The Brazen Boys are a collection of stories chock full of humor, steam, and feels you might not expect from such a short romance. Two things a story by Daryl Banner never lacks is depth and feeling. You will not regret picking up this set! Below are my original individual reviews for each story:
Dorm Game: Michael horny with a capital H, and has eyes for the too-hot-to-be-true guy in class. Andrew likes to be in control and play head games, leaving Michael more frustrated than satisfied half the time, and only letting his guard down on one drunken night. Even though Michael gets into the games, he can't tell if Andrew actually cares at all, and a guy can only take so much.
Dorm Game is a great quick read with an excellent balance of funny, steamy, and sweet.
On the Edge: On The Edge is everything Dorm Game is times 10. It’s funny and sexy and just plain hot, all mixed in with Daryl’s ever-present intensity that makes you forget to take a breath sometimes. I don’t know how he’s going to top this one, yet I know he will.
There a dozens of laugh out loud, awesome lines, but I think this one might be my favorite: “What a thing to etch into someone’s tombstone: Took a dip in the pool. Drowned on cock."
Owned by the Freshman: The thing I love most about these is Daryl’s ability to have you cracking up while getting you all hot and bothered at the same time. Fun, witty, sexy as hell - it’s all those things along with the thing that makes Daryl’s romances a cut above the rest: depth.
Dog Tags: Dog Tags just became my new favorite Brazen Boy. It’s smokin’ hot, fun, and has a few of those tender moments that hit you right where it counts. I think I’m going to go read it again.
All Yours Tonight: This Brazen Boy felt different to me than the others in an excellent way. Also, the dynamic between the two boys was different... fuller, maybe? While Daryl always does a great job of letting you get to know every character, in this one, even though it was told through Wes, I felt Bradley’s emotions so intensely that it was as if he was the MC. Intense is definitely the adjective for this story. I was constantly wound up and feeling all the restless, anxious, desperation of both Wes and Bradley as if it were my own. Even the humor is this one was different... manic even... the kind of humor one uses to cover up panic or grief. The mood of the story runs deep and strong throughout, gripping and climbing until reaching an utterly perfect ending. I can’t recommend these enough! Only Daryl Banner can pack so much into so few pages leaving you breathless and begging for more.
Straight Up: This Brazen Boy is chock full of laugh out loud lines that I think my push the others out of the top spot for the funniest of the series. This one is about falling for someone you can’t have which I think EVERYONE can relate to... heck, it’s my life in a nutshell. I love the ending so much. I really had no clue how it was going to go, but I’m not going to give away even a little bit... go enjoy it for yourself!
Houseboy Rules: Houseboy Rules was a great story and while I did enjoy it, this one was a bit off the mark for me. I read it twice, just to make sure I wasn’t just in a weird mood the first time, but failed to connect and was left wanting. It wasn’t the ending, I really liked the ending for everything the story was, but what it was just wasn’t quite right for me this time. I still recommend reading it. I DID enjoy it for the most part. It’s chock full of the humor, steam, and tension the Brazen Boys always deliver.
Slippery When Wet: This is absolutely my new favorite Brazen Boy and the perfect end to an excellent series.
I've related to almost every BB in one way or another with Daryl being a master at writing relatable characters, but Scott... I don't know how many times while reading this I cracked up saying, "omg... that's so me." I remembered my highlight feature this time and ended up marking over twenty passages that made me laugh hardest, hit me in the feels, or were deep and meaningful. It still amazes me how Daryl can get so deep even in these tiny little romances. (Like, dude, why you gotta dig there, you're killing me .... please don't stop.)
I loved this story so much. Don't pass it up.
Commando:
Commando is the follow up to Dog Tags I didn’t know I NEEDED until I read it. I knew it would be fun to revisit Jesse and Brandon, and it was, but it was more and left me feeling so completely content (and possibly a teeny bit teary eyed at the very end, because… awwwww *feels*).
Daryl Banner's MM tales are like doing shots instead of drinking cocktails. They're quick little drinks, there's no mixer, and they get right to the good stuff. They're seriously sexy and very witty bits of MM smuttiness. This box set packs a whole lot in (*cough cough*) and will definitely leave you buzzed.
I would say it was really more a 2.5 stars here, but I rounded up because I really liked On The Edge and Owned by the Freshman. But I will break it down a bit more in the following review:
Dorm Game: I didn't love this first one. The premise was interesting. Two college boys playing some BDSM-like "games" with each other. Maybe it was because it started in the middle of a "game" then flashed back to how it all started. I guess I was expecting to end where it started, but instead it ended with emotions and shit. Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was going to continue at this point, but I'm glad I did because some of these I liked a lot. But more on that later.
