The book “Pride” is the third book to the sequel Seven Deadly Sins. In this book a lot has changed! Just like we read in the second book, Kane and Harper's plan to break up Beth and Adam has worked. Adam and Harper finally become boyfriend and girlfriend, along with Kane and Beth. No one saw either of these couples together, but the couples themselves definitely did! The way Adam and Beth were broken up was not very fair to Beth, because she was framed. The students all went on a skiing trip, and the couples connected even more. Harper talked Kaia into throwing the party of the year on New Years Eve, and she did. It was definitely a party for the students to remember, considering the fact that Adam and Beth found out the truth that Kane and Harper sabotaged their relationship! Adam and Beth then get back together and expressed their feelings still for each other. Kaia feels bad for Harper so she feels that she should step in to help Harper and she tells Beth that Adam cheated on her with Kaia. Kaia is being tossed between being Mr. Powell's secret toy, and developing feelings for the mysterious Reid.
The main characters still remained the same as the first two books. Kaia picked up more of a role in this book, because instead of being enemies with Harper, they become good friends! Nobody could see this coming. Kane also picks up a main role into Harpers life, seeing that she just lost ‘the love of her life’. Beth is starting to change and open up her feelings more and more, because Kane is trying to get to be more wild and not so up tight. Adam still has hatred towards Kane for stealing Beth from him, but he is broken when he finds out that his best friend was behind him losing Beth.
The book takes place in the small town of Grace, very similar to Weyauwega. It is in present day, and in this book most of the scenes occur at Kaia’s house, Mr. Powell’s apartment, Adam’s back yard, and in the hotel of the ski trip.
The author’s main purpose for writing this book was to entertain her audience. I think she achieved that goal and more. Everyone I have talked to that has read her series the Seven Deadly Sins has only had good things to say about it!
I know I myself have enjoyed it, and I can easily relate to the series, the high school drama, the boyfriends, and the best friends. When friends back stab and lie is a huge relation! The story line stays adventurous, so it continues to be interesting all throughout the book.
I do recommend this book for older girls, because it is a drama but it is a little too much for younger kids to read. Boys probably will not be as interested in this book as girls are, because of the drama. I did not really like the way this book ended, but that is just because I did not want Beth and Adam together, so we’ll see how the fourth one is with all these couples in distress!
I give the book “Pride” a definite A+. This story is about all the things a group of teenagers face throughout their school year. A lot has changed in a short time with these kids. Kane and Harper accomplished their devious plan of breaking off the happy couple. With Beth and Adam no longer together, Kane and Harper immediately jump on the opportunity. Now with Kane dating Beth and Adam dating Harper it makes everything more complicated and causes more drama. Adam and Kane are no longer friends and Miranda realizes she cannot trust Harper anymore. Kaia, being the mastermind behind the whole plan, is now enjoying herself in Grace as she has a secret relationship with Mr. Powell. She also starts to have feelings for Reed who she feels she is way too good for. All the drama going on with these teenagers builds up and eventually everything comes out at Kaia’s New Year’s party.
The characters in this story are Harper, Adam, Kane, Beth, Kaia, Miranda, Reed, and Mr. Powell. Harper is the gorgeous, superficial girl who gets everything she wants. Kane is conceited, handsome, charming and the kind of guy that loves being the center of attention in everything he does. Adam is good-hearted, athletic, and good-looking. Miranda is the girl with a great personality but not great looks who everyone looks at as just a friend. Beth is the smart, pretty, and delicate girl of the bunch. Kaia is rich, arrogant, and mischievous. Reed has been getting closer and closer to Kaia lately. He is poor, ruggedly cute, and for the most part quiet. Mr. Powell is the Spanish teacher at school who is now dangerously close with Kaia.
The setting of this story takes place is the small town of Grace based on present day. The story bounces around as it is told from the point of view of the seven teenagers. The school, the diner, and the houses of the kids are the main places the characters spend their time.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author gives you chances to expect what is coming but also be totally unaware of what will happen next. I enjoyed reading about all the unexpected things throughout the book. I would definitely recommend this book to other people. I would recommend it to teenagers and any adult women because it can be relatable.
