Everyone loves to go on vacation. It’s been so long since Kara has taken one she doesn’t remember what it feels like. That ends today. Kara is headed down the shore to her friend’s house for the week and she is ready for relaxation and freedom. She doesn’t have a lot of that in her day to day existence. Work, school, and family take up all of her time. She needs this vacation, she deserves it.
Dan loves the beach. He is looking forward to a week of rest and rejuvenation at his cousin’s beach house. As a lawyer, he has a busy life, and after a nasty break-up he needs to have some fun.
Kara and Dan have an instant connection. When Dan’s car breaks down, he gets a ride from Kara and is immediately smitten. Who is this mysterious woman, and why has his cousin never introduced them? Dan is adorable, Kara is hooked. A little beach fling is just the thing she needed. Kara is gorgeous. Dan is smitten. A sexy beach romance is just what Dan needed.
The week does not go as planned.
Remember how it felt to have a beach romance? Two people suspended in time, quick, intense feelings, and warm, breezy nights. Tides ebbing and flowing, low and high. Dan and Kara bring those feelings back, with humor and some twists.
Jen Luerssen grew up in New Jersey and then lived for 20 years in the San Francisco Bay area. She has held various jobs in her adult life. Some examples are nanny, waitress, receptionist, dispatcher, caterer and finally teacher. She spent the past 8 years teaching 4th and 5th graders, until last year when she felt the call to write. It’s been plaguing her thoughts and dreams for years, and those thoughts finally fought their way out.
Jen loves to read, obsessively. She has an unhealthy attachment to her e-reader and is rarely seen without it. She’ll read anything, but especially loves a good smutty or a post-apocalyptic young adult book.
After “retiring” from teaching, Jen sat down and wrote a book and it was the most fun she’s ever had working. She is self-published even though she’s not sure how it works and hopes that people like her stories.
Jen is back in her native New Jersey and lives with her husband and daughter, enjoying suburban life.
This book is amazing. I loved it from the beginning, I laughed oh how I laughed, I cried oh man the tears, and I felt heart ache like no other. This book is a romantic comedy and just down right amazing. I can't say that enough. Kara is amazing, she takes care of her older brother who has a disability. She works, and goes to school so that doesn't really leave time for relationship. She desperately needs this vacation that her best friend has demanded she take to the Jersey Shore. On the way she picks up Dan her best friend cousin. Dan is a lawyer who just recently got out of a relationship. It ended in a bad way but he is glad to rid of her. He lives in his families home and is so excited to go on a much needed vacation. What he didn't expect was his cousins best friend Kara. They came into each other's lives like world wind of emotions. What was just suppose to be a relaxing vacation turned into the best time either of them have ever experienced. But when the real world comes crashing down on them Kara does the only thing she can and stand to the side and let Dan live his life. Dan and Kara's relationship is the stuff of fairytale. It was a world wind time spent on the beach. I loved everything about then. I do hope Suzy and possibly Sheldon do get their own book.
The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen is a romantic comedy with emotional levels set primarily on the Jersey Shore. Kara Whitman is constantly in motion taking care of others. A much needed vacation couldn't come at a better time when Kara's best friend, Suzy, invites her to up to the family summer home. Kara is asked to pick up Suzy's cousin Dan Fletcher and their chemistry and connection is undeniable from the instant they meet. Sun, sand and the sea breeze is on the menu and a budding romance is on the rise.
Jen's second book is a beautiful story of new love, loss and healing. There are times in this story that I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. The dialogue is witty and fast paced which reminded me of Gilmore Girls a lot. You can't help but fall in love with Kara & Dan and their journey. A second hit for Jen with The Tide is High and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next because I'll be first in line to read it. 5 Sandy Beach Stars for The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen
** still standing by my original 5 star review. Love everything about this gentle love story
**rereading March 12, 2020. I'm stressed about my parents and the coronavirus and trying to not give into the urge to buy more TP than I will ever need and i needed something good in my life so I thought of this book...one of my favorites of all time its like a hug...so I'm reading it again. No regrets...
