The fifth and final book in the epic Chaos Queen series. “Perfect for fans of Daniel Abraham and Brandon Sanderson.” (Library Journal on Duskfall ) Nothing is as it seems. Sfaera-shattering revelations reveal there is more to the Nine Daemons--and Canta--than anyone could have imagined, and deep in the heart of Triah, a threat that has lurked below the surface for years finally rises, gathering unimaginable power. Knot, still reeling from a shocking death, tries to put himself back together in time to fight. Two ex-Nazaniin assassins, Code and Kali, form an unlikely alliance. Cinzia, more suspicious than ever of her sister Jane Oden--Canta’s prophetess--rallies as many people as she can to save the Sfaera from imminent destruction. And Winter, the Chaos Queen herself, realizes she must finally choose sides and face the greatest test of her finding the humility to seek help. Deep in the heart of Triah, a threat that has lurked below the surface for years finally rises, gathering unimaginable power. Only the unlikely alliance formed between the two former Nazaniin assassins, Code and Kali, stands in its way. Characters old and new join forces to preserve life as they know it. The darkest night the Sfaera has ever known is about to end, but whether it ends in daylight or destruction remains to be seen...
One of the greatest falls from grace I've ever read. A mishmash of convoluted and preachy pop-liberalism (coming from a liberal) that trivializes real human experiences and trauma. I personally don't come to the fantasy world to feel myself portrayed by the characters I'm reading about or liken my experiences to theirs in any way, but if you do skip this entire series. The offensive and unrealistic nature of Husberg's depiction of addiction and rehabilitation bothered me deeply. I won't even touch (more than this) on the religious aspects, which are intentionally amorphous throughout the series. Being a black man, I do not condone this depiction of race or racial reconciliation at all. I don't have the time to write out every way Husberg ignores the realities of race, especially in the context of American history. As for my verdict, I hope you don't start this series in the first place so that you don't have to ride this last book out til the end.
P.S. Dangerously ignorant view of feminism and womanhood ahead. But that's nothing new.
This series was very dear to me. The characters were so human like, almost all of them, complicated in a way with their own worries, own problems to deal with. I could really relate to those kind of characters because God damn I'm also broken aren't we all sometimes?
The world building is not the strongest attribute of this book because everything was established before but if I should judge a series than its good enough for shorter book.
The magic system I don't know I read around 30 books/year but this one seems to be quite unique. I have to point out clairvoyant battles really good job on those, the change of writing felt awesome.
This is definitely AN ending. If not as good of one as could have been. The various walls of text in the first part and chapters from random points of view felt pointless to me. I also found the battles somewhat obvious and in some cases lacking situational logic or consistency. But managing to finish a series is a huge accomplishment and I am open to reading this author's future works.
This was a bit of a disappointment as an ending. A series with some really cool concepts and ideas, yet it failed to deliver in some of those. Whilst most of the characters had interesting endings, some protagonists seem to just fizzle out, especially Knot. A character that appeared in all books and just kinda disappeared in this novel and had an awful conclusion. That said, it was overall a fun series.
The series was excellent, until the final book. I understand that stories sometimes take a turn that is different than my expectations. I may not like it, but the story will still remain "good". In this book, though, some of the main characters simply ceased in a single paragraph. It was bizarre to read about people for 1000+ pages, then everything changes with no real explanation.
Fantastic. Just fantastic from start to finish. I was worried that it wouldn’t end well. I needn’t have worried about that. One of my favorite series I would have to say.