I'm loving Reed. He's sexy and mysterious and fantastic. I can't wait for more of him. I'm ready to shoot Harper, though, that girl just... ugh, I don't know. But I can't stand her, maybe because she's living in denial over how just how much of a two-faced disaster she is. Which brings us to Kaia - who is Kaia, and knows it, and is unafraid to admit that. You can't help but love that conniving little bitch. Same with Kane, because he's so conceited and obnoxious and a player, and it doesn't occur to him AT ALL that he's messing up people's lives (unlike Kaia, who does it for fun, whereas he just... does. Awesome.) Love to hate him, hate to love him - just like Chuck Bass. And then Adam and Beth... who are just being played by everyone else. They're the simple-minded idiots who you want to strangle but secretly love watching them being thrown around like rag dolls... OH AND MIRANDA. Lol almost forgot her. But I guess that makes sense, considering she doesn't really do much, apart from moan about how lonely she is while hitting up dating sites, and happily lets herself be used by her best friend.
Cannot WAIT for Wrath. Just so Miranda can finally find out about Harper, because you have to feel sorry for the girl. And someone dies! Aaaaah!
I think this was just as good as the first two. I finished it pretty quickly because it is such a good read! There are characters that I absolutely love to death and am rooting for all the way - then there are characters I can't stand to read about. The ones I love are Kaia (who I hated in the first few), and Reed! They're my favorite to read about, and I really hope they get together. The character I hate is Beth. She is so boring, and whenever the paragraph is about her I can feel myself rolling my eyes. But that doesn't mean I don't love the books - I've already started reading the next one!
Personal Response: I gave Pride, by Robin Wasserman, a four star rating. I was always anxious about the next event. The storyline often had plot twists which I found intriguing. The story of six teenagers’ high school drama was still being continued, and it was still packed with drama. Plot: The spoils of war could often enjoyed greatly by the conquerors. Harper enjoyed Adam’s company, and Kane enjoyed Beth’s. Kaia enjoyed Jack Powell, but Miranda still sat there all alone. The perfect couple had finally been broken up, and they started to move on with their lives. All Kane, and Harper had to do was not let the secret out. Kaia sat back and enjoyed watching the pot being stirred. However, she was more than unsettled when Jack Powell started seeing other women, so she decided to have another affair herself. There was jealousy everywhere about everything, but some things couldn’t be kept quiet with the silence. Tensions were building and just waiting to boil over at any moment. Characterization: Harper was always looking for a good time. She was confident and always in demand, but she finally had what she wanted -something more than her normal random hook ups. She had Adam, her best friend and next door neighbor since they were little kids. He was attractive and sensitive, and had been going out with Beth. She was all around beautiful and sweet, and her schedule was always jam packed. Kane desperately wanted her, and he always got what he wanted. He was the gifted jock whom Miranda pined over. Miranda was Harper’s best friend. Though she didn’t have the looks the other girls had, she had brains. Although, somehow she was hopelessly in love with Kane even when she had a boyfriend of her own. Kaia was still an outsider to town, but she and Harper were starting to get along better. However, she still was devious in her mischief. Especially in her pursuit of Jack Powell. He was the most sought after man: handsome looks, an accent, and money. Although above all things, he was a sleazeball. The friends all wanted something they didn’t have, and it drove each of them crazy. Setting: The story took place in the small town of Grace, California. The small town added to the story. Since there wasn’t much to do for fun and recreation, the teens were always looking for the least objectionable options. Based on the references to technology, cars, and fashion trends, I was able to tell the story was set in relatively modern times. Theme: The theme of the story was what goes around comes around. This was evident in the situations all the teens ended up in. Kane and Harper broke Beth and Adam up, and their relationships were never quite right. Jack Powell cheated on Kaia, so she cheated on him. Harper was mean to everyone especially Beth. When Beth had the opportunity, she took it to return the favor. Every action the teens made had great effects on their lives. Recommendation: I recommended this book to teenage girls ages 13-18. I had an age limit of 13, because I felt at this age girls would be able to comprehend the scenes. I had an age limit set, because I felt high school drama might not be interesting to people out of high school. I didn’t recommend this book to guys, because I felt they would not enjoy reading about the drama. I didn’t suggest reading this book until prior to reading Lust followed by Envy since those two were first in the sequel.

