Brooke
Nothing about my life has been easy, but that hasn’t stopped me from living it. So when someone sets out to steal that life from me, they better come heavily armed and with an army close behind, because nothing short of nuclear warfare is going to stop me from protecting what’s mine.
When my mom gets taken, I set out to find her and missing pieces of a puzzle I didn’t even know existed start to fall into place.
I might end up paying the price for someone else’s sins, but there’s no turning back now. I’m far too invested in this now - in finding my mom, in untangling the web of lies surrounding me, and more than anything else, I’m far too invested in the sexy, secretive and seriously annoying man helping me.

As an ex-SEAL that’s seen and endured horrors the majority of civilians think only exist in Hollywood, I really thought there wasn’t much that could surprise me anymore.
Then Jack, my boss and closest thing I have to a dad, goes missing.
He goes missing on the same day a pint-sized little spitfire that makes waterboarding sound relaxing compared to her relentless persistence shows up. She shows up someplace she doesn't belong and claims to be looking for her mom, who was abducted the same day Jack went missing.
Her arrival starts looking less and less like a coincidence and more like karma looking to punish me for decades of sins I didn't even know I'd committed.
She fights me at every turn. Challenges me in the worst ways. And turns me on like no woman has before.
Not that I have any plans of hooking up with the nuisance who lives to make my life difficult. I'd have to be a giant dumbass to get into bed with her before knowing if she's friend or foe.
Apparently I'm a giant dumbass.

Cool heroine. I didn’t like the hero, there were things that bother me from this book, like how she let her mother get kidnapped. How she didn’t mourned the death of her mother or at least how I expected her to mourn her, how quickly she forgave her absentee father. How hero was a huge ass.
Let’s talk about our hero shall we?
Sure he wasn’t a manwhore, he didn’t make it a habit of hooking up with random women for casual meaningless sex, he also didn’t have any relationships, he was celibate for months before meeting the heroine but the way he was with her made me dislike him so much. Good thing the heroine didn’t take any crap from him.
"I don't know what crawled up your ass in the five minutes you were away from me, but whatever it is does not give you the right to push me around and treat me like shit. You want to push around a woman? Does that make you feel big and powerful? You get your rocks off on controlling and humiliating those weaker than you?" Vitriol and fury radiated off of me as I dug my knee in harder. "I've got fucking news for you, asshole. I may be small, but I'm not weak. You put your hands on me again, and not even your friends will be able to stop me from cutting off your dick and shoving it down your throat. Got it?"
He manhandle her. I just wanted to shoot him between the legs.
Anyway the heroine was no shrinking violet. I would have rate it higher if the heroine dumps hero’s ass.

Dear heroine,
You are so badass, so badass, so trained in self-defense and so excellent with guns, and yet...
*When assaulted in a bar, you do not show some of those self-defense moves to get the guy to unhand you, you just spray him and bolt (okay, maybe excusable, because a bar, people, the noise and the crowd).
*When you try to pick the lock, because well duh, you are so excellent at it, since you learned from the gang, got additional training from the cop training you, and yet you have no idea what you are doing with your super upgraded lock-picking kit, because you never had to do it in person on a real lock. How did you learn it then? By watching youtube? And was "the bad crowd" just your name for girl scouts selling cookies?
*When there is a big,strange, scary guy looming over your sleeping form, you decide that the best course of action is not to show that famous self-defense training, but to jump him, wrapping your legs around him and smothering him with you cleavage? Not even one punch? Kick? Just smother him with cleavage while humping him? Is that how cops teach self defense? Are you sure?
*When there are people shooting at you and you are being a smart ass and shoving off your knowledge (theoretical one,mind you) of guns, you demand a gun, obviously to look pretty, since you sure as sugar didn't use it for anything else for a looong time, just being a typical scared little damsel in distress hiding behind a guy. How very brave of you. So. Impressed.
For all your talk about being a badass and trained, and awesome, and whatever else you said that I wasn't paying attention to, because you sound like a wuss and a weakling, who is obviously delusional and thinks she is someone else- someone stronger, braver and not so deranged. May I suggest you do a self-analysis or even better - go to a shrink to help you with your delusions?

