Tegan Ryan is tired of being an outcast. Being the offspring of bear shifters, but lacking the ability to shift, keeps her detached from the shifter world; and living with bear shifters, and keeping their secrets, keeps her from fully connecting with humans. Her height, along with miles of plus-sized curves, doesn’t help the situation, and neither does the bone deep desire she has for her brother’s best friend.
Ethan Brooks, a black bear shifter, and second-in-command for his small clan, has loved Tegan since the day she was born, but he never understood their connection until her eighteenth birthday. Unfortunately, Tegan’s feelings toward him didn’t change, and in an effort to save his sanity, he buried his longing and tried to ignore it.
Realizing you’ll never truly fit in anywhere is devastating, but Tegan knows it’s the truth. When her alpha grants her permission to leave, she doesn’t waste time embracing her new life, but that doesn’t stop old threats from emerging. After years of unsuccessfully denying his bear, Ethan won’t let anything stop him from claiming his mate…but he’ll have to face one pissed-off alpha, a raving lunatic, and a skeptical curvy beauty that owns his heart, even if she doesn’t know it yet. He’s definitely got his work cut out for him.
Guys – Bear Shifters can sometimes be stupid silly. Come on, you know it, I know it and I suspect even they know it. Ethan has known for a very long time that Tegan was his mate. He’s loved her forever, and on her eighteenth birthday he knew for certain that she was his. But when Tegan’s bear didn’t come to her on that birthday (as is normally when a Shifter’s bear first appears) Ethan believed from her reaction that she didn’t care for him in the same way. He never considered that just maybe the fact that she was the only member of their clan who never got her bear half might have had something to do with how she was acting. So Ethan began withdrawing his friendship, slowly but with deliberate intent. It just hurt too much to know that she was his and she didn’t want him. Like I mentioned, clueless.
Six years later and one horrific date later and Tegan has finally had enough. She is trying to slip quietly into the home she shares with her brother Tristian, the clan’s Alpha after a date that went horribly wrong. She’s sporting a bruise on her face from where he hit her when she didn’t comply with where he thought their date was headed. Surprised to find Ethan in the kitchen and even more stunned to hear him berate and belittle her over the damage a man did to her, as if it was her fault was the final straw. When the man you’d secretly loved for all of your life basically calls you a whore – enough is enough.
Ethan knew from the moment the words left his mouth that it was a stupid, hurtful thing to say – and he didn’t mean a word of it, he was just furious that his mate had been harmed. But instead of turning around, apologizing and groveling as much as possible, he shifted and let his bear run off his frustrations for the night. By the time he returned Tegan’s plans were in place.
She couldn’t stay. Knowing just how much Ethan hated her sealed her decision. She’d ask her Alpha, her brother for permission to leave the clan in the morning. She had a cottage to go to, she’d be fine. She could no longer stay here knowing that one day Ethan would find his mate, knowing that she would never be able to share a shift with any of her friends, knowing that her bear had abandoned her leaving her in this limbo between the shifter and human worlds. It was simply too much.
Unfortunately for Tegan by leaving the protection of her clan she is heading into trouble with no backup in sight.
I enjoyed Ethan. A short, sexy story of the silliness we believe when we don’t come out and state what we’re feeling. And being afraid to listen to the truth from someone else. As the first story in the new series, Blackbeary Creek, we’re given an introduction to the other hot members of Tegan’s clan and some background on how they all came together. I’m definitely looking forward to the next story.
If you love Shifter Romance then Ethan is the starting story you’ll want to have on your reading list. It’s always best to know the entire series for full enjoyment, in my opinion – and here’s the chance to start at the beginning.
