That time, she’d known nothing of magic until Gregory, her Gargoyle Protector, awoke from his stone sleep and saved her from demons escaped from the Magic Realm. They defeated the demonic Riven at great personal cost, one which forced them both to hibernate for months while they mended.
Healed, Lillian wakes to a world greatly changed, one where her sleepy northern town has been overrun by military, scientists, and paparazzi. Apparently, her battle with the Riven did not go completely unnoticed, and her actions put her Coven family at risk of exposure.
These new tensions unearth another concern. Lillian and Gregory may be one being in the Spirit Realm, soul mates in the most literal sense, but it does not guarantee a perfect accord here on earth, especially when Gregory’s clearly defined sense of good and evil urge him to eradicate anyone he deems as evil—which, to her dismay, includes a good chunk of humanity.
But their troubles are not limited to humans, not when another, older power rises from the ocean’s depths. Tethys, a siren of the ancient world, has her own plans for Gregory. For the first time in their many lives, Lillian finds herself at odds with her other half.
And if she does not master her own magic, this battle will become her greatest defeat.
Author's Note: Sorceress Rising was previously published as Stone’s Song and was part of the Urban Fantasy series called The Avatars.
The Gargoyle and Sorceress novels have a continuing story arc and should be read in order: Sorceress Found (prequel short story) Sorceress Awakening Sorceress Rising Sorceress Hunting Sorceress at War
Lisa Blackwood is the USA Today bestselling author of the Gargoyle and Sorceress Urban Fantasy series. She and her new co-author, S.M. Schmitz, are also embarking upon a new Space Opera Romance series. Book one is titled, Vengeance: Warships of the Spire. It can be found in the Dominion Rising boxset anthology.
As well as writing, Lisa is also an avid gardener, horse enthusiast, and dog lover. She grudgingly lives in a small town in Southern Ontario, though she would much rather live deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic old-growth trees. Since she cannot live her fantasy, she decided to write fantasy instead. Freya, her ever faithful and beloved hellhound, ensures Lisa takes breaks from the computer so they can rid the garden of cats with delusions of conquest.
Pretty much the same thoughts as Book #1. I've decided that wading through this is a waste of my time. I'm going to fall back on a tried and true "Christmas Tradition" and go back to my roots for some good old head-clearing stuff. Maybe I'll find something newer to grab my and hold my attention. Wish me luck.
I recommend starting with Sorceress Awakening, because Sorceress Rising continues three months after the dramatic ending cliffhanger in Sorceress Awakening. The background is important to full enjoyment of this book. I like the writing style, the characters, the storyline and the descriptions. These may not be to everyones taste, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and have continued with the next in the series, "Sorceress Hunting".
Lillian and Gregory have been healed of their grievous wounds, and the demon has been captured and contained in the hamadryad (who is now the Sorceress). Things have changed. Gregory places wards to protect and warn of Riven or other attacks. He, the fae and the Coven prepare for the Riven's attack while Lillian helps prepare for the Wild Hunt. But danger lies in a totally unexpected place, and is gathering power and knowledge: the ancient siren Tethys. Lillian's gargoyle nature asserts itself. She learns to shift and function as a gargoyle. Things become more complicated when Tethys tries to control Gregory to help her cleanse the Earth of the corrupting and polluting influence of humans, contrary to Lillian's more forgiving nature. Freeing Gregory from Tethys led to them breaking the Big Rule. The final colossal battle with the Riven climaxes with a cliffhanger.
Sorceress Rising is the second book in the series. This series you have to read in order and each book is a new chapter/part of the main characters lives. “Rising” was a great continuation from “Awakening.” I love the imagery that Lisa Blackwood portrays. I feel bad for Lillian that she doesn't have all of her memories, she has no magic, and she's trying to do everything she can to save her family and Gregory. She has to make tough choices (lesser of two evils) and her choice leads to consequences that change her relationship with her gargoyle. I loved the addition of her biological family, especially her younger brother.