Why this book has only 35 ratings I'll never understand. This is the story of Dan and Kara. It's instalove done right. They have immediate connection both physically and mentally. I don't like instalove based solely on lust, that isn't love to me and I don't like it. I'm old I can't help it. I also love the way the conflict isn't solved right away and it takes them a couple of months to figure it out. I'm also the parent of a special needs child and Kara's relationship with her brother brought me to absolute sobbing. I really liked Too Far To Care her first book and she certainly didn't disappoint with her second. 5 stars.
I enjoyed this book. I loved Kara, Jake, Cousin Dan, Suze. I didn't care for a couple of the characters. There was one part of the story that had me a blubbering mess.
Kara and Dan are two unlucky in love people, who both need a vacation away from work and their other duties. Thanks to some matchmaking from a mutual friend, the two end up together at a beach house. Immediately, sparks fly and their budding friendship turns romantic. However, a string of unfortunate events threatens to end Kara and Dan’s relationship.
The Tide Is High is a quick read, which I think works well with the plot of the story. Even though it’s mostly a fast-paced story, there are a few moments where the story is slowed down to showcase the drama and sentiments of the scene.
The story will have you go through a whirlwind of emotions. There are times you’ll laugh, cry, and feel frustrated. My favorite scenes were the humorous ones with Suzy, Kara and Dan’s friend. She provided plenty of laugh out loud moments, although sometimes they leaned more towards TMI.
I liked the story, and Kara and Dan’s backstories will pull you into their characters and root for them to find their happiness. This is a nice story to read if you’re into a summer lovin’ romance.
Kara is studying for a master’s degree and interning in a school called Unicorn. It was also Jake’s school – he’s the much-loved older brother who, due to a childhood infection, was mentally handicapped. Jake’s immensely talented and sold a lot of his artwork. Kara plans to work in Unicorn when she finishes school. Her mum abandoned them at an early age when it appeared that Jake was getting to be a handful to take care of so Kara and her Dad shared in Jake’s care. Kara’s childhood bestie, Suzy invites her for a week to their beach house. She hasn’t had time for herself lately and had been saying no for years but she needed fun and me time in her life so she finally accepted. Suzy started playing matchmaker and got her to pick up Suzy’s cousin Dan who lived in her suburb. It wasn’t exactly love at first sight but they were compatible in almost every way. So was a growing attraction between the two. But Dan was just getting over a horribly bad breakup. Was this going to be a summer fling or has Kara finally met her soul mate?
I really enjoyed reading this book. The setting was simple – a beach house: a beautiful perky girl, handsome boy, family and friends, snarky and mean girls and some spunky take no prisoners attitude. I fell in love with Kara’s character. She is selfless, loving, and generous and stands up for herself and goes for what she wants. Too selfless to a fault sometimes, thinking of the other people’s needs before her own to the detriment of her happiness. One of the most memorable lines in the book is when she says that people should not be given a pat on the back for doing the right thing.
I love the way the author described Dan: just a few inches taller than Kara and has the build of a swimmer. He’s so down-to-earth, respectful and not the quintessential alpha male. His swearing is a healthy amount, he has a set of non-dysfunctional parents and in a few scenes actually tear up. His character is human and normal in all sorts of ways and I think, a little bit introverted despite his law profession. He prefers the suburbs to the big city and is mostly a home body. He and Kara share a love of books so I definitely love this guy!
So one would think that they found each other and would live happily ever after? Before the best week of their lives end, a complication wrecks their newfound relationship in the worst way possible. They are both heartbroken. Dan seems confused and torn between loyalty and obligation and the love of his life. I admire that he never shirks on his responsibility for the family but as a lawyer, I would have expected him to reconsider his options. He seemed naive despite being burnt once. Kara was not any better in handling the complication either. This led to a rather longer journey back to each other.
This is a standalone novel that is well-written. Despite the simplicity of the setting, there was no boring moment. The dialogues between the characters were dynamic and well-paced and shows the true attitude of the characters. However, a few times I had to reread as a few dialogue tags were lacking and I wasn’t sure of the switch from one character to another. There were a few references to a Darla instead of Darcy.
