The Otherworld is a shadow world that overlaps the human physical plane, a place where magical beings evolved, their heritage the missing link. These two worlds collide when behavioural profiler Morgan Skelly visits a crime scene in Norway on winter solstice. There she meets the man who has starred in her dreams for years.
Drake Obsidian has the looks and body of an ancient god, the heart of a dragon, and the soul of a hero. His strength and magnetism make him irresistible, a force of nature from a magical realm who enters Morgan’s life like a sexy tornado. His truth blows her make believe world out of the water when he reveals her heritage with every embrace.
An ancient evil Master Fae is horrifically sacrificing women at the pagan festivals and equinoxes of the year. His goal is to open the seven Gates of Hell by harvesting their souls.
Powers are revealed, alliances are made, sparks fly, lightning strikes, and worlds collide. Morgan and Drake’s passion holds them together while the Otherworld tries to tear them apart.

Wow! This book has such a gripping storyline that I just didn’t want to put it down. The action scenes are thrilling, and the love scenes are steamy. Morgan and Drake have such a strong connection from the beginning and together, they are more powerful than they are alone. I loved this story and will be recommending it to my family and friends. I look forward to reading the next one in the series to see where it takes us. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wow, what a fantastic start to an amazing series!!! A page turner to say the least, The authors writing really brings the characters alive. The alternating perspective really keeps it fresh as you get the feelings and emotions of the two main characters. The action is kick a$$ and the "adult" action, oh boy!!! Looking forward to reading this whole series!!!!!
TLDR: I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to a romance reader!
I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into starting this book. It was the first I’d read from Voracious Readers Only... and I just didn’t know. Also.. I’m not normally a fan of books this dark.. and let me tell you - the murders at the beginning of this book were pretty dark.
That said - I really enjoyed this book - there were definitely times I could feel myself smiling/laughing - and I LOVE when a book can do that for me.
I really liked the characters - Morgan is trying to find her way in a world she doesn’t understand. And then there’s Drake - ahh Drake - he brings the best parts of smoldering alpha male and giant teddy bear together and he’s always making jokes, laughing or my favorite - smirking.
Check this book out if your looking for: - Someone finding the man of her dreams - and I mean that literally (how dreamy!!) - Scenes of gory murder and disembowelment (fortunately there aren’t that many and they aren’t that long...) - A girl who thinks she’s normal finding out she’s the least normal person ever in history - One true love, soul mates, fated mates whatever you want to call two people who are destined to be together (which I’m a total sucker for) - Overall - I was very pleasantly surprised - the rest of the series will definitely be going into my TBR pile!
This is the first book in The Otherworld Chronicles by C.R. Robertson. If the other books in the series are as good as this one then I will be happy to continue the series. When I first started reading this book I didn’t realize what an in-depth world I would be entering. This is the first paranormal romance book that I have read in a while. I have been reading more contemporary romance so this book was a breath of fresh air.
There were a lot of parts that I liked to this book. I loved the Morgan and Drake together. It doesn’t take them very long to get together, but when they do their relationship is goal worthy. Each has their own weaknesses that the other is able to make up for. They are able to maturely explain what they are feeling and thinking with very little drama. It was very refreshing. I am not big on books dealing with crime but I really liked it because to dealt more with the mythology and explanations of the crime than the actual crime itself. The only thing for me that I struggled with was getting into it at first. It took me a couple of chapters to get hooked, but once I did it was great! I would recommend this book to anyone and am going to be reading the next in the series.
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review*
When I read the premise of this book, I knew it was something I was going to love. I was hooked from the first chapter, hell, the first sentence, maybe even the first word! I wanted to know exactly what was going on at all times. Besides, it took me less than a day to read!
The characters were great and described in a way that I felt like I knew them personally! Drake was... Well, he was amazing. Maybe it was me but I didn't expect things to get so... Steamy is the best word I can think of. (I might just be that unobservant!) His and Morgan chemistry was palpable and the fact that it was enevitable that they were going to get together was made better by that slow build of actual acts instead of thoughts. Sage was lovely as was Anabelle, I just wanted to bundle up and hug them! The only thing I will say is that I wish there was more time spent with Harvey! If there is a dog in any book, I automatically want them to be in it longer.
The mix of myths and fantasy worlds drew me in and I felt as though I could picture every last detail in my mind. I love what this story is about - it's filled with imagination, ambition and pure creativity. Probably one of my favourite reads for a long time.
I am eagerly awaiting to read the next book!
I received a link to the copy from the author via voracious readers only.
