An entertaining, accurate examination of the mating habits of fifty common and rare species--such as elephants, bed bugs, and seahorses--describes behavior that is intriguing, startling, and sometimes bizarre
Really enjoyed having this one on my bedside table, picking it up, and reading a chapter or two at a time. I learned some well weird things about a variety of animals. For example, did you know that bedbugs are even MORE disgusting after you learn about how they “do it”? 🤢
What I liked about this book was also what I didn't like. I really appreciated the snarky remarks and very un-science like tone, I could even take most of the anthropomorphisms, but to throw around terms like rape when talking about bedbugs and skunks just seems wrong. I think that it's the author's background as a sociobiologist (worst field ever). I won't hold it against him- I've now got some pretty good dinner party conversations locked and loaded.
Fascinating book about how all sorts of animals, fish, insects, and others mate. Straightforward, sometimes droll humor, and not at all offensive (at least to me). Lots of photos. Ya gotta wonder what God was thinking when reproduction was being thought out. . . .
Ages 18 and up, not so much for what it's about, as the revelation that a school course in human reproduction is even more superficial than you suspected.