The feelings and thoughts of the characters were realistic and I felt they were just my normal, next door neighbours, only genetically gifted by a notch or two. The story was written with alternating POV’s but it was seamless because the reader picks up the other’s feelings and thoughts on the last situation in the next chapter. Overall, I give this book a four-star rating.
The Tide is High is an amazing quick summer read! Jen Luerssen does an amazing job of telling a heartfelt love story that can be soaked up while you are soaking up some sun!
Kara is an extremely hard working and dedicated woman who is studying for her Masters in Social Work and takes care for her disabled brother, Jake. She hardly ever gets a moment to just breath and relax and she sue hasn’t had the time to just stop and take a vacation.
Dan is a lawyer who has just come out of a relationship, and just wants to forget about work for a little while, sit back and relax, and just enjoy life for once. Kara’s best friend is making her go on vacation and on the way pick up her cousin Dan. Fireworks and chemistry happen immediately! As someone who personally loves sarcastic and witty banter, I loved the communication happening between these two! I was literally laughing out loud throughout the entire story!
They finally reach their combustible boiling point but before they come together, the author throws in enough twists to leave you screaming and wondering which way is up! These two were so perfect for each other and I was literally screaming at them to get it together lol!
Watching them both go on this journey back to each, Kara finding confidence in herself to trust her judgment and risk getting hurt to go after what she wants was very heart-felt and captivating.
This was my first novel I have read by Jen Luerssen but it definitely won’t be my last! (Suzy better get her own story!) I laughed, I cried, I screamed, and I dreamed! The Tide is High literally has all the amazing facets that make this a great book! The next time I sit down to read this, I better be lying on the beach with a Pina Colada ;)
GREAT SUMMER READ!! This is a great summer read. Going to a beach for a week sounds so good to Kara and since her friend Suzy won’t take no for an answer, Kara loads up her car and takes off. Before she can leave Suzy calls and asked her to pick up Suzy’s cousin Dan because his truck won’t start. Kara lives a busy life with her Dad and her mentally challenged older brother. Kara loves being a teacher and caring for her family but it leaves her no time for a social life. She is looking forward to a week of vacation. Dan is a lawyer living in the same town as Kara but they never knew it. He has had a hard time with his recent split from his ex- girlfriend. So going on a vacation is just what he needs. He is excited for sun, surf and parties with the other couples that are going to be there. He packs his vehicle and gets in to leave and it won’t start. He calls Suzy to let her know and she calls Kara and Kara swings by to pick Dan up. This is where their adventure begins. Suzy is Kara’s best friend from their childhood. Suzy is also an attorney and has off the charts arguing skills. Suzy and Kara will have you rolling in the floor laughing! They love fun and are not shy about sharing experiences. Dan and Kara take off and it is like they were meant to meet. They find they have a lot in common. This is the best car ride either of them have had in a long time. They like almost the same things from movies to songs and foods. This vacation is going down in the books as one of the best ever. Until the ex-girlfriend shows up and blows Dan out of the water with her news. Now Dan leaves to go home and figure things out. He leaves a devastated Kara behind. They have fallen in love but will it last with all the drama in Dan’s life? Can Kara get past the horribly sad news she has to suffer in her own life? This is a well written book by Jen Luerssen! It is an emotional story! Any time a book makes you laugh, swoon and feel anger and then cry and all you want is the love to come back, for me it is a good book!
The Tide is High is a new romantic comedy novel by Jen Luerssen. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I don’t think it will be the last. The book was really well written and had me laughing from pretty much the first page. I encountered quite a few emotions whilst reading this book ranging from happy to sad and then laughing to crying – there were also a host of other emotions in between. This book certainly had its moments ranging from pure happiness to heartbreak and grief.
