3.5 Once again I find myself in Italy, with two of the most unique characters in recent novels. When a car full of first class passengers is found with all inside dead, Caselli, just recently back with her police Dept, is called to the scene. When ISIS claims credit for the deaths, Caselle calls for Dante Torres. Torres, not with the police, has a unique skill, fostered by the horror of his eArly years in captivity, of being able to detect clues from body language, and to put together things others do not see. This case will take them to places and people far and wide.

I love these characters together, though both are an emotional mess, especially Torres who needs a prodigious amount of pills to keep himself moving. He is also trying to find out who he was, who he beloonged to before he was kidnapped. This series has both elements of a police procedural, but also those of a thriller. The combination makes for a fast moving plot, while not forgetting key aspects of the characters. So in a way it is also a unique character study.

This case, and the back and forth was sometimes confusing, the connection sometimes hard to follow, but I found it intriguing. Also learned of a new syndrome I had never heard of, and I looked it up to see if it was factual. It was, but very rare. Did add an strangenessof depth to a particular character. This is z little more graphic in a few places than I usually read, but those section were easy to skin without losing the focus of the novel. The ending was carefully crafted so the reader knows without doubt there will be another addition to this series.

I loved “Kill the Father” & had high expectations for this sequel. The beginning definitely doesn’t disappoint. After opening with a chilling prologue, we switch to present day Rome where homicide Det. Columba Caselli is called to a crime scene straight out of a horror film.

A little tip when booking a high speed train into Rome: go steerage. Because no one is prepared for what’s found in the first class carriage. Who, how & why are the big questions & when ISIS claims responsibility, it makes sense. Sort of. Maybe. The city is in an uproar & when tensions explode at a local mosque, Columba is desperate for help. No other way around it…she needs the brilliant mind of Dante Torre.

It’s the start of a wild, violent ride that takes Columba & Dante on a fast paced tour of Europe as they attempt to hunt down those responsible. And along the way they uncover information that relates to the case that brought them together (first book).

This is one of those books where your enjoyment will be tied to personal preference & your ability to suspend disbelief. if you’re looking for a straight up graphic thriller, it should suit just fine

I really enjoyed Kill the Father & part of that was down to Columba & Dante. The story was incredibly complex & echoes of it are woven through this book as well. Unfortunately despite (or maybe because of) this being another fast paced thriller, I found the characters had stalled. There’s not much character development & the unique relationship between the 2 MC’s has cooled. Book #1 was an intense read but there were little moments of quirky humour between the two that gave you a chance to catch your breath & I missed that here.

I also had a credibility issue with Columba’s character. Because of previous events, she suffers from severe PTSD. The result is questionable judgement, emotional extremes & more physical trauma than a body should be able to take & remain ticking. I just had a hard time believing she would be allowed back at a desk job, let alone heading up a major investigation. Or even still breathing.

But full points for the ending. The shadow of the Father is always lurking in the background & the finale leaves little doubt that Dante’s past is not done with him yet. Highly recommend reading these books in order due to the complex & ongoing back story.

Just wow.

Completely different story and feel from the first book but still utterly captivating.

Took a while to read - simply due to me being very busy!

Fully recommend and cannot wait for the third book in the series to arrive

Kill the Angel brings together once more the really quite excellent duo of Colomba Caselli and Dante Torre – who now, after this novel, are two of my favourite characters in crime fiction..

This one, like it’s predecessor “Kill the Father” was a pacy, considered and intriguing thriller, beautifully paced and twisted as you like. Either one can be read on its own but I would recommend reading in order to see the relationship developing between the two main protagonists and to see the back story in detail.

I pretty much devoured this one – a train with a deadly cargo, a hunt through the city, leaves Colomba chasing a shadow, the “angel” of the title, with the help of Dante who has his own idea’s about things. Horrific realities start to emerge and our pair face danger at every turn. The Italian setting once more vividly described and fully immersive comes to life around them, this is occasionally violent but ever compelling.

With an ending that made me sit up and clutch my hair and an addictive and truly unpredictable mystery element, Kill the Angel is by far one of the best thrillers I’ve read this year so far.

Highly Recommended.

I decided to read this book (or listen to the audio version), despite not having read the first book, Kill the Father. I felt that it worked out quite well, despite this being the second book since you get information about what happened in the first book while reading this book.

One thing that I really loved about this book was the setting of Italy. The crime books I usually read is often set in the US, UK or Scandinavia was it great to shift the focus to a different country. I also loved both main characters, the fierce Deputy Police Commissioner Colomba Caselli and Dante Torre (a fascinating man with many skills, but also with a very tragic background). I really need to read the first book to get to know how Dante and Colomba met, and learn more about the case they worked on.

The case is elusive, mysterious and fascinating. I love the twist and turns the story takes and I particularly liked that the book managed to surprise me several times. And the ending, damn it! I need the next book now! Short review I know, but I don't want to give away anything of the story. Read the book, it's great!

On a side note, as much as I enjoyed listening to the book was it a bit hard sometimes to remember who was who. It got better during the progress of the book, however reading the book might, in this case, be preferable, although the narrator was very good.