Dear heroine, I seriously dislike you... I am so very disappointed in you... Your thinking process is unreasonable and hard to follow. It is so full of self-pity, "I am so badass and so awesome" speeches and being such a pathetic cry-baby, it is disgusting to be anywhere near your mind, body and attitude. I do not blame the hero for not trusting you and being rude to you, because let's be honest here - you are annoying with all that empty talk, no stable personality whatsoever and your mixed-up priorities. I mean really... Your mom was kidnapped, but you spend hours refusing to talk to the people , that YOU sought out to help you. Furthermore, you did not even remember your mom for at least 36 hours. 36.hours. And it never crossed your mind to stop being a brat and either ask for help or at least try to escape? You weren't even tied to a chair in that kitchen. Your arms were only bound behind your back, you could have just gotten up, wiggled your arms in front of you, searched that kitchen where you were held and get a goddamn knife to cut yourself loose. THAT would have been what a badass would have done. You? You just sat there and did nothing. Like the pathetic damsel in distress that you are, who is more prone to being a crying mess, rather then being brave and strong, like you like to remind everyone all through the book. I am serious about you seeking a shrink.

Keep being vigilant. She is completely unbalanced and delusional. I suggest tranq guns. Also, when you are done with that pathetic excuse of a girl, call me and I will help you with digging a grave for her. She has to be contained. She is a menace to society.

this book is ruined because of you. There is a guy with a gun, you overpower him, but taunt him instead of shooting him and getting your BLEEDING and UNCONSCIOUS mom out of that shithole. Then you finally incapacitate the bad guy, but when HIS FATHER whose eyes look dead and who looks evil comes in, you frickin SHAKE HIS HAND? Are you insane?! It is too late for that shrink I mentioned. Just do the society a favor and die, so that you can never infect anyone else with your stupidity...Fudge-ing unbelievable that someone can be so stupid....

Brooke Jackson is just a normal woman. Brought up by a single mum. The only father figure a friendly ex policeman neighbour . He taught her how to look after herself. Little did she know just how important that will be.
Grant Masters and his team of special investigators want to know why a woman has broken in to one of their safe houses. With the boss missing any unusual visits are suspect.
An intriguing romantic suspense that will grab you on the first page. Our poor heroine is thrown in to a very dangerous world at the deep end. Our hero is so used to protecting those around him, he is never sure who to trust. The action never stops. Our characters never seem to have chance to breathe. Plenty of potential for many more stories. A very enjoyable read.

1.5 stars: Do you like cohesiveness, continuity, and logic in your plotlines? This may not be the story for you. There are so many plotholes that it makes Swiss Cheese seem solid, but hey, it did entertain me for a night until it just stopped making any kind of sense and went off the rails like an out of control freight train. If it had some (alot of) editing done and more attention paid to the details, it could be a decent action-adventure series. As it is, I can’t quite recommend it.

Brooke and Grant need to become my friends and be totally ok with it. I loved them! Their personalities and their relationship made me giddy to keep turning the pages. This was a great read with a superb romance with the right amount of suspense to keep you guessing and anxious to find out what happens. Highly recommend this read & bring in book 2!

This book was free on BookBub and I’m truly glad I didn’t have to pay for it. I would have been very disappointed spending money on it
The concept was great. The waffling back and forth from the heroine was annoying. Hero was likable, just enough conflict there. Heroine? Not believable, not overly likable. Her actions bespoke of possibly a teenager and not an almost 30 year old woman. Great tie ins and horrible decisions that, again, aren’t believable.
The climax (of the story, don’t get excited) was rushed and made no sense at all. None. Again, the heroines actions not only ruined the story, but resulted in something that would have been avoided and still made for a gripping telling.
The writing was grammatically correct and engaging. It’s the story that took too many odd turns and made an unlikeable MC.