The book is about Kara and Dan. Everyone loves to go on vacation. It’s been so long since Kara has taken one she doesn’t remember what it feels like. That ends today. Kara is headed down the shore to her friend’s house for the week and she is ready for relaxation and freedom. Dan loves the beach. He is looking forward to a week of rest and rejuvenation at his cousin’s beach house. As a lawyer, he has a busy life and after a nasty break-up he needs to have some fun. When his car breaks down, he gets a ride from Kara and is immediately smitten. Dan is gorgeous and Kara is hooked. A sexy summer romance is just what they both need.
I instantly fell in love with the characters, Kara was just hilarious and her instant connection with ‘Cousin’ Dan was great. I suppose their relationship did start very quickly but I’m sure lots of holiday romances star that way. The other characters in the story were also great specially Suzy, Kara’s best friend and Dan’s cousin. There were definitely some great comedy moments between these three. There’s some ups and downs along the way but this book is a great romance story with a happily ever after. I think I would definitely like to go on holiday with this lot!
The Tide is High is a great, fun read and I found it difficult to put down once I had started it. It is definitely a recommended read and I give it 4.5 stars.
The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen is a standalone romantic comedy. This is the first book I have read from this author and I found it to be a fun, light-hearted and often comical easy read.
Kara Whitman is a preschool teacher, a student working on her Master’s in Social Work, and also has an internship at an art school that her developmentally disabled older brother, Jake, attends. Kara is very busy on a daily basis with all of these responsibilities, however she wouldn't change a thing. She's very close with Jake and has a positive, enthusiastic personality. Suzy, her best friend, has set up a week long vacation for Kara and a few others at her family’s Jersey Shore home. Kara is looking forward to a fun relaxing week!
Dan Fletcher, Suzy’s cousin, is one of the people also going to the Shore. Dan is a lawyer with a busy life as well, and after a nasty break-up he's ready to relax and enjoy the beach. He is also a positive, sweet, funny go with the flow type. He is patient and always tries to do the right thing.
Vacation day arrives and Dan’s truck won't start so he ends up meeting Kara who agrees to give him a ride. They hit it off immediately and feel comfortable with each other. Their fun, witty banter was immensely enjoyable! They also both feel an immediate attraction and end up spending a lot of time together with some pretty steamy moments! As the days go by they are both excited and happy to continue their relationship even when the vacation ends. However, the Author throws a few twists in that neither could have expected!
I really enjoyed this fun, sweet romance. Jen Luerssen clearly fleshed out the main characters, writing in dual POV’s so we get a peek inside each of their thoughts. The story flows nicely and the secondary characters helped move Kara and Dan through the emotional twists.
I gave this book 4 stars and would recommend for a light easy beach read!
The Tide is High is definitely a feel good vacation book. It is the kind of book that I can imagine taking to the beach with me and not just because a large portion of the book actually takes place on the Jersey Shore. One of the main characters, Kara, has a lot of responsibilities in her life. She helps to take care of her mentally disabled brother, Jake, she is going to school to earn her Master’s degree in Social Work, she is a preschool teacher, and she interns at the Unicorn School, a school that works with people who are mentally disabled like her brother. Her best friend, Suzy, convinces her to take a week off and join her on a week-long vacation at her beach house on the Jersey Shore. Then the is Dan. Dan is Suzy’s cousin. Suzy also convinces Dan to spend the week at her beach house. Dan is a successful attorney who has recently gone through a pretty complicated break-up, so this vacation seems to be just what he needs. Unfortunately, as he goes to head out to the beach house, he encounters some car trouble, but lucky for him, Kara lives in the same town and the ride to the shore together, hitting it off immediately. Sparks fly between Dan and Kara as the week passes. Life, however, is not always a beach-y vacation. There are some obstacles in the way of Dan and Kara being together. The main obstacle being Dan’s ex, Jillian. Will Dan and Kara find a way to work through the obstacles or will their beach fling be just that, a fling? This book is sure to give you those happy feel good butterfly feelings any good vacation romance would. However, there are also some plot points that are sure to make you cry. The author does a wonderful job at eliciting all sorts of emotions.