Kill The Angel, the second novel to feature Dante Torre and Deputy Police Commissioner Colomba Caselli of the Rome police, is just as thrilling as the first instalment. The plot is cleverly thought out and the pace is quick, quick enough to keep you reading to find out what happens in the end. While it's not essential to have read the previous book it does help you to understand the recurring characters and their thoughts and behaviours. There is action and surprises aplenty and the intelligent and refreshingly original story makes up for some of the parts that drag a little, hence the four stars rather than five.

The main characters have the customary flaws that come with most police/detectives/private investigators in the crime genre, but I appreciated that Dante's behaviour was non-conformist, he does his own thing regardless of other peoples opinion - he is also quirky and becoming one of my favourite crime characters. Each of Dazieri's characters are well developed and interesting, especially Dante and the female serial killer. The author provides much misdirection and just as you think you've got it all figured out he pulls the rug from under you and you realise you were miles off! Complex, enthralling and one of my favourite crime reads of the year. I look forward to the upcoming books! Highly recommended.

Many thanks to Simon & Schuster for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve waited a few days to see how I felt about Kill the Angel. I really enjoyed the two main characters, Dante and Colomba, with their internet savvy and ball busting complementary package of sleuthing skills. But in the end, for me the novel just went on for too long with the plot’s believability diminishing with each further twist. The aspect of revenge killing resulted in an almost non-stop blood bath which was also a bit too much. I was left on the fence hence my three star rating. I think I should have read the first in the series, Kill the Father, before Kill the Angel to truly appreciate Dante’s traumatic background.

I'm honestly surprised I'm not hearing about this series more. When I read Kill The Father in January of last year, I told everyone not to sleep on this read. Now I want to reiterate the fact and tell you again, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS SERIES. Colomba is back and dealing with the aftermath of her last big case. People are starting to question some of her actions and when she's back on the next biggest case - a supposed terrorist attack by ISIS - she smell something fishy and calls in Dante to help her again. Nothing like having two extremely flawed characters who have been put through the ringer together back in action... and I couldn't be happier!

Dazieri does it again - builds a complex and intriguing multilayered thriller that hooks you straight from the beginning. I do think these should be read in order. I love it when a series doesn't spend too much time in later book explaining what happened prior - this way we get right into the meat and potatoes of this dinner Dazieri dishes out to you in heaps. However, that does require you to start at the beginning and lucky for you, dear readers, this is only book 2 so far, so there's plenty of time. Trust me, it's absolutely worth it and Kill the Father helps to build the characters of Colomba and Dante so you have a better understanding of them in Kill the Angel. While I do love both of these characters, Dante shines in this one. His quirks, coffee obsession and the way he transverses the planet just makes me smile. The star of the show, however, is the antagonist, this character they are trying to track down. WOW! Absolutely do love me a proper villain and this one delivers.

I think we'll be hearing more about this series soon and I cannot wait for Book Three because THAT ENDING.... wtf, Sandrone?! 👀😱

Thank you to Simon & Schuster UK for this copy <3

Wat een machtig verhaal! 🤩

Topverhaal, leest supervlot & dat einde! Omg dat zag ik niet aankomen! 🤯🤯❤️

After reading the first page, I was hooked, and it remained that way until the very last page. I always recommend reading series in order to maximise enjoyment; Kill the Angel makes several references to the first book, and I would go as far as to say, there is a continuing storyline there because the after-effects of the events in the first book are rippling through this one.

One of the great things about reading series, is the familiarity you already have with the characters. Granted, there didn’t seem to be a huge amount of character development in this one, but Colomba and Dante are such interesting characters, it didn’t hinder my reading experience in any way; but it’s my reviewer duty to inform you that the character development is stagnant in this one. In the first book, I struggled to pick a favourite, but here, Dante was my favourite of the two – he’s such as interesting character, he has a brilliant mind but lives in a constant drug-induced state to numb the pain of his past. Colomba isn’t without her trauma either, so if you enjoy reading about characters who may have recovered physically, but emotionally are still a wreck, this novel would be an excellent choice.

However, the most interesting character for me was one on the “side of evil” – this character was absolutely fascinating. The aftermath that ailed this particular character was something I haven’t come across before and I really enjoyed its originality here. I know I’m being extremely vague but that’s because I don’t want to give anything away.

Kill the Angel is most certainly a high-octane thriller. I love when an author has the power to seamlessly deceive the reader, not only does it make the plot unpredictable, but it shows its cleverness. This plot wasn’t as complex as it was in the first book, but it was still multi-layered and thrilling. The plot gets a bit violent at times, and the events that occur sometimes pushed the boundaries on believability, but that’s a sacrifice happily made for the entertainment factor it delivered.

Can we talk about endings? Because this one was brilliant and has me super excited for book three. Dazieri writes at a constantly high level, disturbing plots and complex characters, and a massive thank you to Antony Shugaar for providing the translation from the Italian. I highly recommend this novel, and series, to fans of crime thrillers that are dark in theme and psychologically intense.