The Sorceress has accepted who she is, even though she really doesn't know. She loves her Gargoyle (Gregory), who returns the love. Together they must fight the black magic being thrown at them. Lots of action in this story as they marshal the forces of good to fight the forces of evil. The gods do intervene when called upon. But there are still dark secrets, the easy one is that that hamadryad is really the sorceress. But what does that mean for the Sorceress? What do her actions mean for her and Gregory? Still many unanswered questions.
I enjoyed this book as much as the first. If you are a fan of supernatural romance, you won't want to miss this series. Having gotten the first book free, I bought the second. Gregory and Lillian fight the powers of the evil Riven and try to keep humans uninvolved. Th twist in the middle of the book, surrounding the night of the Wild Hunt was a bit off I thought, hence the four rating, rather than five.
Wow. All mush. I nearly got half way through before I gave up completely. I really enjoyed the first book. But this was disappointing. Only 2 teeny bits of story line And one of those was full of mush. She's turned into a week character that needs her charming muscled man to save her. Blah blah. I haven't written a review this bad. Keep in mind this book was republished in 2016. Maybe there was more story before 2016. Please do a rewrite with A story and give her back her backbone.
Gregory is a Gargoyle who protects Lillian a witch after defeating the Riven demon. After Lillian and Gregory have healed from their wounds and defeating the demon who is now placed in a container in the hamadryad (now the Sorceress). There are wards placed to protect and warn against attacks. Gregory and Lillian are soul mates and must defeat Tethys a siren from the ancient world from controlling Gregory to corrupt the Earth. I really enjoyed reading this fascinating paranormal fantasy novel.
Felt the ending was a bit rushed and not quite complete. Not a cliffhanger but a “wait what that’s the end!?” I’m not sure about the second book... I have a feeling it will be more about Shadow and less about Lillian and Gregory... I’ll read it anyway In hopes it answers some questions
Sorceress rising is a wonderful book. It is fast paced and immensely entertaining. The characters are well rounded and engrossing. I recommend this book wholeheartedly.
Author pulls you in quickly and never let's you go! From tender scenes to battle her descriptions aid your visualizations of the action and the characters. Exceptionally well wriien
Always a surprise reading. Love it and I will anticipate more surprises in the next book. Love your books and your ability to make a fantasy seem real. Thank you.
Lisa Blackwood continues this series with an enchanting story drawing in actual events sewn into the fabric of Lillian and Gregory's story. She creates a lovely tapestry that shows both intelligence and imagination.
Lillian and Gregary battle the lady of Battles and her Riven, an evil army in the earthly realm. The Siren Tethys seeks to attack th humans for polluting her ocean realm.
Multiple dangers, adventures and problems plague the two main characters. There is also the introduction of several new forces that must be reckoned with. With all the magical allies brought together as an army, they barely are able to hold their own.
Loved it. I was swept away in this thrilling and mythical adventure. Lillian and Gregory don't seem to be able to get a moment's peace before some new threat arises and they are off battling again. Definitely series you can get lost in as the real world fades away.
I really am enjoying this new series. This is the second book of the series. I never read this type of book, but. I do intend to read them all. I think others will enjoy this book as much as I do.
Barely getting time recuperate, Gregory and Lillian are faced with more trouble. This series is phenomenal and enchanting. I love the creativity put into the writing. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I loved reading this book about magical creatures fighting evil. Although some of the evil was only misguided it was still a fight. There was a lot going on within this book and i could not put it down.
Love tge direction e are gping with the gargoyle and the sorceress keeps interest up and now on to the next book with more exciting things happening to all of the awesome characters.
Lisa Blackwood knows how to write a paranormal series and describes the locations beautifully. I want to be in the maze garden with Gregory her gargoyle and Lillian the sorceress/dryad. Fighting constantly the evil that seems to permeate around them.
This book/series is aimed at the young adult but like micky mouse also appeals to the adult reader. This is an excellent story, just too long for one book.
Excellent continuation of the story of Lillian and Gregory. Thank you for sharing your imagination with us Lisa and I am now going to start the next in the series which is called "Sorceress Hunting"