This was an amazing beach read!! It hit my Kindle, just a few days before we headed to the beach, and I have to say it was perfect!! Kara's friend Suzy is heading to the beach for the week, and wants Kara to come with her. In fact, she tells her she won't be taking no for an answer. So Kara loads the car up, but before she can go anywhere, Suzy calls and asks her to pick up her cousin Dan because he's having car trouble. Kara is such a sweetheart, between her busy life with her dad, and helping to care for her mentally challenged brother, she's a busy lady. She loves her job teaching, and would do anything for her family, but she is secretly so looking forward to a vacation. Dan (Suzy's cousins) happens to be a lawyer in the same town that Kara lives in. He is ready to relax and just take it easy for a week. Here's where the real fun begins! Suzy who is hilarious, makes a perfect best friend for Kara. These two characters really balance each other out in their friendship. Soon Kara and Dan find they have a lot in common, and seem to like the same things. They each consider this vacation to the best one yet, that is until Dan's ex girlfriend shows up, and delivers a blow to Dan. Dan decides he needs to go home, and figure out how to handle everything, leaving Kara there alone and devastated, trying to deal with her own heartbreak. Will their love last all the drama? Can Kara get past her own terrible news? This book was simply amazing, I felt so many emotions throughout the entire story that I didn’t want to put it down!! I fell in love with all the characters, they had such amazing chemistry.
The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen is the irresistible story of Kara and Dan.
Kara has been best friends with Suzy for years. They used to vacation together every year as kids. However, it has been years since Kara has been on vacation. She works a full-time job while juggling school and the care of her younger brother who has special needs.
Suzy wouldn’t take no for an answer. She got time off of work for Kara. She talked to her dad to make sure that her younger brother would be taken care of in her absence. Kara can’t say no so it is off to the beach for a much deserved vacation at the beach.
Suzy’s cousin Dan is also going, along with several other people. However, when he is ready to leave, his truck won’t start. Luckily, Kara and Dan live in the same town so Suzy pushes Kara to drive Dan to the beach.
When Kara and Dan meet, it is like they have always known each other. They are able to relax around each other, joking and talking the entire trip to the beach. It continues throughout the week as they try to ignore their growing feelings, especially since a sister of Dan’s ex is vacationing with them too!
As the week flies by, the two finally give in to their feelings. They both start to dream about a future together until someone from Dan’s past shows up and ruins their party!
The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen is full of emotion. You will get mad at Kara and Dan as they deny their feelings. You will feel so happy when they finally get together. Then, when they are torn apart, you will be very disappointed. Luerssen is great at making you feel for her characters. I couldn’t put this book down!
WOW just WOW! this book really through me and I loved it. This is the first book by Ms. Luerssen and I have to say I will be reading more of her work. This book was well written and very emotional that I laughed and cried I also wanted to B**** slap a few people. For a young woman Kara doesn’t have a lot of time in her day to day existence with work, school, and her family take up all of her time. So she needs this vacation, no she deserves it. So Kara is headed down to the shore to her friend’s house for the week and she is ready for relaxation and freedom and lots of fun.
Dan is looking forward to a week at his cousin’s beach house of rest and rejuvenation and some fun. As a lawyer, he works really hard, and after a nasty break-up he needs to have to have some fun.
Kara picks Dan up after his car breaks down and oh boy the sparks fly. Dan is wondering why he hasn’t met this amazing woman before. Why hasn’t his cousin ever introduce them? Kara can’t believe this Dan is amazing and she hooked. So a little beach fling is just the thing she needs.
Dan and Kars get carried away and their relationship starts out fast but they don’t have an easy go of it with a few obstacles thrown their way.
These characters are amazing they are well written and very developed Ms. Luerssen touched on a subject close to my heart so this story was really amazing. Throw in Suzy the crazy best friend/ crazy cousin and a few other quirky characters and we have a heartwarming and emotional story. I hope we can read more about Suzy.
The Tide is High is a laid back, funny, flirty, end of summer read. The beginning easily captured my attention and I just couldn't put it down. This is my first book by Jen Leurssen and I will be reading more from her.
