d6 (Caverns and Creatures collection 1) by Robert Bevan is a blast! I got the audio version so I could sit back and listen to the crazy episodes and just giggle and laugh and enjoy myself, a real treat! I love these books and use them as a stress relief. They are full of rude and rough jokes but totally funny! I wouldn't say that if they weren't. I had four boys and I have heard plenty of rude jokes, many not funny at all but these books are hilarious! I am an old lady but still love good crazy humor when I find it. Old not dead. Fart jokes never get old. The voice on the narration really adds to the story too. The way he does it adds character to the characters and it is terrific! I bought all the d series, can't wait to finish them.

I dare say I could listen to stories surrounding the misadventures of these lot forever. It never ceases to surprise me on how funny I actually find these stories. I had legitimate tears in my eyes during one of the shorts where Julian's naivety with Dragurs is in full throttle.

If I could make one request, it would be for the characters to level up in some of the stories. I am legitimately interested in the powers they can acquire in this world of Mordrid's creation. There is so much opportunity for content with the Bevan's idea that if handed properly, could go on indefinitely.

I pace these books out because I never want them to end. That being said, I am already looking forward to the next set of shorts which thankfully is already available! Keep em' coming Bevan!

Entertaining fantasy world 🌎 listening 🎶🔰

This kindle e-book box 📦 set is from my Kindle Unlimited account one of nine

I listened 🎶 to these individually each story is different with interesting characters lots of action, misdirection, misdirection and violence leading to each conclusion as the boys 👦 are on adventures.

I would highly recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of fantasy world 🌐 adventure thriller action novels 👍🔰 2025 😮😕

These are always a fun time

All the entire everythings of caverns & Creatures are good times. The short stories are a great bonus. In this collection all the stories are exactly what we expect from C&C (see below for more on that) and the final is particularly great, possibly the best bit in the whole C&C world thus far (tho I've not read the other short story collections yet, and thankfully after the 7th main book just finished Beven isn't done )
I've always like fantasy, and a good game-come-to-life story is almost the next best thing after Narnia. ( I think I discovered the Sword and the Chain series a coupcough ahemcades ago in high school)
I missed out on D&D back then, but started gaming a few years ago, so when that first stark closeup on a die cover popped up, it immediately caught my eye, and with a name like Critical Failure, I was intrigued; very clever. I'm not normally one for a lot of crude bathroom humor ... (could not stand watching more than half of super troopers) [ I bet if I introduced myself like that, Mr Beven would've said Skip my books] ... but i thot the tagline that was something like "Magic, monsters, dick jokes" was also clever and worth a try. I caught up to the author by about the 4th novel and have eagerly immediately bought& read each new one when they came out. Yes, all the "back cover" descriptions are true, the characters are terrible/ idiotic and ridiculous, there's lots and lots, nigh constant dick/ fart/excrment etc jokes comments and imagery that is often cringe worthy.....
And that cleverness in the cover extends through every single page, so somehow I find these silly ,funny, crude ridiculous stories totally engaging. The characters all have plenty of bad/dumb moments, but they each also have some good wins and we find ourselves rooting for the team (thank goodness for the girls). And I really want to know what happens next! (because this is also a good well spun yarn of a fantasy) But then I get to the end of the book and Gah, gotta wait.
But no, for both his and our benefits Bevan has been writing lots of these short story side adventures, and even better - clumping them into these nice sized collections.
It's brilliant! For those caught up to the author, we get some more fun while we await the next major installment, and if anyone was curious about C&C but hesitant to start a long on-going series these are an ok peek... (well, if you are the type to wonder where these people came from and why they act this way, they'd make a little more sense after reading Crit Fail). And thanks to the faq I learned it doesn't matter the order, & they are grouped in the D# collections )
Also, I am always a fan of extra side stories to bigger series, from star wars to Dresden to a dick obsessed bunch of dumbasses, it's a delight to get these little extras . So thank you Mr B and I'm off to get Dnext

Less then average short stories I think suffered from just not having enough time to build up the jokes, world or expand on any character.

The plots were all very 'side quest/side adventure' moments that I wouldn't have minded if they were a bit more interesting other then repetitive fetch quests or escape scenes. The plot jumps right into one of the two immediately without much buildup due to short length which just causes it to be difficult to attach to what's going on. I felt like it needed to slow down because you blink and it feels over.

I liked some of the goofy moments and the humor remains very much for me but I just couldn't get too much enjoyment out of anything before each story just ends so suddenly and not much to any consequence or addition to the maim series.
Overall this feels like first attempts at short stories and I hope the next batch improve.

The main series definetly remains my personal favorite and you can see the writing get better and better with each book, maybe these short stories improve as well along with the main series.

This is a collection of short stories based on the Caverns and Creatures world. In order to enjoy them you should first read at least the first Critical Failures book to understand the context.

Caverns and Creatures
A parody of Dungeons and Dragons. The book follows a group of friends that have been 'sucked/transported' into the Caverns and Creatures world. Each short story is effectively a specific 'quest/dungeon'.