Personal response: Pride by Robin Wasserman was just as good as the first two in the series. The drama and how boring things were in Grace, CA were very similar to here, which is nice to connect with. I got into the book really fast and enjoyed the how different everyone was.
Plot: In the beginning, Kane and Harper are all too cheery to celebrate their gains. Yet poor Miranda, is stuck sulking over Beth taking Kane from her. It even seems to be Kaia has got her hot French teacher in the bag, but kept a secret. Though to keep getting what they all want, their secrets -- and pasts -- best stay forgotten. Miranda now has a new strategy to Kane in her life, though deemed impossible since he is now distracted by Beth. Haven High goes on a big ski trip and that’s the first time Beth and Adam talk since their break up. On the trip Harper gets injured by going down a slope she’s not ready for and Kane gets annoyed with Beth not taking a small risk to a bigger slope. Kane hits the harder slopes after Beth says it’s okay to go and she’ll be fine on the beginner hill alone. After a long day on the slopes, they all go back to their rooms, except for Adam and Beth. Adam goes to Harper’s room and tends to her injuries. Meanwhile, Beth goes to Kane’s room to just hang out. Kane was looking for a little more than just hanging out, Beth wasn’t. Kaia decided to stay at home, away from Mr. Powell for the weekend and relax alone. Lucky for Kaia, she meets Reed when he delivers her pizza. Kaia isn’t into dirtballs, but something about Reed had her wanting more. Unsure of what it was, she knew she needed to find out. After getting back from the big trip, everyone started going back to their normal routines. Kane and Beth, Adam and Harper are going perfect until New Year’s Eve hits. The happy couples go to a party at Kaia’s and things slowly start to unravel from there. Kane gave Beth her Christmas present, only to realize Beth didn’t want the pills that would help her “let loose” and have some fun. Beth wasn’t a drug taker, so she declined, but was made to keep the present just in case she needed them later. Beth, overwhelmed by the gift went and got some air on the balcony. Later Adam joined her and they finally had a real talk. After a bit of talking, they decided to go back inside and find their dates. Except, they stumbled upon something much worse. Kane, intoxicated and drugged up, was revealing the dirty truth about what they did to Beth and Adam. Beth ran out of the house crying and Harper tried to apologize to Adam. Adam wouldn’t take it because his whole relationship with Harper was a complete lie. Adma found Beth and they thought they’d give their relationship another chance. Only for Kaia to see that Kane and Harper ruined the plan. Kaia told Beth how she had slept with Adam and since then, Beth is out to get revenge.
Characterization: Harper Grace: Harper has what she wants and she will do everything possible to bury her secret about how she got it. Harper keeps digging herself lower and lower with all the lies.
Miranda Stevens: Miranda is trying harder to look hotter than ever for Kane. After a bit, she feels like she should just give up and go for someone else.
Kane Geary: Kane finally has what he wants: Beth. It’s too easy for Kane to pretend like he never made up that lie for him and Beth to finally be together.
Adam Morgan: Adam now has Harper to fall back on after Beth supposedly “cheated”. Adam is happy to just forget Beth, until one night at a party.
Beth Manning: Beth now has Kane to keep her occupied on the lonely nights. Beth trusts Kane because he was there for her at her worst. Too bad Beth doesn’t know Kane is nothing but lies.
Kaia Sellers: Kaia finally has her super hot french teacher and is completely happy with him. Except for some of his rules he has laid out for her. All those rules are followed, until a certain boy called Reed comes along in her life.