Kara is in need of a vacation since it’s been years since she’s been on one. Her best friend Suzi has invited her to her family beach house for a week. At the last minute Kara is asked to pick up Dan, Suzi’s cousin since he’s having truck problems. Kara and Dan strike up easy conversation, agree on music and even start a little innocent flirting.
Dan is ready to enjoy some sun, sand, water and a few beers. He wants a break from the drama that is his life. He’s recently broken with his fiancé and is drowning himself in work. A week at the beach is exactly what he needs and maybe even meet a pretty girl to enjoy during his vacation. He can’t help it if that girl is also his ride to his destination.
The first half of this book is the buildup of Kara and Dan’s relationship. The stories they share are so funny and the foreplay is intense. The second half of The Tide is High is where the jewel of the story lays. I did not expect the turns of this book and it really took off for me. There was no way I was putting this one down until I knew the outcome of everything. The Tide is High is worth the time to read and allows you to escape in the world of Kara & Dan.
The tide is high by Jen Luerssen This book is fantastic! Such a roller coaster ride from the beginning.. Lots of ups and downs! But i absolutely loved it and I give it 5 stars. Kara’s busy life is focused around taking care of her older brother. Her dad and herself both take responsibility in raising him. You see, he's a 30 years old man, with the mental capacity of an eight year old. But he is the light of their eyes! They love and adore him to people's. They would do anything and everything for him!! Suzy is Kara’s best friend. They have been friends for as long as they both can remember. Well, since Kindergarten, they think. She is the life of the party, blunt and painfully honest at times. But she has the heart of gold. She would do anything for someone she loves and cares about. Dan is Suzy’s cousin. He is funny, caring and simply irresistible. He recently got out of a bad relationship and is just enjoying life. He wants to have fun and enjoy his summer. Suzy plans a vacation get away with some friends for a week long stay. And guess who she invited?? Well, Dan and Kara of course. Dan and Kara are instantly attracted to one another. Their chemistry is undeniable and hard to ignore. They decide start off as friends and see where it goes. But someone from Dan’s past comes back into the picture and turns his world upside down. Can Dan and Kara figure things out before it's too late??
“The Tide is High” by Jen Luerssen is a funny and charismatic read. Kara is a preschool teacher and is studying for her Maters in social work. She also takes care of her disabled brother, Jake. It’s been so long since she has been on a vacation, she doesn’t even remember what it feels like. Kara decides to change that, she takes off down the shore to her friend’s house for a week of relaxation and freedom. She needs this between work, school , and family, she deserves this. Dan is a lawyer. After just ending a relationship, he decides to go on a little vacation, to forget about work for a little while. He wants to sit back and relax and enjoy life for once. So he takes off for a week at his cousin’s beach house. Kara and Dan have an instant connection. Dan’s car breaks down and he catches a ride with Kara. He is immediately smitten. Kara thinks Dan is adorable and is hooked for the start. Both thinking that a little beach fling is just what they needed, but not all things go as planned. Will their beach romance end in crashing waves? Are they more then just a fling? “The Tide is High” was funny, hot, sad, and heartwarming. All of the emotions you get out of this book pull you in and won’t let you put it down. It’s a story about fighting when you find that one that completes you. Jen Luerssen did an amazing job and I would defiantly recommend this to anyone that loves a good romance.
Wow 5 plus stars This book took my breath away. When it started out and Kara and Dan were both going to the lake house that Suzy’s family owned and they ended up riding their together. They lived two miles apart and did not know each other except the time they met at the lake house when they were children. They cracked me up the whole way to the lake. They acted as if they had been a couple or friend all their lives. They joked and got a long great. Neither one of them suspected being set up by Suzy and at the rate their relationship was going they didn’t seem to care. They got along really well at the lake while waiting on Suzy to arrive. Dan had just been in a relationship that did not end well and Kara had been taking care of her brother Jake and going to school. The lake trip was wonderful until the very end when someone arrived to ruin their plans. They went back to the city and didn’t see each other. Kara was busy taking care of Jake and then he became ill and was in the hospital. Dan was trying to find a way to get Kara to talk to him. He knew that he had fallen in way over his head and would do whatever it took to have Kara. Amazing book. Loved every minute of it. I really like romance stories like this one. Glad I have another new author to read her books.
