Lauren Beckwith, environmental scientist and pediatric oncologist, works tirelessly to identify industrial pollution and the corporations responsible. When the pollution is in the pristine wildness of northern Colorado, her own backyard, her friends challenge her professional ethics and demand that she not just identify the pollution but do something about it. Alexandra Aoeron Aonwyn, Queen of Fuar Ćala, is struggling with the after effects of a heinous bio weapon released on her world. The children are falling ill with a mysterious disease. If she is not able to find information about her enemy's weapon for her healing technicians, her people are doomed to die with this generation.
A winter field trip, a ragging blizzard, and a grievous injury bring Lauren and Alex together. Will Lauren find answers to her self-doubt and professional guilt? Can she help Alex find a cure for her people? Only a soul mates bond is strong enough to create a quantum convergence and allow them to find each other and heal.

Read this a year ago. So second time around on this one in prep for book 2 that just came out. It's a thing I've gotta do, if enough time passes between books I usually go back and do a re read. I read soooooooo many books that characters and events sometimes gets shuffled around so a re read sorts them out. So as before yes, this indeed something I'd categorize as my 5 star column. Great sci-fi/fantasy a bit wonky on the romance arc, but the end result is pretty stellar. Anyway. Loved it. Now moving on to book two :)
I really enjoyed this book!!! At first I thought all the technical stuff would be too much, but after a few chapters I wasn't as bothered by it. Perhaps because it becomes less present. The characters are lovely, especially the companions. Can't wait to read what happens next!
Okay, I'm ready to gush about this one. There isn't anything I can say I didn't like. The initial part, when Lauren is on Earth and doing her job, was interesting. I liked the technical and scientific stuff she was doing, and her personal interactions with Jamie, Susan, and Sharon were fascinating. It definitely made me interested in what she was doing, and why she had closed herself off so much. The part about Mount Zikal was good too; a fight for survival which ended with her dazed and confused and truly wondering if she was off her rocker. The second part was almost like an idyllic interlude. Sure, there was danger and a perilous journey, but the bonds between Alex and Lauren, and to each of the animal companions was intriguing. And, although part of me wants to say that they got together too quickly, I'm not sure how they couldn't have when their souls meshed so quickly, when they could each see into the other and know the kind of person they were falling for. But I seriously thought that after they got together, the story had to be pretty much over. Enter part three and boy, was I wrong. The fact that they got together so quickly didn't make everything smooth sailing, and sure enough, outside forces conspire to separate them. Truthfully, at first I didn't trust Merilyn, the Seneschal, because I was certain that it was her who'd separated the two women. The end is action-packed, and wow, almost like a divine right sort of thing. I didn't like the jump from Lauren being in danger to Lauren looking toward home, I felt like I needed a bit more story in between there, but the end of the story leaves so much open for book two, and I will definitely be looking for it. This is really sci-fi, but it has a great many fantasy aspects to it as well, which makes it a wonderful mix. I couldn't put the book down, and if you're into sci-fi or fantasy, you won't be sorry if you pick it up. I obtained a copy of this book from Inked Rainbow Reads for review.
I really enjoyed this story. The blending of the characters and the companions and mindspeak is great. It captured me from the beginning and kept me till the end. Looking forward to #2.
Thinking I took more in on the second read, now I'm ready for book 2.
A truly delightful read. Such a unique blend of things that I love in this book. Sapphic romance, sciencey sci-fi (more on this in a second), fantasy tropes and atmosphere, a sweet love story, genuinely enjoyable talking animal companions…and more!
I have to say, the science aspect really set this one apart for me. I loved Lauren’s character—her backstory, scientific expertise, career, vocation. It made her feel unique as a romance protagonist, and I was completely engaged in the science aspects of the story. They elevated not only Lauren’s character but the overall plot. Immeasurably. I was so invested in everything going on with the environment and with the bioweapon.
So glad to have read this one, and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes!
2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: A Quantum Convergence by C.A. Farlow 1) It’s always good to find a series that let you waiting impatiently for its sequel, this is that kind of book. I really liked this story, it’s different enough to be interesting right from the start and it’s well developed that even if there are a lot of difficult theories behind the characters travelings, the story never become too strange to follow. I also liked a lot how fantasy elements where well placed into the story to give the plot an hedge that other sci-fi don’t have. I will wait impatiently for the next book. 2) This one is a book I’m going to read again and probably read others in the series. It captivated me in places.
With just enough technobabble to not confuse this sci-fi is definitely heaving on the sci. It uses and references a lot of real world theories that do a lot to show just how intelligent C.A. is. At first the two MCs shifting speech patterns confused me, but then it became clear as to why, so the story does well in explaining itself. This is one of those instalove stories, but I really think it's done well even if the characters do get way too mushy with their pet names for each other. It's a sweet and endearing juxtaposition to all the heavy topics and hard science being thrown around.
This book is different from any I have ever read. The writer does not treat her readers like sixth grade students but with an intelligent and capable mind to understand the science in this book. Very interesting characters and a refreshing story. Yes readers are capable of understanding more than meet, fall in love and HEA. Can't wait for the second book of this series. How rare for a writer to realize that her readers are actually intelligent and not mindless robots wanting nothing more then the same tried and true, boring, dribble that litters this genre. Very good book and highly recommended for those that enjoy thinking their way through a story.
The author did an amazing job if creating complex characters and weaving then into a believable world immersed in fantasy. The action and storyline drew you in and kept you ready to the end. can't wait for the next!
I really truly loved this book. I am a rather large science and math nerd so this book was right up my alley. However I think it would be exciting for non nerds too!
This was a wonderful story, full of drama and love. The characters were full bodied and the story grabbed and dragged you along on the tips of your toes from beginning to end. A fascinating read.
My biggest gripe is the technology. Terran apparently is both technologically advanced and technologically behind. It felt goofy the entire story. Also work on Earth is left almost entirely forgotten (after she adjusts to new reality).
I was hooked from the moment i read the first paragraph. I could not put the book down, i finished it in a day. The story was well written, and you fell in love with the characters, even the animals. great mixture of science, humor and romance