“I didn’t want any of this, but I can’t help but hate myself a little bit.” Swallowing thickly, I forced out the words I could barely believe I’d admitted even to myself. “I hate myself because part of me isn’t sorry. If none of this happened, I wouldn’t have found you. And how twisted is that?”
This was my first time reading a Jenn Hype book and I have to say I really enjoyed it! The book was a quick read but it was loaded with suspense, danger and action not to mention a completely kick ass heroine and a broody, alpha male hero! Things moved at break-neck speed but the story flowed well and somehow managed to not feel rushed. I loved that despite all the danger and mystery surrounding our characters’ every move that the banter and perfectly timed humor from our characters ensured that things didn’t get too heavy. It was a great blend of drama, steam and humor and perfect if you’re looking for a quick thrill!
Brooke was having a bad night, first almost getting drugged at a bar then witnessing her mom get abducted then having to break in to a mysterious house hoping for answers only to fall asleep and wake up face to face with an angry and suspicious Grant Masters. After finding Brooke snooping around where she doesn’t belong, Grant wants answers. But the information Brooke provides only end up raising more questions, the only thing that Grant knows for certain though is that this pint-size spitfire is turning out to be way more than he bargained for. With their lives in danger, will they be able to uncover the truth about who is after them before it’s too late? Or will their growing attraction wind up being a distraction that could cost them everything?
The entire car ride was spent with me warring with myself over what to do once he finally stopped the car. Make a run for it? Shoot him? Rip his pants off and tickle his pickle?
It was such fun watching Brooke and Grant butt heads when she first turned up. Grant can’t resist helping a damsel in distress, but it didn’t take long for him to realize that Brooke was anything but a helpless damsel. That girl kicked ass and didn’t even bother with taking names. I loved her snark and sarcasm, even when things are going to complete crap around her. I know that some of it was just a brave face, and I did enjoy seeing bits of her more vulnerable side, but I really admired that she was able to remain strong and pretty level headed despite all of the crazy stuff that was thrown at them. She gave Grant a run for his money, that’s for sure, but I enjoyed seeing him fall for her as time went on. Yes, I know that their relationship developed at warp speed, but it was fun and sweet just the same.
I loved the mystery and all of the action that took place pretty much from the beginning straight through to end. A few of the things I was able to figure out but most of the twists and turns I never saw coming and I loved that it kept me on my toes. As I mentioned earlier, I thought it was great how, even in the midst of the numerous shootouts, the author managed to infuse just enough comic relief to keep things fun and light. There were a few heavier moments, but even those were balanced pretty well by humor. I also really loved the secondary characters, I would gladly read books about the rest of Grant’s team! Hopefully the author has something planned for them. If you’re looking for a quick read that’s action packed with a good dose of snark, sarcarm and of course steam, then definitely give this one a try!

Brooke and Grant. Grant and Brooke. I have no idea where to begin with this review, but these two are explosive. Brooke is kick ass and the type of girl I wish I could be. She's strong and something of a smartass--which I love in my heroines. Her first encounter with Grant isn't a typical meeting, but it's explosive nonetheless. Literally.
Grant is the hot, smoldering, strong, alpha, badass that every girl swoons over. When he first sees Brooke, he's intrigued. And not because she was this beautiful, gorgeous woman, but because she had just broken into the house his boss owns. Who was this girl and what in the hell is she doing?
Brooke has just had some serious shit happen. Seriously. Bad. Shit. Without giving away plot points, let's just say it's not good and she is trying to figure out how to make things better. Obviously, when you're down on your luck, you add breaking and entering to your to-do list. It's here that her whole life flips upside down.
Brooke meets Grant, Grant meets Brooke. After several near death experiences, these two realize something: they want each other. Oh, boy, do they want each other. And when they finally get there, it is hot!
I want a Grant in my life. He's all of the things mentioned above and so much more. I want a friend like Brooke. At least then I would know that if shit heads south, Brooke can back me up. Seriously. The girl can shoot. And fight. Grant is the same. I'm pretty sure these two characters are the same person, but the work. Oftentimes this kind of thing doesn't work, but in Baited Truth it totally does. The characters play off one another, they feed off one another, they mesh well. Baited truth was my first book by Jenn Hype and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing story. Ms Hype has given us a " Wow " story that will grab our attention from start until the very end, and then will leave us wanting more from his author. These two characters are so explosive and are quite interesting to read about, and the secondary characters are also really great. Ms Hype has really woven a story of action, suspense and some hot, steamy romance that wasn't like anything I've read so far this year. Baited Truth will have you on your toes as Brooke and Grant takes you on their roller-coast ride of seductive. Brooke was raised by a single mother, and the only male father idol she had in her life was an ex-policeman who was an neighbor. And he taught her how to take care of herself, but she really just didn't know just how important that everything was that he taught her. The great Master of the special investigators team wants to know why this woman broke into their safe house. But when he meets Brooke and with some near death experiences these two really realizes that they want each other ,and boy when that happens it's hot and spicy so watch out you will need some ice to cool yourself off. Brooke is one kick ass woman that we would all like to be. But Grant is the hero that saves the day. I could tell you more about this amazing story ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this story ,you won't be disappointed.