Setting: Pride starts out in December and it impacts the book by showing how when someone wants something, they can use their resources of a small school to start rumors about others.. Grace is located in California and in Grace, everyone knows everyone. Grace is so small that under aged kids can drink without getting in trouble and get away with about anything they want.
Thematic connection: A common theme that appeared is appearance versus reality. This applies to Kane and Harper because they are acting like they were not the reason for Adam and Beth breaking up. This theme also applies to Kaia because she pretends that she does not care what Mr. Powell does, but she really does
Recommendation: If you love drama and tragic love, this book and series are definitely for you. I would recommend this book to anyone in high school. It was really easy to connect with being the same age as the characters in the book. I really enjoyed how similar it was to our town and how realistic it was. I definitely give this book a five out of five stars.

I read the book "Pride", which is the third book of the "7 Deadly Sins" series, by Robin Wasserman. Overall the book was extremely good; I like this book the most so far. Throughout the whole book I wondered what would happen next. "Pride" is about Harper and Kane being happy with their significant other, Adam and Beth. Also, Kaia gets what she wants, Mr. Powell. Mr. Powell set some ground rules for him and Kaia if they were going to have a thing. Everything is going good until Kaia’s New Years Eve Party when Beth and Adam find out the truth about what split them up.
Characterization really comes out in this book. After Harper and Kane get what they want, they both turn lovey, dovey and become these people they are not. Beth becomes heart broken and confused with everything; she feels that her life is falling apart. Adam also becomes confused with his life, but he pushes that away to be happy that he is with Harper. Mr. Powell shows that he can get what he wants in front of Kaia to make her jealous. Kaia does get jealous and to get back at Mr. Powell, she pretends to have a thing with the pizza boy.
"Pride" also takes place in modern day because of the dialect and the clothing that was worn. The actual setting of the book mainly took place at the high school. There were some other locations mentioned in the book.
A theme that appeared is appearance versus reality. This applies to Kane and Harper because they are acting like they were not the reason for Adam and Beth breaking up. This theme also applies to Kaia because she pretends that she does not care what Mr. Powell does, but she really does.
I recommend this book to readers that are in high school or above. The reason why I recommend it to that specific group is because there of the language and the events that happened are for a more mature crowd.
As the third book of this series (The Seven Deadly Sins), Pride may be one of the best books in the series, in my opinion. The story leaves the original setting of the town and the crew goes on a ski trip. On this trip. friends become enemies and enemies become friends, at least for a while.
I thought this was the best book because it really shows the change in the characters. Instead of the simple plot that appears in the other books of this series, this really changes the way I thought of each character.
Personal Response: This book was just as good as the first two books in the series, if not the best so far. Pride didn’t have as much drama in it, which made it feel more realistic to a real life setting. I enjoyed all of the unexpected plot twists.
Plot: In the beginning, Kane and Beth were still in the “new love” stage and I could tell that Beth was not the same with Kane as she was with Adam. Kane often showed a lot of dramatic irony as well. He would say one thing to Beth, but he would think the complete opposite. Kaia and the French teacher are still going strong, even though she is having a hard time keeping her feelings under control. She tries a lot of things to make him jealous, so he could appreciate her more. Adam and Beth finally start talking again when they have to go on their school field trip. I could tell that Adam still had feelings for Beth right when he started talking to her. On New Years, Adam and Beth are reunited once again. Kane attempted to give Beth “feel good” pills, but she rejects. She becomes frustrated and finds herself next to Adam again. They had a nice talk about everything, and got to clear their chests. Once they went back inside, they found Kane revealing the truth about what him and Harper did. Beth became upset and ran back outside with Adam. Adam and Beth were going to give their relationship another chance, but Kaia ruined that one. Kaia revealed what her and Adam did while Adam and Beth were dating.
