Monica La Porta landed in Seattle several years ago. Despite popular feelings about the Northwest weather, she finds the mist and the rain the perfect conditions to write.
I received an ARC from the AUTHOR MONICA LA PORTA in exchange for honest opinion. This is MIsmousey very honest opinion of her book THE FIFTH MOON'S WIFE .
Ms. La Porta has done again with this book. When I opened the cover and started reading - I could not put it down till I had finished the story. I was captured-spellbound- mesmerized. It is a fast read!
The way in which Ms La Porta writes is truly unique. She creates her were wolves from nothing and brings them to life. They have depth- character- feelings- emotions. You as the reader are able to see them and feel everything that they are experiencing. As for the scenes in the story- they are so finely detailed. You can picture everything right before your eyes- to the smallest object even if it is a tea grain.
In our first book Fifth Moon Wolf - we met our character's the Blessed bride and her husband Valentine. Valentine if you remember is the last of his kind- and needs a heir. hence the need to marry . Someone wanted tare apart the couple and kill Valentine. But the Blessed Bride figured it out and stopped the duel in time.
Which brings us up to where our story starts off. It is after the duel . Dragon and Valentine are flying around . The Blessed Bride is all alone once again - she now has a new chamber maid as her last one was in on poisoning her. All she wants is her husband in her bed- and all he wants is to keep her safe.
He is afraid that if he gets her pregnant - that will end her life it did his mother's. Now there lots going on in this fabulous story! You had the number 1 favorite causing trouble. So- what happens with her? Then the Blessed Bride visits with her family. And something happens there. But what is it and who saves her ? And who is trying to get to the Blessed Bride? The BIG QUESTION IS DOES VALENTINE FINALLY SEND HER AWAY?

Picking up where the last book left off, this story dives deeper into the mystery behind the attack. I looked forward to reading this book and was immediately sucked into the story. The pacing was great but I wanted more. The story was a little drawn out and along the same lines as the first book. I liked the unexpected mystery towards the end and look forward to discovering more about what happens next to the characters. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Monica La Porta has given us the second book in The fifth Moon series and I can only describe it as sublime. Starting from where we left off in book 1 with no messing about we are ushered straight into a world of danger, intrigue, revenge and love. Valentine's desperation knows no bounds. It is heartbreaking to see him in this state. A man so encumbered by guilt and so adamant to do the right thing. Mirella's plight is like a stab in the heart, watching the man she loves falling apart, but at the same time finding the strength to voice her needs. Her character has grown in leaps and bounds. While our little kitten has grown some fangs and claws, Valentine is showing us his soft side where his bride is concerned. Whilst reading this book, I tapped my foot and bit on my nails many a time, due to the excitement and adrenalin rush I experienced. There were a lot of "please God" and "serves them right" accompanied by unending cups of coffee, just to get me through. Now what do I expect from the third instalment you might say... Well anything can happen, my theories might be proven right or I could be completely wrong about where this might be leading, but one thing I know for sure, it will be magical. Ms La Porta has proven time and time again that not only does she have talent, but that each word, sentence and chapter is written to tantalise the senses and make us dream. I was greatly honored when I was given an ARC not just in return for an honest review, but because the author trusts us readers enough to allow us a glimpse inside her mind. Thank you.
Every page you read you cannot help but keep you heart in your throat over worry about The Blessed Bride. You dread to wonder if her heart will be broken in the end. There is so much action in this book and you keep wondering who is behind all the trouble.
Monica keeps you guessing thru every page and so many questions you can't wait to get started on the next book. Please continue this journey with me, and hope we find out our answers.
Life for Valentine and Mirella does not continue to be easy. Between her fatal fate and the unknown Leader who wants to wipe out the Wolf clan, things have been one problem after another. They are no closer to finding a solution for either of them and time is running out. I am gripped by this story. I like seeing so many entanglements and how Valentine fights everything and everyone, including himself and his wolf, to get a happy ending.