This is the first book by Jenn Hype I have read and I truly loved it. This book has mystery, action, romance, and so much more. Brooke is about to have her entire life turn upside down. Her mother is taken by some mysterious men and she is left to go to an unknown location. Things really get interesting for her when she gets there. Grant is the leader of a team who take care of things that can’t be taken care of by regular law enforcement. Their boss has gone missing and they need to find him. He finds Brooke at one of their safe houses and soon they find themselves under attack. Grant is going to help Brooke now that he knows she needs protecting from whoever is after her. But things aren’t going to go smoothly. Somehow her mother and his boss are connected. While they are attracted to each other neither one wants to be the first to give in. After all Grant is annoyed that she just doesn’t cooperate and do what he wants. Brooke thinks he is bossy and it would do him some good to be taken down a peg or two. Will the tension finally become too much for them? Brooke is spunky, brave, and sexy. Grant is a total alpha male, bossy and handsome. The rest of Grants team is fantastic. They are like a family and would do anything for each other. This book has a twists and turns throughout it and I hope there will be a second book. I look forward to reading more books by Jenn Hype.

Just when I think Jenn hype can't get any better she writes something like this! She is able to write so many different thing and have it flow like it's all she writes. She nailed romantic comedy, she kept me on the edge of my seat with romantic suspense and now this...... This book is romance with action thrown in and she NAILED it! She gets better and better with each book. I can't wait to see what else she can come up with! This is her 5th book in a little more then a year, and she is an author to watch out for.
With out giving too much away, this book has it all, but I'm going to talk about the budding romance. These two characters fine love despite everything that's happening. And I mean there is a lot of stuff that goes down, but in the end you can tell that they're perfect for each other.
This is the type a book that will keep you on the edge of your seats, tons of twists and turns, and even some heartbreak.

Wow! This book is amazing! Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Jenn Hype wove a story of action, suspense, and hot steamy romance like no other. Baited Truth keeps you on your toes as Grant and Brooke take you on a wild seductive ride. Brooke just seems to be your average girl in a bar trying to ward off the advances of creepy bar guys. But that doesn’t last long, she is soon fighting for her life and trying to figure out who is after her and how to save her mom who has been kidnapped. What could they possible want? Just when they come after her again a mysterious man shows up and they help each other out of yet another dangerous situation. This mysterious man is Grant and he is anything but average and he comes with his own security team. Grant and his team are pulled into Brooke’s problems after rescuing her – but why? Is there a connection that they don’t know about? If so, will they stay alive to find out what it is?
I can’t express how much I enjoyed this book. It had all those elements you want in a book. It took me less than 24 hours to read Baited Truth, but it took me a week to get process it all to write a review and I still can’t describe how good this book is ----- SO JUST GO GET THE BOOK AND READ IT NOW!

OMG this story will grab you from page one
Looking for a damsel in distress, one who cries at the drop of a hat and couldn't make a decision if her life depended on it? .... keep looking - this is not that story. I want to be Brook !! This woman is awesome.
"Make a run for it? Shoot him? Rip his pants off and tickle his pickle?"
This woman takes sass to a whole new level and you can't help but cheer her on. And then there is Grant, total Alpha male with the "skills" to back him up. These two together are like gas and matches, the explosions that result will keep you riveted. This is one action packed adventure ride that you not want to end.
This was my first read by this author, but definitely not the last

I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Baited Truth. I went in completely blind, only know what I saw on the front cover.
I'm finding it hard to choose my words without giving everything away. I read it in one sitting and was hooked from the very first page. There was something about Brooke and Grant that drew me in. Not only did they talk big game, they could back it up. More than once I found myself giddy with excitement and swooning over the romance.
Baited Truth is definitely worth the read! I was sad to reach the last page but couldn't slow down because I needed the complete story. My only hope at relief from this book hangover is that the author will write more about these characters.