The Tide is High is a sweet and fun novel by Jen Luerssen. This was an introduction to this author for me and I fell in love with Kara and Dan as they let go and have fun on a beach vacation! Kara is an amazing character! She is fun, smart, and beautiful, but she is also extremely over-busy! Between work, school, and taking care of her family she has no time for anything else in her life! Thanks to her best friend who planned a week for Kara to get away and come spend some time on vacation at her beach house she gets to just get away! Of course it was just supposed to be hanging out, swimming, and relaxing, who knew that it could also lead to love. Dan a.k.a. "cousin" Dan is just getting started out being a lawyer, and dealing with the fallout of a serious relationship. Looking to let loose and forget everything for just a little bit he agrees to meet up with his cousins and their friends for a week of fun on the beach. She never expects to be knocked on his butt by the one who came to his rescue when his car broke down! This story is seriously a feel good story! Its sweet, funny, and just all around a great read. Its about how life can get crazy and what can happen when we stop and just enjoy the moment if even for a little bit. Sometimes we just need to slow down and have fun!
The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen was a first read by this author for me and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the dual POV of Kara and Dan. Kara is a preschool teacher who puts others ahead of herself, like taking care of her developmentally challenged older brother. She's working on her masters degree for social work and never has a minute to herself. When her best friend Suzy manages to schedule her for a week long vacation and getting everything with work and her dad all taken care of, she gets excited. When she has to pick of "cousin Dan" it gets better as the story goes on. Dan just broke up with his almost fiancé, Jill, and is looking forward to a vacation on the beach. When his truck won't start and Suzy sends Kara to get him, it's a dream come true as they're so much alike in many aspects. He loves making her giggle laugh and has a count going of how many times she does. This book took me on an emotional roller coater that I'm blaming entirely on being 29 weeks pregnant. I lobed these characters and the story they created . I won't say anymore as this needs to be experienced all on your own! I will be looking out for more from this author!.
Dan and Kara have met before but Dan doesn't remember because it's been so long. Kara’s best friend Suzy just so happens to be Dan’s cousin. When Kara needs a vacation and Suzy offers her the use of her family beach house along with her and some other friends and family, Kara jumps at the offer. Dan and Kara start off as friends and go from there. As this book goes along you know that their love is going to be one of epic proportions if it can ever truly start up to begin with. It seems like just as soon as they are able to start their journey together, they are thrown one obstacle after another. And while one of them is Dan’s ex Jillian, he feels like he and Kara can make things work, while she is afraid that she will be hurt in the end and tells him that he needs to focus on what is going on with Jillian at that point in time. By the time things are able to work out for this amazing couple, quite a few heartbreaks have been had and not just to them as a couple but to them as independent people as well. Kara has an amazing brother and father who she loves more than life and would do anything for and that becomes apparent in this book, and Dan would do anything for Kara, which is also apparent. I hope that everyone who takes the time to read this book enjoys it.
It's been years since Kara has been on a vacation and she needs a break from her everyday life. She's got school, work and helps to take care of her brother Jake, who is disabled.
Suzy is Kara's best friend and like most people who are best friends, they can't really remember exactly how they came to be that way. Suzy sets up Kara's vacay with her and Dan, Suzy's cousin. When they finally remember each other from childhood, they catch up on old times and quickly realize, they'd like some new times together. But sometimes, things just aren't meant to be and they settle on friendship. But even their friendship is holding on to a thin thread.
Being together proves to have obstacles for them, but they push through to get what they want out of life and each other.
I really enjoyed this book. It had some twists and turns that I definitely didn't see coming. Jen Leurssen knows how to write a romance with real life issues and this definitely isn't a cookie cutter romance novel. I look forward to reading more books by her. Hopefully Suzy will find love too and we'll get another great read.