CAPTIVATING, COMPELLING, AND COMPLETELY SPELLBINDING !!! Title: The Fifth Moon's Wife Series: The Fifth Moon's Tales Author: Monica La Porta Designation: Book Two of Completed Trilogy, Not A Standalone, Cliffhanger Warning Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Fabulous Stars***** I adore science fiction, infatuated with space odysseys/operas, fascinated by steam punk, completely smitten with anything paranormal and love, love, love romance but give me the perfect combination of all five and I'm in heaven, and that's exactly what Monica La Porta has given her readers in The Fifth Moon's Wife, the second release in The Fifth Moon's Tales. I've been a La Porta fan for several years and love everything she writes but this series really piqued my interest when she released the first book of the trilogy in April 2016 but I decided to wait until the story was complete. In retrospect, I'm sorry I waited, yet, I'm not sure my 65-year-old heart could have withstood the delay between books. lol... Yes, I get that involved in the books I read but, as usual, I digress. My resolve almost crumbled when La Porta released the second book of the trilogy, The Fifth Moon's Wife, at the end of July 2016 but I remained strong. On December 6, 2016, La Porta released The Fifth Moon's Lovers, the third book of the trilogy, and I dove in! And OMG, I was completely spellbound! I could NOT stop reading! I binge read all three books, approximately 560 pages, and was turning the pages so fast, my Kindle could hardly keep up. I loved it! I found the story to be imaginative, exciting, fast-paced, well-crafted and edited. The narrative was beautifully written in the third person with alternating his and her perspectives. The dialogue was seductive, mesmerizing, well-executed and flowed beautifully. The world building was absolute perfection with exquisitely detailed descriptions and beautiful scene depictions that not only brought the story to life in my mind but also left me breathless. But without a doubt, the pièce de résistance of this remarkable tale and my favorite component was the cast of fascinating characters. I found them to be unique, intriguing, well-developed and engaging. At the heart of every great story is a memorable hero and/or heroine and La Porta has created the perfect pairing with our two protagonists, handsome dominant werewolf Valentine Lobo and beautiful genetically-engineered human 'Blessed Bride' Mirella Canalis. Valentine Lobo is the lone surviving werewolf in existence and Mirella was created solely for him, the result of hundreds of years of gene manipulation. I was immediately drawn into this story by these two extraordinary characters who completely captured my heart. As I stated earlier, this story is a fascinating blend of futuristic science fiction, steam punk, fantasy, paranormal and space odyssey filled to the brim with danger, drama, adventure and suspense but skillfully woven throughout this remarkable tale is one of the most passionate, heartwrenching and emotionally gripping love stories I've ever read. At the end of Book One, I was angry; at the end of Book Two, I was heartbroken and inconsolable, but by the end of Book Three, I was content. I giggled, snorted, sobbed, ugly-cried and shook my fists in anger throughout the entire series but by the end I was happy, satisfied and completely entertained! Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy, dreamy love scenes. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my seat, white knuckling my ereader with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest while the hours flew as quickly as the pages! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Valentine Lobo is the last surviving werewolf and it's his job to ensure the continuation of his species. Unfortunately, for that to happen, he must marry and impregnate his genetically engineered human Blessed Bride. Sound simple? Not quite! It takes hundreds of years of genetic manipulation to produce the perfect candidate and once she comes of age, he has no choice; he must marry her. He will never love her. He can't afford to fall in love because his bride will die giving birth to his heir just as his mother died giving birth to him, a fact his father could not forgive. It's the way it's always been and the way it will always be. Love plays no part in the equation or so he thought until the beautiful Mirella Canalis came into his life. Now he must find a way to defeat his enemies and accomplish the impossible to save her but will he succeed? We'll see!
From the beginning until the end of this book, I couldn’t put it down! I was so absorbed in this story with Valentine and Mirella, the love she has for him and him for her was...PERFECTION.