I was given this book free for an honest review and Jenn didn't disappoint me again!!!! This book was pretty fast passed and I liked that a lot. You get action pretty much from page one and it keeps going l love out heroine. She is sexy, strong and sassy. Oh her mouth on her gets her into trouble and she knows it. That's what I like about Brooke. She has a soft side but she certainly pulls the big girl panties up and is one tough cookie! Love Grant. He's sexy and a strong hero. He has his moments with Brooke but he comes in and helps save the day. Love all the other side characters too! Great book. I believe this is my new favorite of Jenn's. Hopefully Alice and Hunter get their story. :)

Between the blurb and the cover, I was hooked and couldn't wait to read this book.
We meet Brooke who had not had an easy life. Not hard, just not easy. She was raised by a single mother, with an ex-cop neighbour being a father-figure. While he wasn't the warm, cuddly type, he did teach her how to defend herself and shoot a gun. Even though she didn't use the skills he taught her, he was glad to know she could look after herself should the need arise. The training made her a badass you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of. When her life went sideways her mother reminded her to go to the address the ex-cop had given her years before. So she did. That's how she met Grant. Since she broke into his boss' house, Grant assumed she was the enemy. So he treated her pretty badly. Grant was so hot that Brooke had a hard time keeping her distance. He was ex-military and part of a team who solved crimes the government couldn't.
I liked Brooke's skills and sass but there were times she went too far, making her sound more like a kid than an adult. I liked that Grant's training made him capable of handling just about any situation but I didn't like how closed off he was in the beginning. This story is full of suspense with someone trying to kill Brooke. And is steamy, too.
I struggled with rating this book. The first half was 3 stars but the second half was 4 stars. Then the ending left me with questions. So I'm giving it 3 stars.

A whirlwind of suspense, bullets and humour…
I couldn’t wait to dive into this book, having read (and loved) the Pretending series. This had a different flavor but was just as much fun! This is a few different books rolled into one fast-paced package. There was romantic suspense, sarcastic humour (my favourite!) and new love found while avoiding bullets. Lots and lots of bullets!
Brooke and Grant met under the wildest of circumstances and to say their first interactions were a tad rocky is putting it mildly. Brooke is a plucky heroine who I loved for her snarky attitude and unexpectedly gentler moments. She is packing mace, a gun and a forceful attitude that serves her well as she battles unknown enemies and her rescuers. Who doesn’t love that irony…
Grant, on the other hand, is no slouch in the take charge department as he shows his cool under pressure and matches Brooke’s push back inch per inch… He made me laugh and swoon...
In between laughing at their antics, of course.
“Make a run for it?” Shoot him? Rip his pants off and tickles his pickle?”
I mentioned whirlwind, didn’t I? It is in fact a story that spans only a few days but packs a whole lot of happening for such a short time. While the emotional punch wasn’t as deep as I might have wished for, the story left me a bit melancholy but happy at the same time. This story moved me and that’s exactly what I was looking for!
With interesting characters on both sides of the “good” line, I hope Grant’s team means there might be more stories? I sure hope so!

I have read ALL of author Jenn Hype's books and each one leaves me wanting more!! I love her unique style of writing, her sass, her sarcasm and her characters! She makes me want to be her - or at least be her best friend (hint, hint)!! You fly through the pages of her books without stopping because they are that good and you need to know what is going to happen next. She is on my top 10 list of best authors!
This story is the fast paced, thrilling, mystery that surrounds Brooke and her mother. Brooke has no clue who her father is and she was ok with that....until her mother is kidnapped, her life is turned upside down and at every turn someone is trying to kill her. She runs to an address that an old friend told her about before his death and once there she meets Grant. Grant is part of an elite team that is currently looking for their mentor/leader and all arrows point to a massive connection between the two events.
The reader will be on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen next while at the same time never wanting the book to end! You will laugh, yell, scream and perhaps shed a tear or two while reading this book - I would be wary of reading it in public because some of those emotions above will be loud and unpredictable! Sit back (for a minute or two) and settle in for an amazing story! You won't be able to just read this book once - as soon as you finish it you will be ready to start all over again to see what you missed in the first read through - and believe me as you zoom through you will miss some things that you will pick up on the second or even the third read!