This book was awesome. Kara is a very busy women and she doesn’t always make time to just be. Her best friend Suzy has put together a vacation that she will never forget. She plans to relax and enjoy her week. She didn’t plan on finding her soulmate or that he would accept that her brother was always going to be in her life. Dan was done with relationships after his ling time girl friend cheated on him. He couldn’t believe that Kara has been so close and they never cross paths. I loved this story it was playful and sweet. The flirting between them was so funny. I love that fresh love that new beginning love. Kara was funny and unique. She has such a positive attitude. I am happy that she had Suzy growing because it sucks being bullied. I love how she takes care of her brother even though it isn’t her responsibility. She gives so much of herself and expects nothing back. Dan is super cute. Like he hasn’t hit his prime but when he does he will be holy blue balls hot. He goes with the flow and doesn’t jerk around. I wanted to jump in and punch Jill and Christina in the face. If Dan needs a new women I volunteer lol.
The Tide is High by Jen Luerssen was a great 5 star read.
I really enjoyed this read. I had so many different emotions while reading: humor, sadness (ugly cry), and hotness.
Kara and Dan both are in need of a vacation. Dan is Kara’s best friends cousin and will be sharing the beach house with Kara. What they didn’t expect is the connection they would have while on vacation. These two were great together, I was laughing out loud at times. Can their connection last or will the real world bring everything crashing down on them?
There is a big twist involving Dan and an ex lover. I really struggled at this part my heart was torn in two. And of course Kara also gets some devastating news. My heart can’t take much more. I am emotionally exhausted after this great read by Jen Luerssen. I really liked Sheldon and Suzi also and I would love to see more of them. Are you looking for a summer beachy read then this book is for you.
This book will make you laugh out loud and almost cry at times. It is the story of a women named Kara who is very busy with school and work. She is also dedicated to her family. To relax for a week, Kara heads to her friends beach house to enjoy some relation and fun.
Also headed to the Beach is Dan. He is going to stay at his cousins beach house and is also looking for some summer fun. He is a lawyer and works very hard. He is in need of relaxation and fun.
Kara and Dan meet when his car breaks down. They have an instant connection and thus starts a summer beach fling. I enjoyed their relation ship and the time they spent together at the beach. This is a must read!
This was the first book I've read by Jen Luerssen, and I'll definitely read more!
One of the things that drew me in was the setting; I love a good summer beach romance. Kara needs a vacation since she spends most of her time working, getting her master's degree, and helping with her disabled older brother. Dan needs a break after a pretty nasty breakup. They meet at Kara's best friend's (and Dan's cousin) beach house and they spend the week getting to know each other. Until the ex comes back.
I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. At times, they came across as a bit immature, but as the story unfolded, they seemed to grow up.
A very cute romance novel set at the perfect place to have a romance-the beach. Kara and Dan are both invited by Kara’s bestie, Suzy to spend a week with her at her parents’ beach house. While neither were looking magic just kind of happened. I enjoyed the ease of the reading and the alternate points of view between Kara and Dan through the chapters. As a character reader I loved the book’s characters-funny and sweet. Since I have a teenage son I don’t mind the literal potty humor in this novel. For romance readers that want sex in their book, you’ll be satisfied. For those of you that want a good plot and backstory (and possibly some tears) you’ll have that as well.
Dan and Kara are so funny together. Their fast quips and one liners had me laughing so hard I was crying. I think Suzi needs her HEA next. Sheldon sounds like a hoot and I need to read things from his prospective too. Jake made me so proud, like he was MY brother. I cried buckets during THAT part. All in all, this was a wonderful, funny, sad, awesome read. When is the next one coming out?
I won a copy of this book, but I'm so glad I found this author. This was my first from her, but won't be my last.
Always a sucker for some romance and this book was set to my favorite place, Long Beach Island! A fun read that helped me escape during this quarantine and route for love between the main characters!!