On the Edge: This one, this one I loved. Not sure what exactly it was about this one, but it was hot as fuck and I kinda wanted a longer story. I wanted to know more about the mysterious Edge. I wanted to see these two form some real connections past the smoking hot sex. And I kind of loved the dorkiness of Derek. Typing out a drunken booty call and accidentally hitting send, while handcuffing yourself to a chair...that is a level of dork I can only hope to aspire to.
Owned by the Freshman: This one was a surprise. I really liked the story though. I tried not to spoil too much, but I marked it as a spoiler anyways just in case.
Dog Tags: This was your typical Daryl Banner story. Two complete opposite guys bonding over sex and falling in lurv. I'm not exactly complaining as much as saying it felt very similiar to other stories of his I have read.
All Yours Tonight: Meh. I wasn't really impressed with this one either. More insta-lust quickly turning into a "relationship". While I liked the sex for hire-ness that happened in Edge, here it just felt like a random plot point.
Straight Up: As I review these stories I am starting to think maybe I didn't like much. This one was honestly the worst. The ending resolutions didn't really give any closure. I liked Charlie, but it felt like Benny took advantage of him and Charlie let him because he was basically friendless.
Houseboy Rules: This one was a little weird, and I can't say I totally understood the "poor rich boy" vibes the MC gave off, but there was a harem of hot guys, so I liked it anyways.
Slippery When Wet: This was one of the worst cases of instalove I ever had the misfortune to read. That sounds meaner than it should because I still read it...but I was rolling my eyes hard the whole time. Like they knew each other for like two days, and were going to not only move cities, but also live together. Yeah, that seems totally legit.
Commando: I would have preferred a sequel to Edge, but this one was okay. It mostly your typical new relationship insecure lack of communication that leads to strife that leads to hot make up sex on top of a car.
So overall, I would say, if you are looking for some sexy times with absolutely absurd "connections", then this book will work for you just fine. The sexy times were pretty great, no lie. My issue with Darryl Banner stories is never the sex but the connections. I like emotional connections and relationships, but these ones all felt like they were built on sex, not emotions or personalities. I shouldn't really complain though because even though I may not rate them very high, I have found myself reading a lot of his books. I blame the hot sexy times.
Sex trumps character development and I couldn’t connect with a single character. If you’re looking for porn on a page, this is a good series to buy. 2.0 for kindness.
I haven;t read all 9 books but what i have read so far is freaking awesome! Daryl Banner is a very talented author no matter what genre he is writting!!!
Dorm Games-5stars
I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Short,hot and awesome.
These three words is all you need to know about this book...
ohhh and of course you MUST MUST MUST read this one!
This book is around mind games and the relationship between two men. There is lots of teasing and touching and the book has some elements of Dom/sub but sex and teasing aside the book was well written and it kept me captivvated to see what will happen between the two. The ending of the book left me complete and with no questions and a sense of fullfilment. Daryl has excellent way of writing and if you haven't read any of his books or you are not into M/M action you can try Outlier!
Another great book by Daryl Banner with M/M action only thing is that its a shortie!!!
On the Edge-5 stars
I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review...
ddddddaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that was hot!!!!
I ove the way Daryl writes!!!!
These pages though are not about the sex with the hot guy... yes its an m/m book... There are so many things Daryl gives you to think over . A great book!!!
Owned by the Freshman-5 stars
I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.
The how not simple Daryl's books are always amazes me... Its never a quick story with hot sex scenes and something to pass your time...no no he can never make simple books and i am so damn glad about that. His writing is complex and it always gives you food for thought. Yes the sex scenes are damn hot and the writing is excellent and the characters well developed but always there is something left for you to think in the end.
A job really well done!!!
Dog Tags- 5 stars
Kindle Edition (edit) review I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.
A hot,steamy,fast paced military M/M story.
Daryl has the gift of being able to write magnificent stories that will get you all hot and bothered but also will make your emotions waltz around while reading his story.
All the Brazen Boys in one collection ~ doesn't get better than this!!! This collection is my introduction to the writing of Daryl Banner and he has made me an instant fan. His characters and stories, while very different in many ways, are still very similar in that they are filled with depth and emotion, which is something I need to draw me in and keep me interested. Each story in this collection pulled me in as though I was living it right along with the characters and feeling what they were feeling, and at times that was exhausting, because it was all very real, and I LOVED it!! If you are looking for something with ALL the feels, this collection is for you.
A MUST read collection for lovers of M/M romance/erotica.
I want to start by saying that I absolutely love author Daryl Banner!! His books are beautifully written and have me both laughing and crying and this compilation did not disappoint! I loved how each story was so different from one another.
