Some BookShots leave the reader flying high, while others turn what might be an enjoyable experience into a free fall. Teaming up with Max DiLallo, James Patterson takes to the skies with this quick-paced piece about a man and his passion to uphold a family bond through the joys of flight. After witnessing their father perish in a fiery crash, Jack and Cole Flynn vow to keep his name alive. The elder Flynn was an air racer, perhaps one of the most dangerous activities with two wings. Racing through tracks and obstacles, the pilots put it all on the line every time they enter the cockpit. While Jack would like to say he has been able to make his father proud, that elusive first victory has continued to slip through his fingers. Additionally, the cost of fine-tuning a racing plane is nothing short of highway robbery. So, while he is still visited by memories of his father in the form of nightmares, Jack must turn to the other side of the law and steal private jets to make the money he needs to compete. Approached by a powerful gangster who has the act of fleecing the Flynns down to an art, Jack and Cole agree to steal these planes right out of their hangars. When the FBI starts to poke around, Jack must do all he can to divert their attention, at least until he secures enough to compete and leave the life. Staring down the largest heist yet, Jack and Cole must weight their options before things take a nosedive. Is a father’s legacy worth their incarceration? Patterson and DiLallo do well with this piece, which keeps the story moving and the characters believable. BookShot fans will likely push through this in short order, as it has some enjoyable storylines.

It is nice to see a successful collaboration return and find more success. Patterson and DiLallo have worked together before, producing strong results and keeping fans of the BookShot realm pleased with the end result. The story presents Jack Flynn as an ambitious man who wants to finish a task that his father could not, making him proud all these years later. The reader receives a little of Flynn’s backstory, a witness to his father’s fiery crash, as well as the burning desire to compete himself in one of the most death-defying competitions out there. Forced to sell his pride to the highest bidder, Flynn shows his determination, fuelled by an inner passion that will not let up. Adding a handful of strong secondary characters, the story unfolds and permits the reader to discover the support team that Jack has, as well as the one man who could make or break it for him at any moment. The story keeps the reader hooked for most of the arc, slowing down only in places to offer a change of pace. While not as riveting as some of the other pieces I have read, I am impressed that the story kept things moving so well and allowed the reader to remain in the driver’s seat (holding the yoke?) for the journey.

Kudos, Messrs. Patterson and DiLallo, for another wonderful collaboration. My BookShot binge is going well and you’ve helped to end the first week on a high note!

A story in to an area I had never even imagined in my wildest imagination, Stealing Gulfstreams by James Patterson and Max DiLallo has pushed fiction. I have never heard of plane thieves; it's not even possible considering all the International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations, but James Patterson tried it. (And not considering the plausibility of it is what I did not like; I like relatable fiction, and this is just for its sake.)

Two brothers, Jack and Cole, steal Gulfstreams and sell them to a criminal called Leon. Their father died in a plane racing accident, and they want to honour his legacy by joining the races. However, as it is with life, they lack money. They opt to get into the shady 'business' of stealing Gulfstreams and selling them to criminals.

The story is an adrenaline-pumping thriller with romantic undertones, more lad-lit because of Natalie, a racing pilot, who drives Jack nuts. And well, the poetic justice formula is there, as the FBI are aware.

Well, it is an excellent read/listen.

This 2017 novella by authors James Patterson and Max DiLallo is essentially a caper story. Participation in the air race as a tribute to Jack's father serves as a bookend and the romantic interest is a bit of garnish. I know this is a novella, but perhaps some of the Gulfstreams should have been left unstolen in favor of cleaning up some of the loose ends, or did the FBI and bad guys disappear after the unbelievable gunfight. Readable as a caper, but there are lots better available.

Quick adventure about Jack and Cole, two brothers who lost their father in a plane racing accident. The brothers want to continue their father's legacy, but are short on cash, so they get involved with Leon, a gangster, and steal jets for him. Jack and Cole meet Natalie, another racing pilot, and decide they need to get out of the theft business, especially after the FBI comes after them.
A quick read, with a fast plot. Entertaining, but not deep, which is what all the Bookshots are meant to do.

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is part of the BookShot series. I enjoyed it. In this book, Jack Flynn is an ambitious man who is trying to finish a task that his father could not. I really liked his characterization and backstory. His determination was something that I really admired. It was a fast read, and it was interesting. I thought it was an excellent addition to James Patterson's book. The format was well-developed and the ending was great. I can’t wait to read more James Patterson books. Overall, a great read.

2.5 stars? almost 3 stars?
This is one of the more tolerable bookshots.
As usual, super quick read.
I liked the relationship between the brothers. Jack and Cole, and the plot was alright.

SPOILER::
I didn't like how they got away with it all in the end. A little too easy if you ask me (then again, when you're limited to less than 150 pages...). But I guess there was emotional redemption that after such a traumatic event; he was able to win the race which claimed the life of his father.

If you are a pilot or dream someday of being one this book is for you.
If you can set aside the part about stealing personal jets to fund a personal ambition you will like it even more.
Story about 2 brothers who lost their father to his own personal ambition of X-treme flying. They want to follow in their Dad's footsteps and "make him proud" even though he died 13 years before in the same race they wish to win.

Patterson Takes To the Skies

After their father is killed in a plane crash during a race, Jack and Cole Flynn take to stealing planes, then selling them to Mr. Leon. But he doesn't pay what the planes are worth, the FBI is on their scent, and a beautiful pilot is getting close to Jack. What will happen? Will Leon kill the brothers? Will the FBI arrest them? Will Jack and Natilee find romance? Read it, and find out. You'll be glad you did!

Young men try to be like their father and one day one of his sons makes it to be the winner of the race. An interesting book about flying. A woman saunters into the fray and one of the men is smitten with her. A love story about flying and winning no matter what. Also about stealing planes to pay for their expensive habit.

Jack and Cole Flynn are pilots like their late father. And like him, Jack is determined to fly his plane in the air race held in Reno each year. But parts for the plane they are renovating are expensive so they steal planes for a Colombian kingpin. Now he’s cheating them and putting the pressure on them. They’ve learned the hard way that you can’t deal with the devil!

Patterson should be ashamed of himself. The story was ok, but it’s centered around planes, and he got even the most basic details horribly wrong! A jet engine does NOT have a carburetor!!!! He didn’t even do five minutes of wikipedia research! Whether it’s his own work, or the work of his co-author, Patterson’s name is on it.

Stealing Gulfstreams wins the worst read of 2021 award. A Cessna jet losing a top-of-the-line USAF fighter? A girl who shows up out of nowhere and knows everything about our main characters. No explanation of who she is, or how she knows everything. I

Snagged this as an audio book.
It was a quick listen at only about 3 hours which is to be expected for a bookshot.
All the story was solved but just didn't care for the story line.
