Jeannette grew up in a large family, number ten out of eleven children, eight of them being older brothers. She quickly developed a great sense of humor, mostly from necessity. One of her greatest joys is sitting on the porch where they were all raised and hearing the stories from years gone by. Quietly laughing to herself, she notices how they embellish the stories more and more each year.

Storytelling was passed down from her grandfather and mother. Jeannette caught the bug at a very young age. If she didn’t have her head in a book, then she was off somewhere with a notebook, jotting down stories of what she would write if one day she became an author. Although the notebook may have vanished, the stories are still vivid and waiting for the right time to be told.

Despite having an amazing family, there have also been some sorrows in her life, including the loss of loved ones. Over the years, Jeannette has spent countless hours volunteering for different organizations and acting as a caregiver to those dearest to her. As a result, supporting the elderly became of utmost importance.

As she approached a milestone birthday in 2015, she decided to take her passion for writing and blend it with her desire to continue to help others. As she writes her stories, she hopes they touch someone’s life. Within the layers of the romance, the foundation remains throughout and is one that is dear to her; make a difference in someone’s life each day!

In 2016 she met someone who encouraged her to push herself even further and try her hand at spicy intrigue. One year later she has four books in this new series and each one pushing her limits just a bit further.

Like the wind, Jeannette’s life changed directions several times over the years, yet one constant remains: her desire to leave this Earth a little better than when she entered it as she tries to live by these words, Make your mark on the world today as your acts of kindness is all anyone will remember in years to come!

Decent story with a semi-cliffhanger.

Casey Collins is a FEMA field rep who goes to a small town in Texas that has been hit by a tornado. Her job is to help the residents fill out the forms, but her struggle begins when she is forced by an injury to stay at the ranch of Derrick Nash, a man who hates everyone.

I loved the way the relationship between the two developed. Some might think that Derrick was way too harsh, but as the story unfolds, the reader finds out why he is that way. I loved Casey's character and loved how her inherent goodness shines through.

What I didn't like: That's why I called it a "semi-cliffhanger".

Finding Hope!!!

Derrick Nash never wanted to make a small town is home again after he went away to college twenty-four yeara ago. But after the lost of his late wife, Penny, and their daughter, Kim. He didn't had a choice, the ranch belonged to Penny's family with his own family gone, it was up to Derrick to make the ranch continued to be successful.

He knew the pain of loss so he'd closed himself off emotionally and just worked on the ranch. Derrick didn't care what people taught about him. On a stormy day, he rescued Casey Collins who had an accident on way to the High Hat Hotel in town. For the first time in five years, Derrick had been attracted to a woman.

Casey Collin was a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) agent who's duty was to help those in need when a disaster strikes. She was put on probation by her boss for getting to emtionally involved, as her probation was lifted, Casey went out on her first field assignment after her her probstion and got lost.

Derrick blamed himself for Penny and Kim's deaths...He couldn't forgive himself for choosing work over spending more time together on their family vacation. Casey went looking into what really Penny and Kim to try to make him see that what happened to his family was an accident.

One of Casey's brothers, Mark found his way to Texas and oh boy there were some fireworks when Derrick and Mark came face-to-face. No matter how hard Derrick tried, what he felt for Casey was as transparent as water.

In spite of everything, Derrick found himself unable to resist the pull he left towards Casey. He didn't thought himself worthy of such special woman until got justice for what happened to his family.

As fate put Casey and Derrick together, they both found out some interesting information about each other. Casey also found that they were more troubles than the damage left by the storm. She discovered a cover-up.

With the news that Casey might be in more danger than either of them realized, Derrick rushed to be by her side. He wasn't about about to lose another person he loved.

"Casey, I might not have realized how much I need you, but trust me, I know it now. It's been a long time aince I felt anything, neither pleasure nor pain. You've opened up everything I'd buried along with Penny and Kim." Touching her cheek, with the back of his hand he continued. "And I don't want to stop feeling again. I love you, Casey Collins, and I know you love me too."

SOUTHERN SPICE is the first book in Jeannette Winters' new series, SOUTHERN DESIRES . This was engrossing, well written and it pulled at your heartstrings. Mrs. Winters did an incredible job. Can't wait for the next installment.

This is book 1 in a new series. Southern Spice introduces us to Derrick and Casey. Derrick was born and raised in Texas met and fell in love with the love of his life Penny. They had a daughter together. Derrick was just starting out his career and didn't want to stay in Texas. Derrick left to attend a business meeting while the family was on vacation. While gone a hurricane hit and his family was tragically killed when there was a dam breach. Derrick shut himself off from everyone and became a miserable unhappy man. Blaming himself for their death that he wasn't there to save and or protect them. Fast forward 5 years when tragedy strikes Hopewell the Texas town where Penny's family ranch was. He kept it as it was the only thing left of her. Casey is the FEMA agent sent to help the town out. There is instant chemistry between them but he wants no parts of it and she doesn't understand what his problem is. Derrick is determined to prove that Penny & Kim's death was murder and Casey is trying to do her job and help the townspeople. Casey stumbles upon information that could help Derrick but at what cost. This story is complete with lots of anger, fear of the unknown and of forgetting, fear, lust and maybe even love. I don't think you will be disappointed with this book. I look forward to book 2 and following more of Derrick & Casey.