We continue the story after the swordfight between Valentine and Dragon Sol. Valentine not wanting the same fate for his bride as all the other Blessed Brides tries to stop it by keeping his distance from her. However, heartbreaking it is, for him (and us to read his struggle) he knows in his heart that he would rather have a world with her in it than without. She doesn’t understand why he is keeping his distance and she thinks he doesn’t want her, she doesn't know the fate of a Blessed Bride. She loves him so much and all she wants to do is please him. If she only knew the reason why he really keeps his distance. Life at Lobo Mansion for Mirella is lonely, all she wants is her husband by her side, in her bed and spending much needed time together.
The enemies Valentine has continue to threaten his life and the life of his mate. Some enemies can been seen and some hide in the shadows. Will those in the shadows step out? They most definitely go after his mate and it’s the biggest mistake they could have made.
There is usually a villain in a great story and this is one that you won’t soon forget, trust me you will hate her just as much as I do! Not even gonna say her name! Lol, just glad she finally gets dealt with (eventually).
Tablet gripping, full of drama and anxiety and passion and desire……..need I say more? I loved LOVED this book I read this in less than 24 hours…...I had to work so that sorta put a kink in my reading lol. But I highly recommend reading this!! Thank you Monica Le Porta for Valentine and Mirella’s story and Dragon Sol…...who I’m totally crushing on!!!
Living in a time when shifters were dominant over humans, both species had to flee an apacoloptic earth and now humans are at the very bottom of the food chain During a specific time, on the Fifth Moon a human is born and raised to be the Blessed Bride and bare an heir to the Master Lobo. Thus is the lot of Mirella Canalis, this is book 2 of the story of Valentine (Master Lobo) and Mirella (The Blessed Bride)
Valentine having almost lost Mirella realizes that it is more than duty and lust that pulls him to Mirella and now he fears what will happen to her if she gets with child, the shifter growing in her will eat her from the inside out....He starts to relive the pain he endured as a child with a father that couldn't even look at him and wonders that maybe just pushing her away will avoid the inevitable. Revelations will have him rethinking his plans for his love Mirella.
Mirella married the Master Lobo thinking she would have a loveless marriage, but it is far from that, she fell in love with him and thought she was taming the beast at long last, but now without reason he wants no part of her and her heart is breaking. She feels the love in him, but he avoids her. But Mirella has tired of being the submissive and will fight for his love.
In the meantime there is still unrest among the humans and Master Lobo has no idea who the Leader is. Could it be that he is closer than anyone knows, who is the Leader?
This is the second book in the series, The Fifth Moon's Tales, and the first one needs to be read first.
Valentine Lobo is at a crossroads within his marriage. He never realized how much he would care for his wife, Mirella Canalis, so much. With her life at stake if she gives birth he decides that it is safer to send her away in order to save her life.
Yet it is clear that Valentine's enemies are getting closer and Valentine still has no idea who is after him and his friends. When Mirella herself becomes the target, Valentine soon realizes how much he does love her and needs to protect her at all costs.
This book was amazing!! I was hooked from start to finish and I loved the conflicting feelings that the author was able to produce when you knew why things were happening yet you were still mad at why.
Valentine is just pure alpha and I loved how he really did love Mirella and that's why he was trying to protect her by sending her away. Yet at the same time you were super mad at him knowing how much Mirella wanted to be with him.
The plot against Valentine was great and I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes in the next book! The book ended on such a high note that you know something big is coming in the next book and I am wondering how long Valentine is going to keep Mirella in the dark about why he was trying to protect her!
Well I started this book and then didn't stop reading till I was finished ( I love it when I get engrossed in a book and can just sit and finish it - Travelling in a car all day helped lol)
The Blessed Bride of Valentine Lobo has a problem, her husband is sending such mixed messages that Mirella Canalis is getting mad with him, will she ignore the lifetime of strict protocols and up bringing and push for his attention or will she meekly accept his cold shoulder after the passion he has shown her. She is so confused at his see-saw emotions.
After almost losing his bride, Valentine Lobo is at odds with his wolf and the future written in the stars by the brotherhood and the previous Blessed Brides fates, a fate that no Blessed Bride has ever been told!
He loves Mirella, but is trying to stay away from her, but its too late, shes already in his heart and soul - hopefully he will fight the laid out plans for their future and forge a new path for them both...
