characters held my attention and I found myself as deeply rooted in their storylines as the MC and FMC.
Truly hate this series is completed but this is one series for me that ended perfectly leaving me with no regret for falling in love with it.
The Captured series truly did just that -- captivated my heart. Years ago, Erica Stevens was one of the first indie authors I stumbled across with my newly acquired iPad, and I never looked back. I can’t begin to tell you the number of times I’ve gone through this series both reading and listening to the available audiobooks. Aria and Braith, along with their friends and family, feel like good friends. Friends you want to see triumph and find peace and happiness.
UNBOUND is truly the perfect conclusion. I experienced so many emotions while reading this book. Joy, fear, suspense … sorrow, hope, satisfaction, happiness … I could go on. VENGEANCE introduced us to an enemy no one believed existed with power that rivals even Braith’s. The ending to book 7 left us exactly where we needed to be for UNBOUND to take place. The tension is high, emotions are near the surface, and vampires and humans alike are poised to defend who and what they love no matter the sacrifice. My heart starts racing even thinking back over the story I just read. I had a true book hangover after finishing, and I can’t wait to read this book again!
UNBOUND isn’t just the conclusion of Braith and Aria’s story, but the culmination of a world fighting for peace and equality despite differences. From Braith and Aria’s discovery of their bloodlink to the epic conclusion in UNBOUND, I’ve experienced a range of emotions and lived many lives through the amazing characters. I trusted Erica to take us on a journey, and she truly did. Eight books was the perfect number to introduce a group of characters that would forever be part of my book family. I can return to their stories time and again, and return I will. Thank you, Erica, for stepping out with that first book and making us fall in love with a fiery, auburn-haired girl that would take down a regime -- beginning with being Captured.
I'm so glad that I came back to this series and read the last three books. It was great to reconnect with all of these beloved characters. This book was the perfect ending to everyone's stories.
Wow, what an ending! After what I thought was the ending at book #4, Erica Stevens continued this series on with three more books, and though it’s taken me a while to get to them, I loved getting the opportunity to dive back into this series that I love so much, and this book has finished it on a really high note. With action, adventure, heartbreak and romance, this book brought all the feels and I finished it with a huge smile on my face.
Without giving away spoilers, this book picks up shortly after the last one finished. Braith and Aria are reunited with their friends and family, and all of them preparing to take down the newest – and possibly most dangerous – threat to the world that they have fought so hard to build. Our beloved characters face danger, violence and devastating loss as they are split up in varying missions to rally the troops, fight, protect and defend as they gear up for the final battle.
And for the first time, this book is written in multiple POV, allowing us to see everything that is going on, and I loved getting inside everybody’s heads! Not only so that we get a complete view of the action, adding lots of layers and excitement to the story, but just to be so close to these characters that I have followed and loved through seven books. Not just Braith and Aria, but Jack, William, Melinda, Daniel and even Max! So, so good!
It’s exciting, but it’s also very emotional as the group are forced to face more loss, and we feel it all with them. I had tears streaming down my face and my heart ached, but it’s war, and we can’t expect it to be all happy all the time. I loved the way the story played out and that epilogue healed me completely as we get a glimpse into the future to see everybody living their HEAs – including a wedding and lots of babies. Hooray!
I have loved this series so much, and this is a wonderful end to the story that began in The Captive. Erica Stevens has given us an exciting paranormal adventure with lots of emotion and more than one beautifully intense romance, and I look forward to many rereads in the future.
4.5 stars!
Note – I listened to this one as an audiobook, and the narration by Luci Christian is fantastic. Definitely a great one to listen to!
The Captive series has always been one of the best paranormal series out there (in my opinion). Braith and Arianna captured my heart from page one and became one of my most favorite couples. Their love was strong from the beginning and only grew stronger with each obstacle they faced. When I realized the final book, Unbound would be mainly centered around them I was beyond excited. While I enjoyed Jack and William’s stories, Aria and Braith for me were the Captive series.
Unbound was amazing. It was everything you hope for in a finale. Action packed (the fight scenes were intense and SO good!), jaw dropping moments, multi-povs (which was great because you got to hear from past characters that never had their own chapters before), swoony love and heartbreaking moments (tissues needed). I couldn’t get enough of this book and it reminded me why I adore this series so much.
I’m very happy with how it all came to an end (except for one thing that I won’t spoil but I’m still not over it) but was so sad to say good bye to these cast of characters. Some I’ve loved from the start and others I grew to love them over time. The epilogue was perfect and I’m hoping the author will visit this series again and maybe do a spinoff?
I can’t recommend this series enough and I know I’ll be revisiting Braith, Aria and the rest of the Captive family in the future. 5 Stars!
Bring on the tears! I am so sad this is the end of the series! This will always be one of my favorites! Erica didn't disapoint with the finale! There was so much suspense, action, love, violence, growth and everything else you could want!