This is a new series for her and it was written very well! I enjoyed the story. Ethan is 2nd in command and Best Friend to the Alpha Tristan. Tristan's sister Tegan can't shift. She's human and has been in love with Ethan forever. Ethan and Tegan are mates but since she's human she doesnt know but he does. He treats her badly knowing she's his and tries to deny his feelings. All because he thinks she didnt return his feelings. Tegan is ready to leave and start living life without a clan. She's not a shifter and she doesnt necessarily fit in with humans either. She wants to be alone and after an attack Tristan grants it knowing its what she wants. Ethan not able to stay away any longer waits too long to tell her how he feels regardless if she accepts him or not. Before that happens Tristan calls him on his **** and beats the crap outta him for treating his sister the way he has. He knows he deserves it and takes the beating. Best part of the book! He sooo deserved it for treating her how he did. Before Ethan can get to her someone else is following Tegan to her new home. Can Ethan get to her in time before that psycho does? Lots of new characters in this book and I am excited to read more. Their romance was rushed at the end though. Liked both characters...even though he acts liked an ass at first. :)
WOW!!! What a great book. I just love shifter books and to top it off it is written by an amazing author.
My heart really broke for Tegan Ryan. She had a tragic lost in her past and her brother was the only family she had. She was also so in love with her brother’s best friend Ethan. She felt she could not stand to watch Ethan find a mate and felt she needed to leave before that happen. She also felt since she could not shift that she did not belong. She had no place in the shifter world nor the human world.
Ethan Brook was in love with Tegan. He truly has messed up. All this time he has not let his feelings known and this has caused so much hurt for not only him but Tegan as well. Now that he wants to come forth and tell her she is gone.
I truly loved Graham in this book. He was Tegan’s best friend. He truly cares for Tegan and wants to see her happy. The problem with Graham and Tegan being friends is it makes Ethan highly jealous.
Tegan’s life becomes in some serious danger and she has not let her brother and or anyone from her pack know her detour. Ethen knows somethings is wrong. The question is can he find out where Tegan is and get to her in time before it is to late?
This was an amazing story and there was so many characters I truly liked. I so can not wait to see what other books comes out in this series.
Shapeshifter romance. Plot was thin. Reason why he didn't tell her she was his mate didn't really make sense, it was pretty lame. Short easy read with a little suspense and romance. I doubt I'll bother with the rest of the series.
I enjoyed the book but am some disappointed in the ending. I wanted more, I wanted to read about the new couple returning home, and the big reveal of Tee's surprise. Overall a good book even with the ending feeling rushed.
This went b very quick, Tegan can’t shift so she believes she needs to be somewhere where she can be herself and not worry about being not human enough for the humans and not bear enough for her brothers’ clan or male bear shifters. Tegan was a survivor when her parents were killed in a robbery? She didn’t say what happened since she was 10 and hiding. So it’s her and her older brother and his best friend (and 3 more clan members, Graham her best friend from college, Zack and his cousin Aiden that her brother hired to protect her away at college) against the world. Ethan has put his mating instincts on hold for 6 years but it’s killing him not to have his mate Tegan, so since she couldn’t shift he has been there but not as a friend but an a$$ towards her. Until he comes home from a mission and finds her gone.... trouble is on her tail but she she face it with her self defense or will it come and take her before Ethan can save his wayward mate?
A delightful story about a small bear shifter clan. This first story in the series concerns the Alpha's sister and the second in command, Ethan. Ethan and Reagan have been dancing around each other and their feelings for each other for awhile. Finally when Ethan decides to make a move things become very complicated. Read this lovely story to find out what happens to Reagan and Ethan.
I love all the shifter books. They are a quick entertaining read. Always get to the point of a story without the long drawn out melodrama. This book has all the action, romantic and sexy storyline without all the needless filler. It also has interesting characters that make me want to keep reading the next book not only for Tristan's story but to follow more on Ethan's and his mate.
The story was a pleasant, low-angst, bear-shifters read. The typos were somewhat annoying and the miscommunication trope just didn't make any sense. Why didn't he tell her - in 6 YEARS?!! Reasons are given, but they are lame when it is a fated mate you're holding out on. Broke both of them with long-lasting results. HEA
Short and sweet. Good start to a new series. This was a quick, easy read. Love bear shifters and can't wait to read about the other clan members of Blackbeary Creek.
I very much enjoyed Tegan and Ethan’s story. Absolutely loved the ending and happy there are 4 more books in the series, cause I can’t wait to read a bit more about them.