Elements of Flames is the first book in the paranormal romance series The Otherworld Chronicles. If you’re not a fan of fated romance, hot alpha males, and strong independent female characters, then this book is probably not for you…
This book involves a complex story that reaches between two worlds of a fated romance that was predicted generations before. The realm of science and fantasy collide to create a story of love, death, deception, and survival.
I won’t ruin the storyline for you, but here are some of the tropes to allow you to decide if Elements of Flames is for you: Fated romance Hidden magical ancestry Psychopathic serial killer Secrets that threaten their HEA Mythological undertones
This was the first book I ever wrote, and I still love the concept behind the story, the characters, and the possibility that there is a magical world that overlaps with ours.
I hope you enjoy it, and join Morgan and Drake on the first step of their journey.
What was wrong with me and why did I only finish this one sitting-duck-in-my-kindle just now? Ffs I was always that reader...
But anyway...holywowzah! This read was one precious gem. I love the gradual world building. I love the concept. I love the writing style.
Most of all, I love morgan and drake. These two are just ugh...so swoon worthy. Morgan is so freaking unreal. She's mature. She's the silent but is a killer type-and I don't mean the assassin-killer type (they're cool, too, anyway) but I meant killer as in strong af powers and all that jazz.
Drake. -commence readers' sigh of appreciation- He's just so alpha ish but in a positive note. Cool guy. Real man, if ever...even i can't help but blush when he goes all protective and loving and just generally amazing with morgan.
You bet I am reading the next book right. Freaking. Now.
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!! WHEW!!!! What an emotional ride of suspense, death, myths. faeries, ogres, shifters, dryads. spirit walkers, twin flames, and so many other characters. This story had me up all night reading straight through. I could not put it down. This is a first for me from this author and this genre and I loved it. What chemistry Morgan and Drake had was HAWT!!!! If you love the old scary fables well in this book they are a possible reality. There are also gentle pure hearted personalities as well. There was some humor sprinkled here and there to make it interesting. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. This is a must read. I voluntarily received a free copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
This was a good story with interesting characters that are well developed and likeable. There are a few grammatical errors and sentence structure issues that, if fixed, would improve the book. The story started off strong, with a good plot and interesting world building. The pace was good until the last part of the story. Once the group quest started things went too fast and were a little unclear. While the pace became fast there was a lack of urgency and momentum in the buildup to the final confrontation. All in all it was an enjoyable read that could use a few tweaks and a re-edit to make it into a truly stellar book. I received a complimentary copy from VRO in return for an honest review.
The author even commented herself through her character how much of a stretch the instant feelings between her characters were. So I mean she has to know the comment will be made.
Other than that I really loved this book. The settings and characters were lushly detailed so it was easier to picture every moment and yet at the same time were tempered enough so as not to slow down the pacing.
The plot and world building were excellent and even thought I set this to Alexa with every intention of falling asleep to it, I find myself awake hours later all interest in sleep gone and anxious to get to the next novel in the series. I haven't felt this excited about a book in a while and I can't wait to read more.
This was a good story that begins this series that's about Morgan (Amethyst) Skelly a spirit walker and Drake Obsidian. All her life Morgan had terrifying dreams. Morgan works at King's University in the behavioral dept. researching the occult and teaching Forensic and Criminology. Morgan gets a call from Malcolm Jones of Interpol about a ritualistic murder that they want her input on in Norway. Arriving at the scene of the crime Morgan realizes it the same as her previous dream. Unable to sleep after having another dream Morgan goes to an all-night bar where she meets Drake a pathologist who is also on the case. What occurs in this supernatural thriller is an engaging story that intrigued me to the end. The characters are engaging, the romance steamy, and the storyline was well written.
Firstly I got this book free from the author via Voracious Readers. The book gripped me from the start with our heroine Morgan Skelly being called in to visit a crime scene in Norway. Whilst there she meets Drake Obsidian but only she can remember him being there. The book follows Morgan and Drake not only on the trail of a Master Fae who is committing murders to open the gates of hell but Morgan's awakening to her heritage in the Otherworld. I liked that the characters are well written and that the story has a plot rather than just being a boy meets girl, especially that Morgan is a strong woman. I'll definitely read others in the series.
Oooh I loved this! Its not often you come across a book or series that you love everything about it. Characters, story, naughty scenes, world building. I like when mates get a mark on their skin...its kind of a cool thing to happen. I also love a good Alpha who is all out Alpha but not a butt nugget. This book has it all. Different creatures which I love. I just really cant say enough about it. I read it in one sitting. I was up all night. I am so reading more! Oh one thing I wanna point out is I like when your building a world that authors dont shove it down your throats or in your face right at the beginning. It was gradual here. Awesome!