This is the first book in the Southern Desires Series and it follows Derrick Nash and Casey Collins

Meet Derrick Nash. Derrick knows the pain of losing loved ones is. Derrick is busy seeking justice or revenge, on who or trying to find out how his wife and daughter died. He doesn’t care as long as he finds someone pays the price.

Then meet Casey Collins. Casey's duty at FEMA is to help those in need when natural disasters strike. After Casey gets caught in a tornado that hits Honeywell, she finds there are way more problems than from just storm damage. Can she follow company procedures? Or will she let her heart rule her head?

Can Casey help Derrick move forward with or without the answers he’s been searching so long for?
Can Casey teach Derrick how to trust and love again? Or will Casey need to face the truth which is not every story has a happy ever after or ending?

Is it possible that Derrick and Casey make it through the good and bad times while they both fight their feelings for each other. Is it possible that Casey helps Derrick face the ugly truth when she discovers what has happened to his wife and daughter?

There should be an option for more than 5 stars as i would definitely give her more but have to settle for 5

Lost and found romance

The foundation's and storyline was all there but I didn't like the style it was written, sometimes it's as a third person and not the character. It was heavily detailed and at times got bogged down. It didn't flow evenly enough for me. her brother getting about in a helicopter was overused and a bit unbelievable.
It dragged at times and concentrated heavily on musings. The dialogue was sparse and it needed chemistry.
Shame, the back story and plot was there, I wanted to love it but it left me disappointed.
It needed an emotional connection.

This was a pleasant story with good characters. There were a few grammatical errors but not the worst I've seen. Derrick was a haunted man after the tragedy that he suffered and Casey was just the woman to help him back to the land of the living, especially as she was able to get answers through her job to help get to the truth of his tragedy. I look forward to reading the next instalment.

Southern Spice was an odd read. The characters didn't feel real and everything suddenly wrapped up in a nice little bow at the end. It wasn't the worst read ever, but it wasn't very good either.

This is the story of Casey and Derrick. Derrick who lost his wife and daughter in an accident. Or so everyone says. He doesn't believe it. He thinks someone is at fault and he won't rest until he finds justice for them. For the past five years since the accident he has closed himself off from people and he definitely has some survivors guilt. He should have been there with them and then maybe he could have saved them.

Casey works for FEMA and is in Texas to help after a tornado hit a small town. A town where Derrick happens to be even though he rarely comes back there as it is too painful for him. She has a few misadventures that have her lost and then stranded at Derricks during a storm. The two of them are attracted to each other, but can anything happen when Derrick really isn't over his wife and child's death yet?

Now this book was a strange read for me. You get a lot of the characters thoughts, but these thoughts didn't seem real. It was more a way to let the reader know some information, but oftentimes I was like why would he or she think this? It was odd. Also Casey hurts her knee when she gets stranded at Derricks and the first two days she can hardly walk on it without a lot of pain and then suddenly she is moving all over the place. Walking around and half running up the stairs and it left me confused. If her knee was that injured did it suddenly just heal? It didn't make much sense to me.

So yeah this was an odd read for sure. The characters thoughts didn't read as real to me, and the ending? Well everything suddenly is fine and dandy. Sure. Okay. Not the read for me.

My Review: I picked this book up at the RI Author Expo back in December, I always love discovering local authors to support there. I tend to really enjoy small town romances and this sounded like a perfect fit. We do get a nice taste of that small town, western atmosphere but I would have preferred more of it. I really enjoyed Casey's character, she was spunky but not overly so and had some nice room for development throughout the book. Derrick however was not my cup of tea, normally I love the dark brooding types but he was a little too stuck in the dark for me and made too rapid of a turn around. I also found myself a little too in the dark as to what exactly is going on in the background with FEMA reports, but I am hopeful that more of that will be revealed as the series continues. Which I do plan to continue the series because I am very intrigued by several of the side characters and can't wait to read more.

Once he had a strong grip on her bottom, he both regretted and was thankful he was still wearing the gloves. he needed to concentrate if he was going to pull them both out of the ravine by himself.

So, Derrick is out in a storm - a really nasty storm - and he sees a car that has gone into a ravine which is filling with water. Hero that he is, he promptly set out to smash the windscreen and rescue the woman trapped inside.

