Rate this book
In an ancient land of warring nations, Selena’s unique beauty marks her as a prize who might secure peace through marriage. Although utterly innocent, she has been thoroughly schooled in the conjugal arts by her mistresses, and now she stands ready to tackle her biggest challenge.

With an invasion force on her country’s shore, Selena’s queen offers her as a bride to the rapacious Prince Óscheo in exchange for a treaty. Struck by her stunning beauty, Óscheo accepts Selena and takes her immediately to his tent, foregoing the rites of marriage. Inside, the maiden teaches him of pleasures scarcely imagined. But Selena is not all she seems, and in his lust Óscheo unwittingly gets himself in a tight squeeze and unleashes an ancient and terrible magic.

I live in Sydney, Australia, and I have hopes of one day writing popular, mainstream fiction. I like stories more than words, journeys more than destinations, and numbers more than the things that they count. When I'm not writing, I enjoy reading, surfing, time with friends, buying the wrong shoes.

If you enjoyed a story, let me know by leaving a comment or writing a review here on GoodReads. It lets me know you’re still reading; and if you’re still reading then I’ll keep writing.

I had read Unsheated first and my complaint was that I thought it was one story broken into many books. The author was kind enough to contact me and let me know that the books are similar to that of a TV series each book is it’s own entity with some of the same characters playing a part. With this information I was able to adjust my mind set and enjoy Queen’s Gambit.

Warrior Queen Anja and Sorceress Selena are trying to defend their realm from an invasion. Each is willing to do what needs to be done to save their people even if it means sleeping with the enemy.

The author has a great way of giving you enough back-story on each character that you really get to know how they think and what motivates them. Oscheo the invader his thoughts are very rough and crude and a little off putting at times but you realize that it is his very persona that you are seeing, you see how small minded and petty he really is, a bully in royal clothing.

Selena uses her small stature and seemingly innocent golden looks to her advantage. She has kept a tight rein on her siren side as she knows the destruction it can cause, however in order to hopefully defeat Oscheo she must let it out.

Anja is a strategist and knows she is taking a risk with her kingdom if she is not able to best Oscheo at his own game. She will need all of her skills and her warrior blade to defend from his invading army.

This short story has everything, erotic steam, battle of wits, treachery and sword skills. A great steamy read.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This book was fantastic! It's short and part of a serial and while that sometimes bugs me, this one didn't. Instead, I soaked it up and found myself excited for the second one. I can't give much more of a description that the book's blurb does because otherwise, major spoilers would be given away. Needless to say, I did not expect what was coming and I was enthralled. If this book was just okay (it wasn't, it was great), it'd still receive 5 stars from me for originality alone. I've read a lot of books (to give you some idea, I own well over 800 paperbacks, not counting the books on my Kindle and Nook), and this was ranks up there with unexpected and completely enjoyable. Belinda LaPage does a wonderful job of describing the world, so much that you feel as if you're there. I promise you won't be disappointed if you pick up a copy of this book, and when the second one comes out, I'll be the first to snatch it up!