I really like the idea of this story, but not so much the execution. Random things were overly descriptive, without adding anything to the story. Things that added to the plot were glossed over. The story unfortunately played second fiddle to the insta-love between the two main characters. There was so much repetition of meaningless things that it distracted me from what was going on. Our female mc automatically knew how to use her powers, even though she previously had no idea that she even had powers.
All of that being said, I might continue the story to see if it improves in the next one.
Dark and Light makes fascinating Wonderful beginning of a new fantasy series that makes for a spellbound story of good and evil. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, at the end it is clear there is more to follow. Terrific world-building, lifting the veil slowly and more and more characters enter the scene. Funny dialogues, steamy encounters, a couple that is meant to be and save the world from horror. Linked physically, emotionally, spiritually, they complement each other and make each other stronger. Couldn’t put it down, had some laughs and a very enjoyable time reading it. Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.
I read this book in a few short days, it was too good to put down. It's everything I love in a book... descriptive details that create amazing visions that take you into the story. Characters that come alive with each page. I love the topic/genre as well, it's interesting and the story just comes captures you. I enjoyed the love story as well, I'm a romantic. I am hooked, can't wait to read the next book!
I don't write my reviews recounting everything that happened in the book, because you can read that on the blurb. I am incredibly happy to have discovered this new author! It's been an incredibly long time since I discovered an author that writes this kind of fantasy as well as this, so it's amazing to me that this is a debut novel. She has created wonderful characters (and yes, I'm jealous of one for very specific reasons that you will soon discover when you read the book) and her worldbuilding is excellent without dragging as this tale ensues. I've already 1-Clicked the sequel!
I really enjoyed this book. A great story full of murder, mystery and magic. Evil is abound in the world, lives are being lost and one loan woman sees these deaths before they happen but is powerless to stop them. A chance meeting with a tall dark and smouldering stranger will bring her into a world she thought was just a bedtime story and her life changes forever, bringing her face to face with the man from her nightmares.
Thought this was a brilliant first novel, great story and characters that draw you in.
Elements of flames is the first innstallement of The otherworld cronichle. I loves this book. The characters are well-thought out and the lore is amazing. Sometimes the author explained a bit indepth about elements of the lore, but it was so interesting that you don’t really mind.
This book has a great story arc, great characters (and progression of them), fiery love story and amazing build of the world. Recomend this book to everyone that loves magic and Adventure.
I can’t wait to read the next installements of the series!
The book had me hooked in just the 1st chapter. Usually if I stay interested in the 1st chapter; I will continue to read on. This was a book that I could definitely escape reality for a couple of hours. I love books that allow me to escape and that I can actually visualize through the words. This book is for those that love the imagination of fairies, dragons, evil and being saved by good. Fun read!
Nicely written story that took me on the journey with Morgan to figure out who she is and where she comes from. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down as I just had to know all about the mysterious Drake and the role he player in Morgans journey. I find it nicely written and easy to read through as it took me less than 2 days to finish the story. Now I am just curious as to how the story continues.
This book totally had me hooked quickly. The author wasted no time bringing these characters to life and set them down a very riveting storyline. I enjoyed having a very strong female main character that didn’t immediately fall all over her hormones. The is a new author for me so I am pleased with this first impression and happily looking forward to reading more of this series.
What a ride! This is the first book I have read by CR Robertson, and it certainly won't be the last. I was drawn into the story from the prologue! The plot and the characters were memorable. The chemistry between Morgan and Drake is downright steamy. I was reminded of early Laurell K Hamilton. If you like stories about the fae, Elementals, and magical beings in general, then this is for you.
This was an unexpected fantastic intricately weaved story. The characters and plot were very well written. There are some laugh out loud moments that"ll have you laughing. This story pulled me in from the very beginning until the end. The depth and detail given in this tale were in my opinion very vivid giving making you feel like you were there seeing, doing, and taking in every last descriptive detail. A definite must read.
WOW this book is beyond amazing, with twists and turns it keeps you on your toes trying to figure out the next plot. Full of detail and characters that are brilliantly written, this book pulls you and refuses to let go even when you read the last word you are wanting more. Highly recommend reading this story
I love books like this, where the flow reveals hints here and bits there. Layers of story that are rich in detail and complex in the interweaving. Magic, fantasy, romance and a Criminal Minds worthy investigation all rolled into one. The characters grab your imagination and then run away with your heart. Buying the next book now!
This book is a Masterpiece!!! So good. So, so good. The details are so well laid out that you’re feeling like you’re out there in the action. The characters are fantastic. The story is different than everything I’ve read before and it’s hard to put down this book. I need this book to be adapted into a movie or tv series like yesterday. I am hooked!