Characterization: This story is about four teenage girls and two teenage boys. The boys’ names are Kane and Adam. They’re both seniors in high school, and they like to drink a lot of alcohol. The girls’ names are Miranda, Harper, Beth and the new girl Kaia. Kaia is my least favorite character, and Adam is my current favorite. The boys are the typical jocks of the high school while Beth is the smart, shy, bystander. Harper is the most popular in the school. She and Miranda are best friends. Kaia is the new girl who is a snot to everyone behind their backs. Mr. Jack Powell is a newer character, he is the French teacher at the school. He and Kaia are an “item.”
Setting: They live in a small town, with nothing to do but start rumors about people. It’s in a modern day format, because they have phones. Pride is in present day, though, because they still used land lines and had school newspapers. Both of those things are sort of outdated now.
Thematic Connection: The theme that stood out to me was appearance vs. reality. Kaia really fit this theme. She appeared to be a nice, beautiful, city girl, but on the inside she was trying to break everybody's hearts. She was nice to people's faces, but behind their backs she told rumors.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book to anyone in high school. Specifically, I think girls would like this book more. Girls can relate to it better since that’s mostly what this book consists of. If readers don’t like drama books, this wouldn't be for them. Younger kids might have a hard time reading it, because there is some foul language.

I have no idea why pride is a 3rd tome of the series, since pride itself is a root of all of the other sins (or the foremost sin; besides there was no implication on the cover of the book that the stories were related to each other [so I had to catch up with the whole story])...
Anyway the book is ok I guess. The narrative is quite dynamic (which is a plus) and the book is very easy to read (to be finished in couple of hours tops) and finally it accurately portrays some human behavior based on a number of "Seven Deadly Sins".
On the other hand its pretty shallow - compared with my favourite author Stephen King and his books it lacks in certain psychological aspects of the characters presented, mainly their depth, inner thoughts and all corresponding feelings. I've had a hard time identyfing myself with any of the characters and I got really bored at some points.
Finally I haven't found that much pridful behavior outside of the cliffhanger at the end. I think it deserves a 3.5 or 4 especially due to the fact that the topic is extremely interesting and may give some younger people a good idea on the long term effects of their (or their surroundings) mischief behavior, as I believe that "lie has no legs".
For me, reading a definition of sins is enough; there are many other books where that could be deduced from.
On the other hand perhaps it's a good approach given current literary and social trends with people achieving everything right away? Mostly due to social media and constant distractions, where it's hard to focus on one thing for a longer periods of time?
It's not a bestseller out of nothing, although it falls short compared to the classic books I read so far ;)
Oooh so i see where is this going now. It's not as dull and not so simple as I thought it would be. The story was planed elaborately and cleverly. There's more than one dimension into that. Now I understand why the author made Adam slept with Kaia (according to #1 Lust). I have reviewed in #2 Envy that Kaia wasn't someone I'd like to associate with (I still wouldn't want to though) but it seems that she had sympathy towards her conspirator (Harper) more than I thought. I could feel a smirk on Kaia's face when she said to Beth "I hope you'll be more satisfied by him than I was". Just...ouch.
The only thing I felt a little annoy was that every single character in this book were obsessed with sexualities! I know they're 17 and young but It's just the mention of it were just too frequent, which annoyed me quite a bit.
Anyway, the story overall has push this higher than the first 2 books of this series (#1 Lust and #2 Envy) I rated. 4 stars indeed.
I read this book series back in 11th grade. I only vaguely remember them, but I know that I really liked them a lot. Sloth & Gluttony were my least favorite books in the series, according to my diary entries about this book series in October 2009. I read Sloth (#5) & Gluttony (#6) before reading Wrath (#4) apparently, so I was a little bit confused by them and that may have been why I liked them a little less. I really liked Lust (#1), Envy (#2), and Pride (#3) a lot though.
This had an expected plot twist, however it was juicier than I expected. I love Kaia blue cause even though she's a trouble maker, what you see is what you get... the Adam and Beth Characters keep acting like they're perfect and I hate how judge-y they are...
What I really like about this series is that... it's based on modern life, real life, and not just your average fantasy romance novel.