I received a copy of this book exchange for an honest review. There was a lot twists and turns to this story. Brooke and Grant was amazing and their chemistry spark flames. Also the characters has good sense of humor love them. can't wait to read more books from Jenn.

Brooke trusts her gut in all things. She is independent and takes care of herself since it has always been her and her mother against the world. She also isn't afraid to do what she has to in order to protect herself and anyone she cares about....and she has the skills to do it thanks to a role model named Officer K.
This book starts out with action right away in Chapter One. That action continues nonstop throughout the book as Brooke tries to figure out what is going on, who is out to harm her and who has taken her mother. Along the way Brooke is intercepted by a group of individuals, with various skill sets, who at first seem to be her captors. Through a multitude of suspenseful situations her captors become her allies, especially Grant. Grant is mysterious, arrogant, insanely good looking and drives Brooke crazy! Of course she drives him just as crazy so it works both ways.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time as Brooke and Grant discover hidden secrets, fight an unknown enemy and come out on the other side completely changed forever. If you like action packed romance then this book is a great choice! I look forward to future books about the rest of men and woman introduced in this story!

I like when an author jumps into a story. No long set up just - bang - you're in the story and it is chugging along. Baited Truth hits the ground running and keeps up the sprint all the way through. There is constant action of both the vertical, guns blazing and horizontal, sweaty sheets kind to keep your heart racing and your fingers page turning throughout.
Our heroine, Brooke, is having quite the evening. Getting hit by a weirdo at the bar and a odd conversation with her mother is just the start of what will turn out to be a very long night. Enter Grant, our sexy and mysterious hero with his band of merry men and things don't look like they will be getting back to normal for Brooke anytime soon.
As always, Jenn Hype's female leads are smart, funny and very capable. Even neck deep in bullets and alpha badassery, Brooke holds her own and gives Grant a run for his money. Grant is the quintessential top dog, who didn't know he needed a wise-cracking, tough chick by his side until she showed up. Ms. Hype's stories are away fresh and exciting and suspenseful.
Baited Truth is a roller coaster ride of a read with a lot of action, laughs and steam. A great addition to Ms. Hype's library of works. It definitely wont make your limbic system want to stage a coup!

Talk about a book that will have you hooked from the absolute very beginning. This is the book!!! Jenn Hype did a wonderful job giving us a book that is packed with mystery, suspense, action, romance, and comedy as well. Not only that but there were parts in there that made my heart clench! I have never read anything by Jenn before by I most certainly will be on the lookout for more by this author.
You will LOVE Brooke!!! She isn't the type of girl to just roll over and give up or to cry for help. She does get help but she isn't going to just sit there and let everyone else handle it. She is tough with a vulnerable side she doesn't show often and the hilarious sarcastic side of her will only make you love her more.

What if your whole life was a lie and you had no clue that the people around you were living a double life. Well in this story there is so much going on the drama, action, passion, suspense, and romance. This story has a little bit of everything in it and it definitely kept me entertained till the end. Brooke and Grant story will entertain while also wanting to make you throw your kindle. The writing was great, the plot, the characters main and secondary held this story down and made it great. This story had me from the first word and I did not regret reading this story and made.
There were so many secret in this book and I’m glad all questions were actually answered throughout the book. I love the Brooke was a badass, funny and able to have a soft side. There was so many aspects of this book that I loved it just flowed so well. The action didn’t over shadow the chemistry between Grant and Brooke and not only heat up the pages it also keeps the reader interested in the story.

I loved this book so much! I've never read anything of Jenn's but it sounded great. I really love action movies so this was the best combination of action and romance. I grew up on movies from the James Bond series and Indiana Jones, so this genre was one I was super excited to read. There were times were you laughed, where you wanted to throw things, where you were panting, you got a little of everything. Those are all things we always ask for in a book! I love that it was almost fateful that Grant and Brooke ended up together too. Brooke is such a strong woman and she's so tough, it's really admirable. And Grant, he's the touch bad boy that all girls want. They make such a great team, working and on a personal level. I can't wait to read more of Jenn's work!
