Bode Noonan delivers a full course dinner of slightly wacked-out, politically and spiritually conscious lesbian thought. She takes food as the theme for each essay and uses it as a means for getting insider her (my, your) head to expose some of those innermost thoughts which all too often whiz by unnoticed.
Read in one sitting, this was a pick up from my brothers fiancé, who has been keeping an eye out for lesbian literature ever since she learnt that I’m collecting it.
Perhaps this book is sentimental to me now. It moved to the top of my reading list because Bea found it for me, I read it, enjoyed it immensely, and still I’ve attributed this delightful book to Bea, rather than the author, for this thoughtful feast of words.
I’ll hold onto this book and in a few years time when I need some wisdom, I’ll find it again and think of good friends.
“So we have white beans, red beans, pinto beans, lima beans, mung beans, soy beans, has beens - No, no! Has beens. That's too silly - garbanzo beans, lentils, peanuts, split peas” (pg 14).
i felt as if i was being hugged the whole way though. just when my mind started to wander, discussing amino acids and the molecule make up of proteins. a joke, prevailed. a lovely quick read <3