Crude Humour
If you don't like your stories liberally sprinkled with swearing, banter, and crude jokes then this book is not for you.

Audio Version
This book is the type that I think works very well in the audio version. I have listened to all the Caverns and Creatures on Audible and it helps make the story that much better.

3.5 stars - because of the first stories

A collection of short stories in the C&C universe, as crude and horrible as the first installment in the series.
What started as a promotion for the series by the writer (according to his blog, he intended the first short story to be a free teaser/introduction for the main series) got life of its own, and this can actually noticable - the first couple of stories are very short, and didn't quite hit it for me. But the last couple were extremely fun and rich - what a "C&C" adventure is all about. With dick jokes.

A fun read, and if you look carefuly there are some cool insights to be seen. Me like.

Bevan’s first collection of short stories in his Caverns and Creatures series is a lot of fun both for anyone who has enjoyed the series thus far and for anyone who likes roleplaying games in general. I don’t think you need to have read the series to enjoy these tales. They take the form of fairly classic D&D style adventures. None of them are particularly memorable, and yet each was a lot of fun as I listened to it. If you like roleplaying games, I think you’ll like these too.

Do one thing and do it well

This is more of the same as the Caverns and Creatures novels, just in short story form. It's entertaining in its juvenile, crude, and crass way. Don't expect sophistication, high brow humor, or thrilling heroics. Expect plenty of fart gags, dick jokes, and cowardly, bumbling morons.

I thoroughly enjoyed the short stories that were crafted by Bevan. At any turn in the story I had 0 clue of the events that would transpire and the development of the story drops as often as Cooper's farts. Overall a good read and definitely something to do if you find yourself enjoying the Caverns and Creatures story or if you want to follow the personas of the characters.

I've not read any of these stories before, but if this vook is any indication, I really need to catch up. The stories in this collection are hilarius, a vit crude, short enough to wet the appetite and definitely worth hunting down more collections. If you like humor then you'll love these as long as you leave your reality filters at the door. Good stuff here.

My first DNF in a long time. I think the target audience for this collection of short stories is about thirty years younger than me and a lot less PC. There's nothing wrong with it, per se, but when people say it is "juvenile", they really mean it--we're talking 7th grade humor tops. I made it through two of the six stories joylessly and then gave up.

A series of short stories set in the pages of Bevan's Critical Failures series. Specifically, I would suggest they take place during the second book. Like any collection of short stories, some are better than others. I would suggest the collection to anyone who hasn't read the second book, Critical Failure II: Fail Harder.

Ok, I've loved all of the caverns and creatures books but these shorts were even better. Somehow Robert Bevan manages to make every story exciting, engaging, and hilarious all on one page. Can't wait to start the next one.

Awesome as always!

Since I've finished all the novel length tales, I'm now on to all the collections of short stories. Mr. Bevan doesn't disappoint! Mayhem and hijinks abound with a big BAM! of humor. Love these characters!

Decent set of one offs

Follow the main 4 stooges outside the city gates as they try to level up. There're leeches, drow, lizardfolk, and owlbears in addition to the usual idiocy this lot gets themselves into regularly.

Egads man

Yet another fun romp in the C&C universe created by Robert Bevan. As always just enough crude humor and a balance of violence to keep me reading. The stories were short and fast paced and I caught myself actually laughing out loud on a couple of occasions.

Another funny adventure story

What can I say? The tales of a group of delinquent, dnd geeks never gets old. Lots of very funny, bad jokes that the 12 year old inside every man can't get enough of.

If you ever played Dungeons & Dragons you should find this hilariously funny. Otherwise you will think it is all rather odd.

I enjoyed this book. These (D1-6) books aren't necessary to read with the series, but they past the time in-between book releases. These are mini adventure the crew go on while they're in the game. Very enjoyable.

The groups shenanigans in the Caverns and Creatures world are much more entertaining than Crit Fail 3 and thankfully the stories contain far less pedophiles.

Still funny and true to the dungeon genre with all the sophomoric humor from our heroes, and good depth from the NPCs.

Kindle Unlimited, the writer definitely isn't 'right' but he is on ku, a few binge readings were in my future.

Space Puppies
Flying Toasters - The DeadPixel Tales {one of collection of writers, seems to be permafree}

Not sure what the price is right now, but at one time was 99 cents for the collection, which is of course the 4 books listed above titled separately under the set. Never was much in to the game myself, but reading about it, well that's been more interesting to me. but started with the 4 then went on to the others listed but please NOTE: In my opinion, although they are almost of the serialized/shorter type stories, and overall maybe order may not matter, it is my suggestion to start with the 4 pack, then progress on to collections 1 2 3 and 4, and also note that d6 for example is listed as the FIRST collection, and they are given in order of the collections, with the 4 set listed next since reviewing the other collections. If using ku, the list for each collection should help not to pull up one that was in collection, too.
