Interesante.

This was a story driven volume with lots of character interaction and reinforcement. There is lots of dialogue with emotion and emphasis on being human.
A lot of times the ghouls are almost human in intellectual forethought, emotion intelligence, and the ability to feel.
I really enjoy this series because it's different. Thanks!

There was definitely more character backstory than actual plot development in this volume, but I’ll never say no to learning more about my faves. I was always curious about Yomo, so I was overjoyed to see some of his past with Uta included. Touka and Kaneki’s little reunion tugged at the heartstrings a bit, too. And the cliffhanger??? This cannot be happening 😭

03.12.19 Somehow I completely forgot the details of everything that’s taken place in this volume. I can’t believe I only gave it THREE FUCKING STARS on the first read. 😩🤦🏻♀️ What a dumbass. On the other hand, you wouldn’t get all the hints if you don’t know what to look for.
In this volume we finally:
- get the Uta/Yomo/Irimi backstory
- get the Yoshimura backstory
- get a glimpse of the final boss of the entire TG series (OHMYJFJSHU well done, Ishida, well done)
- (briefly) meet Koori, Mougan and Aura
- see the wreck that my poor girl Rize has now become
- find out that Takatsuki Sen is actually a very shady person
- see some cute Amon/Akira interactions
- get that Touka/Hide dialogue
- see Kaneki COME BACK TO HIS SENSES AND RETURN HOME TO ANTEIKU AND TOUKA
- find out that our beloved Anteiku squad is basically fucked
30.03.18 meh. this was quite boring tbh.

Vedremo come continuerà.

There's some good backstory on this one. It felt like a bit of a breather before the battle that's looming ahead.

Smart choice to slow things down and explore some fascinating backstories to set things up. Really satisfying interactions and reveals. 100% hooked.

I thought volume 12 was a captivating yet heart-breaking read - lots of things happen and gaps in the story are starting to be filled in!
- We learn more about Uta and Yomo's past in the 4th ward
- Sen Takatsuki interviews Amon and reveals who owns the experimental lab
- Shuu Tsukiyama gets closer to Hinami (I'm now really starting to doubt him again and question his morality...to be honest I don't think he has many morals!)
- CCG confirm that there are two owls!
- Kaneki is (briefly) reunited with RIZE!!
- Touka and Hide have a brief catch-up
- Chemistry between Kaneki and Touka?
- The One-Eyed Owl's identity becomes less of a mystery
- Yoshimura is discovered as assuming the identity of the One-Eyed Owl (Kaneki believes the Owl to be Yoshimura's child)
- Yoshimura reveals his tragically painful backstory to Kaneki and we learn his real name is Kuzen
- Kaneki agrees to go back to Antieku
- The CCG identify Antieku as the Owl's location
Only two more volumes to go! *cries*

Review for vol. 5 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
"Nec possum...Tecum vivere...Nec sine te.
I cannot live with you...nor without you."
(1)Some of Uta and Yomo's backstory is revealed! Yeah! That’s cool!
(2) The One-Eyed Owl and Mr. Yoshimaru's relationship is also revealed, this backstory is pretty sad too!
(3) Touka/Kaneki has some breakthroughs, yeah! I’m rooting so hard for these two dorky kids! I like the scene with them meeting each other and again!!
(4) Plus the weird Dr. Kano is at it again...
But everything is just the calm before the storm. *sob sobs*

Deeper backstory on the One Eyed Ghoul. We also get a lot of backstory of secondary character, flushing them out, making them more interesting. The ending choice with Ken as he decides what he must do begins to have grave consequences as the hunt for the Ghouls has begun. This is a middle bridge volume with one very badass fight. A 3 out of 5.

This volume clearly just served a transition to what's come. There's barely anything happening; just a bunch of characters reflecting on what they're going to do next. At least it ends on a high note, promising an epic encounter where countless key characters converge to one location.

This was a fun volume and felt like a breather! Its mostly like Shu taking Hinami outside and her encountering the author Sen Takatsuki again and she is writing a book on ghouls and has ulterior motives and she even meets with Amon and gives him information that changes his perspectives about something and then we have Ken realizing how wrong he has been maybe and learning from Uta about Arima and then meets Yomo and Rize in that condition and learning the true secret of Mr Yoshimura and that was quite awesome, and changes his character for the better1 Plus cool meeting between Ken and Touka and the big Anteiku vs CCG war is coming! Its gonna get even heated up and the art here was really good!

UTA FLASHBACKS!
I do not trust Shu with Hinami.
So the CCG is connected to the guy who was producing one eyed ghouls. To create super soldiers that can fight them?
Rize is gone insane from starvation.
Hide and Touka have reunited.
Touka never knew he lost his parents.
Wait the one eyed ghoul might be Yoshimura’s child. Holy shit.
Ukina taught Yoshimura how Kanji just like Kaneki did for Hinami.
“DON’T YOU EVER COME BACK TO ANTEIKU!!”
Oh, Touka….
Oh shit they’re going after the café.
Drunk Yomo is best Yomo.

The whole time i was reading it with a poker face till the last two pages. Now im stressed. But i feel its gonna be like EVERY other problem in the manga. We get fucked, then things are okay again but the cycle NEVER ends so you kinda never feel relief during this manga... yes the hardships get solved easily but they happen one after another. The weird thing is even though things have been happening since the start, explaining the plot is kinda hard??? Its a plot driven manga but the plot seems forgettable... i dont know man...

I have finished this volume, but the series is still continuing with 138 chapters + so I'm putting this "on hold" for now despite having "read" this volume as a reminder to myself!

i always love backstories and context when it gets added much later on in the story. if that makes sense.
also, if i was reading these as the volumes were coming out, i would be so pissed at all the cliffhangers 😭

Kaneki is finally coming back! <3
May 30, 2022
Kaneki has a talk with his previous Boss, that powerful ghoul who looks like an Owl and he finds out that all this time, he’s been copying his own son, a hybrid that was born out of him and a female human –which is sad, of course, but we’ve seen this “dead wife” trope over and over again and it’s not always done well IMO.
Anyway, Kaneki learns a bit of truth inside the sea of lies and decides to go back to Anteiku. Later on, Touka confronts him and tells him that it is not his job to take care of others, that nobody asked him to be the hero, and tbh, she kinda has a point. Still, Kaneki is more human than any of them and it is the only one who can possibly understand both sides.
We also see a bit of Renji and Uta’s past but nothing too deep, I guess.

I'm really surprised with this volume! Even though there were fewer actions scenes than the previous one but this has delivered a dramatic tone and it felt raw and meaningful for me. The plot focused on the secondary characters' past that unveiled secrets and things that are now important as the story is heading to its end. Not to mention, the amount of time the mangaka spent on all the characters, their past and their personality development, is so amazing to think of. Overall, this volume is one of my favorites. 4 and a half stars! ★★★★☆ So for now, there are two volumes left and I can't wait to finish it. Ganbatte Team Anteiku! ♥
