The harder we try to achieve happiness, the more elusive it becomes. In the process of trying, we find we are working harder, longer, and less productively, creating not happiness but stress and anxiety. What can be done? In I Want to Be Happy , Harriet Griffey shows how everyone can achieve happiness, whatever their age, and whether or not they have been born with 'the cheerful gene'. From resting to having fun, eating properly to getting a good night's sleep, there's a lot we can do to improve our happiness. Happiness is characterized by the ability to take pleasure from life. But what comes first, the pleasures to be actively sought, or the ability to take pleasure from what is already there? The art of happiness rests less in transitory moments of achievement or acquisition, but a deeper, more contented acceptance of what we already have, cherishing those small pleasures that perhaps we take for granted and removing some of those self-inflicted barriers to happiness that wheedle their way into our lives. Happiness is not just about relieving misery, counteracting stress, or reducing it's also about protecting emotional and physical health by interacting more positively with the lives we lead.
I must confess - I borrowed this book from the library because I happened to see that 2 other people had done one of the how happy are you quizzes inside (their answers were pencilled in) and I was curious to see what their answers were! (It turned out that one of them was quite content while the other was extremely depressed to the point of being suicidal!)
Anyway, the book itself was a pleasant enough read, laid out in a very easily accessible manner that made going through it a joy. But the contents were not much different from any other "how to be happy" self-help book though - standard advice on things to do, activities to engage in, stuff to eat and so on.
Chcete nájsť šťastie? hľadáte jednoduché a funkčné odpovede? Máte radi roztomilé, útle knižky? Tak táto od Harriet je presne taká. Zaujímavé žlto bielo čierne ilustrácie na každej strane. Krátke kapitoly k rôznym oblastiam, ktoré zvyšujú prežívané šťastie. Plynulý jazyk a obsah vychádzajúci z výskumov. Niečo podobné akoby som chcel napísať aj ja. Kniha na pár hodín čítania, žiadny bullshit, a celkom k veci.
i love this book! it contains few information that i don’t know before and really love in the illustrations and compositions of this book. Very organized and very ‘art-sy’ book! gonna collect all of these kind of books🤪
This book is a very fine book. Some quotes put inside are amazing. The book is brief but very informative and its design makes me feel good and positive ☕🥰
There are many beautiful illustrations (the biggest reason to buy a book), content is easy to understand, minimal words suitable for people who rarely read or start reading