Annnnndddd I'm done🙌 This was honestly a great series, and I liked it so much more than I expected I would. I really enjoyed all aspects of it and I'm glad the author didn't go the kinky vampire, making everything overly smutty and erotic, way, which I feel like so many vampire books are especially with the whole slave aspect. This series was actually a bit on the cleaner side, not too much, but there were no descriptive sex scenes, and I kind of wish there was though because of Braith🔥🔥.
This book specifically, had a lot of POV changes, which did make it drag in some places, but some I did actually like, such as Daniel's POVs, and of course Braiths. I loved how Aria really stepped it up in this book too, knowing she had to even with her going crazy, and i was right there with her because of my baby Braith😭 like I love him so much, and even though i knew he would come back to life I was still crying half the book because of him and Daniel. Which brings me to, why Daniel😭 he deserved a HEA after all he had gone through in his years just like the rest of them. I couldn't stop crying when he died because whyyyyyy.
But besides this being the saddest book in the series, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Atticus' book is the only one I haven't read yet but I will soon because I need to know more about him and Genny, and how it all came to be that made him the way he was, and even though I haven't read it yet, I already feel sad for him. Especially after reading how Aria and Braith were feeling when their connection was severed, so I'm already anticipating crying the whole book.
Overall, this was an amazing series. I loved all the characters and it's sad to have to let them go, although I know Braith definitely made it to one of my top heros. And even though I rated these books mainly 4 stars, I think the overall story is a 4.5 to 5 star story. It was unique, it had a lot of romance, I never felt like I had to put it down, and I loved the world building and characters, so definitely recommend.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My God, I didn't think I would cry at the end of this book, but here we go. It was just so tragic and harmonic at the same time. I am sad this book series is over. (thank god for the prequel with Atticus, tho)
I loved to find out more about the world this series is set in itself and actually enjoyed the fact that there wasn't an entirely new romance that posed as the main plot of the book. All the character were drawn out with love and passion - everything a book needs for me to be perfect.
however, and that is why I can only give 4,25 stars. I felt like I didn't really got to know more about the depth of the relationships themselves.
2nd time reading the series: I still absolutely love this series. Aria and Braith are the best and I love their connection so much. I love the added drama in this last book. My biggest hang up is still not much of an ending for Xaiver, I would be completely giddy over some kind of novella following up on him haha, well possibly Milly as well. More on those characters and I would feel fulfilled by this story haha.
I did change my rating from 4 to 5 stars. When I first read through it I was really shocked and hurt by one of the deaths at the end and I think that skewed my rating. With rereading it and knowing it was coming, I enjoyed the whole series overall. This is probably one of my favorite full series as I like the tie ins between books.
Original Review: So I love love love this series, and fair warning there are some spoilers ahead....
I love how they hinted at pansexual with Daniel, but why couldn't he have been bonded with Xaiver? That is probably one of my biggest complaints with this series, they wrapped everything else up but Xaiver.
There was also some really heart wrenching parts in this book and while I fully understand the why behind them, it was hard to read and made me reluctant to continue on but it was mostly worth it when I did. It still has a fairly HEA. Not my favorite in the series but still very good.
The series finally concludes.. And I'm really sad to say bye to Braith and Aria - I love these two. Strong, powerful, full of passion and love *sigh*
This book, like others, tells story from different point of views - actually all the main characters. The only reason I reduced the one star was because I had to either re-read the lines or turn back to see who's point of view I was reading.
Quite a lot of twists - nervous endings for chapters which kept me on the edge. They finally uncover who the 'Fake queen' is and ofcourse the plot involves how they bring her down. I love the way the author conveyed how Aria felt throughout her journey, while recruiting troops to fight the enemy. U actually feel so sorry and bad for aria and at same time she makes you proud her with her strength and vision(?). Braith, of course is the ever possessive, protective and powerful King (God-I want him baaaad!). There is not a lot from his end in this book - but last 100 pages is where he comes into the plot - but he doesn't disappoint.
About the series - I was more captivated and captured with Braith and Aria's story. the other were so and so.. So I was glad this finale was focused on them :) Will be one of my fav couple!
Unbound was a great ending to a fantastic series. I have enjoyed this series and the characters within this story from the very beginning so I was excited to see how things would turn out and who would get their happy ever after. There were things I absolutely loved and disliked about this story. At one time I was wondering what was going on with everyone because I had never seen a group of vampires cry so much. I wanted the strong humans and vampires that I’ve known since the beginning of the story. I also wanted more new information than what I had already known from reading previous books. However, it was great finally finding out whom the mystery woman was and I can honestly say I never expected it to be her; I hadn’t even thought of it. It was great to learn more of Braith’s history and the power he holds. So, this book definitely has more than a few surprises. I wished Daniel had chosen differently but at the same time I understand his choice. I absolutely loved the ending and it left me with a smile on my face. One of my favorite series has finally come to an end, but this is one series I can read over and over again and never get enough.