The characters were good but this author seems to get bored and then falls short with expanding on her characters and then the endings seemed rushed . At least put in a epilogue!!!!
*WARNING* story contains sexual content This is a sweet story about a bear shifter getting his mate. It's well written and it's well edited. The story is just okay. This story is like many other shifter stories I've read, it's just "okay".
Another emotional and interesting paranormal romance from Ruby Shea. Ethan has tried to deny Fate for 6 years but now he’s changed his mind. Is it too late?
This is yet another delicious and amazing tale from Rube Shae AND!! The start to a new series!! How much better could it be!!
Ethan has loved Tegan since the moment she was born and knew that she was his mate, when she turned 18! But Ethan has kept this wonderful blessing to himself, not because He wanted too! But because Tegan struggled with the one thing he could not help her overcome...she was not a bear!! Not that it made a difference to Ethan! He wanted her, but thought he was doing what was best for her...until she left!
Now Ethan is on a mission to get Tegan back in his life, even if that means defying his alphas wishes! But will Tegan believe him?
I'm completely enchanted by this new Blackbeary Creek series and it's only the first book! I absolutely loved Ethan and Tegan's characters, I'm also totally intrigued by Tristan! The hotel owners and the rest of Blackbeary Creek.
The plot was sweet but with the hint of the dark side. The writing was smooth and inspired....I cannot wait till book two!
Ethan Brooks and Tegan Aryan were really good characters. I wish this story would have been longer though. It is a brand new series. Ethan is a Black bear shifter and she is also, but she inherited the human side of her genes. She never shifted and she has always felt like the odd man out of their clan. She has been in love with Ethan for as long as she could remember but he has never wanted anything to with her as far as she has seen. She needs to get away for one day he will find his mate and she does not want to witness it.
Ethan is just tired of seeing his best friend's little sister doing things that could put them in jeopardy. He holds a secret that he has not revealed for six years.
These two have things to work out.
I look forward to book two. I hope the author makes them longer....please!!!!!!!
I'm really bad at righting reviews so please bear with me. I really loved this book I could not put it down once I started. For the first book in a series its really important that you set the characters and the setting for future stories without being to wordy. Ruby Shae did a great job introducing the main H and h to this story and automatically creating a connection with the h in the beginning. I also really like that the love story didn't start out wham bam thank you ma'am. The H had to fight his wanting and had to fight to win his mate and keep her safe. I am really looking forward to more books in this series; especially Grahams story (there's just something about a geeky, hot shifter that I love). Please hurry with the next book!!!
I loved this book it was a great read. It's not a very long book so you don't have to be impatient and I love that. Stop here if you don't want to read SPOILERS!!!!! Ethan and Tegan had know each other since childhood. Tegan was born to bear shifter parents but unlike other shifters she didn't get her bear when she was 18. Anyway I'm not going to tell the whole story but after her and Ethan became mates she finally got her bear. She had been suppressing it after the death of her parents. I was expecting just a happy ever after but I'm so glad she began to shift and I can't wait to find out her clans reaction.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I loved it! Seriously, I loved everything about this. The hero and heroine both tortured themselves needlessly for years, but of course they didn't know that.
The author has a flair for the erotic scenes, and the world building was amazing. I knew Blackberry Creek from the way that the author described and that's rare and its something that I really enjoyed. I look forward to more.
PS, I already read Tristan so look for that review very shortly!
Kindle Unlimited standalone in series. Cannot wait for more books!! He's know her since she was born. She's his best friends baby sister. She knows he doesn't like her anymore..... But why can't she stop wanting him. After a terrible date and his awful words, she packs up and leaves. Her life is in danger and the packs hindered of miles away.... I'd say it's a 4 1/2 star read.
Ruby Shae strikes again only this time starting with Tegan and Ethan. Tegan was an excellent h whose sweet, sassy, & curves for miles, one word beautiful. Being a curvy girl myself it's not always easy but you play the hand your dealt, love those curves ladies, we're fabulously feminine!!!