Although each were great, I did have my favorites: -On the Edge with Derek & Edge - Dog Tags & Commando with Jesse & Brandon - Slippery When Wet with Scott & Hendry
My only complaint...I want more of their stories...an epilogue of where they are now!! I love these character's so much and am just not ready for their stories to end is all!!!
This collection of hot and steamy novellas is not one to be passed up!
Each story unique from one another, but every one of them kept me hooked. Page after page I found it hard to put this book down.
The main characters all had depth, a break from the quick fix shallow characters found in most novellas. Each relatable in their own ways. At times I could feel myself pulling with emotions as the characters dealt with their own conflicts and celebrated with their victories.
Not all the stories included are what I'd consider "romance." Some are cute (Slippery When Wet), some are porny (On the Edge) and some are on the edge of leaving me with an "ick" feeling (Houseboy Rules). A wide range of stories that should appeal to most m/m romance readers. Particularly happy with "Commando (Dog Tags 2)" which was on the verge of "ick" but then turned super sweet and porny.
This is a bundle of short sexy M/M stories. My favorites are Dog Tags 1, Commando: Dog Tags 2, and Slippery when Wet. All the short stories had great endings. I think Daryl Banner is the master of embarrassing hilarious situations. Once I push through the blushing and giggles I'm greeted with a stellar happy ending. I would always recommend his books and short stories.
This was actually my first M/M.. I know I know. But I love Daryl's writing so I figured I would give it a go. And I was not disappointed. This is a collection of really good short stories. Every one is completely unique and original with great characters.
There were stories in this that I really, REALLY liked. And some that were honestly just depressing and not to my taste at all. Overall, though, it still gets four stars from me on behalf of the really good ones.
I loved this series. Although stand alone stories, I enjoyed reading them all. Dog Tags was my favorite. Who doesn't love a hunky, silent army boy with a gorgeous cock that's hot for the boy next door. Very passionate writing that leaves some details and dreams to the imagination.
Oh wow! I love all the stories that were provided, but my heart really grabbed onto Dog Tags 1&2 just absolutely loved them. I can't get enough of the short stories that filled this book and hope there's more to come in the future.
I like Daryl Banner. I really do. I just don’t like the word/verb «cum». I don’t know why, but it makes me cringe. Why not just use «come»? It looks better, it sounds better, it is better. That’s it, really.
I like this collection of Banner's novellas better than his full length novels. They all managed to surprise me, some of them unsettling, quirky, kinky, poignant and some are just sweet.
This is a good fit for readers who crave steamy, emotional, and unconventional M/M romances that explore themes of self-discovery, sexual exploration, and the thrill of forbidden desires, making it a perfect choice for those who enjoy a mix of humor, drama, and passion in their love stories.
There's some great stories in this collection, the two military ones being my favourite, and some not so good. Overall it's an interesting mix of styles by the same author and I think some work much better than others. There's a couple I'm still not sure what the intended aim of them was and one which was just plain old confusing.
I felt like every story was missing an actual ending, like each one needed a really good epilogue, if not a whole dang sequel. A couple of the stories just didn't sit right with me even with the way the author tried to wrap them up with a short happy bow at the end, the Houseboy one in particular left a very sour taste in my mouth and the lack of a decent ending or epilogue didn't do anything to soothe me whatsoever.
I still gave this three stars though because, even with my grievances, the books were very well written with no spelling or grammatical errors and were very smooth and easy to read. I also did enjoy quite a few of the stories, I just wish they had more of an ending.
This is a very enjoyable collection of stories. I have previously not read anything by this author. They weren't all great,1 had me running down the road to collect my eyes after rolling them so hard, but the majority of them were good fun. In particular, I loved the catch up with Brandon and Jesse at the end.
I gingerbread a lot of m/m books before but I must confess I'm hooked. Kimball about the alpha male and that's definitely what you get reimbursed books. I really want more of Brandon and Jess from dog tags and man I'd give anything for a full length novel with Edge. He was definitely HOT! HOT! HOT! Can wait to read more from this author.
This box set is my first taste of this author and I can say he didn't disappoint. I have read other M/M romances and they all bring something different. These were all fun, short reads and I can't wait to read more from this author.....if I had to pick a favourite....it would be Dog Tags. If you haven't read these already, go one click them.
This series of novella's was my introduction to Daryl Banner's writing and I can't wait to read more of his work. He drew me in to each story, made me feel for the characters and left me wanting more each time, particularly with the Dog Tags duo (Dog Tags and Commando) I'd love to have more of Brandon and Jesse's story. The stories are interesting and had me hooked.