Whether they find that HEA I will have to wait until Ms La Porta writes Book 3, but Heck what a ride this book was, we get to see how much backbone Mirella has, and how far Valentine will go to save his Bride.
One of my favourite series this year - roll on book 3!
This is the second book in Valentine and Mirella's story. If you have not read the first yet may I suggest you start there. I promise you will not be disappointed. The Fifth Moon's story is presented in a future world where shifters and humans co-exist. The book begins right where the first left off. Valentine finds that for the first time in his long life he would trade everything if only it would protect his heart- Mirella -from being ripped from his chest. Mirella knows something is not right but she cannot put her finger on it. (and I am not telling because that would ruin the book!) While Valentine does his best to find answers as to who is trying to murder his wife and sabotage the trade routes. Mirella is ripped from their home by rebel forces. Can Valentine find her in time? Can he protect her not only from his enemies but from her destiny? Gripping from beginning to end. I was given an ARC for an honest review. I do not give reviews if I do not like a series ARC or not... La Porta has the opportunity here to create an excellent series. There are so many intriguing characters within this world , that you can't help but want to delve deeper, to get lost in their stories.
Absolutely intoxicating! I was asked to read this book and give my opinion of it. I must first say that this book is the second book in series and I highly recommend you read the prequel first. Having said that I am blown away by how well written this book is. There is no awkward lead in from the first to the second it blends seamlessly and effortlessly. The drama and suspense is outstanding keeps you guessing and glued to the book. It is an excellent love story wrapped up in a wonderful exciting storyline with tremendous cast of characters and plots. A must read and Thank you Monica for another fabulous book.
Love Monica’s way of writing as it always grab one’s attention from the word go and she did not disappoint in the Fifth moons wife.
It’s a very emotional book where a little boy has carried a guilt bigger than his little shoulders can carry and unfortunately that same problem is rearing its head as his bride will come to the same fate as his mother.
As usual there is treacherous, violence and betrayal but it’s good to read how Valentine’s bond with Mirella helps them overcome the enemies.
Wonder is there is a follow up to find out if Valentine will find a solution to his predicament.
I received a pre-release copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
After reading the first installment in this series I was left wanting more. I was so glad when I heard this book was soon to be available! I could not wait to see if Valentine and Mirella would be able to continue where they had left off in the first book. And I wanted to know if Valentine was really ready to sacrifice his heir to keep Mirella from dying in childbirth like all the previous brides before her. I love the connection between these two characters and can't wait to see what happens in the next installment in this story!
I was given an ARC in exchange for my review. This book picks up right where the first one left off. Valentine and his Blessed Bride go through hell and back to stay together, facing enemies at every turn. The wolfs biggest battle is against his own desires as he trys to keep Mirella alive.Lots of steamy love scenes and intrigue leave me waiting for the next book. Do yourself a huge favor and read Valentine and Mirella's story , you will love it as much as I did☺
I loved the first book, as well as this one. I'm saddened that the next will be the final book, but hopeful that we will be treated to books about Valentine's friends, and their planets. The only complaint I have is how naive the h continues to be and her inability to stand up to her husband. Otherwise an excellent read.
This book picks right up from the first. I have fallen in love with Valentine and Mirella!
There's was a love that was never supposed to happen, according to Valentine. He had no intention of giving his heart to his wife.
Mirella was born and raised to be Valentine's wife and to give him an heir. That was where the story was supposed to end, unbeknownst to Mirella, and according to the history of Fifth Moon Wives.
But Valentine fell in love with his wife. And his mission is to save her life at all costs - even if that means not having an heir.
I won't say anything more except to strongly suggest you one-click this series!
Couldn't put it down. So much fun to read. Don't usually like books with descriptive sex but this was tastefully done as part of how much this couple love each other and the story would be diminished without one or the other wanting to be thrown against the wall every other page. But the actual story line is well developed and except for Rhonda who has been a bad girl since book one it keeps you guessing who is the bad guy.