The conclusion to the Captive series was absolutely amazing. It included everything I've ever wanted in a book. Oh my gosh reconnecting to the new and previous characters was like coming to my family reunion. I loved all the characters of all the books is this series. This book was the perfect ending to my HEA. The characters was like family that you wanted to see triumphant and finally find peace and happiness. The tension was high, emotions were near the surface and all I could do is read and feel what they were feeling. Vampires and humans wanted the same thing to defend and and love no matter the sacrifice. I was in the edge throughout this book in particular. It included joy, fear, sorrow, and happiness. Vengeance introduced use to the enemies that no one believed existed. And Unbound bought the final epic battle against a new threat to peace between the humans and vampires. I'm content knowing everyone found loved and is living happily in the world of equality. And all the babies at the end. Everyone had more than one baby. Freaking amazing series!!!
I was so proud of Aria's character in the story as she really grew. She had always been a fierce independent woman but in this book she becomes a leader. The sacrifices made by everyone in this book had me wailing like an idiot numerous times. This wrap up is by far my favorite book the entire series. BRAVO
I spent most of the story eagerly awaiting finding out what happened to Camille and as the end of the book came near I started to go omg wait no we still don't know. I was so happy to find that she had come to terms with everything and was handling it much better than Attitcus had.
I can officially let go of this series with a heavy, but very satisfied heart. As usual the author's writing never fails to leave me wanting more and keeping me up till all hours reading. This novel was the perfect wrap up to the series.
Unbound is the exciting conclusion to an awesome series. In this book, we have the opportunity to catch up with the characters from previous books and see how their lives and relationships have been progressing. I enjoyed reading more about each of them.
While much of the book is told from Aria's perspective, she and Braith spend the bulk of the book apart due to horrific circumstances. This was hard for me as I am all about the relationship aspects. However, the book is fast-paced as everyone prepares for a final, epic battle against a new threat to peace between the humans and the vampires.
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series and was very satisfied with the ending - loose ends are tied up and a bright future is on the horizon.
Even though this is book 7 in the series, I hate to see it end. It's been quite a ride and I have read every single book in this series. It all began when a girl named Aria is captured by vampires and sold to the vampire prince: Braith. Their love has stayed constant and true through the series. Now in the last one, there is a threat big enough to undo all of their hard work, and it's coming their way. I have to say I was surprised who this threat turned out to be. In fact there were a few moments in this book that I just had to stop and go "No way!". Yep, it's happened. There are also some real nail biting moments. But the end? It's perfect. A wonderful way to wrap up a series.
5 STARS ALL DAY LONG AMAZING BOOK Loved this last book of the Captive series, its follows Aria and Braith in the upcoming war to claim his roll as Vampie King against Sabine who is trying to usurp him. It was heartbreaking in parts as they r trying to win this war, loved that we got to here off all Aria family and friends along the way on what each of them was doing to make this happen. I have loved this series from the begining and would love for there to be a few spin offs, this is def a series to pick up if u have not read this yet as its a amazing journey. Sad that this was the last book but i was not dissappionted in the ending at all....loved it.
Bravo...again Bravo!!! I just finished Unbound, the last book of the Captive series and it was amazing!!! I took my time reading this one trying to absorb every word (I did not want to miss anything) and after being frustrated at some characters, a few surprises and the shedding of many tears, I can honestly say I love this book. The characters had their battles and not without some type of loss. I started this series a while back and this book gives the series I believe to be an epic ending. This is just my opinion. Hope y'all enjoy it as much as I did.
This is one of my favorites series and this has one of my favorites main couples. And I'm like that, when I like a couple I don't want them to die or break up. That's why I was dreading reading it after Arias's words on the last book about the new enemy. I sensed doom coming, something would go wrong on the next book. And then I decided to start reading after days and couldn't stop. And what I feared most happened. I wanted to burn the book! However, I continued reading and when I reached 72% of it I finally relaxed, became happy and started to love the story. Now i'm sad because it ended. I want more!
I have so many emotions right now. This was an amazing ending to my favorite series of all time. Nothing was left unanswered and we got to live this last book through everyone's eyes. My heart was in my stomach for most of the book I felt everything right along with the characters. From laughing at stories they told or crying through 3/4 of the book lol. I'm so sad this series is ending but it was so epic I'll reread it for life. Thank you for wowing me with your words once again.
There is a happily ever after if you wait for it...
The journey that Aria had to endure in this book was heart wrenching. I found myself in tears more then once. This book was mainly around the trials of Aria and the waiting on Braith. The family rallied together to keep the peace in the kingdom. Erica Stevens brought you into this continuing story of vampires and humans she make them the family and friends. I hope this isn't the last book, but if it is I will say she left you knowing that there is a happily ever after. Children included.
5 stars isn't enough. I loved this entire series from start to finish. Sad it's over, but I'll re-read it many times. Erica made me fall in love with characters I hated and made me cry many times. It was an emotional journey, experiencing all the highs and lows, and 2 pretty late nights because I didn't want to stop reading. This will always be one of my favorite series. Thank you Erica for such a great read!!
I have been in love with this series from book one page one! Aria was so special to me and Braith has always been my number one fictional love! I was so sad to find out the stairs was ending but Ms. Steven's did an amazing job with this final book. I laughed and cried and tried to draw it out as long as possible! Aria and Braith , Jack and Hannah, William and Tempest and all of the old and new characters will be missed
