The Madog Trilogy #1

Forgotten Dragon: A Novel of 12th century Wales

Rate this book
This is an alternate-cover edition for B00SU532HK.

Forgotten Dragon tells the story of a man placed in the middle of a bloody conflict between siblings. A conflict that will ultimately lead him to turn his back on the country he loves and look instead to a distant land far to the west, known only in Norse legend and myth.

The year is 1170 and the death of a great prince leaves a power vacuum in the North Wales kingdom of Gwynedd. Prince Madog, who wishes to see his dying father’s wishes honored, unearths a sinister plot.
As Madog strives to see justice done, he must prevail over treachery and duplicity from those nearest to him, outwit dangerous mercenaries, survive perilous seas, and overcome the interference of powerful Norman Earls.

The story wends its way through the rugged mountainous terrain of Snowdonia, navigates the treacherous Menai Straits, before sailing across the Irish Sea to the Norse city of Dublin, itself wracked in conflict, and striving to remain free of expanding Norman influence. It reaches its dramatic climax on the Isle of Anglesey, the ancient Druidic capital of Wales.

The first novel in the Madog Trilogy, Forgotten Dragon is a lusty tale, rich with colorful characters, humor and bawdy adventure.

Born and bred in North Wales; after graduating from The University of Leeds with a Mining Engineering degree, I spent the next seven years living and working in Southern Africa. This was followed by two years each living in California and London.

I currently reside in Colorado, but return to North Wales on a regular basis to visit family and rediscover my intrinsic ‘Welshness’ And get some proper fish and chips and a decent cup of tea!

Unpolished

Such a conglomeration of characters, locations, and difficult names--yet it was the plain English words that proved difficult. Punctuation was also lacking.

Worst of all, we suffer through all this military plotting, only to have the bad guys win and the good guys take off in a sequel so the story doesn't even end. 😒

Final whinge: The title on the cover and repeated by the author at the end says ""House Divided." I get that it's part of a series but shouldn't that appear in the listing? I mean... "Forgotten Dragon" appears nowhere in the book itself!

I've read the reviews and have to say I don't exactly agree with most of them. The names are WELSH, so yeah..the names are hard to read, if you only read "US English". No, the plot is not very deep, but also not clustered with too much detail. I do not need to know that the ale had hints of blackberry, like some other stories I've read. Overall, the characters were well described, and I enjoyed the story. Thanks Dia - good story.

This is the first of The Chronicles of Prince Madoc. Madoc is the bastard son of Owain Gwynedd a Prince of Gwynedd. When his father dies, the crown is up for grabs, and it pits his brother, Hwyel who was chosen by their father to be the next in line, against Dafydd who his mother backs. At the end of this book, they narrowly escape Dafydd's army by sea.

Exciting

The beginning of a great adventure! Lots of action in this story and a cast of characters that are sometimes hard to keep separated. Due to the names. But keeps your attention!

DNF. Halfway through, and they're still not even on the way to America. Plus he desperately needs a copy editor - not just for the punctuation errors, but bloopers like "advisory" when he means "adversary".

I couldn’t finish this. The plot was juvenile, and I was just too bored.