*My thanks to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book*

I had high expectations for this follow up after loving Kill the Father. Unfortunately, I finished feeling like this one was missing something for me. I'm not sure if I can put my finger on exactly what I wanted more of, possibly the pace was much slower than Kill the Father and Dante and Columba seemed somewhat bland in this story. I was hoping their characters would've changed in either good or not so good ways but they seemed stuck if you will in the same behaviors as the previous book. I was hoping for something different. I still absolutely love the way the author writes his dialogue, the interactions between characters are very realistic. For me, Dante's character made the whole book. I'm still rooting for him, he's still got his quick wit and sarcastic quality which I love. One of the shining points for me was also the Italian setting...I love reading about the different cities. I did very much enjoy the ending, especially the unexpected wow that the author leaves us with. Overall, I just wanted more from the story I believe.

Σε τρία χρόνια πάλι ναι;

Αλλά #Not

Ναι παρασύρομαι και εγώ άνθρωπος με ψυχή είμαι. Τι θέτε;

I think after reading Kill the Father and loving it, my expectations were set to high for this sequel. It had the same compelling first chapter that forces you to read on and the same two main characters that I adored but it fell short for me.

The main problem is that it was written in a different language and converted to English. It wasn’t translated very well. This left it feeling awkward and clumsy. It could have used an editor after the translation. I can’t imagine the same translator was used who did the first book.

The second issue I had was with the characters themselves. Dante, mentally broken from his ordeal as a child, seemed less like a suffering and yet persevering victim and more of a bumbling drug addict. Columba just didn’t act like the amazing policewoman she was in the first.

While still a good story, it isn’t one I would recommend unless it goes through a major edit.

4.5 stars!!

Colomba and Dante are back. Of course, they are. The way the first novel ended left absolutely no ambiguity about this. In fact as much as I don't care for series, I was anticipating this one and was very excited when it finally appeared on Netgalley. Mainly because Dante is just such a terrific character. Which is, frankly, why I sort of take umbrage to this being billed as a Colomba Cassselli #2 novel. She is so not the star attraction, even if she's set up as such, Dante doesn't even make an appearance until tenth of the way into the story. Thing is, though, Colomba Casselli is a fairly average (and actually kind of annoying at times in this book) tough lady cop and without Dante all this would be is an above average police procedural. Dante is all the ingenuity, flash and pizazz of the show. Together they make a great team, though it's now somewhat soured with the apparently inevitable sexual attraction, because apparently straight men and women simply cannot have a working relationship without that being a factor. Anyway...aside from all that, this is a sequel. One of those sequels you really shouldn't read without checking out the first book. And as a sequel it just isn't quite as good as its predecessor. The novelty factor is gone, the freshness level isn't the same, the striking originality is no longer quite so striking...the first book had plenty of it all, but then again that's how it works with series, isn't it...#1 draws you in, gets you hooked and then you follow along. So maybe the comparison isn't fair, because Kill The Father was awesome and not quite as good as awesome is still pretty great. Dazieri really knows how to engage a reader, the intricacy and cleverness of his plots, the way he mixes in facts and fiction and, above all, his absolutely terrific, singular, memorable characters (on either side of the moral spectrum)...it's all really top shelf quality. I loved that the author continues with secret psychological experiments theme from the first book, it's such a fascinating subject and lends itself to such wild speculations, perfect for this sort of a story. The pacing is so dynamic, it's tough to put down. Turned out to be a one day read despite its size and well worth the time. This really is exactly what smart dark psychological mystery thrillers are meant to be like and Dazieri isn't done either, in fact the ending of this one positively makes the first book look like a stand alone. Who will they kill next is the question. Enormously exciting, extremely entertaining, enthusiastically recommended. Thanks Netgalley.

I was so excited to finally be back in the world of Kill The Father! I haven't picked up as many psychological thrillers as usual this year, but I jumped on Kill The Angel the second I saw it appear on NetGalley! While it wasn't as amazing as Kill The Father was for me personally, I was still on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. And that cliffhanger tho...are you kidding me?!

Stay tuned for a full review coming soon!

The second novel in this ground-breaking series re-unites Columba Caselli and Dante Torre; possibly the most unique and mis-matched crime-fighting duo since Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander from The Millennium Trilogy.
A train from Milan pulls into Termini Station, Rome and it’s soon discovered all the passengers in the Top Class carriage have been killed by cyanide gas. A few hours later a video is released from a pair purporting to be ISIS jihadists who claim responsibility for the attack. The authorities seem happy to accept this explanation, however, Columba has serious doubts.
As in Kill The Father, Columba and Dante find themselves on the wrong side of her own colleagues, whilst trying to find the true perpetrators. Their investigations lead them to Berlin where they discover a link to a brutal prison camp in the old Soviet Union located close to the infamous Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
There is a violent finale in an old sports arena in Venice and, towards the end, a shocking plot twist. The ending is something of a cliff-hanger; not something I normally care for, however, it does suggest there’ll be at least one further adventure for Columba and Dante.
