This was not a feng shui 101 book. Written for people with at least some backgrounds in the basic concepts of feng shui, the author takes a different approach to the topic and covers different ideas while glossing over the very basics. The bagua map is used and very briefly covered, for example, while the concept of colour is explored much deeper. Ms. Stasney includes summaries and explanations of safe vs risky colours as well as chart including cultural associations and physical and psychological effects of colours.
The author has a unique and informative approach to feng shui, including topics I've not seen in other Western feng shui books. She discusses the idea of safety (represented by the tortoise) and inspiration (the phoenix.) She also goes into some depth on the concepts of a space for an individual vs a shared space. She takes circadian rhythms and perceptions of furniture into account.
I found the book interesting and educational. I expect to re-read it and possibly invest in a copy for myself. Not recommended for those with no previous knowledge of feng shui.