I feel so completely bad for Harper, though she may be so cruel to people... it's not completely her fault that she is mean. It's this world and how corrupted people have became. She loved Adam, but Adam would have never known he loved her just as much when he was in love with Beth. I totally feel for her and understand why she decided to do the things she did and was very guilty of. She's not the kind of girl who would just watch the guy she loves and have known for her whole life walk away with a girl she obviously hates yet envys. I wish everything would work out for Harper and Adam, Harper was actually happy! She was starting to experience another side of her, a nicer and kinder side, all just from being with Adam. See what love does to you?
But yet, a part of me wanted Beth and Adam to stay together, they were also perfect! Well... perfect in the meantime. The end of senior year was coming to an end and both of thier ideal futures were very different. Beth, colledge, and Adam, to waste his life away staying at Grace,CA. So basicly thier time together was only an distraction from boredom in this desolate town.
Kane... well I've always despised him from the start... this book just increased my opionion about him. He is truely corrupted and I feel as if his picture should be on this cover instead of Envy.
Kaia... I still find her kind of annoying.
Miranda makes me think of Cinderella... in real life. I mean... how can everybody get thier version of prince charming? Some guy much out of thier league? Face it girls, you can't expect your fairy godmother to pop up and help you get your prince charming, and sometimes, effort isn't enough. And most of the times... your prince charming isn't really what you expect... and sometimes... your pointless crush on a pathetic guy might just stop you from realising who you truely love. In this case for Miranda... Greg. So you really have to watch out and really think about what you're doing... deal with it... it's real life.
And Reed... I really just don't understand him at all, probably because there are no point of views from him.
I LOVE THIS SERIES!! I ordered all seven books from my local library and am so hoping I won't be disappointed in the next four books. I doubt I will but at the end of this book they mention that someone dies in the next?! Ugh I realllly hope it doesn't wreck the series for me but I trust Robin to make the rest just as good as the last ones. I highly recommend everyone to read this series it gets you hooked right away and wanting to read the next one asap. I really don't want to say anymore about this book #3 because it might spoil for those who haven't read the first two. I would recommend this series to anyone ages 11-30 who likes a good drama/love story that has a lot of secrets and intriguing twists. Starting book #4 today and can't wait to see what happens now that everything's falling apart.
A lot of this book has little to do with pride. Although I really liked Beth and Adam in the first book, now I think that I'm sticking with Harper and Adam. When Harper is with Adam, she just seems naturally happier and her instinct that tells her to screw around with other peoples' lives just tends to halt. To sum it up, Harper is a lot nicer when she has someone. I really think that this book really shows the true colors of each of these characters because now that things have changed, you'll see how they are around the other people.
definitely the best one so far! i was dying to see how harper and kanes plan would turn out and wasserman didnt disappoint. yet again im drawn back into high school in the best possible way. the characters are so decadently awful and equal parts amazing. really cant wait to see what happens...starting the next book now
At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies :)
Kaia has quickly become one of my favourites, and I'm hating Beth even more and I honestly didn't know that was possible.
I love the fact that everyone has redeeming qualities that save them from being complete and utter villains, and everyone can probably identify themselves with them at some point or another.
Love Reed's introduction in the story, by the way.
Everyone is faking big time in this book. Harper feigns sweetness to keep Adam, Kane pretends to understand Beth, and Kaia plays both the French teacher and Reed. This book was a great follow-up to Envy.
Oh my goodness. Words cannot describe my happiness! The characters, the set-up, the drama... oh my goodness! I can't get over the ending to this book! So unexpected, so inevitable, so perfect! Thank you Robin Wasserman!
I thought the book was really really interesting and it kept me reading from the beginning to the end. I love how the characters were throughout the book and the ending was so bittersweet it was hilarious
I really hate Kane. I'm so glad Beth finally saw through him! Although I don't like Adam and Beth together at all, he really needs to get over her and realize how terrible they are together. Anyway, I'm interested to read the next book and find out more about the "New Beth".
My friend told me about this series. I actually really enjoyed them. They're interesting and it actually shows how a lot of teenagers are. It's a little exaggerated also. But they're really good.
