Personal trainer Terri Whalen breathes car exhaust fumes the way other people breathe air. Born and bred into a NASCAR family, Terri travels the race circuit and ensures the drivers are in great shape. Her job first. Men always seem to want more than Terri can give…until she meets Max Harper.

Max is a good-looking single dad, and the spark plugs between the two start firing almost immediately. When Terri brings Max and his daughter to experience the "behind-the-scenes" world of NASCAR, it's immediately obvious that business has turned into pleasure. Ever since she was in first grade, Michele Dunaway wanted to be a writer. Even later in life, she found herself writing, and served on Kirkwood High School's newspaper staff, her college paper, and a local music newspaper (which led to Michele's five-second appearance on MTV's "The Week in Rock").

"I've always wanted to write fiction and I published my first stories using my sister's manual typewriter," she said. "I wrote love stories, and married myself and my sister to the cutest boys in the neighborhood. My sister wrote westerns and killed everyone. We had a great time and I guess you can say that those first stories hooked me into wanting to write more."

Michele concentrated on her writing, even while getting her teaching degree.

"While I earned my undergraduate degree in education, my master's degree is in media communication. In my spare time, apart from studying and teaching, my hobby has always been writing. I still have romance novels in the basement from when I was in high school and college. They're scrawled out in my handwriting, and written long before I knew anything about weaving plot, setting, and character. A teaching colleague Ed Washington read a Highlander fan fiction novel I wrote and told me I should try to seriously get published. So instead of it just being a dream, I set about trying to make it reality," she said.

In 1988, Michele set a goal at her five-year high school reunion to be published by the year 2000. While she authored three professional journal articles, and compiled the Journalism Education Association Middle/Junior High Curriculum Guide, it wasn't until August of 1999 that Michele learned she had sold her first novel to Harlequin American Romance.

"I'm thrilled that I accomplished this. Writing for Harlequin has always been a dream of mine, and words can't express the elation I felt when I heard they were buying my novel. I found out in the school office and the school nurse came running out because I was screaming with joy after I put down the phone," she said.

Since then Michele has sold over 15 novels to Harlequin and her works have been translated into French, Italian, German, Portuguese, and Japanese among others. Describing herself as a woman who does too much but doesn't know how to stop, Michele also teaches high school English, advises the school yearbook, and raises two daughters and five spoiled housecats.

Secrets And Legends Series Book 11
Terri Whalen grew up in the NASCAR world. Her father is a crew chief for the up and coming Bart Branch. She also works as a personal trainer for Bart and others among other side jobs. When a mishap in a parking lot destroys her beloved truck she is hot under the collar and ready to fight tooth and nail with the insurance company. Who knew dealing with the agent there would change her life?

Max Harper had always thought himself content just raising his daughter. His ex wanted to be a starlet and had an erratic life so he wanted stability for his daughter and didn’t date much. For the first time in ten years he meets someone who shakes up his world as he knew it and wouldn’t you know that his ex-wife would choose this time to decide she wants their family back together.

The series continues with excitement on and off the racetrack. The reader gets to know Bart Branch a little more in this story along with the importance a good workout means for the driver. Alyssa Ritchie’s, the mistress of the missing Hilton Branch, book finally releases. The season is continuing to wind down but the excitement and mysteries are still going strong. The next book in the series is Hot Pursuit. This is Kylie Palmer’s story. She is the PR rep for Will Branch and has been introduced in earlier books.

First of all I'm a NASCAR fan, so that probably colors my perceptions of this book. Now that the disclaimer is done...I enjoyed reading this book based on the life of someone involved with NASCAR. I really liked that it wasn't about a driver, or at least not an active driver. The main character used to drive in the Truck series, but didn't have the talent and that extra something that moves a driver on to Nationwide and the Cup series. What she did have is a love of the sport and figured out a way to carve out a place for herself in that sport. I love a book that has a strong woman character and this one had it in Terri Whalen. A business owner, stunt car driver and a fan of the sport she grew up around, this woman has a full life that gets turned upside down by an accident to her much loved truck and the man who helps her with her insurance claim. Sure the outcome was pretty much a given the minute she heard his voice but getting there was fun.

My question is will Bart find his true love?

Not the greatest book I ever read but certainly better than others, about the same as the rest of a majority of the series I would say. Anyway I wouldn't buy it but get it from a library or borrow it or something...

Tailspin is a fun quick read that is sexy and endearing. Watching two people attracted to each other come together and face their fears helps this story along, with likeable characters and fun banter of the sexy NASCAR drivers, what more do you need?

This is a cute story of a woman who does not want to fall in love especially with a man who has a child. But as luck would have it they fall in love. Cute read for a couple of bucks.

A romance novel based in the environment of NASCAR. This could be unintentionally funny.

Boring. To much talking about what they want or do not want in a relationship. Needed lot more to it. I do not consider this book to be a good read.
