“You’re not evil. Screw what others say.” But he hated her fear. Hated it as much as her pain. “You be you, sweets. I’ve got enough evil for us both.”
Rose was changed into a vampire against her will when her boyfriend Julian Craig was attacked by paranormal hunters and she got caught in the crosshairs. She never knew monsters existed until Julian showed her his shifter abilities right before she died and was made into a vampire. Rose never wanted to be a vampire, an evil monster, and she wants nothing to do with the man who took her choice away from her, and so she ran away from him.
Julian is a panther shifter, who knew staying away from Rose was the right thing to do, but he just couldn’t ignore the way she made him feel, and it cost Rose her human life. But Julian couldn’t imagine a world without Rose in it, so he made a deal with the devil, knowing she would hate him.
When Rose becomes the target of a paranormal collector, Julian is intent on protecting Rose, to not let anything happen to her ever again. Because no woman has ever meant to him what she does, and he is monster enough to protect her from all the darkness in their world.
A gentleman would back away.
A devil would hold her tighter.
He knew exactly what he was.
I have liked Julian since the first book, and he was even better in this book. I love how protective and possessive he was over Rose, how much he craved her. And even though what he did was wrong, changing her without her consent, it was still incredibly romantic how much he loved her.
While I loved Julian right from the start, it took a long while for me to like Rose. Now I can understand her being upset with Julian for what he did and not wanting to be a vampire, but her automatic assumption that all paranormal beings were evil was at times upsetting. And while I liked that she didn’t want to hurt anyone, didn’t want to become evil, she did annoy me when her actions caused danger for her and Julian.
It’s been a while since I read the first book, so at first I was a bit confused on the time line, not sure how much times had passed between when Rose was turned and the current present, but once I got into the story the plot was very engaging. I enjoyed seeing Luke again and Julian’s wolf shifter co-worker and friend Rayce Lovell, who is very interesting. I’m looking forward to the next book with him and the angel they saved in this book. Luke’s brother, Leo, is really starting to annoy me, with his holier than thou outlook, and I hope he gets what’s coming to him soon.
I love this author’s books. And although I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the previous one because of my issues with Rose, I still enjoyed it, and I can’t wait for the next book. If you love PNR, Cynthia Eden is a must read.

"I shouldn't be here." She should be living a nice, safe, normal life far away from this madness. She shouldn't have spent months being tortured and starved. She shouldn't always be so afraid.
