Ro-nael Gatin, Deputy Assassin, must train this reluctant recruit quickly, for the country of Rupqer is growing more intrusive. Accompanied by other assassins, Ro and Ayl engage in many missions to push the invaders from Dugle.

Best Sean Crastien novel I've read so far!

The Invading begins at the scene of a battle, where, already the reader is thrust into this amazing world full of adventure, enigmatic characters, and lots and lots of awesome fighting scenes. We meet Ayl, one of the the protagonists of the novel, who is a funny, but rather confused rancher. He's sort of an outsider during most of the book because he's put into life as an assassin, a life that he's clearly not used to. I thought Ayl was the type of character to really grow on you because he has such a different way of expressing himself that many people would not appreciate, and frankly might find annoying. But I'm usually the type of person who finds these kinds of people really interesting. Ayl, with the help of the very likeable Ro, has to train to become an assassin and along the way, he's learning about friendship and strength.

The villain, MR, who is a super mysterious guy that no one seems to know anything about, is trying to conquer the Land of Dugle, and has been trying to do so for a while. The novel is centered around the assassins, who mostly include Ayl, Ro, and Chackel, leading missions to counteract MR's force and save the Land of Dugle from being conquered by MR and his army.

Something that's really unique in this book and I appreciate very much is the way the author describes the fight scenes and different kinds of weaponry. And who can forget about the magic element! Although magic isn't a primary focus in this book, the characters that actually possessed it used it in really awesome ways!

I believe this could have easily been a five star read for me if some of the characters were built upon a little more because I felt unable to connect with some of them. But when there's so many characters in a novel that is as fast paced as this one, I can understand how introductions and background can be a bit rushed.

Nevertheless, this book is great for fans of books with plenty of action and adventure. Seriously, it had it all: from the gripping descriptions of fight scenes, to the subtle elements of magic, to the hilarious banter between characters, and even the crazy ending that you will never for the life of you see coming, this book makes for a great journey and a definitely entertaining read! Can't wait for book two in the series to see what comes next after that cliffhanger.