Now. Lets think about this. Do you imagine that firemen rescuing a woman in her nightclothes from a burning building have thoughts of sex? Or think about her skin? or want to kiss her?
Nope. And to be honest, I seriously doubt that any man in Derrick's situation would be thinking the same - unless he's a freaking sex addict or pervert. Meh.

WHY do female authors write about men who think about sex all the time. I want to read about REAL men, not those whose minds are inextricably linked to their penis.

DNF at 5% meh. MEH.

Derrick and Casey.

When disaster strikes a small Texas town Casey is sent out to help find out how to help the families who have had their homes destroyed. She has been told she will be put up at a neighbouring ranch. But on her way to the ranch disaster strikes again when a bad storm strikes and her truck goes over the edge of the road and rolls down into the ravine. Luckily Derrick is on hand to rescue her.
This story is full of emotions both happy and sad, but some people are lucky enough to find happiness to last a lifetime.

Spice and suspense romantic moments in time

Adult romance sizzling and spicy. Suspense clouds the whole theme and characters pop up from time to time to bring changes. Nothing's concrete in this captivating novel except page turning as fast as we can. I'm looking forward to the next novel indeed.

What a great story! There is intrigue, romance and off the charts chemistry. Derricks isn't truly living until Casey crashes into his life. Great characters. Can't wait to read the next story.

The story is to long and boring.
Some things are too detailed and depressing.
Hardly any conversation or growing relationships.
No chemistry or connection between them
And for a dead woman Penny was nearly the h.
She is mentioned to often.
I gave up after chapter 13.

Jeanette Winters - Southern Spice - (Southern Desires Series Book 1)

Derrick Nash lost his wife and daughter five (5) years ago, when they were caught in the path of a broken damn. Derrick feels guilt and agony when he thinks of them. Currently he is in Honeywell, Texas on his’s dead wife’s ranch he inherited. He hardly goes there any longer because of the memories. He has been seeking justice for them because no one will tell him why the damn broke in the first place.

A tornado came through Honeywell and Casey Collins, FEMA, is there to help anyone that needs assistance. While on her way to the Ranch that Derrick owns, her jeep slid off the road and Derrick had to rescue her before she drowned. Because there was no place to stay in town after the tornado, she had no choice but to stay on the ranch with Derrick. While helping the folks of Honeywell, and heard about Derrick’s family being killed, something didn’t seem right. She asked a friend and colleague to send her the files of the accident, all hell seem to break loose. When someone tried to kill her, Casey’s brother, Mark Collins, a Navy Seal and his team got involved after she shared the files with him.

Even though the pull is strong between Derrick and Casey, Derrick is determined not to move on because he feels he should have been there to protect his wife and child but he was “working” as usual, back in New York. As time moves on, their passion gets so hot that they give in, but, Casey knows it’s only for now because she can’t compete with a dead woman or his guilt.

When Casey slipped out and left, her vehicle broke down out in the middle of nowhere. Derrick is going crazy trying to find her, so he calls her brother Mark. Can they find her and then what? Can Derrick move forward or will he continue to continue to live in the past with his guilt? Will Casey need to face the fact that not every story has a happy ending?

A must read. This mystery continues to grow higher up the “chain” and carries over into the next two books. Don’t miss this one.

--Too much inner dialog. Some of the dialog should be used as the character speaking, instead of only in their head. I always have a problem when there is too much dialog. Sort of drives me crazy. However, I enjoyed this book and want to read the second in the series – Mark.

--I read every Military Romance series that are written by the best of the best, so, I have a question if it is realistic that the Navy Seal could operate this way? This would have made more sense to me if the series were Ex-Military from different areas of discipline in which Mark started a Security Firm and worked issues like this when the government can’t or won’t get in involved. In fact, he wants to do just that in the next book (I cheated). To me it would make more sense.

---I don’t do research, like the authors do when writing a book, such as the Navy Seals or other Special Forces, however, all the other dozens and dozens of Military Romance books I have read, these disciplines are always training if not on a mission. They don’t get 3 weeks off here and there to do constructions to help someone or stop and help their sister. It doesn’t make sense to me???

--If the dialog wasn't so prevalent, this book would easily be a 5 star.

This is another evolution to Jeannette Winter’s writing. I enjoyed the book so much I can’t put it down until I reach the end.

I enjoyed every character in the story. I like how independent Casey was and how firm she is in her beliefs. I like how she give her heart to help the people and not just do a job. And I like how she wormed her wy into Derrick’s heart.

Derrick on the other hand, was a bit stubborn but you can empathize with him after everything he went through. I also like how the people on his ranch played their part in this story. But most of all, I’m curious about Casey’s brother, Mark. What is he really up to?

I only have a couple of questions, like what does FEMA stands for? And also, there was an issue about the accident and I’m not sure if I just went past it because I’m reading too fast but I’m not sure it was mentioned what exactly happened.

Aside from this, I love Casey and Derrick and I can’t wait to read about Mark.
